Chapter 17 Meeting Soul

It hasn't even been a week and already Soul is up and about. I've never seen a hatchling that is able to walk let alone run at this stage. I Have to admit thought she is cute but also very miscevious. I picked up Soul by the scruff of her neck.

"Let me go momma, I don't want to get a bath!" Soul cried as she tried to escape only to cross her forepaws in annoyance.

I put her down before licking her scales.

"Eww, gross cut it out momma, I don't need a bath!" Soul growled.

"Yes you do my dear, your scales are dirty." I said. "There all clean."

Soul got to her feet and ran off making me roll my eyes. A moment later she came back. "Momma?" She asked. "Yes my dear?" I answered.

"W-why are the other hatchlings diffident from me? I mean, look at what i can do compared to them, why...why am I so different?" Soul asked.

How could I explain this to her? She may very well be both dragon and human but..how could I tell her that? How was I to tell her she's the only one of her kind, but I'm her mother and I have to tell her this at some point. "Soul the reason your different is because you could possibly have human blood running through your veins." I started.

Soul shakes her head. "No, how's that possible? I can't have human blood! I'm a dragon. I have wings and a tail, see?"

"Soul your father and I, we were humans before we were dragons, Soul you come from a strong bloodline, You father was the chief's son and I was the best fighter in our generation." I said.

"No, no that can't be true, I'm not a full dragon, I'm a freak!" Soul said.

"No you're not you have a proud heritage!" I scolded.

"Stay away from me!" Soul snapped before flying off to my surprise.

"Soul!" I cried out.

I sat down and began to cry. My own daughter...hates me... I can't fallow her because I haven't flown for a while seeing that I'm on leave from the flight. but thankfully Hiccup returns.

"Astrid what's wrong what happened! Where's Soul?" He asked..

I coughed on a sob, before raising me eyes to look at him and as soon as I did he understood.

"I'll find her and bring her home I promise you my love." He said touching my nose with his own. I watched him fly away and sighlently wished I could go with him but I knew this was between them. All I could do is hope that my baby would be alright.

How is it even possible for Soul to know how to fly properly? She's still to young and yet she's flown off! I've spent a long while know being able to track my pray and this time it's my daughter, she knows the truth of who she really is now, I just had wished she hadden't gotten a four minute head start but I was fast but apparently Soul could be faster! I fine her sent but what I see makes every nerve in my body go into shock. Soul's body laying in a pool of blood but she's contuses and scared, a powerful skrill growling at her. I dove down and got between them. I released a loud Screech at the Skrill.

"How dare you harm a hatching! Epically a Night fury hatchling!" I snapped.

The skrill growled before throwing me into a tree. I winced as I got back on my feet. "Stay out of my way you pathetic pest! this rat will pay for intruding my territory!"

I stood between them again. "No actually this land is ours, it is within the Kings kingdom, anyone who comes can either join the ranks of the kingdom or will be asked to leave!" I snarled.

"You have no right to claim this land for any one, and I will see to it that you will die just like the rat!" The skrill snarled before lunging at Soul. I blocked him and clawed his flank. before following up with a strong hold on the Skrill's neck before he flung me into a rock. I groaned as my vision was making me see doubles. The Skrill hovered himself over Soul's body.

"H-Hey, I-I'm not finished with you yet!" I growled steadying myself.

"Foolish pest, you just won't give up will you." He spat.

"No, I won't give up, because that's my daughter and I would give my life to save my family!" I said before attacking him.

We both fought a good fight but in the end I won the fight, but at a painful cost. I looked down at the dead body of the Skrill at my paws, blood socked my claws and scales, this fight was brutal and could have been evaded if he hadn't tried to kill us both, I turned on my paws and walked over to my shacking daughter, blood socked her scales, the deep gash on her stomach made me worried. I picked her up and flew home heading right to the healers cave. I laid her down.

Swiftwing quickly got to work to help heal her wound. An hour later Swiftwing approached Astrid and I.

"How is she?" Astrid asked.

"She'll heal, but it's too risky to move her, but you can go to see her know she's just waking up." Swiftwing said.

"Thank you, you're a talented medicine dragon Swiftwing." I said bowing. I joined Astrid by her side and saw Soul.

"Mommy daddy?" Soul asked.

"Were here." Astrid said before nuzzling soul.

"My stomach hurts." She whimpered.

"I know it dose baby, I tried my best to get to you as fast as I could." I said.

"I know, and I shouldn't have run away, i know that know, I'm sorry." Soul said.

"We don't care as long as your safe that's all we care about." Astrid said licking her check.

"Eww gross." She said before we all shared a laugh.
