chapter 19 Soul's apprentice ceremony

Soul's POV:

I was woken up by mom this morning. I groaned has I shifted my body to look up at her. "Why so early?" I asked her softly giving a huge yawn to try to speck the sentence.

"Today is your apprentice ceremony this morning. It's been six moons." Mom had exclaimed.

Any tired feeling I had had before hand vanished into thin air as I jumped to my paws wincing for a brief moment before running around the cave full of existent I was going to get my apprentice name today! But wait what if I don't like my mentor!? What if I embarrass my family?! Oh man... I whimper and then I felt something grab my scruff and when I looked up I saw my mom she was smiling at me through my scruff and I growl.

"Why are you smiling at me like that?" I asked.

"I can smell that nervousness Soul, I can assure you the king would never put you where you wouldn't do your very best, and this will be the first time you'll be out of the nest and not be attacked of course, you'll learn to fight, get food and help the nest." Mom explained.

"But I'll have to sleep in the apprentice den, I'll be away from you and dad." I said.

"That may be true but that doesn't mean you can't be around with us, after all you are a Night Fury, your power can't be compared to any other dragon here." Mom said as she began to lick my scales.

"Ah no mom why are you cleaning me?!" I asked struggling to free myself from her iron grip but in the end it was hopeless, she is was to strong...

"Because you need to be clean for your apprentice ceremony." she said softly.

"Huh I never thought about it that way, hum... fine you win this time mom." I said.

She chuckled and finished cleaning my scales. Once she was done some of the other younger hatchlings came over to me.

"So you're really going to become an apprentice today Soul?" Barry asked.

I nodded my head. "Yeah and I'm going to be the best of the best I'll blow up tons of trapper ships and save hundreds of our kin!"

"Wow" All of them said at once.

"Oh yeah when I become a flight commander I'll lead my flight into battle and slay Drago!"

I froze and my scales felt as if they were turned to ice. I slowly looked over at a young nightmare, his scales where a dark blcaky-gray and red. I blinked at him, such bloodlust...he'd never be a flight commander, they have the hardest training and understand the keys and ties to this world and the sky dragons world.

"You'd never become a flight commander dark you're bloodlust is what guarantees that, the rule of this kingdom is that it's members are not full of bloodlust, and if they are they are earthier banned to return to the nest or asked to take time off of the flight." My mother snapped at the nightmare.

He too was six moons old and was joining me in the apprentice ceremony.

"She's right Dark, besides none of us even knows what the man even looks like, we've lost many of kin to Drago, none of us disagree that he should pay for his crimes agents the kingdom but it's not something you should go looking for I don't want to lose my hatchling." His mother exclaimed.

He groaned but walked over to the door, as I followed him as we waited for our fathers to come and get us. when they do I rub up agents him as he smiles.

"Are you nervous?" He asked.

I nodded. "oh yeah big time."

He chuckled and we flew off twords the king.

Dark and I landed before the king and we both bowed.

"Rise." The king said.

We rose and looked up at him.

"Soul, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Soulpaw. Your mentor will be Eveheart. I hope Eveheart will pass down all she knows on to you." The king said before turning to face the Nightmare.

Eveheart was close to our family because her mate was in my father's flight.

"Evehaert you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training from Dovesong, and you have shown yourself to be quick thinking and passionate. You will be the mentor of Soulpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Soulpaw." The king exclaimed.

She bowed and I approached her and rubbed snouts.

The dragons around me called out my name.

"Soulpaw, soulpaw, soulpaw."

I felt warm inside.

"As for you..." The king said silencing the crowd and forcing his attention back on the nightmare before him.

"Dark, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Darkpaw. Your mentor will be Bloodclaw. I hope Bloodclaw will pass down all he knows on to you."

He was paired up with one of the most feared flight commanders! I've never really met Bloodclaw but just hearing his name sent chills down my spine.

The stormcutter bowed his head respectively.

"Bloodclaw you are ready to take on an apprentice. You had received excellent training from Dualfang, and you have shown yourself to be loyal and a valued flight commander. You will be the mentor of Darkpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Darkpaw." The king exclaimed.

"But of course my king he will have the best training." Bloodclaw said bowing.

The nightmare approached and rubbed snouts with the Stormcutter.

"Darkpaw,Darkpaw,Darkpaw!"

"That is all for know." The king said.

I walked over to my parents with Eveheart.

"Well done Soulpaw, Eveheart is an exallent warrior and you will learn much." My mother said licking me.

I smiled, my dad could never prove his worth to his father because he was never there for him, but I will prove myself and live up to my warrior name.

"Know it's time to begin your training Soulpaw." Eveheart said approaching me.

I look at my family. I straiten my posture and bow to them. "I'll make you proud, this is my path to walk and I will live up to the way you raised me. With the knowledge of both human and dragon worlds."

"I don't dute that, and I'll be watching you as you progress." My father said.

I nodded and turned to face Eveheart. "I'm ready to begin my training."

"Good then follow me." She said taking to the air.

I ran and jumped of the cliff flying up into the air to join her.

"where are we going Eveheart?" I asked her.

"Well we need to get vines and moss for the elders nests." the nightmare said.

"So our job is to gather as much supplies for the nests as we can?" I asked.

She shook her head. "yes, that's how I first began."

"But that's not training nor is it fighting." I complained.

She laughed. "You'd be surprised Soulpaw, digging up the moss and cutting the vines teach you how to use your claws and how to hunt." Eveheart exclaimed.

"Okay then, if you say so, let's go!" I said flying faster.
