Jordi and I sat in that restaurant for nearly two hours, food came and went and the two of us just chatted away like we were old friends. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket several times but couldn't bare to pull myself away from Jordi for even a second.
He was interesting, his stories suggested he was adventurous and daring, the way he told them way both hilarious and gripping.
When it was beginning to near 3 o'clock my phone began to buzz more often than not until the person calling was literally recalling the second they hung up.
'I'll be two seconds.' I smiled to Jordi sweetly as I pulled the phone out of my pocket. 'This is quite important, sorry.'
'It's fine. Take all the time you need.'
I nodded my head and walked out to the front of the restaurant then held the phone to my ear. 'Hello?'
All hell broke loose.
'Hello?! I've been calling you non stop for thirty minutes and you haven't picked up once and all you have to say to me is "hello?" do you know understand how worried I was getting? I thought you'd be kidnapped or that you had ran away or something! Don't ever-'
Melina was relentless, I listened to her yell profanities down the phone for a good five minutes before I was allowed to speak.
'I just went out to meet a friend for lunch.' I mumbled. 'I'm sorry, I didn't want to disturb you while you were working.'
'What friend?'
'You don't know them.' I whispered.
'I know all your friends, Clark because I'm you're only friend. Where are you?' She snapped harshly.
'I'm in the Wards, bloody hell, Melina.' I growled back. 'I'm a full grown adult, forgive me if I did something without asking for your permission first.'
'Clark, we are about to risk our lives in order to save god knows how many others, don't talk to me like I'm being unreasonable for worrying. I've been trying to get in contact for nearly an hour and a half and stopped my work just to find out if you were okay for the last thirty minutes. Don't talk to me like I've just shit in your cornflakes, girl.'
I sighed. The bloody cow wasn't wrong. 'Alright sorry. I should've texted. Don't worry I'm good, it was just a last minute lunch thing and I was having so much fun that I- well, I didn't want to stop. I'll be back soon, the two of us have ate and everything now.'
'... You're on a date. Fine. I get it, I won't pry. Just be back soon and buy some tea, I'll forgive you properly if you bring some back⦠And maybe a bar of chocolate or something.'
'Done and done.' I giggled down the receiver. 'I'll see you soon.'
I hung up and shoved my phone back into my pocket before walking back into the restaurant, Jordi was stacking up my plate on top of his and gently placed the cutlery on that.
'Have you still got some time left or are you needed at your other engagement yet?' Jordi smiled.
'I've got a little while left.' I chuckled. 'It was just my friend who I live with. She was just asking if I could pick some stuff up on my way back.'
I'd already told Jordi a fair bit about myself, like Melina for example. Not everything obviously, there's only so much you can say before you're talking about being a hacker who has committed illegal acts and could very well be caught and sent to prison in the next few years.
'Well then, I thought of another story I could tell you. This one time, I visited Japan and I met the craziest person who actually tried to kill me with a spork-'
Jordi happily chatted with me while the two of us got our coats, apparently Jordi had already paid for the food so there was no need to wait for the waiter to return. We slowly began to walk back where we had met up earlier and sat down on a bench.
'Then this guy is yelling at me, he says- "what the hell did you do to my cat?" now of course, I'm freaking out like "the cat came out of nowhere, how was I supposed to know it was your cat?" and he like runs up to me and grabs my jacket. He almost throws me into the road and he's screaming, yelling, telling me that I'm a monster and all this and I'm just "maybe next time you should call the vet" but thankfully, that's when I woke up.'
'That's so odd.' I laughed. 'Do you think it had some sort of unconscious meaning?'
'I won't be smacking my car into a domestic pet anytime soon.' Jordi winked. 'I'm not really the type to think that my dreams really "mean" something. I just think it's something my brain is particularly infatuated with that day. For example, there is at least a 99% chance that I'll be dreaming about you tonight.'
'Bit gay.' I snorted before I could stop myself.
I led Jordi up to my terrible, beaten up car and the two of us sat down on the bonnet beside each other. I held my legs crossed tightly with my hands pinned to my lap while Jordi was spread out with his legs open like a V shape and one arm around the back of me.
'I can assure you, whenever I'll be with you, I'll be anything but gay.' Jordi took my hand and kissed it. His lips were so soft and I could barely even feel them against me, like feathers. My heart swooned obviously and I felt the unconscious need to rip some clothing apart.
I won't lie to anyone, in the few hours I'd spent with the guy I'd realised that my attraction to him went so deep that I was pretty desperate to sink my teeth into him. Which, surprised me a lot since I always thought myself to be the girl who was stuck at twelve years old and hated the idea of sex and more.
Jordi was clearly turning me back into the hormonal teenager I was when I was sixteen. Which is a bad thing considering I was a bit of a dickhead when I was sixteen.
'... I didn't mean to say that just so you know.' I laughed after a minute. 'It's a joke between Melina and I. We just say it sometimes whenever the other is being particularly more "loving" than usual. We mostly call each other rude names and be impolite to each other but whenever one says something nice "bit gay" just kinda slips out.'
'Thanks.' He laughed. 'Maybe I have a shot if you're treating me like you do your best friend. Do you think so?'
Blushing was like to go-to thing I'd been doing all day with Jordi and I managed to do it again before whispering. 'It wouldn't be unreasonable to think that.'
Jordi and I then bid our farewells with a soft kiss from him to my hand then went our separate ways. I watched as he strolled off into the distance and disappeared before jumping into my drivers seat and heading back to the foxhole.
I ran into a corner shop on the way back to pick up the things Melina needed as well as a few others things for myself. Like a magazine for example, I won't have Jordi to save me from boredom tonight even if I prayed for it.
I came back and parked the car around the back of the warehouse then headed towards the underground opening, I was about to pull the door open when it was suddenly pushed forward and straight into my body, sending me flying backwards onto my arse.
'Bollocks!' I cursed in pain, lifting myself up and rubbing at my tender buttcheeks. 'Watch where you're going you bloody idi-'
'I knew you were English!' A grumble came back, interrupting me. 'I know that accent anywhere.'
I looked up and saw Aiden Pearce towering above me, one hand clinging to his phone and the other wiping at the sweat dripping down his forehead.
'Yes, I'm English, I'm also on my arse 'cause you just shoved me over with a door, you dick.' I winced in pain as I rubbed a sore spot on my thigh then stood to my feet and patted myself down. 'The conventional thing to do is say sorry... Not that I'd expect that from the Vigilante.'
'I thought Melina was the one who snaps when she's mad.' Aiden smirked at me, placing his phone in his pocket. He reached forward and tried to help me to his feet but I was already up and preparing to hit him.
'I snap. She slaps.' I growled. 'Get out my way, vigil-uncle.'
I roughly pushed Pearce out of my way and walked through the open door and down the corridor leading to the base. I bet that guy has a complete different view on me now, I always try my best to be polite which is mostly down to the fact I suck at socialising but I turn into a flat-right bitch from hell when I get injured or someone's rude to me. Maybe it's Melina rubbing off on me.
I made my way into the large warehouse size underground tunnel and sighed happily. At least now there was a lot of light and I could see everyone. The place was about the size of a football pitch and was covered in computers on desks and large flatscreens all over the walls each one running through code I barely recognised.
Then in the corner was Melina. She was sat at her desk where she was when I left only now she had two large elder men pushing into her shoulders on both sides, each one telling her a different story.
'Hey.' I called as I closed the door behind me and strolled towards them. Ray had his arm over Melina's back and sounded like he was praising her while Tobias was very inquisitive asking questions and mumbling to himself.
Melina was the only one to turn to face me and smile, she shoved the boys out of her personal space and ran towards me. 'Thank god you're back. I'm going stir crazy here.'
She enveloped me in a hug the second she was with me and whimpered into my ear. 'They're ruthless. They haven't left me alone in nearly half an hour. Help.'
'How's bugging going?' I laughed as she pulled away and led me back to her desk. On her screen was another running of coding only this one I knew fairly well. She had pretty much bulletproofed the damn things design already so there was no way anyone would be able to trace it back to us if they tried. She did all that in just a few hours, that must be a record for her. Usually she added security codes after she'd try the bug out on other companies first.
'It's tedious.' Melina mumbled. 'I haven't made a bug this complex in a very long time so I'm just trying to make sure it's untraceable and these guys are telling me off.'
'I'm merely pointing out that there's a chance you must've left something. There's no way a newbie bug maker can do all this so quickly.' Tobias mumbled, scratching at his head. 'No offence obviously.'
'Well I am offended!' Melina growled. 'You called me a newbie. I've been doing this since you were- like thirty nine.'
'I'm forty three.'
'Well you clearly need some glasses old timer because this bug is perfect so far.' Melina pushed me in front of her softly and sat me down into her seat. 'Clark, look at that and tell me that there's something up with it. At least you actually understand this code, unlike these buttheads.'
I scrolled my eyes over the screen like I was a professional when in reality I had no idea what I was reading. I knew the code sure but bugs were not my thing. For all I knew, I was reading some sort of rainbow cake recipe.
'Looks fine to me.' I bullshitted. 'Melina is good at what she does.'
'I'm not saying that.' Tobias whined. 'Its just weird, that's all I-'
'I think Frewer here needs to know when he's beat.' Ray laughed wrapping his arm around Tobias' shoulder.
What was it with those two? They seemed more hug and feely than I would've expected especially Ray. Maybe it was just because the two of them were close or something.
'Fine!' Tobias through his hands up, knocking Ray off his shoulder. 'I can't spot a single fault in it so far so you're doing a good job.'
'Obviously.' Melina whispered and I smirked at her trying to mask my laugh as Tobias pouted like a child.
'I gotta go out now anyway and run some chores.' Melina stretched her arms out and groaned. 'I've been stuck in this room for ages, I need to get out and get some air.'
'Want me to come?' I smiled but Melina simply shook her head.
'No thanks. You stay here and do what you need to do. I'll probably have the bug ready tonight so you'll be going in tomorrow. Prepare yourself.'
Melina was already running out through the warehouse and out the door before she'd finished her sentence.
I frowned as I turned back to Ray and Tobias who were both looking rather concernedly at me.
'So,' I gulped awkwardly, becoming very aware that I was in a hidden basement that no one knew about on my own apart from two men. One of which I already knew was a murderer. 'What should we do first friends?'
