We entered a building that was filled with J'avos once again only this time one of those things had a BSAA soldier held by the neck. I aimed my gun at it but couldn't get a clear shot. So instead I tooks out my knife and threw straight into the creature's arm.
- Nice shot, kid. – A soldier patted me on the back.
The J'avo fell down, letting the soldier go. But it stood up and its arm changed. It mutated into a… I don't even know what to call it. The arm was huge and looked a lot like a sickle. The J'avo flung its arm back ready to hit me, but before it could, Chris pushed me out of the way. I looked up to see that the J'avo hit the soldier that it was holding a few moments ago. He was lying on the floor, the pool of blood under him was getting bigger by the second. Piers pulled both me and Chris up and we opened fire at the still alive J'avo.
- Alpha to HQ. – Piers said. – We just witnessed a J'avo mutation.
- Shoot it! – Chris ordered. – Keep them back!
The J'avo once again raised its mutated arm and I shot at it. The interesting thing was that the hit to the mutated arm was more effective than the hit to anywhere else.
- The arm! – I yelled to others. – Aim at the mutated arm! It's the weak spot!
A few more J'avos appeared and other soldiers attacked them. A few minutes later they were all dead and we were one man short.
- You two. – Chris addressed the soldiers. – Stay here and tend to the wounded.
- HQ. – Piers said. – Alpha Team reporting. I got five of us heading along Route Niner.
Now it was just me, Piers, Chris and two other soldiers. We made our way up the stairs and through the door. Once again we had to jump down into an alley, because of the destroyed building.
- When we get out of this, I won't be doing anything that involved jumping for at least a year. – I mumbled.
- Don't be so sure. – Piers laughed as he walked passed me and threw a smirk my way.
- What the fuck is that supposed to mean, Nivans? – He didn't answer me and we proceeded through the fence door that was in front of us.
- Enemy sighted! – Piers yelled once we got through the door. – Find cover!
- I don't want anyone charging in! – Chris ordered. – Just hunker down and pick a target!
I did exactly as he said. I took cover behind a dumpster and started shooting at the charging J'avos.
- HQ to all teams. - *Will there ever be a peaceful moment?*. – We've just received reports that hostiles are gathering around Bosawan. Proceed with caution.
- Now they tell us. – I mumbled, shooting down the last J'avo. – Once again we've entered a building, but this time it was some kind of storage. We carefully made our way upstairs and once again HQ contacted us.
- HQ to Alpha Team. We've lost contact with the recon unit. Proceed with extreme caution.
- Roger, HQ. – Piers answered. We took a staircase that led us to the building at the side and of course we were attacked by more J'avos.
- Bravo to HQ. – A voice appeared. – Still neutralizing hostiles at Four of Hearts with Charlie Team. They've taken heavy casualties!
- HQ copy. Sending medics your way.
*I hope they'll make it.* I thought as we made our way outside in front of the stairs that were leading up onto the roof of the building. No orders had to be told and we ran up the stairs. Once on the roof, HQ got in touch with us.
- HQ to Alpha Team. That tenement building up ahead is the Ace of Spades. – I looked around and spotted a 9-story building standing not too far from the building that we were on. – The UN staff that have been taken hostage are inside. Proceed with extraction.
There were boxes and other stuff on the roof that would help us get to the Ace of Spades. Of course we were attacked by J'avos, only this time we've encountered a new mutation – the creatures grew wings. *Flying. That's all we needed.* I thought aiming at the monsters. When the roof was cleared, we got onto a container and were able to jump onto the next building. There, I went up the ladder and saw a structure that was connecting the building I was on with the next building.
- Charlie to HQ. – The voice was so unexpected that I stopped abruptly, making Piers run into my back. – We've regrouped and are awaiting new orders!
- Things aren't going too well over a the Three of Diamonds… - HQ said. – They need you down there!
- Roger that!
As for us, we got onto the roof of the building that we just go on and were once again assaulted by J'avos. When the last J'avo was down we were able to move forward. The only problem was that our only way to the next building was a rusty old pipe. Chris was the first to slide down, then Piers followed him and I was right behind. Unfortunately, when I started making my way over the pipe there was an explosion that destroyed it. I probably should mention that I was falling down straight on the street from God knows how high. Luckily, Chris caught me, but the edge of the roof couldn't hold our weight and collapsed underneath Chris' feet. I was thrown into a balcony, whereas Chris fell down and grabbed onto another pipe that was a few stories lower.
- Chris! – Piers and I shout out in unison.
- I guess the muscle memory saved me there. – Chris said as he started making his way towards the building that Piers and I were on. Before any of us could react, J'avos appeared in the windows of a nearby building and started shooting at Chris. – Hey, kid, I'm taking a little fire here! I saved your ass – you wanna return the favor?
Piers and I readied our weapons and started taking down J'avos. Chris safely reached thre building and got on the floor below mine.
- I'm gonna need a hand here. – Chris said. – Make your way back to me A.S.A.P.
- We'll radio HQ for backup. – A soldier said through the earpiece. – You three proceed to the Ace of Spades.
I quickly made my way onto the roof where I met Piers and a few moments later Chris appeared as well. And of course there were more J'avos ready to end our lives. A lot more.
- Where the hell are they coming from? – I cursed under my breath. Once every J'avo was dead we were able to continue our trip over the roofs of buildings.
- HQ to Bravo! Alpha needs to move out to Ace of Spades. Can you relieve them?
- Roger. Coming in from the Four of Hearts. En route to assist.
- I just wonder how long it will take them to reach us. – Piers said as we knocked down the door and reached the edge of the building. *Isn't that…* I thought looking at the building right in front of us, when my thoughts were interrupted.
- HQ to Alpha Team. You're almost at the Ace of Spades.
- Thank God. Finally. – I let out a sigh as we once again got onto another building.
A few minutes and buildings later we were on the roof of Ace of Spades.
- Bravo here. We're taking major heat at the Four of Hearts! I don't think we'll be able to relieve Alpha!
- Guess it's just the three of us. – Piers commented sarcastically.
As if on cue, J'avos started coming out of every corner. I took cover behind a crate and started shooting at them. After about 10 minutes of non-stop shooting, the J'avos were still coming at us and I was running out of ammo.
- Shit, I'm out! – I yelled out as I fired the last round.
- Contact HQ! – Chris ordered. – We need backup, now!
- Alpha to HQ. – I did as I was ordered. – We're on the Ace of Spades, but we've encountered resistance! We're low on ammo and the J'avos just keep coming in! We need backup, now!
- HQ to Bravo Team. Alpha Team's surrounded by hostiles. Get to the Ace of Spades on the double.
- Alpha Team, this is Bravo! We're moving as fast as we can. Keep your panties on, everyone!
- Roger that. – I said. – We'll do what we can until you get here. – I took out my knife and backed up a bit. Every J'avo that came near me would get a hole in its head. We had to keep this up for about 10 minutes more.
- Where the hell is that backup?! – Chris said angrily and just after these words a helicopter appeared.
- Hey, guys! Happy to see us? – A soldier said as they jumped out of the helicopter. – Bravo Team, weapons hot! Don't leave any J'avo standing!
I was relieved to see Bravo here and that was my mistake. I let my guard down and a J'avo hit me. I fell down and looked up to see it swinging a gun at my head. But before it could hit me I felt someone grab me by the collar and pull me back. Then a shot was heard and the J'avo fell dead. I looked up to see one of the Bravo soldiers.
- You should watch your back, kid. – He said as he helped me up. – Here, take this. – He handed me the ammo to my rifle.
- Thanks. – I said as I reloaded my weapon.
- This is HQ. All B.O.W.'s have been eliminated. Alpha Team, help Bravo Team get the civies out of there. – We did as we were ordered and after a long run and fight we finally entered the building. – HQ to Alpha. We have your mission brief. Rescue the hostages on the first and seventh floors, and then get out of the building. As soon as all teams are clear, we will commence bombing.
- We should stick together and start with the seventh floor. – Chris said as we started moving.
Suddenly there was an explosion and the whole building rocked. Just a split second later the floor beneath my feet disappeared and I started falling. This time no one saved me and I landed hard on my back.
- Minnie! – I heard a male voice yell. I opened my eyes to see the BSAA soldiers high above me, looking down the hole that I just fell through.
- How are you, kid? – I heard Chris' voice in the earpiece.
- I'm alive, that's for sure. – I said as I tried to move. I winced as sharp pain went through my back.
- Can you move? – Chris asked.
- Something like that. My back is killing me, though.
- Stay where you are and take cover. We'll come and get you! – Chris ordered. – Which floor are you on?
*How the fuck am I supposed to know?* I thought as I looked around. A huge number 2 was painted on the wall.
- I'm on the second floor. – I said as I sat up.
- OK, we're coming for…
- Wait, Chris. – I cut him off. – You should rescue the hostages that are on the seventh floor and I'll go after the one that's on the first floor.
- Don't be stupid! – This time it was Piers. – It's too dangerous to go alone.
- I'll be fine. Once you're done with your hostages you can come down to the first floor and help me out if you want. But I'm not staying around waiting to get rescued.
Through all the pain I stood up and went through the door that led to the stairs. Chris and Piers tried to talk some sense into me, but I of course didn't listen to them and went on to find my hostage. Luckily for me there were barely any J'avos on the first floor, so I was able to make my way to the hostage quietly. I heard an explosion somewhere near the elevator. *It's probably Chris and Piers.* thought as I reached a slightly ajar door. Through the creek I saw a J'avo standing in front of a woman, with a gun pointed at her. I took out my knife and aimed at the creature's head. I was afraid of hitting the woman that's why I didn't use the rifle. I threw my knife at the J'avo and perfectly hit its head. I quickly ran to the woman to calm her down.
- Don't worry, ma'am. You'll be alright. – I said.
- Minnie! – I heard Piers' voice above me. I raised my head and surely enough I saw Chris and Piers right above me. They jumped down.
- Where are the other hostages? – I asked.
- Bravo took them out. – Chris said. – How are you?
- I'm fine, but… - Before I could finish my sentence a J'avo jumped down behind a woman with a machete in his hand, ready to slit her throat. It was a matter of moments when Piers shot the monster down.
- First floor hostage secured. – Chris said through the earpiece.
- Copy that, Alpha. Now clear out of there.
Without any hesitation we headed straight for the exit. Once we reached the door, there were more Bravo soldiers and they took the hostage out.
- Come in, HQ! – Piers said. – All hostages are OK! Alpha Team is clear!
- Copy that. Commencing with bombing.
We started moving towards outside but before we could leave the building the exit crumbled down, blocking us inside the building.
- Oh, shit. – I said horrified. – We're trapped. What the hell do we do, now?
- I don't know. – Piers said, just as scared as I was.
- HQ to Alpha. You can get out on the third floor. There's a balcony on the west side of the building. Get moving!
- You heard the man. Let's go! – Chris said and we ran for our only escape route.
- Alpha, get out of there, now! Preparation to bomb the building is complete. Planes have been scrambled.
- We don't want to be here when those birds show up. – Piers said as we entered the proper floor. A missile hit the building and it started collapsing.
- They've started bombing. – Chris said as we ran through the third floor. – Guess they don't care that we're still in here.
- It's not personal. – Piers answered. – You know the mission takes priority.
We reached the balcony just in time, because another missile hit the building and the force of the explosion blew us out of the building. We quickly stood up and ran as fast as we could, because the next missile was the final one and the building was destroyed. I sat down against the wall of another building and started catching my breath.
- Let's go. – Piers said as he pulled me up. I winced in pain, because of my hurting back. – Stay behind me. – He said, concern etched on his face.
The three of us walked to where the building used to be just a few moments ago. Now in front of us was a hole that was made by the explosion. We came closer and looked down. After such a long time, I once again saw the cocoons from which those creatures hatch. 6 months ago our comrades were injected with the C-virus and turned into these exact cocoons. And who was responsible for it? Ada Wong.
- Suddenly Chris yelled out in pain, grabbed his head and fell to his knees.
- Chris? – I said as I kneeled down next to him, my hands on his shoulders. – What's wrong, Chris?
- Captain? – Piers was just as worried as I was.
- Finn… - Chris whispered.
