Hey guys! Sorry if this chapter is a little shorter. I have no excuses again… I've been freaking out over how this is going to end, which I do intend to happen soon. Because sooner or later it's going to end. But anyways, enjoy your new chapter.
"Alec," Maryse said from the seat on the couch next to him.
"Yeah?" Alec responded, not looking away from the books displayed in front of him.
"Would you grab my reading glasses?" Maryse said as she squinted her eyes as she skimmed over the print in the book. "I think they are in the kitchen."
Alec book marked the pages of the several books he was browsing and set them aside. He stood up from the couch and walked to the kitchen to search for his mother's glasses. He searched the counters of the kitchen and found his mother's glasses in under a few seconds. Before Alec could leave he heard the sound of scratching come from the corner of the room and the sound of a creaky door.
Alec looked over to the back of the room and saw a small cage setting in the dark corner of the room. Alec began to walk over to the cage but felt something tug on the bottom leg of his jeans. He looked down to see a cute small beagle dog pulling at the leg of his pants.
Alec crouched down to pet the dog. "Aw…" Alec said upon picking up the small puppy. The dog let out a small bark and panted. Alec held the dog, holding it close to his chest as he walked to the living room. As he walked down the hall from the kitchen to the living room, he was hissed at by Church and even Chairman Meow, who were both not happy about the presence of the new pet.
"Maryse, Tessa?" Alec entered the room slowly.
"Yes?" They both responded in unison, Maryse never looking up from her book and Tessa never looked away from the TV. Alec shook his head, walking to his mom and handing her the glasses.
Maryse looked up from her book to grab the glasses and stopped what she was doing when she saw the small dog in his arms. Alec just shrugged at the glare he was getting form his mother.
"Did either of you happen to get a dog?" Alec asked with a smile.
Tessa looked over at Alec and immediately ran to him to see the tiny animal. "He's so cute!" Tessa spoke as she pet the beagle.
"Alec, I wouldn't trust this." Maryse said, finally taking the glasses from Alec's hand. "I don't know how this dog got here and I'm sure Tessa doesn't know either. You better not have something to do with this…"
"No, I just went to get your glasses and I found the dog in there." Alec defended.
"Then I wouldn't trust this." Maryse stated. "You do realize that Magnus probably did this?"
"Come 'on, mom." Alec pouted. "He seems pretty harmless."
"Yeah, Maryse." Tessa agreed, rubbing the dog on the head.
"I would at least monitor the dog's behavior before you automatically trust it." Maryse argued one final time.
"Fine, I'll let him stay in one of the empty rooms. I'll take care of him, feed him, and stuff." Alec sided. And with that he went upstairs and picked out one of the empty rooms on the floor where his room was. Alec walked into the empty room and put the beagle on the floor of the room unwanting. He shut the door and went to go get food and water for the dog and put them in the room. As Alec left the room he began to feel guilty just leaving the dog in the room by itself.
Three more days went by of taking care of the dog and leaving it alone in the room. Nothing unnatural or weird happened. Nothing suspicious went on and everything seemed perfectly normal. With the permission of his mother, Alec was allowed to finally have the dog wander freely around the Institute.
Alec was currently in his room, playing around with the beagle with Tessa. They had already taught the dog several tricks and fed it enough treats for a week.
Tessa was currently holding a treat in the air, trying to get the dog to jump in the air and catch the treat. Alec was facing one of the shelves of the library, occasionally skimming through books for ideas. In the middle of his reading he heard a scream from behind him come from Tessa.
Alec quickly turned around and saw Tessa pressed with her back against the wall and the dog no longer in sight.
"What happened Tessa?" Alec said panicked by her sudden fear.
"It-it ran back there!" she pointed behind one of the bookshelves in the library.
"What did?" He asked curiously. "The dog?"
"What used to be the dog…?" She said with her eyes wide.
"What happened to it?" Alec asked suddenly feeling scared.
"I think… It turned into a, Hydra demon." She said somewhat unsure.
"Hydra's are blind right?" Alec said and lowered his voice. "So that means that they only rely on hearing sound?"
"Yeah, I think so." She said getting off the wall. "I'll be back."
"Wait no." Alec went to stop her as she dashed from the wall to the door. "Don't just leave me here."
"I'll be back in a second. Do you have any weapons to fight off the demon?" Tessa asked and Alec just shook his head. "Then I'll be back in a second, I promise. Be careful."
Alec closed the door after Tessa left, trying to make it as quiet as possible. Alec turned around to see the multi-headed Hydra demon standing closely right behind him. He pressed back into the door, the doorknob stabbing him in the back. The demon walked closer to him, and as quickly and quietly as possible he slowly scooted across the door and to the wall.
The Hydra demon walked to the door and looked around, trying to pick up any sound from the room. Alec quietly walked away trying to draw a rune on his arm in the process but wound up dropping the steele on the floor in the process. The sudden noise caused the demon to bring its attention towards Alec and darted right towards him.
Alec managed to dodge the Hydra in just the right time, but now that the demon was aware of another person in the room, it was picking up every footstep it could catch and every intake or pant of breath. Alec needed Tessa to show up, and soon.
Alec was running around the library, dodging the Hydra and trying to stay away from it as best as he could. He just needed to outrun the demon until Tessa shown up. And to Alec, it seemed like Tessa was taking her time with picking out the weapons.
Just then Tessa finally opened the doors of the library, getting the Hydra's attention.
"Alec!" She yelled as she threw a blade in the air, getting his attention to catch the blade. Alec caught the blade, and before the Hydra could reach Tessa he threw the blade so it stuck the demon in the back of the neck, causing it to let out a loud screech in pain.
Tessa pulled a sword from the sheath on her back and fought off the demon as best as she could so she could hand Alec his bow. Once Alec could reach Tessa he grabbed his bow, putting an arrow in place and getting ready to shoot.
He managed the hit the demon in the chest, causing it to let out another screech. As he began to use more bows, and hitting the demon in damaging places, it seemed that the demon would never die.
Inchor was spilling out of its wounds and it was starting to move slower as Tessa and Alec fought. Tessa managed to get in a few good hits with her sword, but it wasn't taking much more damage.
Alec swore when he went to grab another bow and had no more left. "Tessa!" He called and got her attention. "Throw me your sword!"
"What?" Tessa looked at him as if he were insane. "No way!"
"Tessa, Just do it!" Alec yelled. "I have an idea."
"Then how am I going to defend myself?" She looked nervous as she took another swing at the demon.
"I'll protect you, don't worry!" Alec said nervously as the demon turned around and gave its attention to Alec. Tessa threw the sword to Alec and he caught it quickly. Alec caught it and spun to bring the sword down on one of the Hydra's heads. He managed to sever one of its heads with ease and done the same to the other several.
After each head of the demon heads were severed off it would let out a painful earsplitting screech. But finally after the eighth one, the demon collapsed, falling to the ground and disappearing. The only thing left were the gallons of Inchor spread all over the library floor.
Alec looked over at Tessa, and panted and dropped the sword. "Thanks." He said out of breath.
"No problem." She spoke, wiping away at the sweat on her forehead. "I think your mom was right about Magnus doing this."
Uh-oh… Looks like Magnus let another demon loose in the Institute. My friend made me realize that in the books, demons couldn't get in the Institute. I had never thought of that so hopefully you don't mind if I just bend the rules of the book a little… but, anyways, I hope you liked the chapter and I'll see you guys next week! :D
