We continued our trip over boats. Finally, a couple of those boats later, we reached the ground and could get our feet on a solid surface. We've reached a huge building with a sign on it that said "Medical Research Centre".
- Think this is where they've been developing the C-Virus? – Piers mouthed my thoughts.
Chris didn't answer, but the look on his face said that he was thinking the same thing. We entered the Centre with our weapons ready to shoot any moment and searched the room. I heard a door open and looked up. On the second floor I saw Ada coming in through a door with a briefcase in her hand. And this time she was once again wearing the blue dress. *What the fuck is going on here?*
- Ada! – I heard Chris' voice. It was obvious that he had noticed her as well. He shot his gun, but missed once again and she used her grapple-gun to "fly" to the other side of the facility.
- Alpha Team to HQ! – Piers reported. – Come in! We are in pursuit of Ada Wong!
- Let's move! – Chris ordered. – After her! – We ran through a door on the side and at the back of the other room we saw the elevator. – Make a run for the elevator! Go!
And so we did. We dashed through the room in order to reach the elevator as fast as we could because it could've gone up any minute. While running I thought I heard someone speak and say something about being alone in here, but I thought it was just my imagination.
- Glad you could step in. – I heard Ada's voice over the loudspeakers and looked up to see her on a higher floor. – Like what I've done with the place? Hope you enjoy your stay.
And with that, lasers appeared that were straight for us. *We have to disable the trap or we're dead.* I thought as I saw a place where I could dodge the lasers. I just got down on the floor and crawled under them and then made my way to the elevator with Chris and Piers not too far behind me. And of course the entrance to the elevator was blocked by lasers. But these were easier to go through, because these lasers were coming from certain sensors, so all we had to do was to destroy the sensors. When the lasers "turned off" we ran for the elevator, but it closed right under our noses and left.
- Fine. We'll take the stairs! – Chris said and we ran for the stairs.
Running up the stairs with a bullet-proof vest on and a rifle in your hands isn't an easy task. And it's even harder when you have been running around town and up and down the stairs for the whole day. None the less we made it to the third floor and saw a huge door with number "00" written on them. It was an electronic door which needed two people to open them. Once the door was open we walked through it into a dark room. There were vials full of liquids with strange things inside of them all around the room.
- What the hell is all this? – Piers asked looking around.
- Keep your eyes peeled. – Chris said. – Who knows what this bitch has in store.
I approached a door that was in front of the one that we just came through and tried opening it. Unfortunately, it was sealed shut.
- We're locked in. – I said, not being too pleased with the situation.
- Engaging locks. – A voice appeared from the speakers. – Testing for prototypes.
- I don't like the sound of that. – I muttered.
Immediately the room lit up with screens and lights. Some sorts of little robots were coming out from under the panels.
- We've been conducting such fascinating work here. – Ada spoke over the speakers. – Why don't you have some fun with one of the new prototypes?
The little robots that looked like mechanical crabs were running all around the room and us. One of the robots started glowing red and exploded not too far away from me.
- Just great. Running time bombs. – I said as I shot another robot and it exploded as well. – From my point of view we're in a lose-lose situation. We either shoot them and explode into bits, or we don't shoot them and still explode into bits.
- Her little bag of tricks isn't going to stop us! – Chris said.
It was good to know that Chris was optimistic about the whole situation, but the fact that more and more of those things were coming out didn't help with the optimism.
- Security breach detected in Room One. – A voice said over the speakers.
*Security breach?* I looked around and saw something that looked like an electric panel. I approached it and tried to open it. Since the lock didn't budge, I grabbed some sort of metal pipe that was on the ground and with its help I was able to open the door of the panel. Sure enough, I saw a lot of wires and lights in front of me.
- See if you can hold those things off, guys! I'll get us past the lock! – And with that I started fiddling with the wires, trying to breach the system.
- Disengaging locks in Room One. – The voice over the speakers said. Before I could do anything else, the room once again became dark and all robots disappeared.
- What the hell is that? – Piers mumbled.
- Engaging locks. – The voice from before said but this time it sounded like an old record that was being listened to a lot and now the sound was all funny: it would slow down and quicken up in a second. – Testing for prototypes. - Again the robots appeared, but this time they were moving and exploding faster. – Disengaging locks.
This was the phrase I was waiting for. The robots had stopped moving, the lights dimmed and the door was finally open. We quickly ran through the open door in search of Ada. We noticed an air went which could help us catch up with Ada. Chris kicked the grate out and the three of us crawled through it onto some sort of fence bridge. We saw the blue dress in the distance.
- Give it up, Ada! – Chris yelled. – It's over! – We quickly ran towards her.
- Oh, is the big bad soldier going to shoot me? – She yelled back mockingly, still on the run.
We almost caught up to her, but she threw a smoke grenade and we had to slow down because the smoke was stinging our eyes and throats. Nevertheless, when the smoke evaporated we continued our hunt.
- It's been fun. Ciao! – Ada said and we saw how with the help of her grapple gun she flew to the other side of the room.
- Ada! – I heard someone yell out but it wasn't neither Piers' nor Chris' voice.
- Don't lose her! – Chris ordered as we continued with the pursuit.
- I won't! – Piers said as we ran after Chris.
In front of us were two possible ways: go to the left or go straight. Chris turned left and before Piers could run after him, I grabbed his hand and pulled him after me to go straight.
- We'll corner her in. Come on. – I said and we ran forward. We jumped from the fence bridge and onto solid ground.
- There she is! Cut her off! – Chris ordered.
Chris ran after her and Piers and I cut her off from the front. We aimed our weapons at her and she stopped. She wanted to run back but Chris was in her way with his weapon aimed directly at her. Chris was about to open fire on her but he was hit in the gun and missed her. I turned my head to see another man engulf in a fight with Chris. Chris was perfect when it came to hand-to-hand combat, but the other man wasn't too bad himself. They fought for a couple of moments when both had their handguns aimed at one another. The mystery man had his back turned to us so we couldn't see who he was.
- Chris? – The man spoke with surprise in his voice.
- Leon? – Chris said with the same emotion.
*Leon?* I thought. I met him a few years back. He is a friend of Claire's and an agent to the US government. Our first encounter was in Spain when he had to find the President's daughter. I was 16 at the time. Almost killed the poor bastard because I thought he was one of the hostiles. As for me, I was sent there to bring back a sample of those things that had been possessing the villagers. I think they were called Las Plagas, or something like that. Anyway, I met Leon there and ended up helping him save Ashley. And of course, Ada was there too. I'm still not sure what happened between Leon and her but it was obvious that they know each other from before and that Leon had at least some sort of feelings towards her. I mean, no one in their right mind would jump into danger to help someone they don't care about. Anyway, this is where Leon and I had absolutely different opinions. He was ready to sacrifice his life for Ada and I… I was ready to put at least 3 bullets in her head when the opportunity would come. So yeah, there was a lot of fighting between us when it came to that topic. But besides that, we get along quite fine.
- What are you doing here? – Chris asked, his gun still at Leon. A brown haired woman ran to us and stopped behind Chris, aiming her gun at Piers.
- Don't even think about it, bitch. – I growled, changing my target from Ada to the mystery woman as Piers kept his gun aimed at my sister.
- Minnie? Didn't know you joined the BSAA. – Leon said turning his head a bit so that he could see me, but then quickly turned back to look at Chris.
- Time goes by, Leon. But some things never change. – I said talking about Ada, and not taking my eyes or my gun away from the mystery woman.
- Put your down, Chris. – Leon said. – She's a key witness, we need her.
- A witness?! – Chris was furious. – She's the one who did all this!
- No! – Leon continued. – It wasn't her – it was Simmons, the National Security Advisor.
- I lost all my men because of her! – By now Chris was yelling.
- And I lost over 70.000 people, including the President, because of Simmons! – Leon yelled back.
- She's working for Neo-Umbrella. – Chris pressed on. – You know what that means?
- Yeah, I do. – Leon answered calmly.
- And you're still going to protect this woman?
- I am.
- Oh, for goodness sake, Leon, don't be stupid! – This time it was me who spoke out.
- Captain! – Piers yelled and Chris and I turned our head to him. I saw how Ada dropped a flash grenade right next to us and when it went off, the light blinded every one of us. I rubbed my eyes in order to get my vision back when I felt hands on my shoulders and heard Piers talk. – You OK?
- Yeah. – I said and turned my head only to see Ada use the grapple gun to get to the ground floor.
- Freeze! – Piers and I yelled out in unison and opened fire on her. Unfortunately, we missed and she was getting away.
- Damn it! – Piers ran after her and I was close behind him.
We followed her to the garage, but she was already in a car, driving away.
- She's making a break for the harbor. – Piers reported. – Get in! – He ordered motioning towards a military jeep. Piers went over to the driver's door, I was by the passenger's door and Chris jumped into the back so that he could take control of the machine gun.
- Hey, Piers. – Chris spoke up and we looked at him. – What you said about me hiding from my past. You were right.
- Captain? – It seemed that Piers was astonished by what Chris had just said.
- And, Minnie, I… - Chris started but I cut him off.
- Forget about it, Chris. – I smiled warmly at him. Chris nodded and turned to Piers.
- Can you catch up to her?
- Won't stop until I do. – Piers answered and we got into the vehicle.
Chris loaded the machine gun and Piers turned on the ignition. A few moments later we were speeding down the streets of China after a red sports car.
- This is Piers Nivans! – Piers reported to HQ. – Ada Wong is moving south towards the military port! Advising all personnel to be on the alert!
I saw a lot of other military jeeps appear from other streets. But these were full of J'avos who were shooting at us. Chris opened fire with the machine gun and I used my rifle to take out as much of them as possible while trying to hit Ada's car at the same time.
- I've had enough of these stupid games! – Chris commented the whole street race. – Chris to HQ! block off all the exits!
- Sorry, no can do. All of our units are currently engaged. I don't have any spare.
One of the hostile vehicles hit us and we slowed down a bit and I lost Ada and her car behind a corner.
- Piers, hurry up! We're losing her! – I yelled out.
- You're not getting rid of us that easily. – Piers said as he evaded the exploding cars. – I'm the best driver the BSAA's got!
- Let's make that judgment when you catch her, sweetheart. – I commented ironically.
- Alpha, come in! – A voice appeared over the earpiece. – This is Delta! We hear you're zeroing in on Ada Wong! We're trying to hold out on our end, but we ain't gonna last long. You've gotta catch that woman before this gets any worse!
- Don't worry, pal! – I answered, because both Piers and Chris had their hands full. – We will! You just keep those civilians safe! – And with that I fired my gun at Ada's car.
- Roger that! Good luck! Hopefully, we can put an end to this shit storm! Delta out!
While trying to get away from us, Ada threw a grenade, which exploded the tank-car and Piers had to drive onto a railroad in order to not get hit by the flames.
- Captain! There's a train coming! – We missed the train, but also, for a short period of time, we lost visual on Ada.
When there was the opportunity, Piers drove back onto the street and once again we were hot on Ada's heels. We drove into a dark underground parking-lot and stopped when we saw 6 hostile vehicles in front of us, opening fire. All of us started shooting back. It didn't take long to kill them, because one hit to the gas tank of the enemy jeep made it blow up, along with the J'avos. We continued our drive through the parking-lot. When we were on the 3rd floor, Piers stopped in front of a destroyed wall and we saw Ada's car driving down the street below us.
- Hey! Grab your gun! – I told Piers. – I'm taking the wheel! – He didn't argue and we changed places. I backed up a bit and stopped. – Hang on! I'm taking a short cut!
And with that said, I pressed the accelerator and drove off the edge and onto the street. I quickly turned the wheel to the left in order not to hit the wall in front of us, but I still grazed the side of the jeep a bit.
- She's not getting away again. – I mumbled as I sped up after her. – You're not going to lose us, Ada!
I was speeding after her not only trying not to hit other vehicles or obstacles, but also trying to avoid the missiles that were being shot at us.
- HQ to Alpha! We've spotted an aircraft carrier of unknown origin in the harbor. Chatter we picked up indicates it might belong to Neo-Umbrella!
- I guess now we know where she's headed. – I muttered.
- We can't let her reach it! – Chris said.
- Hold on! I'm gonna jump it! – I warned them as I pressed the accelerator to the bottom once more.
We jumped from the harbor and onto the carrier. The jeep fell on its side and all of us jumped out of it. Bruised and sore all over, we stood up.
- Jesus, you're a road maniac. – Piers spoke to me. – Who gave you your driver's license?
- No one, I don't have one. – I answered him.
- Then who taught how to drive like that?
- Yours truly. – I said motioning towards Chris.
