Damon POV:
Damon had left Stefan in the quarry. He could not stand to look at him a minute longer. He had forced him to turn into a vampire. He had once dreamed of the day he would become one but that was all to be with Elena. Even thinking her name hurt him and he winced. He couldn't get her terrified eyes out of his head and the sounds of her voice pleading as she was dragged away.
He did not know why he had come back here. He hadn't even realised his feet were leading him in this direction in the first place. He stared at the home he had grown up in. It was the home in which his mother had lived. It was the home in which he and his brother had played and bonded. Most importantly it was the home in which he met the love of his life.
The house was still, quiet and dark. The irony was that Damon had returned to the house in this state many times before. If he tried hard enough, he could believe that the household was asleep about to be woken by another of his drunken shenanigans and that his father would soon be down to lecture him once more about being a shame to the family. But all too soon the spell was over. Father would not come to lecture him. Father was dead. Stefan had killed him. The part of him that had been gleeful of his father's death had dimmed. He did not wish that his father was alive. The only thing he did wish is that it was not his brother that had done the deed. His hatred towards his brother had not broken the love he still held for Stefan. At the time all he felt was the rage at Stefan for forcing him to turn but now he wondered if Stefan felt guilt for what he had done. He had liked their father.
Damon's musings were cut short as he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. A shape in the shadows was watching him. His body acted on instinct. He moved at a speed that was unbelievable to him and grasped the stranger by the throat. In the light, he recognised Emily Bennet, Katherine and Elena's hand maiden. Her eyes showed no fear but he could see she was struggling for breath. Immediately he loosened his hold and she gasped a breath of relief.
"Thank you Mr Salvatore. You are lucky that you are a friend to Elena or I would have had to hurt you." She warned in her sweet soft tone. He frowned. Hurt him. He looked her over. She was a slight, young woman, barely older than Elena looked. Then again, looks could be deceiving.
"You're a vampire?" He asked hesitantly. She shook her head and she looked amused.
"Don't be ridiculous. I am a witch." He blinked in surprise. A witch? Elena had not told him about witches.
"Okay, you're a witch. Why were you following me?" She smiled and he did not know if he found it comforting or chilling.
"I have come to make a deal with you." He frowned. Why would a witch want to make a deal with him?
"What kind of deal?" He watched her in suspicion. He didn't like the air she gave off and he was not entirely comfortable with the fact that she seemed to be not afraid of him.
"I want you to promise to watch over my family over the years; All the Bennet family and their descendants. Make sure no harm comes to them and protect them from any evil that attempts to interfere."
He blanched in shock. He was speechless for a moment before anger rose in him. Why would he want to watch over her family? He didn't care about anything now.
"Why would I do that? There is nothing you could offer me that would get me to accept your deal."
She shook her head at him. He didn't like that. She seemed to hold all the answers and she was deliberately keeping them from him.
"You should learn the whole deal before you speak Mr Salvatore. I know for a fact that what I can offer you will guarantee the protection of my family line."
He continued to glare at her in anger.
"What is that then?" He retorted sarcastically. This whole situation was ridiculous.
"Elena. I can give you Elena." He stared at her unblinkingly. He knew that his mouth was open and he probably looked ridiculous but what she was saying was ludicrous! Elena was dead! He saw her burn in the church! When his mouth decided to work once more, Damon voiced this. Emily nodded.
"That was Katherine's plan. She wanted it to appear as though she perished in the flames of the fire. It was all a lie. Katherine is free somewhere. The other vampires, however, are safe. They are locked in a tomb underneath the church."
Damon could not believe what he was hearing. The relief he felt was unmatched by any other moment in his life. He could feel a smile slowly form on his face. Elena was alive! His broken heart began to repair and it was if he could feel the individual pieces sewing back together.
"I accept your deal. Take me to Elena and I will protect your family, I swear." Damon had gripped Emily by the shoulders in his excitement and she looked away with an expression of sympathy. He didn't understand. He had just agreed to her deal.
"What's wrong?" Damon asked. He needed to see Elena now.
"The spell I performed on the tomb was an incredibly powerful one. I channelled the essence of a comet to seal it. The spell is linked to this pendant, and it will only work once the comet returns." She handed him an amber pendant on a silver chain. He looked at it as he tried to process the information.
"Okay so when will this comet return so you can perform the spell to release Elena?" She sighed and it seemed like she did not want to reveal the answer to him.
"The comet only passes every hundred years, give or take. And I'm afraid I will not live that long. You will need to find another witch to perform the spell, which is why keeping my family line alive will be of use to you."
All of the happiness that Damon had been feeling moments before slipped away. It was replaced by searing rage.
"A hundred years? Emily, there must be another way! I can't leave her in there for a hundred years! What will even happen to her?" The thought of Elena trapped in a tomb for a hundred years was awful.
"She will not die Damon; she will desiccate which means her body will dry up. She will not be able to move or speak but she will be mostly self aware. Once you retrieve her from the tomb she will be fine once she has blood in her system once more."
Damon felt his rage building at her words.
"Fine? There is no way that Elena will be fine after starving for a hundred years!"
Elena would go crazy in there! He could not let this happen to her! Emily sighed again.
"I'm sorry Damon but it's the best I could do."
Damon had finally reached his limit, at least the monster that was now inside him did. He rushed toward Emily intending to rip into throat but instead a searing pain erupted inside his head. He groaned clutching his head as he fell to the ground. He looked up and watched as Emily stepped towards him. As soon as the pain came, it faded. She stared down at him with a pitying expression.
"I really am sorry Damon. Just remember that one day you will be with her again." With one last look, Emily walked away.
Damon finally got to his feet. He stared after Emily. He did not bother to follow. The obvious reason being that he did not want to feel the pain again but that he knew it was pointless. Emily had given him the terms and he had wordlessly agreed to the deal. He sighed. A hundred years. A hundred years without Elena, knowing that she was alive yet starving in pain. It seemed impossible and yet he knew that he would do it. Somehow he would live for a hundred years just to see her again. He looked back to his family home. He thought back to his reason for coming here. He had wanted to collect some of his belongings. With this thought he realised that Elena would have left things behind in her room. He needed to keep them safe for her so that when she returned he could give them to her.
A/N: So I decided to keep most of this the way it was done in the show. Emily making a deal with Damon so he would protect her family. Anyway hope you liked it
