- Minnie! – Chris yelled and then I felt someone grab me and ram me into the ground. I looked up to see some sort of robotic creature with a knife in its hand, ready to stab me. I heard a gunshot and the creature fell to the ground, dead.
I quickly stood up only to see Piers lowering his gun. There were more gunshots, but this time they were aimed at us.
- Keep your heads down! – Chris yelled out. – They've got their sight locked on us!
I looked around only to see more of those strange creatures around. They were everywhere – behind the crates on the ground, taking cover behind various structures around the room and even above us on the second floor.
- Careful. These enemies are different. – Chris said when he shot another one down.
- So these are Neo-Umbrella's finest, huh? – Piers retorted, taking cover. I did the same and shot a few of those creatures myself. In the distance I saw something red and blue.
- It's Ada! She's over there! – I yelled out to Chris and Piers, motioning in her direction.
- Alpha to HQ! – Chris reported. – We're closing in on Ada Wong.
- HQ here. Copy that.
She was on the second floor, making her way deeper into the structure. We ran through the whole hangar to reach her, but the stairway that we were supposed to take was raised up.
- We need to get up those stairs. – Chris said. – Hurry, we can't let her get away. – I looked around and saw what looked to be a control room for the hangar on the floor above us.
- Let's go up there. – I said and we ran to the stairs through which we would reach the control room. Of course the raised stairway wasn't our only problem, because somehow a bulkhead was lowered, covering the door that Ada had just went through. – Well that's just great, what else can go wrong? How the hell are we supposed to get the bulkhead open?
- We'll figure something out. – Chris answered. – That's our job. We have a mission to complete. Got it?
- Yeah, I got it.
- Maybe we can blow it open. – Piers pointed out, which actually seemed like a pretty good idea.
When we took the stairs to the upper floor, we walked out on a pathway, taking out any hostiles that would approach us.
- Hey, Piers! I found something to take care of that bulkhead! – Chris said pointing at something. I followed the direction and saw a rocket.
- Are you serious?! – I spoke up. – We don't even know how powerful that thing is! It might blow the whole place, including us, to pieces!
- Got any better ideas? – Chris and Piers said in unison. I thought for a second.
- Fine, we'll do it your way. But if we die because of this, know that I will be very upset at the both of you and will make sure to haunt both of you for the rest of the afterlife.
The men just laughed at me and we tried to reach the rocket. Unfortunately, there was a gap between the pathways. Chris got down on one knee and was ready to help me get over the gap. I took a few steps back and then ran towards him. I used Chris' hands as a step to jump over the gap, with him pushing my foot so that there would be more force in the leap. I landed on the other side but before I could move any further the pathways moved and turned to different sides with great force.
- Minnie, you OK? – Piers asked.
- Yeah, I'm fine. – I answered regaining my balance.
- Just keep going. – Chris ordered. – We'll meet up eventually.
I did as I was told and ran straight for the rocket. On my way I encountered the same creature with a shell on its back that we've first encountered in Edonia. It was hard killing it, but nevertheless, I managed. By the time I reached the rocket, Chris and Piers were making their way to my side of the pathway over a metal structure. The rocket had one of its panels open, that showed me its wires and other controlling systems.
- How the fuck am I supposed to make it fly?! – I exclaimed, looking at all the wires in front of me.
- You're the genius here. – Piers said shooting more of those things down, covering me. – Think of something.
I glared at him and just yanked a few of the wires out. There was electricity coming from the ends of the wires, so I just touched the mechanism with those ends. I short circuited the whole mechanism and the rocket engaged. Piers grabbed me and fell down to the floor on top of me, covering me from the heat of the rocket that had just flew straight into the bulkhead.
- See? I told you you'd think of something. – He said pulling himself up on his arms. At one moment our faces were just inches away from each other's and unwillingly I remembered the hotel where we stayed when we found Chris. I don't even know why, since we were literally in the middle of a war, I wanted for that moment to repeat itself now. I wanted to feel the sniper's lips on my own. But the explosion from the rocket hitting the bulkhead brought me back to reality and, discontented, I stood up. I don't know if it really happened or not, but I think I saw discontent in Piers' face as well.
- Come on, you two. We have to get those stairs down. – Chris said and we got down to the ground floor of the hangar.
Of course we were greeted by swarms of hostiles that were ready to kill us. The fight between us was long and tiring, but somehow we managed to kill them all. Once everything was clear we looked around for a way to get up to the control room. We walked through a door and found ourselves outside. We ran up the stairs with no defiance at all and saw a door that would lead us back to the inside of the carrier and straight into the control room. I walked up to the huge control panel in the control room and pulled the lever. Through the window we saw the stairway being lowered.
- HQ to Alpha. Fighting in the city has spread. You need to apprehend Ada Wong now.
- Copy that. – Chris answered. – Tell our boys to hang in there. Come one, let's go.
We went downstairs and saw how a jet was lowered down, with one of those robotic things in the cockpit, and started shooting at us.
- Are you kidding me?! – Piers shrieked.
- I think we've overstayed our welcome. – Chris commented.
- Ditto. – I muttered horrified at the amount of enemies that has appeared in front of us. – Chris, we'll just be wasting time and ammo if we try to take on all of them.
- She's right, Captain. – Piers agreed.
- Alright then. We have to reach those stairs and track Ada. Run straight for the stairway, don't look back, and kill as much of the hostiles as you need in order to reach the target. Got it? – Chris ordered and Piers and I nodded. – Then let's go!
And with that we dashed through the hangar and straight to the lowered stairway. The bullets were all around us. Most of them missed us, but some did hit the target. I was shot in the shoulder and arm, but I knew that at the moment there was no time to inspect the wounds. We had a bit of relief once we reached the door that Ada had vanished behind. I quickly inspected my injuries only to see that it was nothing serious. There was no time to rest, because we had to continue. Coming through the door with our weapons ready, we heard Ada's voice over the speakers.
- Can you feel it spreading through your body, yet? I'm just giving you exactly what you gave me, Simmons. At first you'll be afraid, but don't worry. You're just becoming the monster you always were. You and everyone else on the planet. You and your Family may have shaped the world into what it is today, but starting tomorrow, it's all going to change.
When the voice disappeared we looked at each other concerned.
- I don't like the sound of that. – I murmured talking about what he had just heard. Neither of the men said anything, but I could see it in their faces that they were thinking about the worst case scenario.
We went further into the carrier and took the elevator up. We were on the higher floor, and before the elevator door opened, we saw a woman in red go in through a door.
- It's Ada! – Chris yelled and we ran after her.
We tried following her, but the door closed and locked in front of our noises, so we had to go around it. We've encountered more hostiles on our way and had to kill them before proceeding any further. We finally reached the door that Ada went through from the other side and continued our search for her on the inside of the carrier. Finally, in one of the rooms we saw her going upstairs. We ran after her, but were stopped by 3 hostiles attacking us. When we took them out we were able to take the stairs to the upper floor.
We walked into what looked like a control room of some sort and once again saw Ada over the window. She was outside, looked at us and continued on with whatever she had to do. We quickly ran after her, jumping through the window we have just seen her through. Once outside, we saw her use the grapple gun and pull herself onto a higher level of the carrier.
- Dammit, she's toying with us! – Piers yelled frustrated. I would've agreed with him, but there was something on my mind. Ada's clothes. She once again had changed her clothes. *What the fuck is going on here?* was the only thought in my head.
Since we didn't have the same gadget she did, we had to catch up to her the old-fashioned way. We entered the carrier once again and ran up the stairs into another control room. The only problem here was that in order to proceed, we needed to open the door with a valve, while the hostiles were coming at us.
- I'll take care of the valve! – Piers said. – Buy me some time!
- Right! Minnie, you stay close to Piers and watch the window. I'll look after the door. – Chris ordered.
It took Piers a few moments, which seemed like ages to us, to open the hatch, while we were killing off the hostiles. Once the hatch was opened and the ladder was lowered, we were able to proceed further. After the ladder there was a flight of stairs and then again another ladder. During this day I probably exercised more than during a whole year.
No wonder we had to go up that much stairs and ladders, because we finally ended up on the top floor (something like a roof) of the carrier, with Ada standing in front of us. And once again her clothes were the blue dress and red scarf.
- Ada! – Chris yelled out as all three of us aimed our weapons at her. She had a gun in one hand, a cell-phone in the other and a briefcase by her feet. She turned around facing us.
- Still haven't had enough, huh? – She spoke up. – Even after losing all your men – again? – I saw how Chris got more furious by the second. – With your track record I gotta say, I'd hate to be a member of your team, Chris. – Chris took a step closer to her, but Piers stopped him.
- No, Chris. – I said.
- Don't listen to her, Captain. – Piers tried to calm Chris down.
- But where are my manners. – The woman in front of us continued. – I mean, really, I should be thanking your men… for being such good test subjects. – Chris fired a shot, knocking the gun out of Ada's hand.
- Ever since Edonia, all I've ever wanted is to see you dead. – Chris spoke. – But this isn't about vengeance, it's about justice. It's over, Ada.
- You're right, it is. – She said matter-of-factly. – The aircraft carrier is preparing to launch. And the dead will flood the streets. Déjà vu, boys – Raccoon revisited. But this time, it won't be just one city. It'll be the whole world!
- You, bitch! – I yelled out ready to pull the trigger, but before I could a helicopter appeared behind Ada.
A man with a sniper rifle in the helicopter aimed in our direction and fired a shot. But instead of hitting us, the bullet hit Ada and the helicopter flew away.
- You got me. – Ada said holding the wound in her chest. – Well played. But no one can stop it now…
And with those words she fell off the edge of the carrier's roof. We ran to the edge only to see how her body connected with the cement floor of the carrier, blood splattered all around her.
- Oh, God. – I muttered, feeling a bit sick from the view.
- Dammit! – Piers yelled out. – What the hell just happened? – Piers opened the briefcase that was standing beside Ada. It contained an ampoule of some sort of orange-red liquid. – This looks like a different strain. There are two missing.
- Just take what's left. – Chris ordered. – We'll bring it back to HQ for analysis. This is Alpha Leader! I need a report on the missing vessels ASAP!
- The city has been compromised and we've lost contact with all local assets! – HQ reported. – We need more time.
- Just great. – I mumbled as I brushed a hand over my hair.
- You OK? – I looked up to see Piers staring at me, concerned. This was very good question, because I wasn't sure what the answer was. All my life I wanted to see Ada dead and now she is. I was hoping to feel relief, but there was absolutely none. There was something else going on, but I couldn't understand what. She died too easily. I sacrificed my whole life to kill her. I had thousands of opportunities to do so, but somehow she always survived or would just disappear. I don't understand how it is that she got shot so damn easy.
- Yeah, I'm fine. – I muttered. It was obvious that Piers knew something was on my mind, but he let it go, because at the time being we had a lot bigger problem to take care of.
- We don't have time! – Chris continued his talk with HQ. – The terrorist assault was just a diversion! The real attack will spread the virus globally!
- Now what? – I asked referring to the whole situation about the virus.
- Let's check the rear hangar. – Chris said. – There have gotta be some planes back there. – We ran for the elevator and took it to go down.
- Alpha Team, this is HQ. We've confirmed that Wong was telling the truth. There's a fully armed aircraft carrier in open water not far from your location. Satellite imaging indicates they're getting ready to fire missiles on the mainland. It's imperative that you stop them from launching even a single one.
- Copy that, HQ. – Chris replied as we left the elevator. – They bay is just up ahead. Hurry!
We ran further when the whole carrier moved, swaying in sync with the water around it.
- This is making me seasick. – I pointed out. – You think this tub is gonna last much longer?
- I don't want to hang around to find out. – Chris said. – Come on! – We approached a door that should have led us to the hangar, but it was electronically locked. – Dammit! We need three separate passcodes to get this open.
- Fantastic. – Piers commented. – Well, let's go see if we can hunt them down.
- Let's split up. – I suggested. – That way we'll cover more ground in less time.
- But we'll be more vulnerable on our own. We would save time, yes, but we might get hurt or worse. – Piers retorted. I agreed with him that my way it would be more dangerous, but we didn't have time to spare. The both of us turned to Chris and spoke up in unison. – Chris? – He was the captain; he had to make these types of decisions. Chris thought for a while and then nodded.
- We'll split up. – He said. – But always be in touch. When you find the passcode let the others know. We meet back here. Got it? – Piers and I nodded. – OK then. Let's move out!
The three of us split up and ran into three different directions. I took the first door on the right. In front of me I saw a strange green creature eating the body of once a living human being.
- What the fuck are you? – I mumbled firing my gun at it.
It took me some time but the creature was finally torn in 2 pieces and calmly I started moving forward. But I heard a strange noise behind me. I turned around and saw how the two pieces of the creature came together and fixed itself, once again becoming a whole B.O.W. This time I fired more bullets at it and the creature was in 3 pieces: left hand, right hand and the rest of its body. Once again the parts started coming towards one another in order to make a whole body again. I took out my knife and threw it at one of the hands, pinning it to the floor, disabling it from moving. Also, I used my other knife to do the same with the other hand, leaving me to deal with the body. *If I shoot at it, I'll have more body parts to take care of, so I'm taking on the whole of you.* I looked around and saw a steel pipe laying on the floor. I grabbed the pipe and pierced it though the body of the monster, locking it in one place.
- Chris! Piers! – I reported. – Be careful out there. I've just encountered a new type of B.O.W. This one's unbeatable.
- What do you mean? – Piers' voice came.
- The more you shoot at it, the more pieces it will tear into. And once in parts, it starts fixing itself up, the body parts are coming together to form a whole body again!
- Copy that. – Chris spoke. – Thanks for the update.
I ran around the cabins and many different rooms until I found a corpse lying in the corner of one cabin. I approached it and saw a passcode in the hand of this poor soul. I grabbed the passcode, contacting the guys.
- I got one of the passcodes. Returning to the meeting location.
- Copy that. – Chris said. – Piers and I will soon be there.
I quickly made my way back to the locked door, passing the pinned creature, which was still trying its best to get free. I finally got to the door and a few moments later, Chris and Piers appeared with the other two passcodes. The ship rocked once again, making the three of us stumble. Chris threw me the passcodes and I put all 3 of them into the panel in front of me. The bad thing was that Chris and Piers had our new friend on their heels, so they tried their best to keep it away while I took care of the door.
- Come on! – I yelled at them when the door opened and I ran through it.
- Right behind you! – Piers said as I heard two pairs of combat boots follow me in.
I'm not quite sure at what room we ended up, but there were a lot of pipes and a thing that looked like lava beneath our feet. As we were trying to make our way further, the same creature from before jumped out of the vent, knocking us down and targeting Chris and Piers. Luckily, the both of them reacted and the creature went tumbling down into the hot lava thing.
- I don't have time for you right now. – Chris muttered as we all stood up and continued our way to the hangar.
After a few more doors we finally reached the rear hangar. In front of us was a military jet that we would use to get out of here. When we approached the jet we stopped dead in our tracks. There was one thought running through our heads. There are 3 of us and only 2 places in the jet. Someone would have to be left behind. But before any solutions were made, I felt a sting on the back of my head and everything went black.
