Chapter 25 Comfort and Recovery

Sesshomaru stood looking out the window of the infirmary as they waited for them to bring Yusuke. His arms were around Rin, holding her in place in front of him so as to keep her from pacing or from going to look for them. They waited for about fifteen minutes and Rin was about to try for the door again when it opened and Yusuke was brought in on a stretcher; unconscious.

"Yusuke!" Rin ran over to him, touching his neck to find his pulse, she sighed in relief. "Thank God."

"Miss, please allow us to take care of him."

"Rin." Sesshomaru pulled her back so the healers could take Yusuke into a private room to treat him.

"I'm a trained healer Sesshomaru; shouldn't I take care of him?" Rin said looking up at him.

"Let them do their job. You can make sure they don't miss anything later." He said stroking her hair.

Just then another stretcher was pushed in, this one with Yomi. It was closely followed by his son, Shura, and several guards; one of whom held Shura back from going into the private room where they started Yomi's treatment.

"But I want to stay with Father!" Shura said his eyes and voice full of worry.

"Young master, please, let the healers do they're work." said the guard that had a hold on Shura's arm.

"Shura," Rin said, and was noticed by the boy for the first time, "why don't you come and sit with me while you wait since I'm not allowed to see Yusuke." She held out a hand to the boy.

Shura was considering the hand and seemed to be about to take it when one of the guards stepped between them. "My name is Sanosuke. Who would you be to address master Shura so casually?" The demon was obviously trying to remain polite while protecting his charge.

"My name is Rin, my mate…"

"Is this Sesshomaru." Sesshomaru said as he stepped up behind his mate and rapped an arm around her waist.

Shura stepped from behind Sanosuke whose eyes had grown wide staring at Sesshomaru. "She is the one Father wished to mate but did not get to keep. Father introduced Rin to me before the tournament." Rin held out her hand again, but this time he ignored it and walked past her. "I am not a child that needs a hand to hold."

"Of course," Rin said smiling, "will you sit with me by the window. I'm worried about Yusuke and would be grateful for the company."

They settled into a couple of the chairs next to the window to wait.

An hour past, the sun was setting and few words passed among the people present in the outer infirmary. Once the northern guards saw that Shura was in no danger and news was slow in coming about their lord, one guard remained and the rest went back to see how things where going with the tournament.

Rin caught Shura's slight shiver from the corner of her eye. "Is there a blanket around? It's a bit chilly in here."

Sesshomaru lifted an eye brow at her but went to the infirmaries linen closet and pulled out a large blanket for his mate.

Rin took it gratefully, "Thank you, Love," and unfolding the blanket she spread it across both herself and Shura.

"I'm not a weak human; I don't get cold so easily." The boy said hotily.

"But I am. You're being nice enough to sit with me so I am glad to be able to share; besides this blanket is far too big for just me." Rin smiled down at Shura as he huffed but pulled the blanket up to his chin.

After a few moments Rin felt a light poke on her leg, she looked down to see Shura looking out the window, but she felt another poke. Rin slipped one hand down to the space between her and the boy; Shura gripped her hand tightly under the blanket, and Rin pretended not to notice.

Soon Shura was curled up asleep against Rin's side, their hands still together under the blanket.

"Sesshomaru?" Rin whispered, not wanting to wake Shura.

"Yes, dear one?" Sesshomaru answered his voice also low.

"What's happening with the tournament? Are they still fighting?"

"They have stopped for the night." Sesshomaru settled into the empty chair next to Rin, his tail moved to rest between them and she relaxed into the soft warm pillow that her mate provided.

A feeling of movement beside her woke Rin, to see Yomi lifting Shura from his place next to her.

"Lord Yomi, are you alright?" Rin asked still half asleep.

Yomi chuckled, "Yes I will be fine Rin. Thank you for taking care of Shura for me; you are a true treasure."

Rin smiled and turning to snuggle into her mate's warmth, fell back into sleep.

Rin woke to find herself on the sofa of their private viewing room, Sesshomaru was sitting on the floor next to her and watching the tournament. Hearing her wake he turned to smile at her.

"Morning, dear one." He said and gave her a quick kiss.

"Morning." Rin buried her face in her pillow before shooting up into a sitting position. "Yusuke! Is he okay?"

"He's fine, his injuries are not serious but he won't wake up for awhile. The kaio-ken drains a user's energy very quickly; since he is not used to it he will probably be out for a few days."

"I'm glad he's alright." Rin said as she stretched. "Can I see him now?"

Sesshomaru smiled, "Yes, let's go check on him."

Rin watched over Yusuke most of the next week and as the days past she worried more and more as he was showing no sign of waking.

Sesshomaru almost had to drag her away from Yusuke's side to get some rest, telling her that one of the nurses would sit with him and would come for her if he woke. When the nurses did come a few hours later Rin rushed the Yusuke's room only to find him gone.

Rin sighed, "Where is he?"

"Come on lets find him." Sesshomaru led her out of the infirmary and to the main stadium, where they could here Enki, the new king speaking and see Yusuke standing with his friends. As the speech ended and they all turned to leave, Sesshomaru and Rin joined them and she captured Yusuke in a tight hug.

"Ouch, ouch, ouch. Rin I'm still injured and I really don't need Sesshomaru trying to kill me for touching you right now."

"Oh don't worry, your practically healed compared to last week; and Sesshomaru won't kill pack." Rin said but stepped back.

"Pack?" Yusuke asked rubbing his aching chest.

"Yeah, he marked you before the tournament right?"

"Is that why he licked me?"

Their friends started to laugh around them.

"Yusuke," Kurama chuckled, "Your dog demons."

"So that means he has to lick me?"

"Yep it does." Rin smiled. "You're family Yusuke and you are always welcome in our den."

"And when you are ready to learn about your heritage and blood inheritance, I will train you." Sesshomaru added.

"Sesshomaru doesn't just train anyone ether Yusuke, as far as I know it's only InuYasha and me who he's trained." Rin said

"Raizen, as well. It is an alpha's responsibility to make sure his pack is strong."

"Well, we'll see how things go." Yusuke muttered.

"When you're ready our den is on Genkai's shrine land." Rin told him.

"And how the heck am I supposed to find you in that wilderness?" Yusuke complained.

"If you cannot I have drastically over estimated you." Sesshomaru grinned at Yusuke's glair.

I love Shura I think I'll have to bring him back some time, maybe when he's older ;)
