A/N: Hey everyone! Sorry its been so long. Ive been so incredibly busy! Ive had this chapter ready for a little while, but I was debating whether or not to add anything, as its rather short. Eventually, I decided to just keep it little like this, as I like how it fits the chapter. So I'll try as best as I can to keep writing and get you a longer chapter soon! Summer is coming so that's a good thing for updates! Bye! Enjoy!
The following March, Emma and Snow were having one of their weekly girls nights. Two bowls that had been licked clean of ice-cream sundaes sat on the table in front of them, along with chocolate chip cookies and gummy worms. Emma leaned against Snow as they watched the end credits begin to roll by for the night's movie selection, An American Tale.
"Come on Emma" Snow said. "It's time for bed."
"Mama" Emma pleaded. "Can we read a story tonight?"
"Oh I don't know about that. It's getting very late."
"Pleeeeease" Emma pulled out the puppy dog face, her eyes huge and her lip pouty.
"No!" Snow persisted. Emma looked down to the floor and rocked back and forth, holding the same face the entire time. It was the oldest trick in the book. Every little kid knew that they could sucker anything out of their parents with it.
"Alright" Snow finally said, caving to the pressure. Emma immediately perked up.
"Great!" she said. "I'll get the book and meet you in there!"
Snow laughed and walked into her room. She had barely had time to sit down on the bed when Emma came racing in, her favorite storybook clutched to her chest. Snow patted the bed next to her and Emma hopped u, climbing under the covers.
"So" Snow said. "Which story does Emma want to read tonight?"
"My favorite one" Emma giggled.
"Alrighty then" Snow said and flipped to the page containing the story of when Prince Charming woke Snow White up from the sleeping curse.
About ten minutes later, Emma was smiling as Snow read the last lines of the story. She had her favorite teddy bear held close to her chest, and Snow did her best, as always, not to cry while reading the story.
"And yes, she was beyond hope, beyond saving. This was her end. When Prince Charming saw his beloved Snow White in her glass coffin, he knew that all that was left was to say good-bye. He had to give her one last kiss, and when he did, true love proved more powerful than any curse. A pulse of pure love shuttered out and engulfed the land, waking up Snow White…" as Snow finished the story, Emma repeated the last words along with her
"…and bringing light to the darkness." Emma and Snow laughed and smiled as Snow closed the book and put it to the side.
"Alright miss Emma" she said. "Now it's really time for bed" She climbed to the other side and brought herself under the covers next to Emma. Suddenly, she noticed that Emma's face had grown solemn. She was looking down.
"What's wrong Em?" she said, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Do you think I'll ever get to meet Daddy?"
Snow gasped inside. She always knew that days like this would come. She knew that Emma would begin to miss what she had never had, that she would need to provide comfort.
"Yes" she finally said.
"Really?" Emma sighed
"Yes really. You know why?"
"Why?"
"Because I have hope. And I know that he loves you. And true love is the most powerful magic of all."
Emma tried to smile, but Snow noticed a tear trickling down her face. She laid down and pulled Emma in close next to her.
"Do you remember that nice song from the movie we just watched Emma?"
"Which one?"
"The one about believing that you're going to find the people you love. Somewhere Out There"
"Yes" Emma said. "But what does that have to do with finding Daddy?" Snow smiled at her and rubbed her back gently. Softly, she began to sing.
Somewhere Out There, beneath the pale moonlight
Someone's thinking of me and loving me tonight
Somewhere out there someone's saying a prayer
That we'll find one another in that big somewhere out there
Emma smiled. "You're talking about Daddy aren't you?" she said, stopping her mother. "And how he misses us just like we miss him?"
"Yes" Snow said. Then she continued to sing
And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star
Then, Emma began to sing on her own
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky
Before long, mother and daughter were singing together, cuddled up in bed.
Somewhere out there, if love can see us through
Then we'll be together, somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true
Snow looked to her daughter to see her sound asleep, having being soothed by the lullaby. She kissed Emma on the forehead, laid her down on the pillow to the right and turned out the light. Right before she put herself to sleep, she thought for a moment. Sometimes in this new world, she had let herself give up what she always knew was most important: hope. Through trying to comfort Emma, she had in turn comforted herself. Through the pain of loss she had forgotten that Charming was out there somewhere, wishing for her just as she was for him.
In the Enchanted Forest, Prince Charming, as Snow would call him, looked down at his true love's sleeping face. Oh how he wanted to believe that she was sleeping, but he knew that the reality was far more harsh. He knew that this was the end, this was the death of his true love. Wanting one final chance to say goodbye, he leaned down and kissed her, straight on the lips. He didn't feel the gust of wind that passed by, nor did he see the bright flash of colorful light that spread out from around them. When he separated his lips from Snow's, he was taken aback, because suddenly, Snow gasped and opened her eyes and…
David Nolan sat up sharply in his bed in Storybrooke, Maine. He felt himself sweating. Why did his dream make him feel like this? For that matter, why was he dreaming about being Prince Charming waking up Snow White? After virtually no time however, he shrugged his shoulders.
"Weird" he thought aloud. Shaking off the dream as if it were something totally normal, he laid down and immediately fell back into a dreamless sleep.
That night, David was sitting in the Storybrooke diner, Granny's, sharing a beer with his friend Graham. They were mid conversation about David's dream that morning.
"I don't understand" David said. "Why would I have a dream about something like that?"
"Honestly" Graham said. "I really think you're overthinking this. Everyone has weird dreams."
"It was the way I felt when I woke up it just felt so…I don't know…troubling"
"Look. It was just some crazy dream. You'll forget about in a day or so"
"You're probably right." David laughed. "Hey maybe it means I'm going to meet my soulmate sometime soon" He joked
"Ya sure alright." Graham said sarcastically.
"Hey she's somewhere out there."
"I'll drink to that" The two men clinked their bottles together and took a sip.
A few stools down, Regina Mills was listening to the whole conversation. She was concerned. This wasn't supposed to happen. No one was supposed to have any kind of inkling about their old lives. This was probably because Snow and her little brat had escaped. She couldn't risk Charming remembering. It was time to take matters into her own hands.
She looked around the diner to see if she could find someone to help her with her new defense mechanism. At that moment, she saw Kathryn Fredricks, known in their land as Princess Abigial, walking into the diner. Regina simply flicked her hand slightly and her will was done.
"You know what?" David said to Graham. "I'm tired, I think I'm gonna walk home"
"Sure" Graham said. "See ya"
"See ya" David began to walk out.
"And keep looking for that soulmate!" Graham shouted. David was looking back and laughing. Not watching where he was going, he bumped face first into someone.
"Oh" he said, turning sharply around. "I'm so sorry"
"No it's…it's fine." Katherine said. She looked up, meeting David's eyes, and Regina's spell took hold.
"Hi" Katherine said, sweetly.
"Hi" David said, seemingly smitten.
"I'm uh…Katherine"
"David" The two smiled at each other. "Can I buy you a drink?" David flirted.
"How about a coffee?" Katherine said. David laughed and nodded, taking her arm and leading her to the bar. Regina watched on, smiling misceviously.
A/N: Ya I know it was short and the beginning was really corny, but I thought it was sweet. Oh well. That's it. Bye guys! Good luck with finals, or graduation, or whatever youre going through right now! You can do it! Bye!
