No, you're eyes aren't playing tricks on you. Zion is back! I've fought with this decision since ending this story and I've decided that I'm not ready to let go just yet. This chapter is short because I'm still trying to work my way back into this story, but they will get longer as time goes on. No worries, I haven't abandoned or forgotten about any of my other stories. Life has just been hectic. So, with that said, I hope you enjoy the continuation of Zion.
The next morning, Fitz decided to tip toe out of bed and make breakfast for his wife. She had been up every two hours feeding Lexi, and he knew she was exhausted. Thankfully she was choosing to sleep whenever Lexi did, obviously something she had learned with Zion.
As he made his way downstairs, Fitz's heart sank as he realized that he had experienced every moment of every child's birth and infancy. All except for Zion. Although he honestly understood and held no animosity towards Liv for making the decision to raise Zion on her own, he couldn't help the moments of sadness that occasionally rose up as he realized all he had truly missed.
The pregnancy and birth. His first words and first steps. The moment they realized Zion was brilliant beyond his years. The decision to have him tested and the strategizing that came after when trying to figure out how to keep his growing brain stimulated. Of course he'd be able to live these moments with Lexi, but those moments for Zion were gone forever.
Forcing himself to take a deep breath, Fitz shook the thoughts from his mind and made his way downstairs. As he walked the steps, he took in each picture Of the children that hung on display. He honestly loved looking at how much all of them had flourished over the years, and now Lexi would be joining their ranks but hopefully not too soon.
When he finally reached the fridge, Fitz looked inside, trying to figure out what Liv would want to eat. He looked at the clock and realized they still had a lot of time before the kids were due home. The only visitor they were expecting soon was the nurse. Once she was finished checking Liv and Alexis, she would be on her way out the door, leaving them alone again.
He was so thankful for the support system they had. Everyone wanted to give them, mainly Liv a little time to rest up a little before the Grant home was full of their lively bunch of kids.
Fitz pulled out eggs and sausage along with some fruit and began making his wife breakfast.
"You are so beautiful Lexi. Just like your brother. I'm so glad you're here. I know you can't see me clearly, but if you could, you'd see the tears rolling down my cheeks. I just love you so much."
Liv was sitting in the rocking chair, enjoying the chance to bond with her daughter. She looked down at the tiny human who was happily nursing, and couldn't help but feel her heart growing in this moment.
For so many years it seemed like she and Fitz would never get to this point but here they were, married, and with two babies of their own. Babies they created out of their love. As she watched her daughter nurse, Liv couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt as she realized she had stolen these moments between Fitz and Zion. She knew there was no sense dwelling on the past, but she couldn't help but have those moments where the guilt would slowly settle in.
The first pang hit shortly after Lexi was born. Liv woke up in the middle of the night to feed their whimpering newborn, and Fitz woke up as well. He sat by her side and stroked their daughter's soft golden brown hair as she hungrily gulped til her stomach was content. It was the first moment that she realized she didn't only rob Fitz and Zion of those moments, she robbed herself of them as well. But she knew there was no use crying over spilled milk. Over the past two years, Fitz had spoken that phrase to her countless times. All she could do now was make the most of the time they had, and make sure neither of them ever missed another moment in either of their children's lives.
Liv slowly began to rock in the chair as she began humming Hushabye. To this day she remember her mother singing that song to her when things were going bad in her life, and Liv only wishes that she would turn out to be as amazing of a mother as her mother had been for her.
When she heard the soft purrs coming from her daughter, Liv knew it was time to lay her back down. She checked her blanket to make sure it was still swaddled correctly, then laid Lexi down before making her way into the bathroom to freshen up a little.
She had just come out of the bathroom when Fitz walked in with a tray full of food. He walked over to her wearing that sexy grin she had become addicted to, and set the tray down on her lap. It was in that moment that Liv realized just how horrible she had been to this man the night before, granted she was in labor, but here he was making her breakfast in bed. She was truly lucky to have him in her life.
"What's all this?" She asked as if her eyes weren't assaulting the spread Fitz laid out before her.
"Breakfast for my queen while the princess naps." Fitz said as he sat down on his side of the bed and stole a piece of bacon that he decided at the last minute to add to the already big breakfast. He watched intently as Liv picked at the fruit on her tray until an idea popped into his head.
"Hey Liv." He began as he reached and picked up his phone.
"Yea babe?"
"I think it's time we introduce Lexi to the world."
Liv looked at Fitz as if he had lost his mind. Their daughter was only a few hours old. There was no way she was agreeing to have people around her just yet. As if he read her mind, Fitz chuckled as he unlocked his phone and stood from the bed.
He walked over to Lexi's bassinet, and snapped a picture of the newborn who was swaddled in a pink blanket. She had a pink cap covering her head, with a little golden tiara on the front. When he noticed her scrunch up her face, he took a few more picture returning back to the bed. He opened Instagram, and captioned the picture "Welcome Princess Lexi" with a princess and a vibrating heart emoji and the hashtags DaddysGirl and IVB.
He showed it to Liv who smiled in response, then simply nodded her approval for him to post it. Immediately the picture had prompted over a thousand responses, and Fitz smirked as he heard his phone alert him of a text message. When he opened it, it was a message from Cyrus telling him to check his twitter feed.
Instantly becoming curious, Fitz clicked on twitter and found that Princess Lexi Grant was already trending. Deciding that she wanted in on the fun, Liv jumped on Instagram and responded to Fitz's post with "such a daddy's girl. We are so blessed, now come back to bed" with a winking emoji and the hashtags LifeIsGood, IVB, and LazySundayMorning. She went even further an jumped on twitter and sent a tweet out to Fitz saying that it was time to feed the baby. Immediately her notifications were going crazy and Liv smiled as she and Fitz set their phones down, and cuddled on the middle of the bed.
It had been a while since they had a peaceful morning to themselves. Of course Karen and Jerry were old enough to help with Teddy and Zion, but the four of them had the tendency to argue over the silliest of things.
Liv laid silently snuggled into Fitz's side as she thought about how blessed they truly were. Zion seemed to be ecstatic to be a big brother, in spite of his emotional breakdown a few months ago. She couldn't help but wonder how he would be when it came to sharing his sister with everyone else. He had been ok last night when he first met her, and Liv prayed it would continue.
"Stop that." Fitz said, pulling Liv from her thoughts.
"Stop what?" Liv asked as if she had no clue what he was talking about.
"I can hear your thoughts. I feel your feelings."
"What is this? ET?" Liv chuckled at her own little joke.
"I know you're worried about how Zion is going to be. He'll be fine. I'm sure of it. He knows he is loved. There's nothing to worry about."
"Hmmm…"
"Get some rest. The nurse will be here soon." Liv took a deep breath and exhaled before drifting off to sleep, all the while praying Fitz was right.
"Hey Zi-" Fitz greeted as he opened the door. He didn't have a chance to even finish his son's name as Zion blew past his father and made a bee line straight for his parent's bedroom. Fitz shook his head but couldn't help but smile as he greeted Eli and exchanged pleasantries before the men too made their way upstairs.
When Fitz entered the bedroom, pride was the only word that could describe what he saw. Zion was sitting on his side of the bed with his back against his pillows. Lexi was in his arms, and Liv was helping Zion hold her head up in his arms.
"Look daddy. I'm holding my baby." Zion whispered as he was trying to be mindful that his little Sister was sleeping peacefully in his arms.
"I see that buddy. You are such a great big brother." Fitz praised. He was truly proud of how mindful Zion was being with her.
The three adults watched as Zion was all smiles holding his sister. He leaned down and began whispering to her
"Hi Lexi. I'm your brodder Zion. Everyone calls me Zy, 'cept uncle Cy. He says Cy-Zy because our names rhyme. You're very little so mommy said I have to teach you things and keep you safe. I'm gonna keep you safe. I promise because you're my stitster and I'm upposed to. I love you Lexi." Zion gave his little sister a tender kiss on her forehead and Fitz smiled as he had actually caught the moment on his phone. Liv looked up at Fitz and could already tell he was posting the moment to Instagram. Normally she wouldn't agree to being this public with the children, but she was married to the former president, and moments like these were to be expected.
Two hours later the house was packed. Karen, Teddy and Jerry had returned, and Liv's Gladiators were all there. Zion stuck by his baby, peeking in her bassinet every time she made a noise. When she finally began to stir, Zion breathe a sigh of relief because that meant he could finally hold his baby again.
Everyone stepped out of the room, allowing Liv a moment to feed Lexi. Fitz instructed the kids to go unpack their bags except for Zion, who already had everything he needed at everyone's house. Once she was finished, Liv called everyone back into the room, and of course Zion was the first on the bed, waiting anxiously to hold his baby.
"Bud, do you mind if Karen, Jerry, and Teddy get a chance to to hold Lexi too?" Fitz asked and even though he nodded, Fitz could see the sadness in his son's eyes. He watched as Zion forced a smile on his face, and moved towards the bottom of the bed to allow the others to have a turn holding his baby as he rested in his father's arms. He watched each move everyone made as they were holding his sister, making sure they were holding her correctly. After a half hour passed, Karen, Jerry, and Teddy made their way into Karen's room to watch a movie. They asked Zion if he wanted to join them. Fitz saw the way his eyes lit up at the invite, then he looked over at his baby sister and declined the offer. He said he was happy being with his baby.
When it was finally Zion's turn again, he jumped out Fitz's arms and made his way next to Liv. She positioned the baby in his arms, and supported her head just as she had earlier.
As they watched on, Eli had told them how well behaved Zion had been, but that was to be expected. What they didn't bank on was Eli telling them that Zion spent the entire day telling anyone that would listen that he was a "big brodder" and he was going to help his mommy and keep his baby safe.
It was then that Fitz began to sense what could possibly be a problem, but he decided to shrug it off for now. Besides, when Lexi was first born, Zion had been thrilled to have everyone come meet her. Fitz just hoped that attitude remained.
It wasn't until later that evening that Fitz decided he needed to speak to Zion. Hours had gone by since his return and although everyone had gone on with their day, Zion was still snuggled up with his sister. It wasn't the world's worst problem, in fact, the way Zion was welcoming the baby was a blessing. But Fitz still worried that Zion was taking his "oath" to protect his sister all the time, too literally.
As he was making his way into the room, he heard Liv talking to Zion.
"I know baby. But protecting your sister doesn't mean that you have to stay by her side all the time. You have to have fun too. It just means that if you see something that might hurt her, or if you see her doing something that will hurt her, you'll stop her. But for now all she's going to do is sleep. So mommy wants you to go have fun with the others. Okay?"
"Okay mommy."
Fitz stepped into the room as Zion was running past him to go find the others in Jerry's room. They were apparently having an Xbox showdown, and Fitz smiled as he heard them cheering as Zion entered the room.
He walked over to the bed while Liv laid Lexi down in her bassinet. When she turned around, his arms were open wide, and Liv accepted that invitation as she climbed onto the bed and snuggled into her husband's arms.
"We have some really great kids." Fitz said as he kisses the top of Liv's head.
"We really do Fitz. We are very blessed." Were her last words before she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. Fitz laid there holding her as she slept, knowing she needed her rest. Without realizing it, Fitz too closed his eyes and drifted off for a nap.
