Chapter 10: The Painter and The Fox

A few days later the two young Assassin's stood in front of a familiar building. Kagome grinned as she walked ahead of Ezio who was still looking at the building. Kagome knocked twice before opening the door and stepping inside. Leonardo who was bent over his desk turned around to see Kagome walking towards him with Ezio closing the door. "Kagome….? Ezio….? You are still alive!" Leonardo exclaimed, elated that his friends were alive. He rushed to embrace his two friends, Ezio first, then Kagome who happily returned the embrace.

Kagome smiled at the inventor, "It's good to you too, Leonardo."

Ezio puts his hand on Kagome's shoulder and smiled at Leonardo, "Look at this place! The past two years have been kind to you."

"But you are not the same at all, are you?" Leonardo asked with a concerned frown.

Ezio sighed, and looked into the Inventor's eye, "I was hoping you might be able to help us with something."

"Anything for you two, my friends!"

Kagome reached behind her and grabbed the Codex page that was in her back pouch and handed it to Leonardo. "We found another one. We were hoping you could translate it."

Leonardo grinned and took the Codex Page from Kagome. He walked to his desk and rolled the scroll out to read it with Ezio reading over his shoulder. Kagome leaned her hip against the desk as Leonardo and Ezio examined the Codex Page. "Hmmm. This one is tricky to break...Clever in it's use of ancient languages. Maybe if I just...Oh... Oh! It seems to be a manual of sort for different assassination technique."

Ezio's eyes widened and moved to get a better look at the scroll, "May I see it?"

Leonardo waves Ezio away before looking closer at the scroll, "Wait! What's that?!

It's not so much a design this time... Just a series of sketches." Leonardo put his quill pen down and looked at the designs. "Hmmmm. What to make of all this…" he looked at Ezio's hidden blade and then he grabbed his arm and grinned. "Hoho! Of course! And why not! What an inspired idea!"

"Can you make it for me while I try what's in that manual fragment?" Ezio asked.

"Take it, I'll have my assistant set up some dummies for you to practice with. Eh, Vincenzo!" Leonardo called, making his young assistant come running into the room.

"Maestro?" Vincenzo asked.

"Go set up some dummies for Ezio to practice with, outside in the courtyard." he ordered. The teen nodded and ran from the room.

Ezio turned to Kagome, "Are you coming?" he asked her.

Kagome shook her head, "No, I'm going to stay here. You go practice." Ezio nodded his head and walked out of the workshop to the courtyard. Kagome turned to Leonardo who started to tinker already with the designs for the new hidden blade. Kagome moved to a free chair across from the working inventor and sat down while Leonardo worked. Kagome sighed and closed her eyes, drifting off into meditation.

Souta looked up at his sister with wide brown eyes, and grinned. "Kagome-nee-chan, promise me, that no matter what happens, that you go on fighting, and find a way home."

Kagome looked down at him for a moment before putting her hand on top his head and ruffling his hair softly. "Otouto, I promise. I'll find us a way home…."

"...Ome! Kagome!" Leonardo's voice, made her jump and look up at her friend.

"Leo? What is it?" she asked, running a hand down her face.

Leonardo frowned at the sadness lingering in her eyes, he had looked up from his work to ask her for her opinion, but the young woman was in a dream like state. He gave her a concerned look. "I was going to ask if you wanted me to upgrade your blade and bracer, since I was already in the process in upgrading Ezio's. But it seems that something is bothering you." he said knowingly.

Kagome's eyes widened at his concern, before she lowered her eyes to the ground. "Leo, I'm fine. I was just thinking about…..Souta."

Footsteps approached her and she looked up to see Leo standing in front of her. He placed a hand on her shoulder and smiled softly, "If you ever want to talk about it, I'm here for you." he told her. Kagome blushed brightly before she nodded and looked away. Leonardo grinned and winked at her before going back to his work.

About a few hours later, Ezio sauntered his way inside the workshop. Kagome looked up at him and wrinkled her nose at the smell of him. She put a hand to her nose, at glared at him, "Ezio, you so are taking a bath later." she growled.

Ezio looked at her and smirked, "Only if you join me."

Kagome rolled her eyes and snorted, "As if, you fucking player. Anyway did you have fun killing Leonardo's dummies?" she asked him. Ezio grinned and nodded his head, satisfied with the death of the 'dummies'.

"I've done it! Come quickly! Look!" Leonardo called in triumph, he turned and waved the two Assassins over as he beamed and handed it to Ezio. "Take it, try it!"

Ezio took the new hidden blade and bracer from Leonardo and grinned, "Thank you, Leonardo."

"Non c'è di che!" Leonardo said, waving his hand around in dismissal, before handing Kagome her upgraded hidden blade.

"There's someone we need to "see" while we're here. We cannot approach him publicly... Would you know a way-" Ezio said as he put on his new hidden blade.

Leonardo's eyes widen, before he sighs quietly and muttered quietly, "La Volpe."

"The Fox...?"

"Sshhhhh!"

Kagome raised an eyebrow at that before turning her attention away from her new weapon to the two men. Ezio nodded his head to Leonardo, "Capisco...But do you know where a fox might roam...?"

"Perhaps, near the Mercato where the thieves dwell...Sta attento, amicos!"

Ezio put his hand on Leonardo's shoulder before pulling his hood up and walking out of the workshop. Kagome smiled before hugging Leonardo, "I'll see you soon Leo. And when I do, we're going to have to talk about some things." she said as she pulled back from the embrace.

Leonardo nodded and lightly brushed his lips against her forehead. "Fino ad allora mia cara."

Kagome blushed and put her hood up. She walked out of the workshop to where Ezio was waiting for her outside. She closed the door behind her and looked at Ezio, who gave her a smirk, she glared at him before leading the way. Ezio looked over at her with smirk, "So~" Ezio drawled out, "What was that about?"

Kagome ignored him and kept walking, but wasn't noticed by Ezio. "Let's just find this Fox already." she said after a few moments of silence.

Ezio sped up to walk in front of Kagome, walking backwards to face her. "But Kagome, I want to know what's going on between the two of you."

"Ezio. Drop. It!" she growled, making Ezio gulp and nod his head. "Good, now use your special eye thing."

Ezio sighed and did as he was told, he grinned in victory when he found their target. "I found it!"

"Great, lead the way then."

Ezio nodded and started to walk in the direction of their target when a man ran by bumped into the two, and stole both of their money. "What!? My pouch- my money!" Ezio exclaimed in anger. The two teens turn around to look at the thief, Kagome took a step forward, and glared at the man, "Oi, hand over our money, and you won't get hurt." she warned.

"Oh... your money...I don't have your money!" the thief snickered before running away.

Kagome took off after the thief, Ezio right behind her, she watched Ezio out of the corner of her eye briefly, before speeding up. After a few minutes of chasing, the thief quickly scaled a building and went onto the roof. Kagome growled before following after the man, Ezio right behind her.

"We have no interest in fighting you." Kagome said smoothly, as she walked towards the man just as slowly. "Just give our money back."

Ezio went to take a step forward, but a man's voice from behind them made Kagome falter in her steps. Kagome turned and sighed when she saw that it was La Volpe, she had met the man a few times when she went with Giovanni to meet with the man. Kagome turned to Ezio and relaxed her stance.

"La Volpe, It's good to see that you are well, my friend." Kagome said, making Ezio raise his eyebrows at her in confusion.

"Kagome, it is good to see you as well." La Volpe said, as he walked towards his thief. He took the money from the thief before dismissing the man. He tossed the money to Kagome as the man left the roof. Ezio blinked as Kagome and La Volpe talked as if they were old friends, surprised.

"La Volpe, we need information on Francesco de' Pazzi." Kagome told the man, making La Volpe rub his chin in thought.

"Ah yes, There's word on the street of a caravan just arrived from Roma. A secret meeting, to be held at sunset tonight. You can learn something of Francesco's whereabouts there." La Volpe said.

"Do you know where it is to be held?" Ezio asked.

"Ma certo, I know where it is Ezio." La Volpe said amused, as if the thought that he didn't know where was amusing.

Ezio blinked, before scowling, "Hey, how do you know my name?" he asked.

"It is my business to know everything in this city." La Volpe grinned before walking away, Kagome shrugged at Ezio before following the older Assassin. Ezio sighed and followed the two, feeling that something bad was about to happen.
