A/N: Please welcome, Chapter 4. This is a flashback to the day that Daryl's house burned down with his mother inside, so it's not going to be a very long chapter.
A Case of the Blues: Chapter 4
The sound of the fire engine was roaring through his head, bouncing off the sides of his skull. He chased it, knowing exactly where it would end up. Sure enough, by the time he reached his childhood home, he saw the bright embers rising, destroying everything that he had.
He was rooted to the spot. He couldn't move. Voices were a blur. Somebody grabbed his arm and smacked him around the face, but he couldn't react. He couldn't move his eyes from his home that was disappearing right in front of him.
Finally, he was able to focus. The noises around him became crisp, and the face that was shouting and spitting at him was perfectly clear to him. His father.
"THIS IS YER FAULT, DIP SHIT! YER MOM IS DEAD 'CAUSE OF YOU! I SHOULD JUS' THROW YA IN THE FIRE T' JOIN 'ER!"
Daryl stared into his father's eyes, before turning and running away. His voice was becoming distant, yet he could still distinguish the words: it's your fault.
It was his fault.
He kept running, unable to face anything. He ran up the side of the mountain, through the trees until he entered a clearing. In front of him stood a small cabin and he didn't hesitate to run inside and collapse onto the torn up sofa – the only thing inside the room.
And he cried.
He cried for his mom. He cried for his home.
** TWO YEARS LATER **
Daryl was making traps – something his father had taught him a few years ago – in order to catch a few rabbits that he could skin and eat. He hated doing it, but he refused to go back to his home where his father could take out his anger on him.
It was getting dark as he set the last of the traps in the treeline, and he could hear a faint voice calling out for help.
Calling out for him.
He ran towards the sound, stopping when he saw a young girl crouched down, staring at him through the darkness.
A/N: Sorry it's short. I just wanted a bit more back ground, and I wanted you guys to wait a bit longer for their reunion ;) Guilty!
Also, there won't be another chapter for a few days – I have a lot already prewritten, but I'm away for two days and so won't be able to update. Be patient though! Good things are coming!
