DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN ONE PIECE (OBVIOUSLY)
Dragon opened his eyes. A monitor beeped rhythmically to his right. He looked to his left, another machine. His head and entire body ached and he was disoriented, his eyes struggled to keep focus. There were voices outside his room, he sat up on the hospital bed and tried to listen. Not long after that, the door clicked and Rowan strode in.
"Dragon." Rowan looked paler and more disheveled than usual, his expression between the range of I'm glad that you're okay to I'm going to beat you up for getting in danger. He didn't waste any time before starting his interrogation. "What the hell did you—"
"Who are they?" Dragon's voice came out hoarse and throaty.
"What?" Rowan frowned, clearly unhappy to be cut off.
"The people talking out there. Who are they?"
"Dad, Sengoku, Tsuru." Rowan stopped, and a shadow of doubt crosses his face. "It's better if you—"
He was once again interrupted by the sudden entrance through the door. There was dad, Buddha, Tsuru-hag, and two other masked men who were dressed in white suits and cloaks.
"So this is Monkey D. Dragon?" asked one of the masked men.
"Yes." Dad's voice sounded frustrated, and somehow…terrified.
"I see." The same masked man responded in a rather impassive tone. He reached into his pocket and got out a set of pictures. He set them down in front of Dragon. They were the pictures of the unconscious bandits from the previous night, so Dragon wasn't imagining after all, they did lose consciousness. "Can you explain what you did to them?" The masked man asked.
Dragon turned nervous and frantic, so the bandits somehow ended up dead and now these creeps were suspecting him as the murderer? "N-nothing! I didn't even hit them, they just fell on their own!"
Across the room, he could see dad tightened his jaw, as if in pain. The masked man's tone turned pleased. "I see."
"Do you know what made them lose consciousness?" The bigger masked man behind him asked. Dragon shook his head, so he continued. "It's called the Conquerer's Haki. Very few people posses that ability, and you have them."
Dragon just stared at them, too exhausted and confused to respond. "But that's not it. This morning, we got reports that though the group of bandits you faced did regain consciousness as the victims of Conquerer's Haki are supposed to, their actions and speech were not coherent." His voice turned quite. "All of them have lost their sanity."
"He didn't do it." Dad spoke, his earlier controlled face now was bordered with panic. "It is impossible for Conquerer's Haki to drive men into insanity."
"Perhaps we just haven't encountered anyone who has such ability yet." The masked man's tone remained calm. "He is gifted. It would be such a waste to just leave his talent be."
"Well, what are you gonna do with him then?" Dad tried to sound calm and calculating, but his voice was clearly quavering.
The bigger masked man stepped forward and stood between Dragon and dad, he held out a piece of paper—signed paper, to let everyone see. "It appears that the Tenryuubito and Gorosei are interested in this kid's ability, they want him to enter our organization."
At this, dad lost any calm demeanour he had earlier, he slammed his fist to the table. "Who do you think you are?! You really think you can just—"
A flash of metal—and the shorter masked man was holding a knife to the vice admiral's throat. The world seemed to stop. How could he move so fast?!
"Who do we think we are?" The masked man chuckled whilst pressing the knife to dad's throat, "You can say that we work for the rulers of the world. And you know how they all are. We are just doing our job, and we do not want to cause any casualties."
Dad gritted his teeth when the man finally let loose of the knife. "So you CP0 finally admitted to be the slaves of the Government, huh?" Dad uttered the sentence with intensified disgust.
The bigger masked man laughed. His laugh was menacing and somehow, bordered with insanity. "Slaves. Government's dogs. Think whatever you want." He stepped closer to dad until they were face to face. "But do know that we are stronger than you, and more respected than you. So be a good boy and know your place, Vice Admiral Garp."
Sensing the incoming of a deadly fight, Dragon spoke out. "Stop it. Stop. So all this is only to recruit me to be a member of your organization, right?"
"Aha! See, as simple as that. Even your kid gets it, Mr. Vice Admiral" The shorter man clapped his hands together, and Dragon could hear the grin in his voice.
"And I have no choice but to agree."
"That's right." answered the man.
An inevitable future. What Dragon feared the most—it's happening, he no longer has any control over his future. Dragon brought his bruised hand and rubbed his eyes. Why me? Why?! He cursed over and over again, he wanted to scream and blame the world—his rotten fate.
Instead, he just laughed into his hands. His laugh sounded choked, perhaps he really was going insane.
The masked men's faces were unreadable under their masks, but instead of making some smart remarks over his strange reaction, they just watched him silently. After what felt like forever, the shorter man bent down and collected the pictures he showed Dragon earlier. "There will be a boat tomorrow to pick you up, we expect you to be at the dock at 7 am sharp." At that, they turned around and exited the room without a backward glance.
The room was silent. Everyone was still, their expressions shadowed. Sengoku didn't sigh and look at dad exasperatedly for letting his youngest son loose again; Tsuru didn't shook her head and scold Dragon for his reckless behaviour; And Rowan didn't try to give him a reassuring smile. And dad—he just stared into nowhere, his hands hung loosely at his sides, no attempt of doing his usual 'Fist of Love'.
As the black cloak of enveloping darkness and despair descended upon the room, Dragon's weak laughter was the only sound that accompanied them.
THAT'S IT FOR CHAPTER TWO ^^
Sorry if the Haki thing is very...out there. It's just that I've thought of this possibility for a while now, what if there is someone who posses Conqueror's Haki that is strong enough to drive a man into insanity? Since Conqueror's Haki is all about overpowering others with your strong will.
Anyway, poor Dragon though, being forced into the most secretive organization. I always have this scenario in mind, that he was once in the government, but definitely not the marines, because then everyone will know about him.
SOOOO, tell me what you think! I'm sorry if the writing is so lousy, I'm not a writer or a pro in any way I'm actually really excited in continuing this story :) Part 3 will be up in around 1-2 weeks!
