Chapter 5: Princess Hildegarde
Hilda was sitting on a chair and staring at her reflection on the huge mirror in front of her. Five maids were occupied around her – five bloody maids, who pawed her too much for her taste. A silk gown, fancy shoes, pricey jewels, gold, diamonds sparkling around her neck and wrists, gracing her milky skin gorgeously. She insisted on letting her hairstyle – her bangs to be more precise – its usual way, so they tied half of her long golden hair up. Her loose hair was lightly curled and fell down behind her shoulders whereas her bun was decorated with a single oleander. A faint perfume, a slight makeup – everything about her was just so simple but it emphasized her beauty in an elegant manner at the same time.
She was a splendid woman.
That was what Lamia thought like anyone else, who had a brief glance at Hilda's figure. However, only she could see the truth behind that excellent façade of the Blonde. Her uncovered eye watched her own expressionless face. She didn't show any kind of emotion since the humans arrived in the Demon World. She didn't show any sign of sadness since her beloved Beelzebub would leave soon. She didn't show any kind of anger since her fierce enemy arrived. She didn't show any kind of lust since she would retaliate upon him.
She just became more lifeless than before, if that was even possible.
"Hilda-hime…" Lamia addressed her that way in front of others although she hated it.
Hilda closed her eye for a second without turning her gaze. It was her way to tell Lamia that everything was going to be alright.
"Princess Hildegarde." Another maid showed up and bowed in front of her. "It is about time. The Overlord, the audience and the human visitors are waiting for Lord Enou-sama and your Highness."
"Did you say 'human visitors'?" Lamia jumped up in disbelief.
"Yes. The Great Overlord in person invited them to participate in the ceremony. Our King is especially gracious when it comes to Prince Beelzebub and O-…"
Hilda didn't wait for the maid to finish her sentence and stood up calmly. She shot the servant a brief blank glance and went towards the door.
"E-excuse me, your Highness! P-please forgive me…!" The servant started begging desperately before she kneeled down and shut her eyes tightly.
The other maids backed off immediately. They knew very well that even if the future Queen seemed to be placid at the moment, they would sense her wrath later because the name of that loathsome human was taboo in her presence.
Nevertheless, nobody knew what was actually going on in her mind.
"Long live our next King, Lord Enou-sama, and his wife, Princess Hildegarde!"
Hilda didn't open her eyes for once. She was relying upon her other senses, which were sharp enough to show her the way to her rightful place. Additionally, they were sharp enough to clearly hear the low chattering which started the moment when she entered the hall.
The sound of three toppling chairs stopped the audience from mumbling and all gazes were directed towards the source of it except for Hilda's, whose eyes were still closed.
" 'the hell...?!" Oga muttered rather to himself.
The only two people, who were close enough to understand him, were scandalized to such an extent that they couldn't hear him. Furuichi remembered too well how distressed he had been by wrongly assuming that it was Lamia marrying En. However, seeing the real bride was supposed to be Hilda, his shock increased tenfold. Therefore, he could barely imagine what Oga was going through that minute.
"Is this some kind of a bad joke?!" Oga's voice got a bit louder as he spoke through gritted teeth, so that Furuichi and Kunieda became aware of him. The fury, which boiled inside him and grew more and more by each passing second, was reflected in his keen eyes that were darted on the woman on the throne.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOIN' ON HERE!" Oga screamed full-throated at nobody in particular when he didn't get any reply.
Whether it was due to his piercing yell or something else, the audience didn't know. Shortly after Oga's outburst, an incredible tremor came out of nowhere and shook the hall – the entire palace. It was only for a split second, yet enough to bring the assembly of demons to their knees there. Even Prince En fell back into his seat and looked around himself in bewilderment. The overwhelming impact didn't affect solely two people, which were the Overlord himself and the other occupant to his left.
Hilda budged not a whit. She was sitting next to the King with the same calmness from the very beginning. Although her eyes were still shut, she knew too well who besides the Demon Lord would be able to cause such an enormous atmosphere.
The menacing aura that Oga was emanating didn't escape the other two humans. Furuichi tried his hardest to endure the heavy pressure and managed to reach Kunieda and Baby Beel.
"We need to stop him…!" the silver-haired shouted and took the frightened baby from the female. As he held the baby securely in his arms, he shot a glance at the future princess. "That's why I wanted to leave immediately…!" he said inwardly.
"Leave it to me!" Kunieda stood up in one fell swoop and ran towards Oga.
She struggled hard and fought back the blast that seemed to come from Oga and push away everyone and everything around him. The naked eye couldn't see it but going towards his direction, Kunieda felt the squeeze as if a strong wind was blowing against her.
In the long run, she attained to the person in center. "Oga, cut it out!" she shouted while her arms were protecting her eyes.
The aura didn't vanish. For the bystanders, Oga was just standing there with an annoyed face. They didn't notice that he was the source of the current tremble. He clenched his hands and teeth even more to the point of hurting himself but he didn't seem to feel the pain or ignored it due to his mounting fury.
Kunieda reached for his arm and clutched it with her whole strength. "Please, stop it, Oga." she pleaded with worry in her eyes. "I'm sure there's a reason for all this." Oga didn't react to her words. "… you're scaring Beel-chan..." He slightly twitched to that. "If you don't calm down now, all your efforts so far will be in vain… please…"
The ominous aura cleared away slowly. Oga's eyelids got heavier and heavier until he tardily sunk to his knees. Until everything around him became dark, he never turned away his gaze once from the Blonde and whispered with a last effort. "Answer… me…"
At the very moment, Hilda abruptly stood up. Her eyes were snapped open and locked with the two humans on the ground.
A/N: I was asked to update this one since it ended in a cruel way for Tatsugarde fans last time! I wanted to write a little bit more but considering the length of the chapter, I had to interrupt here…
Next time: the first conversation with Hilda. How will she answer to the humans?
However, you might wait till next year since I'm going to update "A Father, A Lover" first… or finally!
Have a nice day and leave me a review, please. Any requests/critique?!
