Chapter 10: History of Myths
Six years ago
"You're training will now begin. Both your minds and your bodies will be trained to their peak potential. It is a long and harsh road ahead. Do you still wish to travel it?"
Samuel and April MacEntee looked to each other, determination evident in their eyes. They could not go back. They could only move forward. They turned their heads to Silver Tiger;
"Yes Sensai." They shouted out in unison. Silver Tiger nodded slowly, looking at his two new students, seeing the potential in their souls.
"Then we shale begin."
Present day, one-and-half hours after Creatures in the club.
Green Dragon was tired and sore. The fight with the VENOM enhanced Feshner had resulted in huge bruises and possibly a broken rib. He dragged himself through his apartment window. As he began to take off the top part of his costume off, Batwoman entered through the window. Samuel didn't look at her as he went to his kitchen to get his first aid kit. As he left he shouted out;
"You know were the brandy is. Can you get it? We're going to need it." Batwoman took off her mask, wig and cape before going to her cabinet and pulling out the brandy bottle and glasses. She sparred a glance at the photo of April. She found it hard to believe that she could be one of the deadliest people on the planet.
"Samuel you have got some explaining to do." She said to herself. She went to the couch and poured two glasses of brandy. Kate took hers immediately as Samuel returned with the first aid kit. He sat down next to Kate, placing the kit on the coffee table. He then swallowed his glass of Brandy. Silence settled down as Kate helped Samuel patch up his wounds. Once he was fully patched up Kate broke the silence;
"So, your sister is in Gotham and she is one of the deadliest people on the planet." Samuel sipped his second glass of brandy before answering her blankly;
"Yep."
"OK. But why the hell is she here?"
"She must've found a lead on Ra's and his assassins. That's the only reason that she'd be here."
"That doesn't really settle my mind."
"No I guess it doesn't." Kate bit here lip before asking her next question;
"What the hell happened during those six years?" Samuel tensed at the question but he knew he had to answer her.
"At the start she was still pretty shaken up."
Five-and-half years ago
Samuel and April were sparring. Today Silver Tiger was teaching them grappling techniques based around judo. Samuel and April squared off before charging at each other. April struck first with a kick but Samuel easily blocked. He responded with a quick jab which April did not block. She was pushed back and Samuel took the opportunity to grab April and flip her onto her back.
"Match. Samuel." Silver Tiger shouted out after Samuel won. Samuel got up and helped his sister up who muttered an almost silent 'Thank you.' Once both were up Silver Tiger approached the pair.
"Samuel your technique is perfect, though your physical strength needs some work. April you are still holding back. You have great potential but you must push yourself to unlock it."
"Yes sensei." they replied. Silver Tiger nodded before turning away;
"We are finished for today. Go study." He left at this.
The pair then walked to their rooms in silence. Both were still angry, but they could not afford to grieve. They could only prepare. When April reached her room Samuel turned to her;
"Hey are you ok?" April didn't turn round to answer him.
"I'm fine Samuel. I just need to get better." She shut the door after this. Samuel remained in the hallway for a few moments before turning to his own room. The only thing on his mind was vengeance. Vengeance against Ra's al Ghul for doing this to his family.
Four-and-half years ago
April and Samuel were training with a large group of other Ty Lee trainees. They were all training with swords of various kinds. Samuel was using his pair of hook swords while April was training with a one-handed jian. They were in pairs sparing with others. April was training with a raw recruit while Samuel trained with an older trainee called Kada, who he was talking to;
"So with all the training you've got, all you're going to do with it is find and kill Ra's al Ghul?" Kada asked as he slashed his dao sword at Samuel. Samuel blocked and hooked the slash and countered with a slash of his free sword.
"There is nothing else. The purpose of all this is to find him and kill him." Samuel answered as Kada jumped back from the slash.
"I don't know. Making money? That's what I'm going to do. Big money to be made for mercenaries."
"Yeah that's honourable." Samuel said before he launched into a series of slashes and strikes which overwhelmed Kada. He tried to defend but Samuel ended the dual, placing his bladed sword guard over Kada's throat. Samuel smirked as he backed away. Kada scowled as he retrieved his sheath and a water bottle.
"Whatever man. All I know is that I need something bigger. Maybe a guan dao." Their conversation was suddenly ended by scream of pain. Turning to the source they saw April standing over her sparring partner. She had her sword over the young recruit's heart, blood already on it. The recruit was holding his right arm as blood seeped out from a large cut.
"April what the hell are you doing?" Samuel said as he rushed towards his sister. April's rage was evident in her eyes. Nothing else could be seen. Samuel approached and grabbed her shoulder. Immediately April turned and prepared to slash her sword. Before the blade hit Samuel she realised who it was and stopped. This snapped her out of her trance. She looked around the room at the staring faces. She then looked at the wounded trainee. Seeing what she had done, she turned and left, leaving her stunned brother in silence.
"Dude I'd watch out for her." Kada said as he approached Samuel.
Three years ago
In a rare moment Samuel was not training. He was studying. While revenge was the ultimate goal he still needed a life so he kept up his studies. Thanks to the Ty Lee he had a Bachelor of Science degree for biology. He was now studying for a master's degree in genetics. His sister was a genius when it came to mathematics. Though she was only 17, she was at college level. She was planning to make money trading on the stock market, as it was mathematically based.
Subconsciously Samuel rubbed his shoulder. His skin was still healing from the tattoo work he had done. The large Dragon design was taking time but it was what he wanted.
"You should really stop touching that. Might mess it up." April said as she entered the room. She had got her first tattoo last month, a simple flame design on her upper arm, with plans to expand it later on.
"It's a habit." Samuel then switched his study notes on his laptop to a mechanical design of a gauntlet with weapon launchers. "Hey I think I've worked out all the bugs on the gauntlets. Pretty sure they can deploy you're chain whips safely now."
"You had better be sure. I do not want to break my arm again." April rubbed her left arm subconsciously, remembering the break caused by a failed test. She had nearly stabbed Samuel after that.
"I said I was sorry about that. How long are you going to keep that against me?"
"As long as it is still useful to me. Oh by the way the glider units are ready for testing if you are." Samuel looked up at his sister, wondering whether she was getting even.
"They safe?"
"Well the only way to know for sure is to test them. So you ready?"
"Shit. Well might as well get it over with."
Two years ago
Samuel MacEntee was pissed. He had just got back after the worst dinner he had ever had. He stormed to his room, finding his sister on her lap-top.
"I am going to kill Kada." April looked up at her brother, curiosity getting the better of her.
"So how was dinner?" Samuel had got a beer, downed half of it and glared at his sister.
"The bastard fecker brought me to the restaurant, said he'd pay, allowed me to order the most expensive meal on the menu and then left when the bill came." April couldn't help herself and burst out laughing at her brother. She laughed for a good five minutes before she stopped.
"So how the hell did you get out?"
"Had to clean the dishes in the kitchen. And tomorrow night. And the night after until the bill is paid." April again burst into laughter at this for another five minutes.
"You done?"
"Yeah, yeah." Samuel rolled his eyes and moved behind April to get a look at her lap-top screen.
"So what are you working on?" April settled down and returned to her work.
"Just some stuff." Samuel read the items on the lap-top screen. His face darkened when he read it.
"I thought we agreed that we were only going after Ra's." April narrowed her eyes and visibly tensed.
"That was before we fully understood who he was. We have to destroy everything he has."
"Yeah but you're going after Talia and her son first. We don't even know if the son actually exists. It was just a rumour we heard. And it's cruel. I don't want that much blood on my hands." April shot up and glared at her brother.
"How dare you! He killed our family! He deserves fifty times worse."
"When did we lower ourselves to his level?" April broke eye contact to process this. She then took her lap-top and closed it before looking at Samuel again.
"Well how do you plan on getting him?"
"I'm going after the Batman. He's his greatest enemy and he's still alive. He must know something. He can get me Ra's."
"And you're going to dress up in spandex and help him fight crime to get close to him?"
"If that's what it takes then yes. I won't wear spandex though."
"You're an idiot." April turned and left. Samuel called out as she left;
"Just promise me you won't do anything rash. I don't want to lose my sister." He spoke the last part quietly to himself.
One year ago
Samuel and April were kneeling in front of the Ty Lee council. It was over their training was complete. They were ready to begin their goal. The hunt for Ra's al Ghul was going to begin. The leader of the Ty Lee spoke;
"Samuel and April MacEntee. You came here broken and alone. We have trained and prepared you for this. You are now ready to begin your missions." The leader turned his head to Samuel, who raised his.
"Samuel. You are strong, tenacious and theatrical. For these qualities we grant you the title of Dragon." Samuel lowered his head in gratitude. The leader turned his head to April, who raised hers.
"April. You are fierce, fast and fight with an undying fire in your soul. For these qualities we grant you the title of Phoenix." April lowered her head in gratitude. The leader then turned to look at the pair.
"Now rise and state your full titles." Samuel and April rose and spoke;
"I am Samuel MacEntee. I am the Green Dragon."
"I am April MacEntee. I am the Red Phoenix."
The leader nodded before speaking again;
"Now state the missions we have trained you for."
"To hunt and kill Ra's al Ghul." Samuel stated.
"To destroy Ra's al Ghul and his league of assassins." April stated. Samuel shifted his eyes to April, worried about her statement. The leader spoke once again.
"Then go now. Our role has finished. Your destiny is now in your hands." Samuel and April bowed before turning and leaving. The pair walked to their rooms to collect their belongings and leave, April walking in front of her brother, ignoring his questions.
"What the hell did you by destroying Ra's and the league? I thought we agreed to only go after Ra's?"
"You did. Not me." April replied as she collected her things and strapped her sword to her back.
"April please don't do this. I don't want to lose you as well."
"I'm sorry, but I can't stop at him. If we take him out someone else will just rise up to replace him. I won't let that happen." Samuel squared up.
"I won't let you do that. Ra's will destroy you. I can't allow that." April face grew dark as a lone tear slid down her face.
"Forgive me Samuel." Using her incredible speed she kicked Samuel against a wall before pinning him to it with a hand to his throat and her sword pointed to his heart. "But I can't let you do that. You are not going to stop me and if you try I will go through you. Do you understand that?" Samuel looked at April, feeling his heart break at what he had let happen to his sister.
"I made that sword for you."
"I know." April then struck Samuel's neck, knocking him out.
Present day
"When I came to April was gone. That was the last time I saw her." Kate had listened intently to Samuel's story. She now understood his fear. He had allowed his sister to go down a dark path. He hated himself for that.
"So she's here for Ra's grandson?"
"She must be. It was her first target, only thing is I have no idea who he is or were he is."
"She must have got a lead."
"Must have. We got to find him. I can't let her kill an innocent kid."
"I'll look into it. If we run into her, do you think we can beat her?"
"No. She is stronger than me and she knows it. And she is one of the greatest sword fighters in the world. It's near impossible to fight and win against her with a sword."
"Shit."
"Yeah." Kate and Samuel looked at their now empty glasses. They had no idea what to do now. Samuel spoke up.
"I'll try to find her. Maybe I can talk her out of it. I just hope she doesn't go against Batman. Then I don't think I can save her from him."
"I guess it's all we can do."
"I'm sorry for bringing this down on Gotham."
"Hey this is pretty normal. It's what I call a normal Friday night." Samuel couldn't help but laugh at this.
"Hell this city is weird."
"Your damn right."
Next Chapter: Phoenix rising
A/N If you couldn't guess this is pretty much a chapter to show the history of Green Dragon and Red Phoenix as well as other little points in the story. Hope you enjoyed it.
