Chapter 11: Phoenix rising

Eight months since first night

April MacEntee was sitting in her safe house. It was a run-down apartment in the narrows of Gotham. A month ago it belonged to a drug dealer who liked dealing to kids. He was now spending his days wrapped in a tarp in the Gotham River. April found no problem with this arrangement.

Setting her earl grey tea down, April returned to her computer. On the screen was the latest stock prices of her investments, all of which was returning her investment with a quite large amount of interest. Smiling she began selling the ones which had the largest returns, before purchasing more.

Through her investments she now had a small fortune which was growing every day, much greater than her brother even if he was working at one of the most profitable companies in the world.

Speaking of her brother she shut down her stock trading program and opened up the police scanner program. Looking over all the recent call-ins she searched for any mention of Green Dragon or Batwoman, knowing that he had struck a partnership with the vigilante.

It was a few minutes before she found them. They were reported to be taking out a group of bank robbers on the east side. Knowing that they would stay in that area for the rest of the night she shut down her lap-top and moved to her case. Unlocking it she pulled out her armour and began putting it on, ready to head out into the night.

30 minutes later

After a long harsh fight the last robber was in cuffs and being led into the back of a police cruiser. Batwoman and Green Dragon were on a roof observing the arrests. After such a large fight they both wanted to see the crooks bungled up into the cruisers. Satisfied with the results the pair were just about to set off before a female voice spoke up in their ears.

"This is the cave looking for Batwoman. You there?" The pair stopped suddenly at the voice, Batwoman answering it:

"What do need Penny-two?"

"We have reports of strange lights and weird electrical discharges downtown. Sounds like magic and that's your speciality."

"Thanks cave me and Green Dragon will check it out."

"OK good luck both of you." The com went dead before she softly spoke again in Dagon's ear.

"Especially you Irish." Dragon was thankful for his full face mask as he couldn't hide his smirk or the blush crawling up his face. The pair ran and jumped off their roof, heading towards the disruption.

Watching silently Red Phoenix followed behind, quietly observing her brother.

30 minutes later

The duo arrived to the sight of five men in an alley surrounded by a golden aura with electrical energy arcing off of their bodies. Each man stood on one point of the pentagram, chanting some sort of spell. Batwoman couldn't help but sigh and shake her head at the sight.

"I swear Friday night just brings out the crazies." Green Dragon answered her blankly;

"No shit." Choosing not imagine what they were casting the pair jumped into action. Green Dragon threw a bunch of his flash bang shurikens into the centre of the pentagram, blinding the group and effectively stopping the spell. Batwoman jumped into the centre of the men and began brawling. The leader shouted out;

"No! We must complete the summoning. The Demon must ri…."

"Get over here!" A weighted cable suddenly wrapped around the leader and pulled him towards Green Dragon who put him down with left hook to the face. Batwoman couldn't help but roll her eyes at Green Dragons attack, just as she dodged an energy blast from one of the cultists.

"Do you have to say that every time you do that move?"

"Course I do, its badass." Green Dragon answered as he swung a mars hammer into one of the cultist's gut, before firing a kick to knock him out. As he did this he spotted one of the cultists make a run for it out of the alley.

"Hey one guys running. I'm going after him. You got this?"

"Yeah I'm good." Batwoman replied. Nodding Green Dragon grappled away before opening up his glider. He spotted the runner quickly and prepared to tackle him before he turned round and fired an energy blast into Dragons chest.

The blast knocked the wind out of Dragon and he immediately fell to the ground. He groaned and lifted his head to see the cultist look at him with shock.

"That blast was meant to stop your heart, what the fuck?" Groaning as he stood, Green Dragon answered him;

"Yeah I'm special that way, but don't worry it hurt like hell." Green Dragon was about to attack before a girl opened a door to the building beside the cultist. The cultist looked straight at the girl before smirking and grabbing her, placing a knife to her throat. Green Dragon could not react in time as the cultist now had a hostage.

"Now unless you want to see the inside of this girl's throat you'll do exactly as I say." Green Dragon was still tensed and in a fighting position as he answered;

"That's not gonna happen."

"Yeah right. You're in no position to talk freak." The girl whimpered as the knife pressed further down on her throat.

"What about me?" The new voice was followed by a scream of pain from the cultist as a kunai knife embedded itself in his shoulder. The girl was released and immediately ran back through the door she came from.

The cultist turned around just in time to see Red Phoenix fly at him with a chain whip. She used it to sweep his legs from under him, breaking them in the process. Once on the ground a hard punch to the face knocked him out.

Green Dragon could only look at her as she returned the chain whip into her gauntlet.

She turned her head to look at her brother.

"You're welcome."

"What the hell are you doing here?"

"Same as you, just using a different method."

"You gonna tell me about it?" Red Phoenix spotted Batwoman approaching the pair and drew her grapple gun.

"When were not as crowded." Her grapple gun shot out and found footing, pulling her into the dark Gotham night. Batwoman approached Green Dragon and the unconscious cultist.

"Fourth time she's helped us but first time she's actually talked to you. Any idea on what she wants?"

"None but I think she's going to tell me soon."

"Hope so. This is getting ridiculous."

The next day

Samuel MacEntee was sitting at a table outside his favourite coffee shop. Last night was a pain as he felt nearly all his muscles tingle and tense. The bitter coffee was doing little to help his headache. His focus was barely on the latest lab results he had to read over. Sipping the coffee his train of thought was broken by a familiar female voice in front of him;

"Is this seat taken?" Standing in front of him was April MacEntee, dressed in a smart black suit. Samuel raised his head to look at his sister.

"April."

"Samuel." April sat down, ordered a tea and looked to her brother.

"Let's talk."
