Chapter 15: To the victor, the spoils.
Samuel looked down to his stomach. The tip of April's sword was sitting two inches inside his gut. He instantly dropped his own swords. He had lost, but he couldn't help but let out a sore chuckle;
"Heh, you're losing your touch." He spoke weakly, pain dripping of every word. April let out a soft snort as she answered;
"I may be cold but I'm not someone who would kill her only brother. I'm not a monster."
"Yeah you're happy with only severely stabbing your brother so that you can win an argument."
"Yeah pretty much." April deadpanned. Samuel chuckled again before letting out a painful groan, as he moved around the blade.
"So you won't kill family? I wish mine was like that." April and Samuel spun their heads in the direction of the new voice. Standing three metres away from them, battle ready, was Robin. April was truly shocked as her mouth gaped open;
"How did you?" She asked but Robin let out a 'tt'.
"I'm the son of Batman, I can get out of nearly every trap imaginable. Rope is nothing."
"Huh. I'm not really ready to fight you right now, so?"
"Then you can listen." Robin said, sending a glare at the pair. "All you really care about is killing Ra's al Ghul because he killed your family. You're even willing to kidnap his grandson in an attempt to get to him. But he doesn't give a damn about me. Hell he even let my own mother grow a clone of me and have it kill me." Samuel and April were shocked at hearing this.
"She what?" April asked but Robin silenced her with a hand raise.
"My mother Talia, decided that I was no longer worthy to be her son. So she disowned me, put a $500,000,000 price on my head, grew a clone replacement of me and had it kill me. And my grandfather did nothing to stop her. So that shows how much love that side of my family has for me. And before you ask how I'm alive, my father literally went to hell and back to get me back."
"Do you have any idea were Ra's is?" April asked after a while of processing this new information.
"If I knew I would tell you. You two deserve closure." After a few tense minutes, April looked at her brother. Blood could be seen running down her sword and hitting the hilt. She locked eyes with Samuel;
"I still won. And you know what I want." She said with an edge. Samuel sighed before answering;
"It's yours." April nodded. Quickly she cleanly whipped the sword out of her brother's gut. Samuel collapsed to the ground, holding his stomach tightly. While wiping her sword clean she turned to face Robin.
"My apologies for kidnapping you Robin. Please extend those to your father. I hope we meet again under better circumstances." April then sheathed her sword and began walking to the edge, picking up her mask and balaclava on the way.
"The next time I see you I will best you in a duel." Robin replied, venom dripping from every word. April smirked at the edge of the roof before pulling on her mask.
"I look forward to it. Till next time Samuel." Samuel groaned out a response. Red Phoenix then turned and leapt off, gliding away into the night.
Robin watched her go before turning and approaching Samuel, his scowl never changing.
"Your rescue attempt was pathetic Dragon." Robin said as he kneeled down next to Samuel and set about field-dressing the stab-wounds.
"You're welcome brat." Robin shook his head and went back to the wounds, a silence settling down between the two.
Four months later
Soft music was playing as the newly-weds had their first official dance. Kate and Maggie were both in white tuxedoes, dancing slowly to the romantic music filling the hall, smiling faces surrounding the pair.
Samuel was one of those faces, wearing a smile that was on his face since the wedding started. Beside him was Penny-two, or as he now knew her, Julia Pennyworth, wearing a beautiful black dress. Her smile was identical to his.
Movement caught his eye and he turned to see Bruce Wayne walking towards the pair, with his son Damian following close by, his attention on his phone. Julia looked to Bruce and greeted him;
"Bruce nice to see you."
"Nice to see you too Julia." Samuel was stunned for a second before Bruce locked eyes with him and raised his hand for a shake.
"And you must be Samuel. Julia's talked a lot about you." Samuel shook Bruce's hand in greeting and replied.
"Yes I am sir." Bruce raised his eyebrow at his answer.
"Sir?"
"Well you are technically my boss Mister Wayne. I work in Wayne Industries Bio department."
"Ah. I recognise you now. I've heard great things about you're work."
"Thank-you Mister Wayne but I am glad to get tomorrow off."
"You and I both." Bruce said, flashing his million dollar smile. The music then changed and couples began to walk onto the dance floor. Julia hooked arms with Samuel.
"Sorry Bruce but I need to steal Samuel for a minute. Seems it's time for couples."
"Of course. Go have fun." Julia nodded and led Samuel to the dancefloor, settling into a nice rhythm once they arrived. They looked at each other and smiled, happy to have each other's company.
"So are you OK to dance?" Julia asked after a few minutes of gliding around the floor.
"Well I do seem to be dancing so I believe I am OK." Samuel answered with a smirk.
"Good. How about the other thing? You OK to do that?" Julia asked with a smirk of her own.
"I don't know. What thing are you talking about?" Samuel asked as he leaned in.
"Well it's a thing which you do with parts of your anatomy." She shot back, while leaning in as well.
"Oh I know now. Is this part of the thing?" Samuel closed the gap and captured Julia's lips with his own. The kiss was slow and tender, both parties enjoying the moment they had. When they broke, they were both smiling. Julia broke the silence.
"Yeah that's definitely part of the thing." Both let out a small chuckle, which stopped when a throat cleared near them. Looking around they saw Kate standing near them.
"I hate to break a tender moment but I was hoping to get a dance with Samuel."
"Oh of course. I better go find my dad. Get him into a dance." Julia answered. Before leaving she pecked a small kiss on Samuel's cheek, promising him that she would be back. Kate and Samuel then stepped into a dance. Beside them Maggie was dancing with her daughter Jamie, who was the flower girl. After five minutes Samuel broke the silence;
"So, how are you feeling?" Kate snorted before answering;
"I just got married to the woman of my dreams. I couldn't be happier."
"Well, love wins in the end."
"Damn right."
The next night
"So are you sure you can handle yourself?" Kate asked over the phone. Green Dragon was standing on the roof of his building, his mask pushed up to show his face so he could talk on the phone.
"Kate you are on your honeymoon. You should not be worrying about me."
"I know but you just started back on patrol a week ago. I'm just worried that you might get in over your head."
"Kate I am fine. The doctor gave me the all clear a month ago and I've been spending that month training and helping you prepare for your wedding. I'm good and you deserve to enjoy yourself after turning into a freaking bridezilla during the last few weeks."
"I was not a bridezilla!"
"Yes you were. Now go enjoy yourself. That's an order."
"Alright I wiiiiii…" Kate went quiet for a few seconds.
"Maggie just walk in?"
"Yeeeaaah." Kate drawled as a response.
"OK I'm going to hang up now. Semper fi."
"Oorah." Samuel hung up. Pulling his mask down, he prepared to leap away into the night when the sound of a pair of boots landing behind him alerted him to another presence. Turning quickly, he was surprised to see the Dark Knight himself standing before him. Lowering his stance he approached him.
"Hey." He said to the permanently scowling man. He didn't reply, instead he held out a flash drive towards him. Green Dragon took it. "What's this?" He said while looking at it.
"Everything I have on Ra's, including possible locations." Green Dragon snapped his head up to look at Batman, who didn't change a feature. Green Dragon looked at the drive once more before, pocketing it. He looked at Batman again.
"Thanks."
"Officially, I'm condoning your actions. But it's not my place to stop you."
"No it's not. I'm sorry about my sister, but I think she got her common sense back."
"Let's hope so." Green Dragon turned to look out over Gotham.
"You know, I think I'm starting to like this city. It's got a certain character to it when you get rid of all the crime and dystopia." Green Dragon heard no reply. "Batman?" Green Dragon turned round but Batman was gone. "Well that's annoying."
He turned back towards Gotham. After a few moments of contemplation he shot forward and leapt off the building. Once clear, he opened the glider unit and flew off into the sky.
The Green Dragon was on the hunt tonight.
