Chapter 12
The Survey Corps rode back to the walls with a major sense of urgency. Everyone was tense and sweat ran their face from both the heat and their own nervousness. I had prayed that this was all just one big sick joke and not reality. I couldn't bring myself to believe this yet I knew denying the fact wouldn't solve the problem. The titans had breached Wall Rose.
Earlier that day
The sound of a flare launching brought my attention to the sky. I narrowed my eyes and stared up at the flare that was released. A blue flare. A signal to retreat.
"What?" I asked myself, "Why would he release an order like that?!"
A loud bird screech echoed behind me. I turned my head and saw Elli flying over to me. I raised the cloth on my eye and made eye contact with her.
"Elli, why has the commander ordered us to retreat?!" I demanded.
"The Trost District has been invaded!" she cried.
I went wide eyed with shock. Another breach would lead to disaster. Humanity wasn't ready to loose another section of their walls.
"Signal all slayers to report to their human. We move out now!" I ordered.
All the titan's that we passed were heading to the direction of the walls. The closer we got the walls the more there were. The gaping hole finally became visible. The entire gate was busted down. Titans strolled inside in a long, messy line. My heartbeat quickened. TheSlayer HQ was located nearby. A flare shot up into the sky from Erwin, an orange flare. It was the signal for the slayers to take action. I kicked my horse to get it to run faster up to Slane and Ace.
"Slane, you snipe out those titans coming in! Ace and I will take them out!" I ordered.
"Alright! It's finally time to bash some heads in!" Ace exclaimed with a grin on his face.
"Ace, this is our home! Please take this more seriously!" Slane scolded.
"You underestimate me!" Ace stated proudly.
He flicked his reins and his horse ran forward quickly. I joined up at his side while Slane stayed behind, aiming his rifle. He fired a shot, causing one titan to stumble and fall on top of another. Ace jumped off his horse and leaped, punching the two titan's skulls in. Another shot went off. A titan started to fall forward. I leaped off my horse and used the force of my jump to reach its shoulders and slash its nape. I quickly turned my head and saw two titans start to pin me down. Ace came out of nowhere and punched one hard in the back of its head. I ran in between the other one' legs and slashed its ankles, forcing it down.
"June!" Ace cried.
I looked back at him and he was starting to do a runner's pose. I nodded my head and put my hands together to give him a boost. He ran towards me and jumped, placing on foot on my hand. I pushed up and sent him flying to the downed titan. He came falling down.
"TAKE A LOAD OF THIS! WOOHOO!" Ace came crashing down on the titan's head and smashed its head.
The rest of the titans had already went inside the gates, the Survey Corps following them right behind.
"Come on! Let's go and help clear out the city!" I cried. I started to charge into the city with Ace, Slane riding behind us on Ren. Our entrance inside the city was blood. There were limbs lying on the ground as well as other bodies of soldiers. Burning corpses of titans layed on top of buildings and the streets. The screaming of the soldiers were heavy with fear. The site of the city was grim... Just like that day...
A loud roar shook the city. It sounded like a titan except filled with more blood lust and anger. It was nothing I had ever heard before from a titan. I looked up where the roar came from and saw a Titan with green eyes. He carried a large boulder on his shoulders and several soldiers hovered around him. The Titans all seemed drawn to him as they lumbered in his direction, being sliced down by a soldier.
"What is that?!" I cried.
"Is that an abberant?" Ace asked.
"It's not like anything I've ever seen," Slane commented.
I glanced around at the soldiers there. None of them seemed to be doing anything to take it down. Instead, they were doing everything in their power to protect it. Was it being controlled by them?
I noticed multiple titans walk straight past us and approach the titan's ankles. Two soldiers who tried to stop their advance got caught in their grasps. They screamed out in horror, kicking their legs violently. A roar sounded through the sky as Alexander, the lizard slayer, dived down from the sky and used his claws to pierce ones eyes. The rabbit slayer, Charlotte, jumped up to the other titan's nape and sliced it off with her like scythe-like claws. More titans started coming into the city and I knew it wouldn't be long before we became too overwhelmed. However, I remembered another force we could use to dispose of the titans.
"Slane, Ace, I'll be back! You two help the humans protect that titan!" I glanced at Slane, "I'll need to borrow Ren."
Slane nodded and dismounted, "Careful, he hates being kicked and having his reigns tightened."
Ren glared at Slane, "Yet you constantly do it anyways."
I mounted Ren and lifted the cloth on my eye, "C'mon! We need to head to the Slayer HQ!"
"Slayer HQ?! Why there?! The fight is here!" he demanded.
"Just trust me!" I snapped.
"I hope you know what you're doing," he grumbled.
He started to gallop off to the HQ, quicker than any horse could run. We ran through the streets in minutes. I sniffed the air and smelled the stench of titan nearby. I drew my pistol and right as Ren turned the corner, there it was. It was expecting us and prepared to pounce on us. Right before it had the chance however I shot its forehead, stunning it for a long time. The slatanium bullet kept it frozen. Ren ran around it and we shortly arrived at the HQ. I ran inside the HQ to find everyone hidden away in all sorts of darker areas. However, upon seeing me, they immediately came out of their hiding spots.
"Alpha June!"
I cut straight to the point, "I need some Junior Slayers who are strong enough to fight to join me on the battlefield."
Immediately, Juju came up to my feet and nodded his head determinedly, "You can count me in, Alpha!"
I bent down to make eye contact with him, "Are you sure about this?"
He nodded and grinned proudly, "This should make for great training! I bet I'll take out more of them than my sister and brother. Will that convince you to let me join you?"
I ruffled his hair, "We'll see."
Another boy approached me. He was around fifteen years old with dark brown hair that was cut to cover his left eye. His name was Roy; his shift animal was the black widow.
"Roy, are you volunteering?" I asked him.
He nodded his head, "I don't want to sit around and do nothing."
I smiled, "I like your attitude. Anyone else?"
Everyone else remained quiet. I analyzed my two volunteers. It would be enough for now.
"Alright lets go! You will take orders from me. Take out any titans that have invaded the city," I ordered.
They nodded their heads and ran out. Juju shifted to his half-finished robin form. There were wings on his arched back and his arms were normal human arms and his legs the ones of a robin. His face had a beak however still not shifted fully. Roy also shifted to his near full finished spider form. His bottom half was clearly a spider, however his upper human body was still sticking out of the spider's head. I hoped for the human's sake that they not see them. They went off in their separate ways and I mounted Ren again.
"You're calling on the Junior Slayers?!" Ren exclaimed, "They'll get themselves killed!"
"Don't worry. I have great faith in Roy and Juju. They are my two most determined juniors," I replied.
"If you're sure about this..."
Ren started to gallop back to the scene where Slane and Ace were. A saw a green flare go off in that area. The people on the walls started cheering loudly in joy. Whatever plan they had actually worked. I saw Mira in her human form standing on top of a building, staring off with wide eyes. I pulled Slane by the building and jumped up to the building.
"Mira, what's going on?" I asked her.
Her eyes went wider, still focused on what she was looking at and pointed in the direction, "June, you need to see this."
I followed the direction her finger pointed and went into a huge shock. Their sat the decomposing remains of the abberant that carried the boulder. A blonde hair boy sat on top of its nape, trying to pull out another boy who was attached to its nape. His body was fused with the titan's body.
"What... is this?" I asked.
I recognized the boy's smell. The same from several months ago, the same one from today. This was the titan boy.
