Wow...time really can just get away from you when you don't realise it haha

I'm so sorry for such a late update! Just after I posted this, I started my 'new' job and it just kept me very busy (still does haha) as well other things, but I haven't forgotten about this story at all, in fact I have been writing on & off over the last few months & finally got round to typing a chapter up.

Also, this story may seem at first that it's just each episode with added scenes but that's not where this story is going, I'm not a huge fan when people do that but for the sake of the story line, I need to follow some of the episodes for now (of course, some scenes/dialogue will be edited) until I break away from it completely and carry on with my own story/ending.

Thank you for the reviews follows & favourites I've had so far over the months, it really does motivate me to update quicker, so this is for you guys who have been waiting

Disclaimer: I don't own Death Note in anyway.

Chapter 1

27th December, 2006.

Light Yagami had just finished getting ready for the day he had been waiting for all week.

Once he'd realised that he had someone following him, he knew it was time to take action. After staging a bus jacking & getting rid of a petty criminal in the process, he learned that it was FBI agent Raye Penber tailing him everywhere he went.

As Light took one last look in his mirror, Ryuk, who was currently lounging on his bed, spoke up.

"So...we're going to the train station?...that place is crawling with humans, how do you expect to do it there?"

Light looked over with a small smirk. "Let's just say that all my little experiments over the last few days will be nothing compared to the grand finale I have planned for today."

"Experiments?"

"Yeah, I've been using known criminals around the area of the station to test out different killing methods...I've learned a lot about the death note. For example, if I write a cause of death and the circumstances leading up to it, I can add a name afterwards and it will still happen."

Ryuk froze. "...Even I didn't know that one."

"And you call yourself a shinigami?!"

Light turned round when he heard a strange deep voice followed by a cackling laughter.

"Who's there?! Show yourself!"

"As you wish..."

Across from Light a dark figure of a boy, not much older than him, appeared and a small smirk tugged on his lips.

"Hello Light Yagami"

Light couldn't believe his eyes.

The stranger was wearing baggy blue jeans with a black long sleeved top, and had pale white skin with a full head of messy black hair. He would have looked almost normal, if it wasn't for his big black wings and piercing red eyes.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?"

The boy raised a hand to his chest as if he was wounded and acted as if he was shocked.

"Well...now I am offended...you don't even remember your victims. Are these really the standards now days? My, my, they have dropped."

Light then took a good look at his face. "Victim? Wha..." And then it hit him.

"You're Beyond Birthday!"

BB let out a chuckle "Very good, although I prefer just B...or BB if you'd like."

"You're not human." Light stated it as a fact.

"No not anymore. I am a shinigami, just like your new friend over there."

Ryuk let out a small laugh as Light took a few glances between them.

"Why do you look so different, so human? I thought all shinigami's would look more like you." Light aimed that last question to Ryuk.

"No shinigami looks the same; however we are somewhat similar in size and shape. I'd never heard of a mixed breed before."

BB laughed. "That's because I'm not a mixed breed, but simply a rare one. I had not known until I met Ryuk that I, as a human, was born with the shinigami eyes. Growing up I could always see when people were going to die, I thought I was cursed."

He shuffled over to the chair at the desk and moved himself into a crouching potion with his hands resting on his knees.

"It turns out that for some higher reason, I was brought back from the dead. Why I do not know but do not mistake me for being human in anyway."

The sound of Ryuk eating an apple could be heard as he spoke with a big mouthful.

"Nobody in our realm can explain exactly what's happened, nothing like this has ever been known but it's a common theory that if a human was born with a piece of our power, it only makes sense that this person could not be truly killed in a mortal way."

Light folded his arms and nodded as he took in all this new information.

"Well...B, I'll ask you again, what are you doing here?"

"Simple...it's because I'm bored."

BB moved his eyes over to Ryuk who watching him in amusement.

"The shinigami realm is so boring. There's nothing to do, there's nostrawberry jam...and for reasons I do not know, I simply can't stay away from you forever because...I'm attached to you."

"What do you mean 'attached to me'?"

"I do not own a death note myself but I am however drawn to you through yours as it is the one that killed my human self, no matter where I go, I will always feel the pull towards that book...got any strawberry jam?"

Light stared at the older boy.

"What?"

"Strawberry jam, do you have any? It's been so long since I've had a jar..."

BB started looking around the room while Light continued to stare at him.

"Great, not only do I have to put up with Ryuk and his obsession with apples. Now I get an even stranger guy who craves strawberry jam...what is it with shinigami's?"

Light came back out of his thoughts, to find B's face inches from his own which caused him to jump back.

"Well?"

"I'll look later...so what now then? You just follow me around all the time like Ryuk?"

B held a bored expression as he slowly moved around, picking up objects using only his thumb and finger, giving them a once over before setting them back down.

"Not all the time...unlike Ryuk, I don't need to be here 24/7 as it's not my death note. There will be times you won't see me for a while and then I'll just appear again. However I can always see what you are doing if I wish it. I've already been watching you over the last few days...I know you've plan to kill Raye Penber."

"Yeah, what about it?"

"Nothing, just making an observation. It makes no difference to me who you kill, by all means, do as you please."

Light let out a low chuckle. "Oh of course, I wouldn't expect an ex murderer to be bothered by me killing other criminals."

"Quite the opposite actually, I'm very interested in how you will continue to use to power of the death note. I have a feeling it's going to be very...entertaining."

The slow smirk that followed that sentence did not go unnoticed by Light.

2 hours later.

BB stood unseen on the train watching the scene unfold before him.

Light had approached Raye Penber and proved his true identity as the infamous Kira & had the FBI agent exactly where he wanted him; sat on the train, writing out the names of all the other agents in Japan on scrap pieces of the death note.

He had to admit that this kid was good.

"Good. Looks like you're done. Now put the transceiver and all the papers back into the envelope and place it on the rack directly above your head. After that you're going to stay in your seat and ride the train for another 30 minutes. When you are absolutely certain that no one will notice you leaving without the envelope, you can get off the train."

BB watched Raye Penber throughout the next half an hour, giggling occasionally at his pathetic attempts to subtly look for 'Kira' around him.

However, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something about this guy that he should know and remember...but what? Had he had run ins with him back in the states during his criminal days?

No that wasn't it...whatever it was, it was unimportant now.

The train started to come to a stop and Raye stood up to leave, his face certainly betraying his emotions of frustration and fear. He didn't get far before his whole body froze.

Beyond bit his bottom lip as he smiled and felt a familiar sensation in his chest, he'd forgotten what fun it was to watch someone die.

Raye Penber collapsed to the floor clutching his chest where his heart was failing him. Gasping in pain, he turned back round to see Light stood in the doorway staring down at him.

"Light...Yagami..."

"Goodbye, Raye Penber."

The doors started to close as Raye let out another pained moan and his eyes shut for the last time.

Light, still smirking over his victory, never noticed a quick subtle change in BB.

The young shinigami sucked in a breath and balled his fists up as he felt a sudden surge of strength run through his body, not a huge amount but enough that he certainly felt it. He held in another cackling laugh that overcame him as he knew what this meant.

B's theory was correct.

Every life taken by the death note is making him stronger, he truly was connected to it. Being in human world was very draining on his body, but now he knew that it wasn't going to be a problem.

"Stupid kid, he thinks he's some kind of God righting the world and ridding it of all evil. HA!"

BB's wings fluttered in excitement as he sat in his crouched position opposite the seat Light was now occupying. He caught the young boy's eye and smiled.

"He has no idea what's in store for him."

Finally finished lol this took me a good few hours to do but I'm pretty happy with it. Sorry if some bits seem a bit rushed, I'm still rusty when it comes to writing haha

Now imp hoping the next chapter will be up asap and I promise not to keep you all waiting like last time!
