A/N: Hi everyone! I'm happy to present a chapter today! Yay! lol. Anyways, you're going to find out that this chapter may seem to end somewhat abruptly, but that's because I have the rest of it written already. I just didn't want to overload people, so I broke it into two. How about a deal? At least two-five new reviews for this chapter, and I'll post the second part of this chapter! Trust me. I think the next part is more interesting than this one. Anyways, I hope you enjoy! Oh, and thank you to all who have favorited, followed, and reviewed so far! It really makes me happy and inspires me to keep writing!
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Hunter X Hunter.
Killua: No sassy conversations today, Ms. Author?
Me: No. I'm tired. It's 2:30 am and I didn't sleep a whole lot last night either. So shuddap.
Killua: Sucks for you! *dodges flying shoe*
I bolted up from my sleep, but didn't get very far because I bonked my head on something hard. "ITAI!" someone else voiced my thought. Rubbing my now sore forehead, I cracked my eyes open. Killua pressed the heel of his hand to his forehead. He glared at me. I stared back. "What the heck was that for!?" he cried indignantly. A tick appeared on my forehead. I pointed accusingly at him, then made a shoving motion with both of my arms.
You should've stayed back further! I crossed my arms and pouted. He growled, and hissed, "Don't ever do that to me again! You hear?" I was about to smack him! That uncourteous –"Scared the shits outta me." I froze. Did Killlua just say something? It was so quiet I almost didn't catch it. But nonetheless, he had mumbled it under his breath. My expression softened and I rolled onto my hands and knees to reach out and pet his snow white hair. Killua didn't raise his side-turned head, but I could tell from the crease of his cheek –and indication of a smile- that he understood. It's ok. I'm sorry for scaring you.
We were interrupted by a not-so-quiet cough, and we looked up. "This is so touching," Illumi commented in his usual emotionless voice. Killua and I both sent daggers at him. Now that I was fully awake, I looked around and noticed that we were still in the lobby of the Greek-styled hotel. Suddenly, I remembered the dream (?) I had, and all urgency came crashing down on me. I had to tell the others before I forgot! After all, dreams sometimes vanish within a few minutes of waking up.
I whipped my head around, eyes scanning and searching for something. I shot up from where I had been placed on a lobby couch, and ran to the reception desk. "Shizuka!" Killua called after me. Other guests shouted at me, some cursing, but I ignored them. Soon as I reach the counter, I started pounding on the marble surface. People probably thought I was either insane, or really needed to use the bathroom.
"Miss! Will you please stop that! You are disturbing the rest of the guests!" one of the ladies attending the desk asked. But it was more of an order. I shook my head and although the force behind my pounding lessened, I didn't stop. Finally, an old looking man, slightly portly, came out and demanded to know what the ruckus was about. I lit up immediately. By now Killua was at my side and asking what was wrong. Ignoring him, I pointed to the man.
"Oh! Young miss! What is it? What do you need?" the man asked when he spotted me. I pretending that I was scribbling on something. I noticed the realization in Killua's expression. "Oi! Get her a pen and paper." I nodded happily at him, but he just turned his head and humphed. I giggled a little. Same old Killua.
I really needed to catch that man's name when he came back. When Killua had plainly stated what I was asking for, he had gone into the back to get the requested (though in Killua's words, demanded) items, and I had let out an inaudible sigh of relief. Now that that issue was solved, I resolved myself to thinking back to the dream. I tried to remember as much as I could about the already fading scene.
The man, Gilbert, as his nameplate read, came back about a minute later and handed me a pad of paper and a pen. I thanked him with a smile, and he returned it with a nod.
Killua and I walked back to our little claimed area of couches on the red carpeted floor where Illumi and Hisoka had remained waiting. I sat down and began to write out everything I could remember. I'm not sure why, but I felt like this dream might somehow be connected to me finding my mom. Or at least help me in doing so. I wrote down the scenery of the one hill I saw, the creature running down it and laughing; and the last thing the woman had whispered to me. 'For now, remember this: You are 'dangerous'.
My pen lingered over the last sentence. 'You are dangerous.' What the heck did that mean? What could that mean? I was dangerous? Well, I guess I could understand to some extent… but as of right now, I can't even speak! Could it mean that I'm dangerous to the people around me? That I'm dangerous to those I care about? Then again, that would only include a very small number of people. I could count them on my finger. *notice the singular use* -_-(). Urgh! So annoying!
A tap on my shoulder brought me back to reality, and I looked up into azure eyes demanding to know what I was thinking. "You're making weird faces and it's creeping me out." I gave him a pointed look. Gee. Thanks. "So, what are you thinking?"
I pointed to the last sentence with the end of the pen, underlining "Remember, you are" and then circling " 'dangerous'". I tapped the last word a few times and drew a question mark next to it. Three other pairs of eyes looked over my shoulder to read what I had done. Hisoka continued to stare at it, Illumi stood back up straight and rested his elbow on his other arm while resting his finger at the bottom of his lip, and Killua's brows furrowed in concentration.
"You think this is special?" he asked me. I nodded my head, then wrote, "The lady seemed to put emphasis on that word. I'm wondering if it's a clue." Killua nodded. He bit his lower lip as he thought. "You think it has to do with your powers as a siren?" I shrugged. "Maybe." Silence followed afterwards as everyone was deep in thought.
I began to zone out, partly because I was bored and partly because I honestly had no clue. I began to doodle mindlessly, not even paying attention to what I was doing. It was a habit that I had picked up on the streets. After all, there was nothing better to do.
I drew a few lines here, a few lines there. Connected them with yet another line. I was starting to run out of room to doodle when Killua suddenly shouted, "Wait!" Everyone jolted and turned to look at the wide-eyed white haired boy. I gave him a slightly annoyed look for pulling me out of my mindless, peaceful state, but he ignored it and pointed to something on the paper.
"Don't those lines look like characters?" I gave him an are-you-a-moron look. He just rapped his knuckles on my head. "No, baka. Not TV show characters, I mean Japanese characters." He gave me an exhasperated look. My mouth opened in an O shape. Ahhh. Gotcha. Rolling his eyes, he turned back to look back to the paper. Now that he pointed it out, they really did look like words. How Killua was able to see those tiny lines amongst the thousand other lines and swirls and flowers, I would never know.
The first one looking like the character for "ki". Quickly erasing some of the doodles I had done, I made some room to take note of the characters, putting "ki" down as the first.
"The second one looks like 'wa'," Illumi added. I wrote that down next to "ki".
"The third is 'do'," contributed Hisoka.
I added the last character, which was "i".
All together, it spelt "kiwadoi." I stared at it for a while. Huh? I smacked my hands on the table and stood up suddenly, surprising everyone else. I pointed to the word, my triumphant face saying, 'I know this!' Sitting back down quickly, I erased the lowercase "k" for an uppercase "K". I think I circled that word so hard I almost tore right through the paper.
"Did u figure it out, Siren?" asked Illumi. He casually dodged the knife aimed at his head. Ignoring him, I nodded with a huge smile plastered on my face, and held up the paper. I pointed to the now capitalized word, then at myself. I had to do that a few more times before Hisoka's face lit up as he made the connection.
"Ahh! So you are Kiwadoi?" I nodded. Remembering that there was a whole other side to the paper that was blank (I know. I'm slow when I comes to remembering stuff like that ^0^(), I turned it over and quickly wrote something. When I was done, I held it up for the others to read.
"I don't have a lot of memories from my past, aside from living on the streets, but when I saw the characters put together like that, I suddenly remembered! My mother, although we weren't together for long, at least taught me how to write our family name. It was Kiwadoi. It also means 'Dangerous'."
Killua's face brightened as we finally solved the puzzle that had been plaguing us for the past few hours. Illumi asked, "But how did you know to write that?"
"I didn't. I guess I just subconsciously wrote it as I was doodling. 'Dangerous' must've been mulling around inside my head, and just came out when I wasn't thinking." A minute later, I added, "But I think some of it also had to do because in the back of my mind, I knew that that was my last name. It was drilled into me as a baby." Everyone nodded as if to say that that explained things.
A/N: Ok, so like I said. Not a very good chapter this time, but I wanted to save some suspense for later in the second half. So please R&R and you'll have the second part in no time! As a little incentive, you get to learn more about Shizuka's mom! And a clue to Shizuka's past is close to getting revealed. (And sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes. I'm tired XD)
