Chapter 18

Leonardo seethed as he paced restlessly around the dojo as he tried to think of what to do. A brief flash of orange caught his attention as Michelangelo quickly strode past the entrance of the meditation room.

"Mikey!" He shouted, trying to gain the attention of his baby brother.

Michelangelo stopped and poked his head through the entrance. "What?" he asked. "I'm kinda busy. Kitten's managed to pull her mom's attention away from Holly and I'm meeting her at the warehouse entrance. I'm gonna show her around the place."

Just the sound of Katherine's nickname caused Leonardo's teeth to grind together in furious anger. "Get. In. Here," he bit out with sharp impatience, knowing he was unfairly taking his anger out on Michelangelo, but couldn't help it.

Michelangelo slid into the room, a concerned look on his face.

"Close the door." Leonardo ground out.

Michelangelo stopped mid-step and turned, sliding the paper and wooden lattice door behind him shut before turning and taking a deep breath, trying to brace himself for Leonardo's wrath.

"What'd I do?" Michelangelo asked resignation. "You have twenty minutes to chew me out before I gotta go meet Holly, so be quick. And I'm not going to listen to you tell me I can't see Holly anymore cause she's just going to leave and break my heart."

Leonardo blinked a few times, trying to process Michelangelo's words before he shook his head from side to side. "It's got nothing to do with you, Mikey," he said as Michelangelo's shoulders slumped with relief, confusion gathering upon his features.

"Then-" Michelangelo began but Leonardo interrupted.

"It's about Raph," Leonardo practically spit his younger brother's name out in disgust.

"Ooookaaay," Michelangelo said, dragging the word out. "Is he okay?" he asked tentatively.

Leonardo's eyes narrowed dangerously. "Not for much longer," he growled under his breath too low and soft for Michelangelo to hear his words, so he continued in a normal voice. "Katherine and Raph are having an affair," he managed to get the horrible truth out.

Michelangelo let out a breath of relief, placing a hand on his chest. "Awhh, Leo, you really had me worried there," Michelangelo said waving away the words. "Raph and Kitten are just really close. Trust me; they aren't doing anything behind Donny's back."

Leonardo blinked at Michelangelo, shocked that his brother wasn't taking what he had just said seriously.

"I saw them together, Mikey…" Leonardo began.

Michelangelo shook his head back and forth. "Leo, trust me. I thought the same thing. I opened my big yap thinking that Donny and Raph were sharing Kitten."

Michelangelo's words momentarily distracted Leonardo. "You said what!?" he exclaimed in shock.

"I know." Michelangelo winced. "It was stupid."

"Stupid? You thought Donny would just...just say 'hey Raph, would you like to share my girlfriend?"

Michelangelo grimaced. "It sounds stupid when you say it out loud," he said sheepishly.

But Leonardo wasn't done. "Raph can't even share the TV remote, and you thought that he would be okay to share Katherine with Donny?" he asked, incredulous.

"It isn't my fault!" Michelangelo's voice rose an octave higher and came out almost as a petulant whine. "They were always together and Donny didn't seem to mind it when Raph was all touchy feely with her, and Raph and Donny stopped bickering all the time. What else was I supposed to think?!"

"That they got over it!" Leonardo answered completely sidetracked by his brother's words.

Michelangelo opened his mouth but then deflated. He rubbed the back of his neck with one of his hands. "I know, I messed up. I told Donny that it was obvious that Raph and Kitten were lovers again, and that Kitten seemed really happy, and things kinda...imploded. Donny called me in a panic and told me he had messed up by accusing them of having an affair and that they weren't and I'm pretty sure they almost broke up over it... but I tried to tell him how to fix it."

Leonardo's mind flashed back to just before they had left the island to go to Comic Con. He had noticed some tension in the air between Donatello and Katherine, but hadn't thought much of it. Now he understood what had happened.

Leonardo shook his head in irritation, angry with himself for getting distracted.

"But Kitten and Raph aren't sneaking around behind Donny's back, Leo. They just went through hell and back on that island. I'm pretty sure they were just having a private word since they could finally have one. I watched them together in the hospital. Raph was friendly, concerned, attentive, but never stepped over the line. And Kitten loves Raph, she gets all touchy feely with him, but that doesn't mean that anything is going on between them." Michelangelo turned, walking towards the door, one hand outstretched.

Leonardo digested Michelangelo's words for a moment. "Mikey, I walked in on them having sex together."

Michelangelo froze, quickly turning, his eyes wide with shock. "You...what did they say?" Michelangelo whispered in horror.

"I didn't talk to them!" Leonardo said in exasperation. "I saw them in the garage and I was just so-"

"Wait, they were in the garage?" Michelangelo interrupted.

"Yes, Mikey, they were in the garage and-"

"So they were having sex in the garage where anyone could see them?" Michelangelo interrupted again.

Leonardo tried to hold onto the remaining threads of his temper. "Yes. Mikey." He bit out.

"Are you sure they were actually having sex?" Michelangelo asked him doubtfully.

"I know what I saw," he ground out through clenched teeth. His talk with his brother not going as he had thought it would.

Michelangelo thought it over and shook his head. "Leo, I don't know what to say. When Donny called me from the island he seemed pretty sure that there wasn't anything going on between Raph and Kitten."

"Katherine's vulnerable right now, Mikey." Leonardo began to pace again. As much as he was angry with Katherine for betraying Donatello, he knew that most -if not all- of the blame lay at Raphael's feet. Katherine had spent hours in a basement watching the water rise up and up and was unable to do anything to stop it. She managed to survive, which showed clear and decisive thinking on her part. But what thoughts had tumbled around in her head as she waited for her inevitable death? She had died so that Michelangelo could live, Leonardo hadn't forgotten that. And although they had managed to bring her back, it wasn't done without complications. She had spent over a month in the hospital, separated from Donatello, and seeing Raphael practically every day. Add to that the stress of having her mother forcing her to take a job in Canada, and then adding the guilt of being responsible for her mother forcing Holly to do the same... Katherine was probably a mixed mess of emotions that Raphael had taken full advantage of.

Michelangelo frowned. "Kitten doesn't do vulnerable."

Leonardo spun around and stalked up to Michelangelo who yelped at the look of fury no doubt carved into his face.

" Okay," Michelangelo held up his hands in surrender and defense. "All I'm saying is that you might not have seen what you thought you saw. So maybe you'd better talk to Raph first before you drop this on Donny. It looks like Kitten's sorting things out with her mom so who knows, she may end up staying, and believe me when I say I already stirred up things enough when I dropped that on him the last time. I'd hate for you to screw things up between them if nothing's going on."

"I know what I saw," he insisted with a growl.

Michelangelo shrugged, unconvinced. "I dunno, Leo. You're right, Raph doesn't share the TV remote, he'd never be okay with...you know..." his voice trailed off uncomfortably.

"Sharing?" Leonardo offered.

"Sloppy seconds," Michelangelo replied awkwardly obviously not liking to apply the term to Katherine.

Leonardo flinched slightly at the crude words and had to wipe away the image that sprang unbidden to his mind.

Leonardo rubbed a hand down his face as he contemplated his brother's words. He would normally be apt to agree with him, except he knew what he saw. There could be no mistaking the grunts and moans of pleasure, the strained gasps, their bodies moving together, the flush upon Katherine's cheeks, her pink lips slightly swollen from being thoroughly kissed...

He felt heat flood through his body and he shook himself.

"-and then I'll be back with Holly, 'kay?" Michelangelo said as he clapped him on his shoulder, spinning on his heel, sliding open the door, and leaving it open behind him.

Leonardo blinked, realizing that he had been so immersed within the vivid memory that he had called to mind, that he had completely missed his brother's hasty words.

Leonardo ran another frustrated hand down his face as he paced back and forth a few more times. He thought about the look of devastation that would appear on Donatello's face when he discovered Raphael's betrayal. The look of heartbreak and hurt was an image too painful to bear.

Leonardo's anger slowly built up again until it became a red haze of fury. A flash of emerald green and red flashed by the door of the meditation room catching Leonardo's attention.

Leonardo ran from the meditation room, following Raphael, who was headed towards the stairs that went to the upper floor.

"Raphael. Dojo. Now!" Leonardo commanded, his voice shaking with suppressed anger.

Raphael quickly turned, an irritated frown upon his face. "I'm busy," he grunted.

"I wasn't asking." Leonardo snarled as he turned stalking back towards the dojo. Raphael cursed quietly under his breath, but followed reluctantly behind his older brother.

They entered the dojo and it was all Leonardo could do not to attack his brother right there and then. But some of Michelangelo's words of warning managed to permeate his rage filled brain.

"What's got your panties in such a bunch?" Raphael growled, crossing his arms over his chest. "If this is about me not trainin', in case you forgot, I just got my cast off, and I was in here for three hours this morning."

Raphael's nonchalant , easy attitude forced Leonardo over the edge. If there had been even a tiny bit of shame or guilt present in his expression Leonardo may have been able to stop himself from lunging at Raphael, but there wasn't.

Raphael quickly deflected his charge throwing him up and over his head. Leonardo twisted and landed on his feet hitting the table behind him with his carapace.

"I ain't in the mood to fight with you right now, Leo." Raphael rumbled.

"Tired?" Leonardo asked snidely.

Raphael frowned in confusion and gave a non-committal shrug. "Maybe. Listen, I'm busy so whatever bug has crawled up your ass and got you all hot and bothered is just gonna have 'ta wait."

Leonardo felt his cheeks flame with heat. "I'm not all 'hot and bothered'," he growled.

"Whatever. I gotta go have a little...chat with Donny," Raphael informed him with a wave of his hand as he turned to leave.

Leonardo picked up his katanas from the table beside him, strapping them across his back and drawing the blades. "Are you going to tell him?" Leonardo asked in a deadly soft voice.

Raphael frowned and looked at Leonardo over his shoulder. "Tell him what?" he asked in confusion.

Leonardo's jaw fell open in disbelief. Raphael was looking at him as if he had no idea to what he was referring to. He genuinely did not regret any of his actions regarding Katherine. That Raphael also seemed to care nothing for Donatello's feelings was blatantly obvious.

Leonardo clenched the hilts of his swords in indignant fury. "You are such a selfish bastard!" he yelled as he attacked Raphael.

Raphael dodged and managed to grab his sais ,which had been angrily driven through the torso of a nearby training dummy.

"Leo, piss off. I ain't in the mood for your shit!" Raphael snarled as he blocked Leonardo's katana blades with his sais.

All Leonardo could see was a red haze of fury. He shook with anger, his skin feeling prickly and hot, his muscles tensing as he pushed Raphael back.

Raphael stumbled and Leonardo kicked Raphael in the stomach, hard. Leonardo heard the satisfying rush of air leaving Raphael's lungs as he doubled over, gasping for breath.

Leonardo punched Raphael in the face, his blade biting into the soft flesh of his brother's left cheek. Raphael rolled and stood, his eyes narrowed into thin slits of golden rage.

"You have no plans on even telling him what you did, and you don't even feel guilty about it, do you!?" Leonardo asked, his voice rising with each word.

"I don't know what the hell you are talking about!" Raphael shouted back as he wiped at the blood that had begun to trickle down his cheek and drip onto his shirt.

Leonardo lowered his voice, his rage still burning brightly. "I saw you."

"Saw me what?"

"Fucking Katherine." Leonardo didn't normally speak so crudely, that honour was usually left to Raphael, but he was too angry to censor himself at the moment.

Raphael froze his eyes widening slightly before narrowing again. "So you saw us?" Raphael shrugged. "I was hopin' it'd be Donny. I woulda liked to have seen the look on his face," Raphael said smugly, giving a quick crooked grin before another, unconcerned shrug.

Leonardo stood there completely nonplused in front of his unrepentant brother. He opened his mouth a few times before he was able to get anything resembling speech to pass his lips. "You...you..." He was at a loss for words; he couldn't even get any out.

"Well, I guess everyone had to find out sometime," Raphael grumbled.

"Find out?" Leonardo's voice was a squeak of disbelief.

"Yeah, 'bout me and Kitten." Raphael smoothed out his clothing grimacing at the blood stains that now marred this white shirt.

"So you admit it?" he yelped.

"Of course I admit it," Raphael said in exasperation.

"And you don't feel guilty? You don't feel anything?" he asked in shocked disbelief.

Raphael frowned in confusion. "What the hell would I feel guilty for? She's-"

Leonardo charged Raphael, quickly spinning and kicking his brother's bad arm.

Raphael hissed in pain, twisted and gave a smooth uppercut to Leonardo's chin. Leonardo pulled back enough so that his brother's knuckles only grazed his jaw.

"For having sex with your brother's girlfriend!" Leonardo roared as he managed to dart forward and slam his knee into Raphael's stomach a second time. Raphael doubled over and pushed forward, tackling Leonardo to the ground. Leonardo rolled back on his carapace managing to get a foot onto Raphael's plastron and throw him over his head.

Raphael landed easily. "I-" Raphael began but Leonardo was too angry to listen to his words.

Leonardo leapt to his feet turning to face his brother. "I don't want to hear your excuses! I should have known that you would go behind Donny's back since you have absolutely no concept of honour and even less about the meaning of family, " Leonardo snarled interrupting Raphael's words. "You had her pressed up against the wall of the garage, where any one of us -including Donny- could have seen you!"

"Yeah, and how long did you sit there and watch, Leo?"Raphael asked his voice low and silky. "Did you like what you saw? Is that why you're all hot and bothered? Got a little pent up sexual frustration and no outlet?" Raphael mocked.

Leonardo felt his cheeks darken with embarrassment and anger. He opened his mouth but no words came out, not that it mattered because Raphael was talking again anyway.

Raphael's face became serious, his eyes pleading and intent. "Leo, do you really think that I would sneak around with Katherine behind Donny's back?" Raphael asked, his eyes searching.

"Yeah, Raph, I do. And you know what? I bet you liked it. You were probably sitting there laughing your ass off at Donny for ever trusting you! You are nothing but a selfish bastard. The only one you ever think about is yourself. You don't give a shit about anyone else and you don't care who you hurt as long as you get what you want. You are a self-absorbed, egotistical, lying, betraying, son of a bitch."

"Don't hold back just to spare my feelings, Leo. Tell me what you really think of me," Raphael taunted, but his voice had an underlying note of hurt, which only infuriated Leonardo even more.

"What Katherine ever saw in you, what she actually sees in you now, I'll never know."

Raphael visibly flinched, his golden amber eyes filled with pain. It was obvious that his words had struck a sore point with his brother.

Leonardo took this flinch of weakness and used it, his next words as sharp and cutting as a finely honed blade."Of course she was smart enough to actually stay with Donny, and you...you just get sloppy seconds," Leonardo bit out cruelly, borrowing Michelangelo's terminology and using it to lash out at Raphael and draw blood.

It was now Raphael's turn to open and close his mouth a few times like a landed fish gasping for air. Finally Raphael managed to speak. "Wh-what did you just say?" he whispered dangerously, his fists tightening around his sais until his knuckles were white with barely restrained fury.

"You heard me," Leonardo began, his voice soft, almost mocking. "What's it feel like to know that you have to wait your turn? Like today, Katherine comes out of Donny's bedroom, rumpled, hair mussed up, lips swollen from kissing, cheeks flushed from the exertion of sex, and knowing that all you get is a few minutes of sloppy seconds after Donny was finished with her?" His words were biting, malicious and cruel, meant to hurt, maim and tear at his brother's very heart and soul.

Raphael barely gave Leonardo enough time to finish his question before he charged. He struck Leonardo with murderous rage nearly sending his katana blades skittering across the floor.

Raphael was relentless in his attacks, but Leonardo was just as brutal, just as vicious, and just as angry. The clash of metal against metal rang throughout the dojo. Grunts of effort, of pain, of triumph echoed off the walls as snarled curses and shouts added to the cacophony of the brutal battle.

Leonardo struck out catching Raphael's arm. His blade easily cut through the tender flesh of his brother's bare arm, pulling a grunt of pain from Raphael. Leonardo leapt forward managing to punch Raphael across the face, his fist splattered with the blood from the laceration that he had earlier inflicted across his brother's cheek.

Raphael stumbled back and Leonardo charged forward. Raphael tired to dodge but he was just that little bit too slow... slow enough the Leonardo's deadly blade connected with the flesh of his brother's right leg. Leonardo pulled his other blade back where it had cut into brother's left side. The slices were deep, and they bled severely, no doubt causing Raphael a great deal of pain.

But Raphael didn't even cry out . He looked at Leonardo, his eyes in shadow, breathing heavy. Raphael let out a roar of fury before charging again. Leonardo caught Raphael's sais with his katanas, throwing Raphael back a few steps. Raphael took another few steps back, putting some room between them. Raphael suddenly rushed forward and Leonardo grabbed Raphael by the shoulders and threw him over his shoulder. There was a sickening crack as Raphael hit the hard stone wall behind him, but Leonardo was too angry and reckless to even care. Raphael managed to pull himself to his feet just as Leonardo gave a round house kick to his brother's abused jaw, sending him careening back into the wall. Leonardo lunged at his brother, deadly blade pressed into the delicate flesh of Raphael's throat.

Raphael didn't breathe, didn't make a single movement as Leonardo pushed his blade further into his brother's flesh, enough to break skin and cause dark crimson blood to slowly ooze from the wound.

"You are no longer my brother," he stated viciously.

Raphael looked at him, narrowed eyes nothing more than molten pools of anger and pain.

"That's fine, I don't this family, and I sure a hell don't need you," Raphael bit out through bloodied teeth.

"Get out." Leonardo snarled. "Get out and don't ever come back. If you do, I swear I'll kill you. " He pressed his blade in just that little bit more to punctuate his point before stepping away and giving his brother one last, brutal punch across the jaw. Raphael fell heavily to the ground as Leonardo attempted to smother the rising guilt of what he had just done.

Raphael gasped as he rolled over, spitting some blood upon the floor as he angrily wiped the blood away from his split lip.

Leonardo strode from the dojo, no longer looking back as he stalked to the meditation room, pacing back and forth trying to contain the angry horror and miserable tears that welled up in his eyes at what he had just done.

He didn't leave the room until he heard the roar of a motorcycle engine and the painful squeal of rubber upon stone.

Leonardo managed to gain control of himself; telling himself that Raphael had been given everything he had deserved, and that he had brought it upon himself. He wiped away a stray tear that managed to escape and tried not to think about the fact that he had just disowned Raphael and kicked him out of the only home he had ever known; a home that comprised not so much the lair, but the home made up of their family as well.

He swallowed down the lump in his throat as he realized that he would have to break the news to Donatello...and Michelangelo.

He looked down at his shaking hands, still tightly holding his katana blades. He went to sheathe them, but saw that they were still wet with Raphael's blood.

Leonardo felt the bile rise up in his throat as he stared at his brother's blood. He looked down at his hands, his jade flesh covered in crimson accusation. He dropped his swords to the ground and stared at them in horror as the full enormity of what he had done hit him, crushing the breath from his lungs and leaving him gasping for air.

His heart began to hammer painfully in his chest; panic filling him. He didn't know how badly he had injured Raphael. He swallowed roughly and shook his head, pushing away the panic.

Raphael will be fine, he told himself. Raphael would probably head over to April and Casey's apartment and April would stitch him up, and knowing Raphael, he would just lie about the reason he and Leonardo had fought; or Raphael would just say he was attacked by street thugs of some sort.

This thought only made him angry again, banishing any pangs of guilt or sympathy he felt for his former brother.

He didn't know how long he stayed in the meditation room for. He had sat down on the mat and contemplated Raphael's betrayal. He placed his head upon his drawn up knees and closed his eyes, thinking about Katherine, and how she had brought their family back together, only to destroy it beyond any sort of repair.

He finally stood, picking his katanas up off the floor; the blood almost dried to a sticky rust colour. He stalked through the lair intent on going back to the dojo where he could clean off his blades properly.

He turned the corner and ran directly into Donatello.

Donatello stumbled back, but quickly recovered, looking at Leonardo with wide, chocolate brown eyes filled with worry and confusion that quickly shifted to horror as he took in Leonardo's bloodied hands, face, clothing and katanas.

"Leo! Wh-what did you do?" he whispered, eyes wide with fear.
