Chapter 3: Deal in the Dark

He quickly sat up and began ripping off monitor leads. "The fuck you talking about 'turned' me? What, I'm gonna become like her?"

"I have no idea. This is the first time anyone has survived meeting her. Riddick, please be careful."

"Or what? She's gonna kill me? Yeah like that hasn't happened…"

He stormed off and made his way back to the cage, and slammed the doors open. When he got to the bottom, he ripped off his goggles, the familiar instinct taking over, but this time, he could see everything. Including her.

"I'm only going to ask this once: what the fuck did you do to me?"

She didn't respond, only staring at him in silence. When he got fed up, he marched towards her, but only to be flung back by the hit of her tail. It was when he was sitting back up, did she respond.

"Do not threaten me Riddick. I am not in the mood to kill you again." She had bared her fangs. And boy, did they look sharp…all eight of them.

"Why can I see normally? Why do I feel different? I feel—"

"Stronger? Complete? That's because you are. You're a full blooded Furian, Riddick. One of the last of your kind. Furians were originally known as brutei atronacus. It means "half breed warrior". Each Furian, dependent on their personality, is born half beast, half elemental. Your element, is fire. Yet your beast…" She smiled genuinely. "…is one of the Dark. It was Dark long before I met you Riddick. You created that lie about the surgeon because you never knew why your eyes are that way. Now, you do."

"So what, I'm part animal? Am I gonna grow a tail like you? Cause I'll cut the damn thing off…"

She laughed as she walked up to him slowly. "No, no tail for you. Your abilities will be different than mine. Also, I can help you remember our fight now. It's simple. You just need…" she reached up towards his neck. "…to let go." When her claws dug deep into his spine, he yelped as he was thrown from his body again.

When he opened his eyes, he saw the back of a massive bipedal creature. It was made entirely of darkened flames. It seemed to notice his presence, because it turned around and looked at him. Its eyes glowed bright orange, despite its grey flame existence. Its face was narrow, like a canine, and from the muzzle, what appeared to be fangs bore from its mouth. Long arms and pointed claws hung at its side, and a long, dragon-like tail flayed from its back. Oddly enough, Riddick felt calm, almost at peace. Like he was welcoming back an old friend…

Suddenly, to the right of the creature, a portal opened up, and both Riddick and the creature watched as his memory of the fight between her and the Dark female appeared. It got to the part where she was about to kill him. She had him on the ground, straddling his chest with a clawed hand up high above his head. He watched in agony when her hand came down, but suddenly, Riddick's arm snapped up, and grabbed her arm, stopping the final blow. When the memory panned to his face, his eyes were glowing orange. Just like the creature that stood before him.

"It was you," It dawned on him. This was his "beast". The primordial instinct he always felt. The memory faded away, and the beast looked at him. "You saved me back there."

Us, it growled out. It raised its hand, and a surge of energy was sent flying at him.

When he snapped out of it, he was back in the cage. After a few pants, he shook off the electric feeling. He looked at her, but this time, she was different. There wasn't a tail, or claws. She looked human, minus the pointed ears.

"May I ask something of you Riddick?"

"Sure, why not." He said as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"If I teach you how to become one with your beast, will you set me free?"

"You gonna try to kill me again if I say no?"

She smiled. "Even if I wanted to, I can't now. It is against our highest code, to kill our own kind. Had I known you were full Furian, I wouldn't have tried to kill you."

"So what, you teach me more about this thing, and you want me to let you outta here?"

"Yes. And I can teach you, but for that, I need to leave this cage."

"You gonna go on a killing spree on those Necros out there? From what I hear, they don't like you very much. I'd go as far as to say they'd kill you."

"Well, you've fought me, so you tell me." She smiled viciously. "Who would really win?"
