I know that it's been 50 years since I've updated this and that's because I felt like no one was actually reading it but I did plot out the whole story for this once upon a time. So hopefully I can continue it….maybe.
17 days. That's how long they've been stuck here, wherever here is. The mysterious walls that appeared over night still menacingly towered over them. A constant reminder of their lack of freedom. Damon had made it a mission to search for some kind of opening in the walls everyday but what he was really searching for was, hope. Hope that he could escape and return back to his regular life, and return back to his beloved Elena. Bonnie on the other hand had given up much sooner than Damon in the conquest for an escape plan she had accepted that they were stuck here, wherever here was. So while Damon poked and prodded every part of the looming grey stone walls for a weak spot, Bonnie would try to sleep the day away as best she could. But the same nightmare had plagued her since they got here, the nightmare of becoming a monster. She hadn't told Damon but he knew, as much as she tried to conceal her little secret. He knew of her sleepless nights because whenever he couldn't go to sleep he'd hear her flipping the pages to another book. He knew because when he finally did arrive home he would find her in bed with small beads of sweat and her eyebrows furrowed. He could see that in her sleep she was at odds with herself, he knew from the bags under her eyes and how lifeless her hair had gotten. Despite how much she said she was okay she wasn't and neither was he. Today he walked in with his shoulders slumped as he was worn out, his human body got tired more quickly, he plopped himself in the armchair he had claimed to be his and let out a long sigh. And as if on cue, Bonnie's breathing became hitched as it always did when he arrived. He rubbed his eyeballs and went to gently wake her with a poke in her back. He remembered the first time he had awoken her and it was catastrophic, because she had bit him so hard that her teeth pierced his skin. But know they had this down to a science after a few failed attempts and a couple more nasty bits, Damon had created a strategy. Three pokes in the back, a rub of the shoulder, and a little tickle of her left ear, then he would grab her by the cheeks and tell her to wake up. After some wrestling with her eyes, she would open them slowly to be greeted with Damon's. He chuckled as he always did when he woke her up because she looked like a goldfish as he pressed the sides of her mouth closer. Bonnie smacked his hands away and shifted herself up to sitting position.
"You know eventually we're gonna have to talk about these nightmares." Damon said as he sat on the edge of the bed.
"What nightmares?" Bonnie asked playing stupid.
"Really?" Damon glared at her, he was sick of this game.
"Yes, really I have no idea what you're talking about." Bonnie said convincingly if it hadn't been for the slight shiver.
"I guess you also don't know why you scream while you sleep. Or that you sweat like a pig. Or the reason you don't sleep at night. Or why your eye bags are the size of pancakes." Damon responded he was sick of her façade.
"So… sometimes I have nightmares, what's it to you?" Bonnie said rising out of the bed sick of Damon's interrogation.
"Oh I don't know the fact that I can't sleep without you losing your shit." Damon himself was getting eye bags from not being able to sleep without Bonnie getting a nightmare.
"Oh the princess couldn't get his beauty sleep." Bonnie said as she walked towards the kitchen.
"Don't call me Princess, and if it were one night it wouldn't be a problem but it's every night Bonnie." Damon said as he followed her to the kitchen. Bonnie huffed in concentration not knowing what to say next.
"I'll tell you about my nightmares, when you give up on that god forsaken wall." Bonnie said sure that he would forfeit as she begun to serve him his plate. Damon smirked as he sat down on the table.
"Okay so tell me about your nightmares." Damon replied as Bonnie put his plate down in front of him.
"I'm sorry what?" Bonnie asked not sure she heard him correctly as she took her seat across from him.
"Mmm you made linguini." Damon said as he wafted his plate so that he could smell it and it was mouthwatering. Despite not liking being human he was glad that he had an appetite again and glad he could appreciate such lovely a meal.
"Yeah I did. I found a cookbook lodged in between the shelves last night. Now back to what you were saying earlier." Bonnie said as she spun her linguini on her fork.
"Oh I said okay, let's talk about your nightmares." Damon replied as he took his first bite.
"You did understand that you have to give up your conspiracy, that with the right amount of pokes the walls will open, right?" Bonnie pointed at him.
"Yeah I understood and is that paprika and… cinnamon I taste?" Damon said as rolled he food around on his tongue.
"Umm yeah I wanted to try something different. Are you telling me that you're done?" Bonnie said not wanting to stray from the topic.
"I like it. It's sweet but savory." Damon said as he continued to savor his food.
"Damon!" Bonnie said as she laid her hands on the table she was sick of his stalling. Damon stopped eating and stared at her.
"Funny thing is that I was actually on my way over here, ready to tell you that I have come to the conclusion that we are caged in here."
"I figured that out 12 days ago. So what stopped you from telling me this?" Bonnie wondered as that should have been his opening statement.
"Oh I don't know, you having a nightmare. Now can we talk about it?" Damon begged.
"Well I don't believe you, so I'm not going to tell you." Damon's hands met his face as he began to rub his forehead vigorously.
"Must you be so stubborn woman!"
"Must you be a liar!" Bonnie mimicked him as she stared at her linguini as if it were a task.
"I'm not lying!" Damon practically screamed through a clenched jaw, Bonnie got up abruptly.
"Wait, where are you going?" Damon asked as the anger quickly left his voice and concern took place, she had barely touched her plate.
"I'm going to shower."
"But you haven't eaten anything." Damon stood as well to block her exit.
"I ate earlier." Bonnie replied as she glared him in the eye.
"Now who's the liar?" Damon countered as he glared back down at her.
"I'm not lying." She retorted through their intense glare down.
"Can you please just eat?" Damon softened as he begged her to do so, he knew she had been avoiding eating as well.
"I'm not hungry." Bonnie argued as she looked away, not wanting to see what looked like worry in his eyes.
"Bonnie please do me the favor and eat. I promise I won't bring up the nightmares, if you do." As he craned his head to make sure that she couldn't avoid him.
"You promise?" Bonnie asked finally turning to look him in the eyes and he saw a very fragile Bonnie, a Bonnie he wasn't use to seeing.
"I promise." Damon smirked so that she could see he was genuine. Bonnie glared at him in distaste for a second, wondering why he cared so much. But Damon offered her a smile that only made him look more suspicious.
"Fine. I'll eat." Bonnie decided as she sat back down and grabbed her fork, but she still side eyed him in suspicion.
"Thank you." Damon sighed as he returned to his seat to enjoy his meal, but he watched Bonnie with care to see if she was indeed keeping up her end of the bargain. She was or at least she was trying, it looked as if the task of picking up the fork itself was taxing.
"You can't leave me locked in here! My first day of classes are tomorrow!" Elena yelled from the Salvatore's dungeon.
"Which is why I have to leave you locked in here." Caroline replied it was killing her seeing her best friend this way, but she couldn't let Elena run around feeding off of everyone because of her need to hallucinate her deceased boyfriend.
"No you don't, just open the door and we can pretend this never happened." Elena begged with a crazy look in her eyes.
"But this did happen and it'll keep happening, if I don't put a stop to it." Caroline answered as strongly she could because even she could admit that Elena was scaring her right now. She had never seen her friend like this before not even when she turned her switch off.
"I swear I'll never do it again, Care. I don't even like how it makes me feel afterwards. It's like having this itch I can't scratch all over my body. It's not good, I swear Care I will never do it again." Elena cried out as tears began to slide down from her eyes and she pleaded to Caroline to hear her out.
"I know it'll never happen again." Caroline replied with a sad smile as tears began to swell in her eyes.
"So you'll let me out?" Elena smiled as she began to wipe the drops on her face.
"No. I'm gonna bleed you dry. So it's no longer in your system and then when you've recovered I'll let you out." Caroline said with a lump in her throat as she prepared herself for Elena to lash out. Elena backed away from the doorway with a snide little smirk that hid a growl underneath.
"You manipulative, know-it-all, bitch. You just have to control everything don't you? This is why I didn't move in with you, and then you wonder why no one tells you anything. Because nobody likes you! I sure as hell don't, I fucking despise you." Elena growled at her hoping that it would rile Caroline up enough to want to fight. But instead tears began to fall against Caroline's porcelain skin at the image of her ravenous friend.
"I'm sorry I didn't realize this sooner, Elena. I'm sorry I didn't realize that you were drowning while the rest of us barely stayed afloat. But I'm gonna fix this I promise, okay." Caroline nodded as she began to walk away while Elena's obscenities echoed the hallways she walked through.
They were in their usual spot. Or well to be more accurate, they were in the spot they had made their usual since their arrival and entrapment. They were at the boulder that Bonnie fell off of her first day here, except now she was just slightly more adept. But her sleep deprivation was no help to her in this department, but Damon had learned quick as he always made her sit closer to the land while he took the spot overlooking the river. Everyday at 5:00 or what they guessed was 5:00 since they had no concept of time here, they would make it to the huge boulder. To watch the sun one last time before it disappeared behind the ugly towering walls that surrounded them.
"It's starting." Bonnie smiled as she watched the sun begin its descent.
"I know." Damon wiggled his brow and Bonnie would have remarked him had she not wanted to put her full attention towards the premature sunset. Damon was also enamoured with the view as he quit his shenanigans because he knew they didn't have very long. Damon was sure Bonnie didn't realize she did this everyday but as the sun disappeared she would always reach out for it with her fingers outstretched as if she could just grab the sun and hold it up in the sky for a just a little while longer. Damon never stopped her because he wanted the sun to be there for just a little while longer too, but it wasn't. The sun always faded behind the stone walls and all they were left with was a faint pink casted in the sky to remember the sun by.
"So we're stuck here for eternity?" Bonnie asked Damon without looking away from the sky as it turned from a soft pink to a dark blue.
"Seems so." Damon breathed heavily as he was just coming to terms with it.
"How boring." Bonnie sighed as she planted her head on her knees.
"Hey I like to think, I'm pretty fun." Damon joked with a smirk but Bonnie wasn't in the mood for jokes.
"Everyday the same, what could we possibly do?" Bonnie asked as she started to think of them withering away while sitting watching the sunset.
"I can think of a few things." Damon said with a wiggle of his brow and Bonnie didn't have to see him to know that he was thinking his typical dirty thoughts. So she shoved his human self and he nearly fell of the boulder and it brought a smile to her face. He shrieked a little because he remembered how cold the water is and brought himself back to sitting position.
"If we're gonna be stuck here for eternity then you're going to have to get use to my dirty jokes." Damon said.
"If only they were just jokes." Bonnie replied snidely.
"You got a point there." Damon smirked at her and Bonnie just rolled her eyes.
"Come on, Bonnie considering this is the afterlife, it's not that bad." Damon tried to bargain with her, in an odd turn of events he was trying to remain optimistic.
"What are you talking about we're imprisoned?" Bonnie said as she faced him, not seeing exactly how this could not be so bad.
"Well considering I was no angel, I'm glad to be here. Instead of getting sucked into the darkness, I was absorbed by the light with you for reasons that remain unknown. But trust me I rather be here 100x over than end up where Katherine was sent too. For all I know I could be burning in an inferno right now, but instead I'm here where I get to watch the sunset with a person who has the tendency to be annoying and I can tolerate that." Damon smiled and Bonnie saw that he indeed did have a point, she saw Katherine get pulled into the depths of hell she was glad she was not pulled along with her. Then she remembered who else she let go into the darkness, Silas. Silas who had been haunting her as she slept recently, Silas who never did anything in the dream but tell her the truth, that she was a monster.
"I turn into a vampire." She whispered.
"What?" Damon asked as he looked at her ludicrously not sure if he had heard her correctly.
"That's my nightmare. I wake up in darkness and Silas chases me. But at the end I realize he's not the monster, I am. I'm a vampire." Bonnie huffed as she finally got it out off her chest, she felt free but after she saw the look on Damon's face she quickly felt the weight drop right back onto her chest.
"Forget it." Bonnie said as she quickly got up.
"Bonnie I'm not judging you, I was just wondering what finally made you tell me." Damon asked as he followed behind her.
"I don't know, the fact that we're going to be here forever so there's no point in keeping secrets." Bonnie grunted as she continued to rush back to the cottage, but Damon stopped her. And she stood in shock because she hadn't been touched in a long time and his touch was warm and she quickly realized that she missed being touched, she missed Jeremy. Damon felt strange as well, touching her, so he quickly dropped his hands to Bonnie's disappointment.
"You're right, if we're going to be here we should be able to talk about everything. Considering it's all we have to do." Damon found himself wanting to put his hands on her again or ideally a hug like the one she gave him the first day they arrived. It was given that she was delusional at that point but still Damon yearned for the feeling of her warmth.
"Wait that's why you hugged me that day, isn't it? Because I wasn't the nightmare anymore." Damon asked while staring into her eyes and when he was greeted with her quiet he knew he was right.
"You weren't Silas, you were real." Bonnie whispered as she turned around and began to trudge her way back home, she was done talking about her dreams for the night.
"So some could say you were actually happy to see me?" Damon smirked as it was rare for Damon to have people glad to see him. If Bonnie could roll her eyes back into her head she would, if there is anyone in the world who could make everything about themselves it was Damon.
"I hate you." Bonnie said as she shook her head at his arrogance.
"No you don't, you like me." Damon sang as they reached the door.
"Dare I say you like me a lot." Damon wiggled his eyebrows yet again as he swung the door open for her.
"Say whatever lies make you sleep better at night." Bonnie smiled at him as she went in and plopped herself on the bed.
Caroline finally made it to campus despite all the crap she had to deal with today, and to think she wasn't done yet. She made her way down the corridor, a woman on a mission. She took a sharp turn and knocked on a door abruptly. After a sigh and some shuffling, a person made it to the door. Luke opened the door and his hair was a mess and Caroline caught from her peripheral a very hot guy in his bed.
"Caroline?" Luke muttered in surprise.
"He's cute. We need to talk."
"As I'm sure you can see now is not a good time for me." Luke smiled as he began to close the door.
"No, now is a great time." Caroline smiled as she grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him out into the hallway.
"I'll give him back to you shortly." Caroline said as she slammed the door on the cute guy.
"What's this all about?" Luke yelled as he yanked himself out her grasp.
"I'm sure you know pretty damn well, what this is all about." Caroline blinked as she crossed her arms.
"No I don't." Luke answered obliviously.
"Really, does witch drugs and Elena jog your memory a little bit?" Caroline said with a rise of her thin brows as he soon began to realize that he was in trouble.
"Look I was just trying to help her, she came to me asking for something, anything that would help her calm down."
"So you gave her drugs!" Caroline yelled with her hands in the air.
"No! I gave her some herbs that my coven whipped up, they were just supposed to be incents it's not my fault she decided to smoke them." Luke finished with a sigh.
"But you knew she was smoking them and you still gave her more." Caroline accused him.
"I didn't want to, but when Elena's hopped up she's scary." Luke said remembering all the times she had threatened him with the eyes of a crazy person.
"So you're telling me, you gave her drugs because you were scared." Caroline mocked him as she pouted her lips.
"...yes." Luke admitted in shame.
"Does Liv know about this?" Caroline asked as her head turned to the side with a smile.
"No! And you can't tell her I can't have this getting out to the coven." Luke whispered and Caroline knew she had just found her leverage.
"Coven, coven. No one's even heard of your coven. But it's a surprise Liv doesn't know considering Elena's been trying to drain people in Mystic Falls thanks to your little herbs." Caroline said as she lowered her eyes still mad at how he let this get out of hand.
"What? She has? I didn't know that! The coven really wouldn't like that, my father especially. Look! I swear I'll never give Elena drugs again." Luke said with a layer of sweat on his face.
"Oh I know you won't, but that's not what I want. I want you to do me a favor." Caroline smiled confectionately as she blinked prettily and in that moment Luke learned that Elena had nothing on Caroline, because Elena maybe scary but Caroline made his stomach churn while simultaneously put him into ease and that was downright frightening.
Damon was showering and Bonnie was reading a particularly erotic scene in the book she had chosen to preoccupy her endless time. She was getting flustered from reading it and she swore if she touched her cheeks they would probably sear her hand. She was reading Outlander and she had reached Chapter 13 where Jamie reveals he's a virgin and although Bonnie was fully grown she had never been one to speak of sex seriously. In fact she was very taboo of it but now as she kept on reading, the more hot she got. Until she slammed the book shut, sure she read it like a 14 year old virgin who didn't know what an orgasm was, but it reminded her of how she yearned to be touched herself. And in that moment she missed Jeremy the only guy who has ever loved her, the only one who has ever touched her. But then she shook him out of her mind, he was gone and she was never going to see him again. She let out a sigh as she let the truth resonate, she planted her head in the pillow. She pulled the blanket over her as she begged to be warm but the blankets didn't bring her the type of warmth she wanted. She wanted the type of warmth that came from a hug or a kiss from a loved one. But the only thing hugging her was the dust that settled in the air.
Damon stepped out of the bathroom in his flannel pjs without a shirt on, because he somehow always forgot to put one on. But Bonnie wasn't going to fight him on it, not tonight anyways. Damon's usual smirk disappeared because he always got a kick out of bothering Bonnie but she hadn't even bothered to look at him. As soon as he realized that they'll be no game tonight, he quickly put on his shirt.
"What's wrong with you?"
"Oh nothing just letting the truth of the matter sink in." Bonnie sighed as she turned to face the ceiling with a blank expression.
"Which is what exactly?" Damon said as he plopped right next to her and searched the drywall above them looking for whatever truth she had found.
"That we are forever alone. This is it, Damon. Just me and you alone for the rest of eternity. Let that sink in for a minute." Bonnie sighed and her eyebrows furrowed in sadness.
"It could be worst." Damon thought aloud.
"Yeah I guess it could." Bonnie answered still not pleased with the reality of things, she wasn't sure if she could handle an eternity of doing the same thing everyday. She curled herself up into a little ball hoping she could close herself off from the world even though her world at this moment was only this cottage and Damon. Damon eyed her he could tell she wasn't exactly hyped by the fact that they were perpetually stuck here but he didn't blame her. Eventually only seeing each others faces would drive them mad but he hoped that happened later rather than sooner. He could sense the dawning grief radiating off of her and he figured instead of ignoring it, he should probably comfort her considering they will be stuck here forever. So he scooted himself closer to her body and wrapped his arm around her bringing her in close to her immediate surprise.
"What are you doing?" Bonnie asked as her body instantly tightened as it stood on edge.
"I'm doing you a favor." Damon replied as he tried to soothe her unsettling nerves by running his hand up and down her arm. Despite her initial reaction to rebel against his touch and what she could only call compassion, she found his touch brought her body a certain warmth that she hadn't felt awhile. A warmth that came with being alive, a warmth that came with love, and her body soon began to relax under his touch and her grief was a little lighter. Did she ever picture her and Damon hugging or I guess you can call it cuddling on a bed no never not in a million years, did she ever picture herself enjoying it, not in a billion. Hastily she decided to turn around and face him.
"What are you doing?" Damon asked as he looked into her eyes that always seemed to demonstrate the painful beauty in somber sadness.
"Returning the favor." Bonnie smiled as she wrapped her arm around him and hugged him tight, she knew she wasn't the only the one who needed it. They were both here together, both dealing with the fact that there lives were over. After a small hesitation Damon wrapped his arm around her and they hugged tightly and Damon could stop the smile that came across his face. No not a smirk but a full fledged smile one that goes from one corner to the other. As one bittersweet tear slowly cascaded down Bonnie's cheek. Neither of them found themselves letting go and eventually they fell asleep in each other's arms. In each other's they found a warmth that melted the pain even if it was just for now. For the first time in two weeks Bonnie didn't have nightmares, in fact she dreamt of nothing and neither did he. For both of them dreaming of absolutely nothing was the sweetest of dreams, they only wished they could have the same luxury while awake. They slept peacefully with Bonnie cuddling into him every now and then, that is until they heard a very loud knock at the door.
