After a year, I am finally giving you guys an update! Of sorts.
Okay so first off, I felt like I owe the people who still even bother to check up on this fan fiction an apology.
I'm so sorry. Really, and the only way to make up to you guys is to actually put up the finished product. I cannot promise that it will be uploaded soon, but what I can say is that all that's left is really actually writing.
The outline has been drafted, character personalities mulled over, and so on.
So as a little treat, (or just me, pretty much throwing a bone(not proud))I'm going to give a couple more details.
First, it's going to be a three-shot/three-chaptered story chronicling Alice and Oz's relationship from the former's perspective. The basic premise of the original story - Alice angsting about her lack of freedom and of a mother, is still pretty much intact. Except that she no longer is so angsty about it. I hope.
Second, other characters such as Eliot (or is it Elliot?) and Abyss(I'm calling the White Alice that for now) now has a bigger role in the story. If you've read enough noble/aristocratic/social-hierarchy kind of stories, you'll definitely know what I'm getting at with the inclusion of Eliot.
Lastly, the first three chapters of the original will be similar in spirit to the third-half of the first chapter and the majority of the second chapter.
That's basically what I feel comfortable sharing with you.
Maybe I'll just put this early prototype/draft of a certain spoilerific scenario below here... Please don't hate me for not posting a teaser of the first chapter.
It's set a bit during Alice's debut into society. No clocks, and ceremonial clothing - no tragedy of Sablier, so no stuck clocks etc.
Alice leaned on the railings of the balcony, her head resting in the palm of her hands. The marbles hanging at her side clanking in the breeze. It was peaceful, the location of her tower, and also mercifully dark that she couldn't see her face nor of the splendor that she wore.
It was her debut into noble society, and she had dutifully met all her father's guests and the visiting nobles, so she assumed it was only right that she take a moment to catch her breath.
The sea of finery and satin almost seemed endless in the ballroom and the Baskervilles stood out like a sore thumb, what with their red cloaks and intimidating aura. She was to be given her own cape when the she was of age. And by the end of the whole party, she would also be given a chain to call her partner, and be introduced to her betrothed. Such heavy burdens, she thought to herself.
It didn't help that whenever she saw a head of blonde hair she would panic, only to find out that it wasn't the person she was looking for. It was highly unlikely that she would find him there, given the nature of his birth and blood. It didn't stop her from hoping though.
Seeing his green eyes shine with happiness was something she'd kill for.
Music danced softly in the air, waking her from her reverie. The tune was bittersweet, and wrung her heart.
Lacie's tune.
She hummed along with it, savoring the feel of it on her lips.
"Alice"
It was Oz, she knew that voice anywhere.
He stood below the tower, his eyes tinted with a sad light.
"What are you doing here?"
"I... I wanted to see you"
She paused, taking the moment in.
There he was just when she was thinking about him, dressed in his best. Alone, without the seaweed head. Despite all odds, despite the secret he kept.
In was like that play she once saw. The dashing noble prince calling for his love standing on the balcony, bathed in the moonlight.
She hoped that their ending wouldn't be similar to theirs. Dead.
"I'm glad you could be here Oz."
She smiled down at him, thankful that the darkness covered the heat that rose to her cheeks.
He laughed at his feet.
"Can I come up?"
She nodded, and let the rope ladder she used often to fall to him.
He reached the balcony and sat on the railings, his eyes closed as he caught his breath.
"Are you sure it's alright or you to be here Oz?"
"It's all worth it anyway."
She gazed into the redness of his eyes, fascinated at how the green contacts could hide the deep red. How could grass hide the color of blood.
"It's going to be alright Alice, no matter what happens to me I'll always be here."
He said as he pointed at her heart.
"Don't say that Oz, it sounds sounds like you're leaving."
She gripped at his hand.
"Where are you Oz?"
He smiled bitterly.
"No where in particular."
"Why did you come here Oz, answer me, is there something you want to tell me."
She squeezed his hands, "You trust me don't you. You won't forget me like my father won't you."
His sad smile seemed as serene as earlier, it was as cool as never-changing water.
"I won't."
"Promise me."
Alice met Elliot as the last of the guests ebbed away. They softly acknowledged each other. And as Elliot slowly brought her hand and brushed his lips across her fingers, he saw the golden band encrusted with small green jewels hanging from her neck. The colors bright against the vivid red of her cloak. He gave her a knowing smile and bid her farewell.
Again, don't hate me for giving you the basic gist of the story that'll probably land in the story summary of the real story. Ehe.
I'd like to thank those who remain and remained loyal. I hope you can wait a bit longer.
To the future!
