"Amaura, Aurora Beam!" Serena ordered the rock-ground duel pokémon. She let loose a beam of swirling colors, smacking away the Tentecruel that the fisherman used, draining away the final bit of HP that the pokémon had. After rewarding her with her prize money, the fisherman congratulated her and turned back to his fishing pole.

"Done, yet?" Calem asked teasingly as Amaura gently nudged Serena with her head, asking to be returned. Serena smiled towards the newest addition to her team, and pulled out her pokéball.

"Yep." Serena said, returning her and placing the pokéball back on her belt. She and Calem continued across the sandy beach that connected Ambrette Town to Cyllage city, Serena taking every chance she could get to train her new pokémon while Calem seemed rather laid back.

"You train to much." Calem finally said.

"There's nothing wrong with training." Serena said. "It'll just mean that I'll have more of a chance to beat you!" Calem blinked, then narrowed his eyes.

"Touché, Seré, touché." Calem settled on saying. "But if I watch you battle, it means I'll be able to figure out your battle strategy and have a higher chance of counter-strategy to beat you!"

"So? Doesn't help you much if I change my strategy." Serena responded.

"Seriously though, why are you battling so much?" Calem asked. Serena paused, then with a sigh, pulled out her Halo Caster and pulled up a recent message from Shauna.

"Hey, Seré! It's Shauna! Okay, so guess what! Wait, this is a message so you can't guess..."

"Hurry up Shauna, or I'll leave without you!" Trevors voice was heard in the background.

"Sorry, 'lil T! Anyways, we're in Cyllage City right now, and I just found out that there's a boutique here! Since all I ever see you in is that red dress or that purple T-shirt and Jeans, we're going clothes shopping! No exceptions!" The message stopped at this, and Serena looked at Calem.

"My Arceus... that boy finally took her on a date!" Calem said. Serena smacked his arm playfully.

"Not the point." she laughed. "Point is that Shauna is gonna drag me to that boutique, and something tells me she doesn't exactly spend reasonably."

"On the dot. Whenever she sees something cute, she goes running for it."

"So I need to make sure I have enough money to get through this shopping spree and enough money to support myself." Serena said, tucking the halo caster away. "I mean, how unfair would it be if I ran out of money and couldn't pay for potions and stuff for my pokémon?"

"True." Calem nodded in agreement. "So very true." As their conversation ceased, the sandy beaches quickly became the cobblestone streets of Cyllage City. Serena blinked as she saw Shauna speeding up to her on a magenta pink bicycle, grinning wildly while her Togepi laughed in the basket.

"Shauna?" Serena asked.

"Yup!" she exclaimed, braking to a stop. "Hiya~!"

"Shaunee, wait up!" exclaimed Tierno as he came up to her on his orange bicycle, Trevor coming to a stop on his green one.

"Hey, 'lil T and Tiernee!" Shauna exclaimed over her shoulder. "Told you I would beat ya!"

"Nice bikes." Calem commented, studying them. "How on earth were you able to afford them?"

"We didn't!" Shauna giggled. "We won them!"

"Won...?" Serena asked. Shauna nodded enthusiastically.

"Apparently," Trevor said, peddling up beside them and quietly braking to a stop. "This city is celebrating a weeklong Seacoast Festival. It's an important tradition held every year to celebrate athletic events such as bicycling, swimming, and rockclimbing. They hold bike races where the first three participants win bikes."

"You," Calem said in disbelief. "Won a bike? In a race?"

"Well, no." Tierno said. "It was the gym leader, Grant, then Shauna, then me, then some other guys, then Trevor. Grant gave Shauna the bike coupon, whom promptly gave it to Trevor. Grant said he gave away his prize because he already had so many bikes."

"Generous guy." Serena commented, studying the bikes. "These are nice. Newest models, right?"

"Yup~!" Shauna said proudly. "OH! How about you guys join the race! It starts around two..." she glanced at her watch, and grinned. "And it's eleven now! You remember your promise Seré?" Serena laughed, then nodded.

"I remember, Shauna." she laughed. "I've been battling all day to save money for it!"

"Yays!" Shauna exclaimed. "Girls only! You guys can go, I dunno, rock climb or something!"

"My poor wallet..." Serena mumbled as she stared at her almost empty free spending half of the accessory. She shook her head, and forced a smile. "Shaunee, are you going to pay for lunch?"

"As long as you handle the tip!" Shauna exclaimed with a wink.

"Bonjour, bienvenue à Cyllage café!" exclaimed a waiter as he came up to them. Serena blinked, looking at Shauna and the waiter. Shauna grinned.

"Bon après-midi!" Shauna responded. "Nous aimerions dîner ici."

"Bien sûr!" exclaimed the waiter, grabbing some menus and smiling at them. "Puis-je vous intéresser aimez vous asseoir sur le terris, où vous pouvez sentir la brise de mer frais?"

"Ce serait super, merci!" Shauna said happily. The waiter nodded, and led them away onto a porch with sunlight filtering through, plants growing outside the walls. She and Shauna were seated at a table near the windows, and Shauna asked for their drinks. "Je vais prendre un milk-shake au chocolat, et elle va avoir le même!" she paused. "Oh, et mon ami ne peut pas parler beaucoup français. Pouvons-nous avoir un menu en anglais?"

"Bien sûr! Je vais envoyer notre serveuse parlant anglais, aussi bien!" the waiter said, walking away. Serena blinked.

"What was all that?" she finally asked.

"Oh, only helping you out!" Shauna laughed. "So, wow, you really did save up! You bought a lot!" Serena laughed, recalling the two short parkas she bought(pink and red), damaged skinny jeans, dark blue skinny jeans, and black leggings. Sitting at her feet was her same old pink purse she had since the beginning of the journey. She grinned, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Went a little overboard, didn't I?" she laughed. A waitress came by with their drinks, Serena happy to see it was a milkshake, which she supposed was what Shauna ordered. Again, Serena was happy that the waitress spoke English, and quickly ordered her meal.

"Not as bad as me!" Shauna laughed, remembering the several bulging bags sitting in her room at the pokémon center. "You excited for the race?" Serena nodded her head, sucking down her milkshake.

"I'm going to beat Calem!" she nodded determinedly.

"Calem? You should worry more about Grant!" Shauna said.

"Yeah, but Grant isn't my rival." Serena responded. "So, how was that dinner date with Trevor?"

"Oh, that? It was great!" Shauna grinned. "'Lil T is so sweet sometimes! He loves 'Lil Pina..."

"Pina?" Serena asked.

"Togepi!" Shauna said with a laugh. "Like the nickname? Good as the one for 'Lil Chester!" Serena smiled at her excitement. "Yeah, I know it may sound bad, and Trevor would be absolutely mortified if I said this in front of anyone else..." she lowered her voice to a whisper. "But he's like a dad to 'Lil Pina! It's so cute!"

"Have ever thought of, maybe, I dunno, seeing Trevor in that sort of light?" Serena asked. Shauna blinked. "Like, maaaaaybeeeeee... as a boyfriend?"

"Nah!" Shauna laughed, though Serena caught the slightest bit of pink on her cheeks. "He's so short! Shorter than me!"

"How tall are you?" Serena asked. Shauna blinked.

"Five-foot-three."

"How tall's Trevor?"

"Barely brushing five foot." Shauna laughed.

"So if I slapped some five inch heels on Trevor, would you date him?"

"Serena!" Shauna hissed, smacking her arm. "It's not like that!"

"Oh, but I think it is." Serena responded with a smirk. Shauna let out a sigh.

"How much time are you spending with Calem? I think he's rubbing off on you." Shauna said, slyly changing the subject. Serena blinked, then looked away, biting her lip. She was willing to dish it out, she realized, but terrified to take it.

"Oh look, our food is here!" Serena exclaimed as the waitress came over, placing their plates in front of them. With a nod and a 'Hope you enjoy your meal!' the waitress sauntered off to serve more customers.

Serena jogged up to Calem, frantically trying to tie her long, honey-brown hair into a low ponytail for the race while trying to keep her ball cap from flying off her head. Calem watched the scene in amusement as she finally gave up, holding the ponytail tie in her hand and running up to him with her hair flying around her.

"Hey." he said.

"Hey." Serena responded, finally managing to successfully tie her hair back and out of her face. "Good evening!"

"You've been busy." Calem responded, taking in the new outfit she was currently wearing: a pink and white striped tank-top, torn up denim shorts, pink sneakers, and a pink logo cap similar to her black one he saw her wearing recently. "Race ready?"

"Born ready." Serena responded with a smirk, adjusting her ball cap. "You changed your outfit."

"What?" Calem asked, looking at his black gym shorts and gray T-shirt. "You didn't expect me to go and wear my jeans and jacket, did you?"

"Weeeelllll..."

"Idiot!" Calem said, jokingly smacking her upside the head. "I may be a guy, but even I'm smart enough to know you don't wear heavy clothing like that when you're exercising."

"You did when you were roller skating." Serena pointed out.

"But I wasn't racing. I was trying to keep you from falling on your butt." Calem teased, flicking her forehead. Serena bit her lower lip in embarrassment, and turned away, avoiding the subject.

"Lets just choose our bikes, okay?" Serena mumbled. She walked towards the line of bikes, deciding on a deep purple bike while Calem settled on a, surprise, blue bike.

"What?" Calem asked as Serena smirked at him. "Go with the classics, that's what I always say!" Serena rolled her eyes, and they made their way to the starting line.

"Hey, girly!" exclaimed a guy who look a little older than her said as he rolled up next to her. "Did you come to race or to watch me win?"

"Race and win." Serena said confidently. The guy laughed, like he found this funny. Serena furrowed her brow, glaring at him.

"How 'bout this, girly," he said, done with his laughing. "You win, I'll show you my secret catching spot for Eevee's, I win, I'll take you out for dinner."

"Gee, tough choice. Now I kinda feel compelled to loose." Serena responded with a tight smile on her face.

"I already know where to catch Eevee's." Calem exclaimed. Serena shot him a glance, wondering if he was listening the whole time. He had a fierce glare on his face as he looked at the other biker. Serena swallowed, practically seeing electricity crackle between them. "I can show you, Seré." Calem said this stiffly, like he was restraining himself from hurting the other biker.

"Oooh, Seré? Is that your name?" asked the guy. Serena puffed out her cheeks in irritation.

"I'm not interested." she said firmly. "I'm a capable trainer. If I want an Eevee, I can find one on my own, thank you."

"Are you rejecting me?!" he exclaimed.

"You seem surprised by that." Serena responded.

"Why on earth would you reject me?"

"I can think of a few reasons!" Calem exclaimed, raising his hand like he was a student or something.

"I wasn't asking you." spat out the other one bitterly. He turned towards Serena again. "I swear, this is your last chance. Are you seriously going to reject the second place winner of this race every year?"

"You better not be threatening her." Calem said, his voice low and laced with anger. Serena glanced at him, then turned back to the other biker.

"Second place of every year? Please, my friends won second and third place just the other day." she said. "My answer is no. Get over it." There was along pause as they prepared themselves to start pedaling for the race. The starting bell rang, the signal for bikers to start pedaling onwards.

Almost immediately, a man with strange hair that looked almost like a rock climbing wall surged forward. Serena blinked, then pedaled as fast as she could to catch up with him. He must've been Grant, the gym leader who won every time there was a race. She narrowed her eyes as he maneuvered easily through the streets. Somewhere in the back of Serena's mind, she figured he won so easily because he knew his way around the city, but at second glance, she quickly dismissed this idea. He was pedaling almost as furiously as her, and had barely broken a sweat!

Serena saw him bike straight into the ocean. Strange, she thought, but followed, realizing that they were biking across a sandbar about ankle deep in water. She smiled as the water splashed up on her bare legs.

She was just about up to Grant when a force suddenly shoved into her. As she struggled to regain her balance on the now sliding sand, she caught a glimpse of the arrogant boy from before, cackling over his shoulder as he sped ahead of her.

Then she toppled into the water.
