Calem was scared.

Surprised to hear that? Well, how else should a sixteen-year-old boy act as he stares at his female friend, sitting in a pool of water with her bike toppled over next to her, literally steaming up with rage? Serena was scary.

"This," she growled out as he hopped off his bike and grabbed hers, steadying it on the sandbar as other bikers flew past them, hooting and laughing. "Was a new outfit! I'LL KILL HIM!" Calem said nothing. He may be a teasing idiot, but he was a smart teasing idiot. He knew not to tease a pissed off woman. Hell, he knew not to talk to a pissed off woman if they were as angry as Serena. Tis law of surviving life.

Instead, he turned and held out his hand to her. She stared at it for a moment before taking it, allowing him to pull her up.

"No teasing remark?" she asked. Calem shook his head, grabbing her hat, and wringing water out of it.

"Nope." he said as the hat popped back to its original shape. He handed it back to her, and she took it, plopping it back onto her head, then took it off as the excess water continued to drip onto her head.

"He's dead meat." Serena commented, shoving the hat into her bag. Quickly, she hopped on her bike, gave Calem a quick wave over her shoulder, and pedaled off faster than he has ever seen, leaving a good trail of dust behind her. Calem shook his head, grinning.

"I feel bad for the poor guy." he said, leaning on his handlebars. "Thou doth not know the wrath of a woman with ruined clothes. Especially if that woman is Serena Saki." he let out a low chuckle at his silly voice, suddenly wishing that Serena could've been around to hear his little teasing joke. But like he stated before, he was smart, smart enough to know that you do not mess with a pissed off female. "Welp, better get going again."

And with that, Calem began to pedal on his bike like he had all the time in the world.

Serena pedaled like her life depended on it. She could care less about winning, let alone beating Grant, but she sure as hell wasn't going to loose to that jerk that pushed her into the ocean and ruined her new clothes. Finally, she caught sight of him, and pedaled faster, maneuvering swiftly around others on her bike. She smirked. All those secret bike rides along Route 110 outside Slateport with her mom was starting to pay off.

"Hey, you!" she shouted, going faster. The guy looked over his shoulder, and for the briefest moment, a flicker of fear flashed across his face, then replaced by an arrogant smirk.

"Nice shirt, Seré!" he laughed. Serena felt her cheeks heat up in rage and embarrassment. No doubt the white parts on her tank top were see through from the water exposure... And no one called her Seré except for Shauna, Trevor, Tierno, and Ca-

"You're flying, Seré, you're flying!"

"Watch me Daddy! Watch me on Dragonite!"

-Lem?

Serena slowed slightly, processing the information. A man... and her? That had to be her this time. Did her father ever take her flying? No, he doesn't have a Dragonite that she knows of. Hell, even if he did, he wouldn't let her fly on it. He barely ever let her out of the house, he was so overprotective!

"Hello neighbor!" Calem exclaimed, coming up next to her. "You're slowing down!"

"Oh?" she asked, blinking as she looked ahead, seeing others pulling ahead. "Oh crap!" she began speeding up again, Calem keeping steady pace with her.

"I have," Calem said. "A proposition to make!"

"Talk, then!" Serena exclaimed.

"Lets kick that guys ass!"

"My pleasure!" Serena said.

"I'll help you out!" Calem sped ahead of her, right behind the biker in his blind spot. Serena watched as the came upon a second sandbar, and smirked as veered to the left, using his bike tires to splatter water all over the biker who knocked her over. While the biker sputtered out curses of surprise, Calem raised his hand in a wave. "Hello, fellow biker! Wonderful weather, no?"

Serena sped past him, laughing at the other males enraged face with a hint of confusion.

"Now if you'll excuse me," Calem said turning forward. "Lovely little Seré is speeding ahead of me. As her rival, I simply cannot allow myself to loose. Onward!" and with that, Calem sped up till he was neck and neck with Serena.

"You're such an idiot." Serena laughed.

"Why, thank you!" Calem exclaimed. Serena shook her head, forcing herself to pedal faster. Calem smirked, keeping a steady pace with her. "I'm going to win, you know."

"No, I will!" Serena exclaimed. They were neck and neck, flying past other bikers who were previously laughing at them earlier. Serena saw the finish line, and let out a burst of speed, Calem right next to her. Grant had already passed the finish line, but those two were so close, they could taste it. A flash burst from her side as she skidded to a stop over the finish line. Both she and Calem were breathing heavily from the race, and dismounted their bikes to walk them to the judge.

"Who won?" Calem asked.

"Grant." the judge said.

"He means second. Who won second?" Serena asked.

"Oh?" the judge pulled up a picture, and squinted at it. "I think you did, young lady."

"What? No way!" Calem exclaimed. In response, the judge turned the picture around to show him. Both squinted, much like the judge did, Serena's bike tired was just millimeters over the finish line before Calems. Calem blinked, then lowered his head dejectedly. "Zut!"

"Zut?" Serena asked.

"Darn." Calem said.

"But you still one third, so you still get the bike, Calem!" Serena said in a reassuring manner.

"But I'm you rival! How am I supposed to call myself that if I can't even beat you?" Calem asked. Serena rolled her eyes.

"It's just a silly bike race. Besides," she looked over at the biker whom pushed her over. "At least you beat him." The biker shoved past them, and not-to-subtly, Calem said the word 'conasse' while covering it with a not to convincing cough. The biker turned and shot him the iciest glare imaginable, and then turned back to the judging table. Serena blinked. "What did you call him?" Calem smirked, turning his head to look at her.

"A very vulgar word that begins with an 'a' in english." he said with a smirk. Serena blinked.

"How can you keep such a straight face while saying something like that?"

Again, Calem simply shrugged.

Serena suddenly found herself thankful for the shopping trip that was provided by Shauna.

Changing out of her wet clothes, stiff from the salty seawater, and promising herself to wash later, she put on the short pink parka, the dark blue jeans, her pink sneakers sneakers and her pink ball cap. She nervously glanced down over her shoulder and gulped, her pink bag dangling from her shoulder as she hopped over the next couple of spaces, and landing on solid ground.

She rounded a corner, taking her sweet time to lean over the railing guarding her from completely jumping into the waterfall(a waterfall!) that crashed into a clear turning pool underneath her. Letting the cool water mist her face to the point of feeling refreshed, she turned, groaning at the sheer height of which she still had to climb. She really needed to start doing push ups or something to increase her upper arm strength...

She began climbing up, up, up, battling a few trainers, then climbing again. Finally, she hauled herself over the final ledge, and raised her hands in the air at her own little victory. Finally, at the top!

"Hey, you're the girl who came in second at the bike race, right?" Serena glanced up, and saw Grant looking down at her. She got up, smiling, and nodding her head.

"That'd be me. Serena Saki." she said. Grant grinned.

"I've been waiting in eager anticipation! What have I been waiting for? For another worthy challenger to appear!"

"Another?" questioned Serena. Grant nodded, closing his eyes, as if remembering the battle.

"It has been filtering through the league that the highly esteemed Leaf Green is traveling through Kalos. Have you heard the rumors, that she and her three fellow dexholders are journeying through this country?"

"Heard it? I've met all of them but Leaf!" Serena laughed. Grant raised his eyebrows in surprise, then shook his head.

"I'm not surprised. You are Prof. Sycamores pupils, after all." he opened his eyes, a curious glint shining in them "It's quite an achievement to have climbed all the way up here. Very impressive, actually! I have a feeling that our battle will turn out to be worth the wait! I hope you'll show me that your skill as a trainer surpasses even the great Leaf Green!" with those words, he sent out an Amaura, similar to the one she had recently received. She mused over her choices for a minute, the smirked.

"Squirtle, lets go!" she exclaimed. "Water Gun!"

"Amaura, freeze it!" exclaimed Grant as he pointed at the small jet of water. Amaura released its attack, freezing the water in place, startling Squirtle into cutting off the jet. The frozen water fell to the ground, shattering. "Aurora Beam!"

"Withdraw into your shell, Squirtle!" Serena exclaimed. Squirtle popped back into his shell, the colored beam completely useless against the hard barrier. Grant smirked slightly, and Serena rose an eyebrow, noticing this. What was her opponent planning? "Round!" Serena immediately clamped her hand over her ears as the unharmonized rounds of music burst into the air. Squirtle was practically shrieking as the sounds echoed in his shell, the shell bouncing this way and that as Squirtle tried to figure out which way was up.

"Squirtle, use Rapid Spin!" Serena exclaimed. Squirtle, currently stuck in his own shell, spun at a rapid pace, faster and faster, then flying in a random direction. He did a u-turn and slammed into Amaura, then confidently able to pop his head and limbs out of their respective holes. "Good job, now use Water Pulse!"

"Thunder Wave!" exclaimed Grant. Crackling electricity formed around Squirtle, paralyzing him, causing him to cut the attack short. Serena ground her teeth together at this.

"You're just doing everything in your power to get him out of the way, aren't you?" Serena asked. Grant merely smirked. "Squirtle, Rapid Spin!"

"Amaura, Ice Shard!"

"Use water pulse, Squirtle!" Serena exclaimed. "Do in your shell, okay?" WIth a cry that echoed within the confined space, Squirtle began using the move, the water pulsing from the five holes in his shell, making a whirlpool around him. Serena grinned triumphantly as he slammed into the rock-ice duel type, knocking it back. With a cry of pain, Amaura fainted, falling gracefully to the ground. Grant tilted his head to the side curiously, returning the pokémon to its pokéball. Serena did the same with Squirtle, knowing that under the paralysis he was in no condition to fight.

"Tyrunt!" Grant exclaimed, tossing out the pokémon. "With this one, we'll climb to victory!"

"Unlikely. Ralts, time for a battle!" Serena shouted, sending out the fairy-psychic duel type. Ralts looked up, determination to win on her features, though she was slightly scared of the menacing pokémon in front of her. Look at those jaws! They could surely snap a pokémon as small as she with a single clamp. "Confusion!" Ralts swallowed, then let out a small burst of psychic energy towards the Tyrunt. It barely flinched at her futile attempts.

Serena swallowed as Ralts attempted to unleash a stronger Confusion upon Tyrunt. She could sense the little one's fear, it was practically radiating off her. The trainer, however, ground her teeth together and clutched her fist.

"Ralts, don't be afraid of it! You're doing fine, just fine, okay?"

"R-Ralts!" Ralts exclaimed her name in slight confidence, though still stuttered over it. Grant smirked.

"Tyrunt, Bite!" Grant ordered. Ralts, not fast enough to dodge the charging beast, shrieked as the jaws clamped painfully around her arm.

"Ralts! Ralts, you're okay, I promise! Calm down, please, Ralts!" Serena exclaimed. But Ralts did not listen. All she could focus on was how horrible the bite hurt, and how the Tyrunt seemed to be moving its jaws around purposefully to cause more pain. Tears brimmed around her eyes, and for a moment, she let them fall. Suddenly, though, the small pokémon felt a wave of energy. She glanced down at the pink and green stone that hung neatly from a silver chain. A gift from her trainer. What did she call it? Gardeviorite? It was supposed to make her stronger than ever... when she became a Gardevoir...

Serena blinked as Ralts suddenly wrenched her arm free and jumped back. Standing determinedly in front of her trainer, Ralts suddenly started glowing. The light enveloped her until she suddenly became a Kirlia. Serena felt herself smirk happily at her pokémon.

"Kirlia! Magical Leaf!" she shouted, pointing at the Tyrunt for emphasis. With a graceful pirouette, Kirlia released the colorful barrage of leaves onto her opponent. And with that, Kirlia, with her newfound confidence, won her trainer the Cliff Badge.
