"Oh, wow!" Serena exclaimed as they walked inside Reflection Cave. "I've never seen anything like this in other regions!"

"Pretty, huh?" Calem asked as Serena admired her reflection in the mirror-like stone in the cave. "There's a lot of places like this in Kalos, you know."

"Really?" Serena asked excitedly. "'Cause this is amazing! The mirrors are so clear!"

"It's called Reflection cave for a reason, Seré." Calem laughed. "Now if you keep on staring at yourself, we won't actually get through the cave! We'll be stuck here in the dark!" Serena rolled her eyes, coming up next to Calem, crossing her arms behind her back.

"I never actually thought that I'd get to travel around a region, you know?" Serena said, grinning. Calem blinked.

"Really?"

"Sure. Back when I was ten, we were moving to Slateport. I remember because on the boat ride, it was my birthday, and we passed by Pallet Town, Kanto. Thousands upon thousands of balloons were flying through the air! It was beautiful, I tell you!" she smiled. "I'll always remember that moment. Anyways, my dad was always super strict, you know? He wouldn't let me go on a journey even when I was at the legal age."

"Fourteen, now." Calem said. "They passed the law a little over five years ago, what with all the evil organizations popping up here and there."

"Yup." Serena responded. "Once I reached the legal age, we were in Unova. Dad said no." she paused. "Then my Mom and Dad separated, and we moved here, where my mom finally gave me the okay to go on a journey." Calem chuckled.

"You wanna know why I started my journey two years late?" he asked, turning around, walking backwards, so that he was facing her. Serena smiled.

"Why?" she asked. Calem grinned.

"Once upon a time, there was a young, nine-year-old boy named Calem. He lived in a tiny town with a seven-year-old girl named Shauna. Two years younger than Calem. About two years later, Calem and Shauna went to Lumiose city to see Leaf Green get crowned champion of Kanto. We wanted to see it on the big Lumiose City screens, you know?"

"I'm aware." Serena said, remembering the campaigns on the buildings.

"Anyways, we met Tierno and Trevor, who was eleven and ten, respectively." he turned back around to begin walking forward again. Serena could see his grin in the mirrors. "We were both completely lost, no idea where we were. Turns out, both of them were lost too!" he laughed. "Anyways, we ended up talking and talking, and found out that both were native to Lumiose. We became fast friends, and every other weekend, me and Shauna would get our parents to hike up to Lumiose to see them, while Trevor and Tierno convinced their parents to do the same! Eventually, Tierno moved down to Aquacorde, so me and Shauna could play with him more."

"What happened to Trevor?"

"Oh, he stayed in Lumiose, but he still came down with his parents everyone once in a while. When he turned thirteen, he became a part-time assistant for Prof. Sycamore, where he received Corphish for Tierno and his Flabébé. Soon, it become more often that we went to visit him instead of him visiting us."

"Then Shauna got mad, right?" Serena asked, recalling Sycamore's tale when she first met him.

"Well... mad isn't quite the right word. More like irritated." he grinned. "So she went and convinced Trevor to give us a pokémon, but there was a problem. While Tierno and I were fourteen, Trevor was thirteen, and Shauna was twelve."

"So Trevor and Shauna was under the legal age." Serena mused.

"Yes. But since Trevor was Sycamore's assistant, the good 'ole professor was able to pull some strings."

"Leaving Shauna." Serena said.

"Yup. So Trevor argued that he wasn't gonna leave Shauna behind, slapped his ID on Sycamore's desk, and turned to go home. Of course, me and Tierno obliged by the same ruling, waiting two whole years until we could celebrate Shauna's fourteenth birthday, about a month before you came." Serena blinked.

"So why wait a month for me?" he turned around at this, and tapped her on the nose with his forefinger.

"It's not fun to start a journey all alone. Even if you start traveling with the most self-centered, pompous asshole... It's still better than being alone!"

"Sound s like you're talking about Gary Oak." Serena said, batting his hand away as she remembered tales of the boys former jerkish ways. "Honestly, you're never, ever alone no matter what! You always have your pokémon, right?" Calem blinked, then shook his head.

"I never thought about it like that." he admitted. "But I get why you think like that, though."

"What? Why so?"

"Don't you remember? You told me that your dad was super strict and your only friends for a long time were pokémon." Serena blinked, then laughed.

"Didn't expect you to even remember that!" she exclaimed. "So which way do we have to go to get out of this cave?"

"Huh?" Calem asked. "I thought you were keeping track!"

"You're the native Kalosian here!" Serena shot back. Calem held up his hands in mock surrender.

"We're both at fault!" he said. "Lets see where we are, first." he looked around, a small grin on his face. Serena shook her head, but smiled as well.

"Maybe we should try to call someone or check the map on the Halo Caster?" she asked. Calem nodded, pulling out his Halo-Caster. He blinked for a moment, shook it, then held it up in the air above his head.

"No signal." he stated. "And the map only shows a yellow line that states that we are in Reflection Cave."

"So we're lost." Serena said. Calem turned.

"Completely!" he grinned.

"So what's our best bet?" Serena asked. "Walk back the way we came and hopefully come across a place we recognize?"

"Sounds good!" Calem said. He turned to the mirror, thinking, then placed his hand against it. "I have an idea, though." he grabbed a pokéball from his belt and tossed it in the air. Serena blinked as two possessed swords popped out, crossing over each other. "Doublade, scratch this mirror here, but only a little, okay?" Doublade nodded, using it's blades to make a five inch tall X on the reflective surface. "There!" Calem grinned. "Now if we know we've been here!"

"Smart Calem." Serena laughed. "And here I thought there was nothing but jokes in that head of yours."

"Oh, Serena, how you wound me." Calem said with a dry smile.

"See!" Serena exclaimed, pointing to an X. "I told you we were through here before!"

"Uh... heh heh... Whoops?" Calem said, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.

"Great! We're even more lost than before!" Serena sighed, irritated.

"No worries, no worries!" Calem said, waving his hands back and forth. "Maybe we'll have a signal now..." he trailed off as Serena showed her the Halo Caster screen.

"No signal." she said. "Still!"

"We really are lost, then..." he trailed off. "Then lets check the map and see how close to one of the exits we are. Once we determine that then maybe we can go back to the beginning and start over or find our way to the exit."

"Or maybe we could just ask that person coming towards us." Serena said, raising her hand in a wave. "Excuse me! We're kinda lost! Do you know the way out?"

The person go closer, and they realized it was a woman around twenty years old, her long brown hair reaching her lower back. She was dressed in simple travel clothes; jeans, a long-sleeved cutoff black turtleneck, a green shawl, and brown boots with straps around the ankles. Two belts with small bags hung form her waist.

Her green eyes looked at them, face void of any emotion whatsoever. She glanced at the small X on the mirror-like surface, eyes lingering on it for a moment. Slowly, her gaze went back to them, or more specifically, Calem's Doublade.

"We made the X marks to know we went through the area. It seems we got more lost." Calem laughed. The woman blinked, as if understanding. "Do you know the way out?We have to get to Santalune City?"

"..." she didn't say anything, simply turned on her heel, and began walking forward. Serena and Calem blinked. Were they supposed to follow or was she simply ignoring them? She paused a little bit ahead of them, and looked over her shoulder, as if asking them why they were still waiting.

"Oh!" Serena exclaimed. "Right! Sorry!" she began to jog to catch up with the woman, Calem returning Doublade before coming after her. The woman said nothing as they caught up, simply turning back around and walking. The two trainers knew this signal was for them to follow her. They turned some corners, walked a little bit, then went up a staircase. Then the trio saw a cave, and two of the three exited, relieved.

"Thank you!" Calem said, waving.

"..." the woman stared again.

"Uh..." Calem said. "Are you deaf?" she shook her head. "Mute?" again, she hook her head.

"So you're just the silent type, right?" Serena asked. The woman closed her eyes and lowered her head slightly. A nod. "That's cool too!"

"Care to say your name?" Calem asked.

"..."

"Or... not... That's fine! Are you taking the league challenge? Or are you a traveller?"

"..." she turned her hip slightly, showing them six worn down pokéballs on her belt.

"So you're a trainer!" Serena said happily. "We are too! We should battle next time we meet! Does that sound good to you?" she lowered her head and smirked, shaking her head. "No? Why not?" The woman lifted her head, smirking, as if she found the request slightly amusing, then crossed her arms, glancing at Serena's badges, dangling from her Halo-Caster strap.

"Santalune City has a gym, right?" Calem asked. "If we win the badge, will you battle us?" she shook her head again. "What do you want then? All the badges?" again she shook her head.

"Geez, you're acting like we need the strength of the Champion to battle you!" Serena exclaimed. The woman smirked again, nodding. "W-Wait... you want us to beat the league...?" she nodded again.

"Well, that's our goal anyways!" Calem laughed. "You must be strong to think you can take on the champion, lady!" she rolled her eyes, then smirked.

"We didn't get to introduce ourselves yet, did we? This is Calem!" Calem grinned and raised his hand in a half wave. "And I'm Serena!" she held out her hand for a handshake, and was surprised to see that the woman accepted the handshake. She supposed it was common courtesy, when it felt like a bolt of lightening shot through her brain.

"Mama! Mama, Gary is coming over with Fire! Can I take Seré to go get Dayna?" a seven-year-old girl asked a woman with honey colored hair. Her eyes were shaded over, but she turned and smiled.

"Of course! Just don't go into the tall grass, okay? It's dangerous!"

"I know, Mama!" the girl said as she turned to a small two-year-old. "C'mon Seré! We're gonna see Dayna and Fire and Gary!"

"Na-na?" she asked, grinning.

"Yep! We're gonna see Na-na!" laughed the girl. She took her hand and pulled her up, and then turned towards the door, waving over her shoulder. "Bye Mama!" They walked out the door and went to a nearby house. They knocked on the door, and a small, beaming girl opened up, blond hair pulled up into a short ponytail.

"Leaf!" she exclaimed. "Where're we going today?"

"Dayna!" exclaimed a rather short man only a little taller that Dayna. "I told you not to open the door by yourself.

"Aaaaaw, Uncle Wilson, it's okay!" Dayna exclaimed. "We both knew Leaf and Serenity were coming, so it's fine!" Wilson's serious face softened, then he laughed. Serenity peeked cautiously from behind Leaf, looking up at the adult.

"Hey there, 'lil tyke!" he said. Serenity buried her face into Leaf's dress, clutching the fabric in her fingers. "Still shy, eh?"

"Yeah..." Leaf laughed. "C'mon, we've gotta go meet with Fire and Gary!" they ran off, Serenity stumbling every so often, clutching Leafs hand as they ran up to a boy with close cut black hair and a boy with spiky chestnut hair. "Hi guys!"

"Leafy, you brought your sister again." the chestnut hair boy said.

"Oooh, be nice! She's fun!" Leaf glared.

"Where are we gonna play this time?" Dayna asked.

"The forest!" Serenity exclaimed. "I wanna play in the forest!"

"Aw, Seré..." Leaf said. "We can't go in the forest."

"Why?"

"'Cause only the big kids with pokémon can go in the forest!" Gary said arrogantly. "I'm going to get a pokémon from my Grandpa."

"I'm big!" Serenity exclaimed. "I'll be just fine on my own! I don't need anyone to lead me around!"

Serena blinked as Calem tapped her on the shoulder.

"Yo, Seré. You're gripping her hand pretty hard." Serena looked down and saw that her hand was squeezing the woman's hand so hard that she was sure she was turning the tips purple. She ripped her hand away, apologizing profusely.

"I-I'm sorry! I didn't m-mean to! I'm not sure what came over me it's just really weird." the woman's hand fell to her side, flexing her fingers slightly before going still. "I-I-I-" Serena swallowed, then started over. "I'm sorry." the woman blinked, then turned her head to the side, staring off into the distance. Then she simply turned and walked away.

Serena lowered her head, ashamed and embarrassed as she tried to decipher this flashback. Leaf. Dayna. Gary. Fire. Three of the Kanto dexholders she met recently and the Kanto champion. Serenity. She's heard countless tales of the missing girl. Every since Leaf became famous, she has too. It must have just popped up in her mind as she shook the woman's hand. So does that make her crazy? No, she would know if she was crazy.

"Hey, don't be sad." Calem said, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You're probably just tired. The sun is nearly setting. We've been battling and traveling through that cave for a good two or three hours, on top of chasing down and being attacked by Team Flare grunts." Serena smiled.

"You're probably right. I am exhausted." she said.

"Prof. Sycamore wanted us to visit someone here about Mega Evolution. You're not the only one who made a call before going into Reflection Cave." he grinned. "He called, but I didn't expect the cave to take all day! We'll check into a pokémon center and rest up before all that.

"Mmmm... Maybe was should do some early morning training before challenging Korrina."

"Sounds good!" Calem said. "We'll call Tierno, Trevor and Shauna as well, see how close they are." he grinned. "We'll go see this guy all together!"

"Yeah..." Serena said.

"Maybe we'll even run into Gary and Dayna and Fire. Maybe even Leaf! Wouldn't that be cool?"

"Amazing." Serena nodded, trying to keep up with his chipper mood. She was having trouble, though, since she was seriously having trouble figuring out if she was delusional or not.
