Chapter 18

Dean paced the cage, hyperventilating, thinking of what Crowley had in store for him. His breaths felt heavy in the air around him and he shut his eyes tight, hoping it would all go away.

"There's no escape just by closing your eyes," a voice next to him said. "Trust me I've tried."

"Well," Dean looked over at his neighbor. "Aren't you the eternal optimist?"

"Look I've been here for many years," the angel shifted closer, clearly an Alpha. He had a nice physique, chiseled cheek bones, muscles, he looked well fed unlike the other angels in the mill. He still had that sad, beaten down look in his eyes though. He had hair that was brown and cut very short. He had brown eyes and a cut leading from his chin to his lip. He also had what looked like bite marks all over his face and shoulders. He looked weathered, as if he'd seen a lot. "And I've seen it all. I've seen young, healthy, Alphas like us. I've seen them turn into monsters overnight, all from one fight. There's no escape…"

Dean almost gave up hope after he said that.

"Unless," the other Alpha said. "You know the way."

Dean turned towards the Alpha in the cage next to him and he cocked his head to the left. He crawled closer; the other Alpha did the same.

"There are so many Alphas," the other Alpha whispered. "So many Alphas who want out, they'd do anything to get out of here. Sometimes they go to drastic measures, but mostly they just know how to fight. Me being one of them, but there's a multitude of others. You need to know how to fight to survive and I can teach you just that."

Dean contemplated what to do. On one hand he didn't know who this Alpha was, not many were to be trusted in the world of mills. On the other hand, this Alpha looked tough. He looked like he knew what he was talking about. He looked as though he could help Dean, get him out of there.

Then Dean thought of Castiel.

And he shook on it.

"Deal," Dean reached through the bars of the cage and took the other Alpha's hand. "My name's Dean by the way."

"Dean," the other Alpha nodded. "Strong name, you'll do just fine. My name is Gadreel. Welcome to the rest of your life."

Dean swallowed hard, scared, but he didn't let it show.

On the other side of town at Harvelle's Pet Shop, Jo, Ellen, and the others watched the cameras that were scattered all around Crowley's Mill. The various Omega and Alpha angels behind them watched just as intently. Especially Castiel, he had eyes fixed on the area where Benny had dragged Dean. Castiel's wings twitched nervously as he stared.

"Where'd you get the access to these cameras from Ellen?" Sam asked, always the curious one.

"Our friend Ash," Ellen explained, sipping her coffee. "He's a hunter as well, but a tech savvy one at that. He's hooked us up to the central system of all the mills in the area. Somehow he tapped into their security system and left the mill owners none the wiser. He's sort of the hunter network resident genius."

"Fascinating," Sam remarked. He'd always been interested in technology. Gabriel found himself starting at Sam. He studied the quizzical look on Sam's face. It was a look of whimsy mixed with a small smile that Gabriel found irresistible. Sam turned his attention to the short Omega and lifted his eyebrow. He was wondering just why Gabriel was staring at him. "What?"

"Nothing," Gabriel looked away quickly, feeling embarrassed that he was staring at somehow so unattainable anyway. Sam kept looking at him. "Damn Sammy I mean I know I'm a hot piece of ass, but there's no need to keep staring."

"Just returning the gesture." Sam blushed slightly at what Gabriel said.

"If you two," Castiel snapped. "Would stop flirting for two seconds and keep your eyes on the cameras that would be most appreciated."

Sam and Gabriel both turned to look at the back of Castiel's head and were shocked at the Omega's bluntness. Sam shrugged, but Gabriel put his hand on Castiel's shoulder and continued to speak.

"Castiel, brother," Gabriel said. "It's ok…"

"Ok," Castiel spun around, livid and wide eyed; his wings rose above his head. "Oh it is far from ok Gabriel, my Dean, my mate, my…everything just walked head first into an Angel Mill and you expect me to ok?! I'm far from it! Now, I just want him home! I want him safe and I certainly don't need to hear anything from you! You couldn't possibly understand! You don't even have a mate! Now leave me alone!"

Gabriel backed up slowly, tears pricking in the corners of his eyes, and his wings lowered submissively. Gabriel then turned and ran out of the Pet Shop's front doors. Castiel huffed and turned back around, facing the computer screens. Sam bit his lip then hesitantly, but surely ran after Gabriel.

The little fledgling crawled out from his resting place next to his mother and right into Adam's ankle. Adam jumped a little in surprise, but then once he found out what had caused his alarm he simply smiled and felt an incredible rush of happiness. It was the same fledgling that had introduced himself to him before.

"Hello," Adam said, softly for he looked over to see that Ezra was still asleep. "Your mama won't like you wandering off like that."

The fledgling only cocked his head at Adam, looking up at him with wide amber eyes and his finger tucked into his fist, but resting in his mouth. He had his mother's hair; God only knows who his father was. Probably some stud Alpha who didn't even deserve to know the fledgling existed.

What was Adam thinking? When had he gotten so maternal all of a sudden?

"You're precious aren't you Luke," Adam found himself saying. "You know that? I'm sure you do or else you wouldn't keep throwing yourself at my feet and giving me that look."

The fledgling of course didn't reply, he didn't know how to talk yet, but his smile was answer enough for Adam. Adam chuckled and gently picked up and held Luke in his arms. He rocked him back and forth. Luke's eyelids started to droop. He yawned and Adam's smile grew. Unknown to him, Ezra cracked his eyes open from the blanket. At first alarm shot through him at the thought of an Alpha holding his baby, but when he realized who it was and just how well Adam was doing with Luke, he relaxed a bit. He watched contently for awhile until the Omega's eyes closed and he fell back asleep.

"Gabe," Sam strode after a pissed off Gabriel as he tried to make some distance between him and the pet shop. Sam touched him on the shoulder. "Cas didn't mean it…"

"Go away Sam." Gabriel shrugged him away. He hid his face, which was contorted and his eyes were squeezed tight. He was trying not to cry.

"Gabriel," Sam spun him around, forcing Gabriel to face him. "Listen to me, Cas didn't mean what he said. He's just worried. We all are. So what if you don't have a mate? It doesn't mean you don't understand what Cas feels. Dean's your friend too. Hell, he's my brother, I'm just as worried."

Gabriel felt a bit better after Sam's pep talk, but as he stared into the Alpha's eyes he remembered that night when he'd followed Sam to the whorehouse.

"Yeah," Gabriel narrowed his eyes. "And some of us are too proud to admit that we want mates."

Gabriel started towards the pet shop again, pushing past Sam, hoping he'd get the hint. Sam looked at him, confused. He sighed in frustration before following the Omega back to the shop. He chalked it up to nothing more than Omega hormones. When they returned, they found Jo and Ellen staring at the computers. Jo was horrified, Ellen was pissed. On screen were two men, one obviously being Crowley and another taller and skinnier man with pale white hair and very dark, eyes. He turned away and Ellen stopped the footage when his face was perfectly the camera shot.

"This cannot be good…" Ellen muttered.

"Why," Sam asked. "Who is he?"

A teenage boy, no more than eighteen, sat in the corner of the dark and dank room. His hair was jet black and sort of shaggy; his eyes were a deep brown. His eyes were just like his father's he'd been told, not that he wanted anything to do with his old man. He wasn't exactly proud of what he did. He had fair complexion, he resembled a ghost in the winter months. He had two diamond stud earrings in each ear. He wore a maroon beanie on his head, a black t-shirt with some gothic and creepy skull design on it, dark skinny jeans and shiny black Dr. Martins on his feet. In his hand he twirled a small dagger his father had given him for defense.

He threw the dagger at the wall, it stuck in the wood. Kevin Tran, the angel in the corner, jumped in shock. He wasn't sure why he wasn't used to the boy's antics by now. Kevin sat, chained to the wall with metal and a collar around his neck. His brown wings were folded behind his back. He sighed and rolled his eyes, arms crossed, and shoulders rigid.

"Your daddy won't like it," Kevin spoke up. "If you leave more holes in the wall."

"Did I ask you," the boy replied. "Besides you know dad's rule. You're not allowed to talk to me."

"Since when have we ever followed that rule Ron?" Kevin replied.

Ron stood, facing the angel. Kevin was an Alpha, one of his father's finest, so his naturally dominant personality clashed with Ron's daily. Ron came closer to the Alpha, staring him down. He would've gotten closer, had his father not bust through the front door.

"Ron," he said. "What are you doing bothering my angels?"

"I'm not," Ron gritted his teeth and faced his father. "He sassed me so I was putting him in his place. Reminding him who he was talking to."

"That's my boy." His father smirked, that smirk made chills run down Ron's spine though; he wanted anything but to be "his boy".

Ron's father, Charon, was one of the last "Fathers of The Dark", as they were called, left in the area. Fathers of the Dark were the leaders of illegal angel fighting rings throughout the world. They made deals with "Demons" at their mills to use some of their angels in their fights. Or better yet to fight against their angels. Usually money was bet and exchanged between who lost and who won. Hundreds total came to see fights everywhere, but only a select few clientele congregated. The fights needed to be able to disperse fast if the police showed up. Ron was considered a "Child of The Dark" because he was in training to take over for his father when he died and keep the ring going. A job he despised with all of his life.

"You must've scored," Ron replied, not meaning to sound bitter. "Do tell what her name was?"

"His name," Charon stepped closer. "Is Crowley and he has generously agreed to fight one of his angels against mine on Friday night. This is a mill owner Ron, we would make money. Serious money."

"Oh joy," Ron replied. "And I suppose I get to go watch?"

"Damn right you do," Charon laughed excitedly, grabbing his wallet and heading for the door again. "I tell you Ron one day it's going to be you making those legendary deals!"

With that, Charon walked out of the door, slamming it behind him. Ron waited until his car's engine died away in the distance and he was long gone. Ron looked over at Kevin and paced in front of him.

"I wish I'd been born with different genes…" Ron sighed.

"I don't know," Kevin smirked. "Those ones look awful nice on your ass."

"You know what I mean jackass," Ron replied, but found himself smiling just a bit. "You always do know the right thing to say though."

Ron kneeled in front of the Alpha, so close they could be touching, but they weren't. Not before Ron's lips captured Kevin's. The boy cupped Kevin's cheek as he deepened the kiss and then pulled away moments later.

"My dad would kill me if he knew about this," Ron commented. "About us. This isn't the way things are done."

"Since when have you ever followed the rules," Kevin remarked. "Much less his. You know the way you feel about his job and about me. Nobody said you had to conform."

"Nobody said I wanted to either," Ron smirked, his eyes glinted with mischief. "Kev."

"You sure he's long gone?" Kevin peered over Ron's shoulder then right back to his eyes.

"Positive." Ron nodded.

"Well," Kevin smirked again and pulled Ron close, their lips inches from each other. "In that case."
