The Reality of Serenity

Calem whizzed around the corner as he scrambled up the ramp to get to Serena. Leaf's of footfalls were next to him, seemingly calm as she hurried up the tower much more gracefully than he... how she could run in those boots with the heels was insane to him, but then again, he has seen crazier things in the crowded streets of Lumiose City.
He came to the large wooden doors, guarded by at least five Team Flare grunts, all grinning wickedly as they whipped out pokéballs. Suddenly, they were enveloped by a barrage of feathers, thirty Fletchinders flying at them.
Calem hit the deck, while Leaf dodged to the left, releasing a pokémon from one of the balls on her belt. A Pikachu came from the light, spazzing out lightening bolts at the birds. Realizing what a challenge they were facing, the grunts began focusing their strength on Leaf, giving Calem the chance to sneak towards the door. He took a cautious look back at Leaf, who was staring dead-on at him. He swallowed nervously as she continued her intense stare, then she lowered her head.
"You hesitated." Leaf said, much to Calem's great surprise. He whipped around and watched as she averted her gaze from the battle, from him, as if she was content with Pikachu battling without orders. He watched the electric type glance back, and Leaf waved her hand. Calem blinked. An order... without words? "You hesitated." Leaf stated again, turning to look back at him. "This is why you are not worthy of Mega Evolution." she sent out her Slowking, glaring as she walked up to him. "Go!"
She pushed him through the door, it slamming shut behind him.

The Tale of the Withered Leaf
It was always cold up there... But the leaf can't say it minded. Mt. Silver was always horribly cold. People say that leaves are meant to wither and die on the cold mountain, surrounded in cold and ice. Leaves are meant to live on the earth below, in the Viridian forest.
But not this leaf. This leaf thrived and prospered on the lush earth below. But then the leaf gained fame as something rare and above average. After rumors went about the poor leaf, that was when she withered and died.
True, it is no longer a entity of many words, like it was before. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't talk at all. Only to it's sun. Only when it truly matters.
But the people think that is rude of the leaf. Perhaps the leaf just doesn't want to talk to them. Did the people ever think of that? The leaf didn't see the problem. Plenty of beings are quiet.
Perhaps it is because this leaf used to laugh and smile like the others before it withered?
The leaf never got many visitors upon the mountain. No one ever got through it's sun, after all, to get to the leaf. It decided when it would float back down the mountain. If one wanted to bother the leaf, it had to get through the sun. If they got through the sun and still managed to climb the bitterly cold Mt. Silver, be warned: For those who bother the leaf better have a good reason to break it out of it's cold thinking and continuos circle of monotony.
The leaf had it's own language. Very rarely did it meet someone who could speak this language. Not one of words which it knew but barely used, but it was the one it spoke the best.
So why does the leaf never talk?
The leaf awoke one day to it's mother, the withering flower, calling it's name. It came to it's mother, whom stated it was selected to journey. To leave. Honestly, it wanted to leave, but was told to go next door to see the mighty oak. There was, at the time, it's worst rival: The sun.
The leaf greatly disliked the sun. The sun was rude and arrogant. The leaf did not see the oak, but left anyways. It lingered on the edge of the forest, wondering what to do. The flower told it to see the oak, but the oak wasn't there. But something was telling it, compelling it... to step forward.
But suddenly, it cracked away, interrupted by the oak. The oak brought it back to the lab, where the sun still sat, spouting about how it was unfair the leaf got to choose first. The leaf couldn't have been more uncomfortable. But regardless, the oak gave her something. A friend. A Bulbasaur.
And nothing for the leaf... was never the same.
The oak wanted it to run an errand. But before it could go... The sun had already thrown out it's partner, a Charmander. At this point, the leaf was tired. It wanted to leave. But it didn't have a choice. It had sent out it's partner, and it's first battle ensued.
The leaf won.
The details were vivid in it's mind, even today, as it travelled around. It knew it won. And it would always remember the shock of beating the self-proclaimed 'almighty' sun.
This is how it always went when it went to battle. It beat the strongest elements, the rock, the water, the lightening... following on with the cherry tree, the psychic spoon, the poison needles and fire... ending with the almighty earth itself.
Suddenly, it was facing the champion... whom strangely, it fell in love with. As strange as it was, somehow, not only had the leaf changed, but the sun had as well. They were different... and so, so happy.
After being crowned the new champion, the leaf left to search for her sister, the dandelion that went missing and seems to be ever so fleeting out of the leaves grasp.
This was the beginning of the leaf's withering, for failure after failure stacked up. It was crying every night, for failing it's mother, the flower, for failing it's love, the sun, for failing it's missing sister, the dandelion, whom, true to a dandelion, was fleeting farther and farther away into a distance seemingly unseeable.
So the leaf stayed on Mt. Silver, where it had peace, forgot it's words, and made it's own language.
It's new language was battle. And if anything managed to find the leaf upon the cold Mt. Silver, know this and do not be offended by the way it says "Hello".

Nothing but shrieks.
Serena could feel the tears streaming down her face as she tried to block it out, Blastoise blasting away the birds in it's Mega Evolution. But every time one fell, another seemed to replace it, like the great Ho-oh reviving from ashes and coming to life again.
The very thought of the huge legendary bird caused another stab of fear to pierce her heart, more spasms of sobs wracking her frame. She felt something poking at her skin, mainly around her right wrist and arm. Slowly, she cracked her eyes open a sliver, then she shrieked in terror.
The birds... They were touching her. They were pecking at her arms!
A sound that seemed to cross between a shriek and a wail escaped her lips as she began to desperately shake her arm, trying to get them off. She scrambled away as fast as she could, stopping at the railing that kept visitors from toppling over, only to have about twenty dive bomb onto her.
Serena covered her face with her hands, curling inwards to keep them away. This only gave them the opening to peck at her pack and sides, taking tufts of her hair and tugging sharply to get her to uncurl from her fetal position.

"I'm okay... Nothin' in the big forest." something crackled in the background, and the young girl jumped, looking around wildly. She swallowed, trying to stop the tears. Slowly, she took a deep breath, then exhaled. "No. I'm going to see Papa!"
She didn't quite understand it, but she recalled her big sister taking her to this place. She said that Papa was sleeping here. She wanted to see him. She wanted... she wanted her strong Papa to wake up! To come home to sad Mama! She'll be a hero! She'll be the hero-princess who saved the king! And everyone would love her for it!
She parted through the branches, and heard a loud shriek. She glanced up, and saw a large, strange looking bird-pokémon circling overhead. She shivered slightly, then watched as the thing lowered.
It was then she ran.

"No!" she sobbed as they continued to peck at her. "No, no, no, no, no!"
"Serena!" the shout echoed over the screeching birds, and she saw a flash of blue and black rush towards her. The birds around her scattered. "Frodigeir, Water Pulse!" someone ordered as the same person wrapped something around her shoulders. She felt a hand on her shoulder, an arm around her. Blinking back into focus, she realized there was a blue sweatshirt around her frame.
Slowly, she looked up, and saw Calem glaring determinedly at the birds, his blue jacket gone, wearing black T-shirt that he had on under his jacket. She glanced at the garment around her shoulders, realizing it was his jacket. Was this some form of protection from the beaks? Or perhaps a comfort? His arm was wrapped protectively around her, hand moving to the back of her head and pushing her face into his chest.
"C-C-Calem-!" she exclaimed in surprise of his sudden appearance and his hug.
"Shh," Calem said, smiling softly at her, though loosening his grip, slightly. "You'll be fine! Not only am I fightin' for ya, but so is Shauna and Tierno and Trevor and all of our Senior dexholders! Check out your Blastoise, he looks like a badass! Look at that huge cannon! You could win any water war with that!"
Serena smiled a little, slipping her hands through the sleeves, and smile growing slightly as she realized that it fell way past her wrists. She began feeling a little better knowing that she wasn't completely alone. Having Calem and his little teasing self next to her was comforting. She blinked slightly. Didn't Calem save her from a flock of Fledgling earlier in this journey? Seems he was always saving her from birds.
"Korrina!" Calem exclaimed, standing up then helping her up. "I'm pretty sure Mega Blastoise and Frodigeir can handle themselves. Leafs inside battling more pokémon! I need you to-!" he was cut off as an explosion blasted the door open.
Smoke billowed out, and from the smoke came Leaf, flying off her feet and landing a few feet away, flat on her back. Her Pikachu jumped out of the smoke as Fletchinder's billowed out of the tower, joining the forces already flocking them.
Leaf sat up, a scowl on her face as she rubbed her lower back, then standing, crossing her arms angrily as Flare grunts approached them. Serena glanced around at the new birds, stiffening. As the dozens of birds flew towards them.
"Calem, there's nowhere to run!" Serena exclaimed.
"Crap-!" Calem growled as the birds hit, sending him over the edge first.
"CALEM!" Serena shrieked as she leaned halfway over the edge, grabbing his wrist. Calem scrambled to grab on with his other hand.
"Pull me up! Crap, crap, pull me up!"
"I'm trying!" Serena exclaimed, reaching out her other hand and trying to pull him back to semi-safety on the ground. She heard another explosion, and felt something slam into her. She let out a shriek as she tumbled over as well, somehow managing to keep an iron grip on Calem's hand.
She took a glance up, seeing Leaf cradling her Pikachu in her arms, pupils constricted considerably as she watched them fall, eyes full of one emotion that the Kanto Champion had shown the entire time she knew her.
Fear.
Her focus was cut off as she slammed into a wall, seeing that Calem was now gripping her hand, the other clutching onto a small decoration sculpted into the building.
"Calem!"
"I'm fine!" he shouted back, though he sounded strained. "Arceus-!"
"Oh my Arceus!"
"Are those kids hanging from the tower?!"
"What's with all the birds?!"
"Is this some sort of movie...?"
"The crowds getting restless... eh heh heh..." Calem chuckled. Serena felt them slip a little. "Crap. Serena, can you reach my belt?" Serena looked up a bit, reaching up and fingers hitting the devices.
"Yes!"
"Second one from the left, let out the one in there!" he said. Serena obeyed, letting the creature out, then widening her eyes in horror even though she heard the crowd below ooh and aw at the shiny pokémon. "Talonflame, take Serena!"
"No! No, that thing is not coming near me- OH MY ARCEUS! CALEM, NO!"
"You'll be okay, Seré! He's tame! He's not going to hurt you!"
"NO!"
"Damnit, Serena!" Calem cursed. "Talonflame, grab her, I'll climb onto your back!"
"Calem, I swear-!"
"Unless you feel like dying now, Talonflame's lowering you to the ground!" Calem said. Talonflame looked torn, wondering what to do. "Talonflame, as your trainer, I'm ordering you to take Serena and lower her down!" the pokémon let out a squawk, and Serena stiffened as she felt the claws wrap menacingly around her shoulders. Calem scrambled onto his back.
Serena felt a cold shot of terror go through her veins. She was so terrified, she felt like a little girl again. Something in the back of her mind snapped, and her mind went blank.

She panted heavily as she continued running from the immense bird chasing her. She had no idea where she was going, but she knew she was going anywhere but home.
She's never been so scared. If she ever had a nightmare, Papa was there to make her laugh. Mama would sing her favorite lullaby. Sister-Leaf would give her a big hug and stay with her the night.
But now she was alone.
She tripped, tears forming in her eyes as she cut her face and arms. Scrambling to get up, she shrieked as she felt something clamp onto her shoulders.
"NOOOOOO!"

"NOOOOO!" Serena shrieked as she snapped her eyes open. She heard a grunt of surprise, blinking slightly as she panted, Leaf and Calem staring over her.
"Seré!" Calem exclaimed, relieved. Serena blinked, looking around. She was... outside the tower...? On a beach?
"What on earth...?"
"We managed to get rid of Team Flare. All the Fletchinder are gone." Calem said. "Everyone else went to get their pokémon healed. Shauna, Tierno, Trevor, and Gary are getting a nurse for you. Dayna, Fire, Gurrkin, and Korrina are driving off the media."
"They didn't all have to come back..." Serena stated, going back to Gary and the others.
"They're coming back because they care." Calem smiled. "Gary's just there for control."
"I apologize." Leaf stated, standing up. "I knocked you over the edge."
"No," Serena answered, sitting up. "No, we were in the middle of a chaotic battle, and I was utterly useless. How could you blame yourself?" There was a pause as a loud screech echoed through the air. Calem looked up, noticing his Talonflame, and cursing his own stupidity for not searching for the birds pokéball sooner. But Seré's wellbeing was more important...!
But it was to late. Serena's pupils shrunk in fear at the sound of the bird.
"No." she stated, scrambling back, accidentally hitting Leaf. "No, no, no!"
She scrambled up, turning to run but slamming into Leaf, whom instead of seeming angry or annoyed, a different emotion appeared on her face. A look of nostalgia then shock crossed her features.
"No! I'm sorry, but I... I can't!" Serena exclaimed, bolting away, slamming past Gary and the others as they rushed up to them.
"Oh! Dear!" Nurse Joy exclaimed, chasing after Serena. Gary blinked, walking up to them.
"Soooo what's that about?" he asked.
"I need to find Talonflames pokéball..." Calem said, glancing around. Immediately, Shauna, Trevor, and Tierno jumped in to help him search. While the two adults watched the teens search for the device, Leaf leaned over, whispering something to Gary. He widened his eyes.
"Really? Are you sure?"
"It's the closest feeling thus far... I don't know, but I can... I just have a feeling."
"I see." Gary beamed at the small smile of absolute happiness on Leafs face. Maybe he'd be offering that ring sooner than he originally thought...
"Got it!" Shauna exclaimed, holding a pokéball up in the air. Calem grinned, accepting the device from the younger girl.
"Honestly, though, Leaf," Gary mused. "We'll need some more help in order to prove your theory..." Leaf blinked, her gaze following his to the four teens. "Yo, kids!" Gary shouted. The four snapped their attention to him, and walked over. "Listen, we've got a... well, predicament." he grinned. "How would you like to help your Seniors, eh?"
