Chapter 27
Jody had called with the official report. The force had found Crowley's car at the bottom of the river. Apparently he and his getaway associate Ruby had decided it was a great idea to run it off of the bridge and to their deaths. Bobby had remarked on it as a coward's way out, but Jody was just happy it was a means to an end. She'd cracked the biggest case in the history of police force of their city and it was congratulations and smiles all around for her. The people doing so though did not know the back story as to how they did it though and Jody figured if they did they'd see it as inhumane. So she kept it quiet.
Sam felt terrible about it all. Ruby had clearly been led astray into Crowley's world and he couldn't blame himself for that, but if he'd just kept his damn mouth shut she'd never have known and they'd never have gotten away. Granted they were both dead, the medical examiner had confirmed both of the bodies in the car were theirs, but Sam felt responsible for the citywide police chase that had been going on until they'd pulled the car from the river. What hurt the most was what Gabriel had said to him as they were pulling away from the confusion at the mill. Gabriel had called him trash. Sam had never been called that in his life. He'd sure felt like it before though, the night before especially. As he stood in the back of the pet store which was overlooking a rather large field, he thought about the events of the night before and started to get angry at himself. He kicked a few rocks and yelled before flying over into the middle of the field. Sam started to cry. He hadn't cried in a long time, but now felt appropriate. He'd lost Gabriel, his only potential mate or really the only one he'd really wanted. He'd lost his reputation among the members of the pet shop and above all he'd lost his dignity. Sam did the only thing he could think to do and that was to lay down and wrap himself in his wings. Part of him secretly hoping he'd curl up and die.

Sam was roused from his sleep. He felt as though he'd gone into some nether region of mental thinking while he was out, but the sky came into view and the dots behind his eyes were no longer blurred. He saw a familiar pair of golden eyes and locks of equally golden hair that fawned out and cascaded down the cheeks of the Omega standing over him.
"Get your ass up," Gabriel rolled his eyes. "You're being melodramatic."
"I'm the one being melodramatic huh?" Sam asked as he got to his feet slowly, testing the waters with Gabriel ever since the incident back at the mill.
"Well considering you fell asleep out in the open where any old wild Alpha could have come along and tried to dominate you, yes."
"You were worried about me." Sam pointed out.
"You're kind of needed." Gabriel replied cryptically. He didn't want to set off Sam's 'a-okay' alarms yet. He remembered what Castiel had told him and how Sam would have to earn his courtship. Part of Gabriel wanted to run into Sam's arms and spill all of the things he'd kept bottled up inside, but the stronger part of him heeded to Castiel's advice and stood his ground. The Alpha had to learn somehow.
"By Ellen and Jo," Sam inquired, staring into Gabriel's eyes which he could tell were trying hard to mask the pain. "Or by you?"
"Take that how you want to," Gabriel still tried to maintain his façade. "All I know is all of us, myself included, don't need you getting attacked by some feral Alpha. Not when we have bigger problems to deal with."
"Fine," Sam stood, a small smile making its way across his face. He knew Gabriel was worried about him, but wouldn't admit it. As much as he hated the words Gabriel had said to him outside the mill he knew they were just words and they could be mended. It would just take time. "I'll sleep inside. I believe the couch is where I've been banished to?"
"You have a room." Gabriel reminded him.
"Last time I checked we were sharing one," Sam replied. "You staked a claim before me. Therefore it's your space and I won't invade it."
"Unless I don't mind," Gabriel sighed, he was trying so hard, but damn it was difficult with Sam's hazel eyes staring right into his very being and softening him up. "Look Adam had the couch before now, just let him keep it. You can stay in my room, but there's ground rules first. I'm still mad at you."
"Fine," Sam nodded. "Lay em on me."
"Stay on your side of the bed," Gabriel instructed halfheartedly. "No cuddling, no spooning and no cutesy nicknames of any kind. That includes 'Gabe' got it?"
That one hurt the most. Gabriel had grown rather fond of the nickname Sam had given him.
"Got it Gabriel," Sam said it with such ease, like honey was flowing over his tongue when he spoke. "I'm gonna go now. If you wanna join me you can."
"Sam," Gabriel sighed at his thoughts. "I'd love nothing more..."
Gabriel didn't voice those thoughts aloud. He simply followed Sam inside of the back door of the pet shop.

Adam wasn't on the couch though. He was watching over a sleeping Ezra once again and his angel pups, which were due to leave him soon and start up residence in the pet shop itself. Adam wasn't entirely sure what Ezra had planned after that, but he didn't want to ask him either. Ezra's pups were almost grown enough to be away from him and a part of Adam would miss them too. He had kept watch over the Omega for quite some time now and he found that he was growing fond of him. Adam could've even said that he loved him.
Loved? Where had that word come from? His heart jumped at the thought as he looked upon the sleeping form of Ezra. He had yet to find a mate and as a full grown Alpha when it became a certain time of the month he had urges. Not that he'd ever force Ezra to act on said urges ever again after all he'd clearly been through in Crowley's mill, but he could imagine a nice little life with the Omega wherever they were meant to end up.
"What are you looking at?" Ezra cracked his eyes open and yawned. He was tired, but Adam could tell he was sick of sleeping.
"Nothing," Adam lied and turned his head toward the door as if he was expecting someone to walk through it. "How'd you sleep this time?"
"Same as I ever do with children," Ezra looked down, calmer than usual, accounting for his babies. "On and off, but well knowing they're here and someone is watching over us."
"Oh really who's that?" Adam teased a little.
"An angel of sorts." Ezra smirked and teased back. He was coming out his shell a bit more which made Adam a hell of a lot happier. Adam blushed, his cheeks flushing red and he didn't know how to respond to the flirtatious reply. He was interrupted by the door opening.
"Adam," Ellen instructed. "Go to bed. Ezra needs his rest too and you're keeping his pups up."
"He's fine," Ezra lay back down and the pups shifted accordingly. "But goodnight Adam if you have to go."
"Goodnight Ez." The nicknamed slipped out without Adam catching it, but Ezra didn't seem to mind. He smiled in response.
Adam left and Ezra was left to sleep with his pups in tow, but in about an hour when he felt another source of warmth he smiled. He didn't even have to open his eyes to know it wasn't his pups.
