Author's Notes:

And so marks the beginning and ending of another writing year. I must say, this story has gotten pretty far. Well, actually, I have a lot more to say, but that can wait until the end of the chapter.

Like a Fat Rat

An array of colors light the sky as the sun continues to slide beneath the horizon. Weak moans can be heard beneath the stars that reign high above the heavens themselves.

Beneath the watch of the elders above them, an angel and a demon lay together. With their bodies unclothed, they each learn the body of their loved one.

"That...hurt." Is the first comment made about the two's previous activities. The demon turns and smirks at his angel lover, gently dragging a clawed finger down the angel's cheek. His mouth quirks in delight as he draws a single drop of blood.

Bakura then wraps his arms around his angel, pulling the boy closer to him while ignoring the incinerating sensation made by the contact of their skin.

"We've just committed the gravest sin." Ryou mutters; his glowing hazel eyes shining in worry.

"I don't give a damn. You're mine now." Bakura chuckles as he grabs the boy's face with his claws. He then pulls Ryou's cheeks closer so that he can kiss the delicate face, regardless of the burning sensations.

"I'm growing used to this pain. I like it. Don't you?" Bakura whispers as a snake-like tongue darts out of his mouth and licks the angel's cheek, thus removing the ruby droplets that had been accumulating on his open wound.

Ryou doesn't answer. However, his nonchalance at the burn gives Bakura the answer he was seeking.

"Come to my place tonight. There is so much more I'd like to do to you." Bakura whispers, suggestively dragging a claw down the boy's pelvic bone.

Ryou blushes as he slowly pushes his way to his elbows and stares at Bakura. Hazel eyes widen as the boy considers possible positions that the two may encounter throughout the night.

'No, bad Ryou, you are the Angel Prince. No sex for you.' The angel scolds himself. But even so, he knows his body craves the contact. The thought of Bakura caressing him, touching his most intimate areas; it might be forbidden, but it's nevertheless still his dream.

"Sure, but...no more sex." Ryou whispers the last part, his eyes closing slowly in defeat. He still has to live up to his angelic name, regardless of all the rules he had broken already.

Bakura makes a sound of disappointment, but still makes his way over to Ryou. He wraps his arms around the teen's slender waist, then leans in and starts kissing the boy's neck.

At first, the kisses are soft. However, after a while, soft nibbles are added to the kisses, and then little bites.

Ryou moans loudly, now ignoring any possibility that someone might hear them. The pleasure and pain mixing together is heavenly, perfection in every form. Like dark and light clashing repeatedly, only to find a perfect balance.

Elsewhere

"These are them, right?" A kid with mint-colored hair whispers.

Another kid with the same mint-colored hair nods as he slips down from his hiding place carefully.

"Basic maneuvers," The first child commands the group, and within a moment they are flying to the ground, crisscrossing each other until the land in a perfect circle around a green tent, obscured from the view of their prey.

"Now," the leader hisses in a hushed voice, and within a moment the flock of vampires dashes towards the three boys in the tent.

"What's going on?" The blond one calls out in surprise, but by then it is too late.

The three are quickly bound, gagged, and led out of the small living area, before being roughly shoved into body bags and carried out of their rooms. Within a few moments the chloroform on the gags kicks in, and the three are knocked unconscious.

In the Woods

"We should be leaving now." Bakura mutters, dull ruby eyes focused on the angel next to him.

"Yeah," Ryou replies, moving closer to Bakura. The angel however doesn't move much after that, except for the occasional nuzzling into Bakura's neck.

"You haven't moved yet." Bakura informs the angel. Ryou ignores his comment and sighs contently, further nuzzling into Bakura's neck.

"Don't...want to...too...tired," Ryou mumbles, his eyes closed and his body slack. Bakura sighs at this; they needed to leave. He had just been affirmed that the first part of the plan has gone according to schedule.

"What if I carry you?" Bakura asks, his eyes now a solid russet hue. He stares straight at Ryou, his entire demeanor serious.

"Sure," the pale angel mutters. "But are you also going to dress me then?" He asks dreamily. Bakura looks at Ryou incredulously. He had not just requested something like that! He could not be that tired. Did he really wear out his angel that badly?

"Fine," Bakura hisses, venom lacing the single word. Ryou simply cracks a hazel eye open and stares at Bakura, the single eye critically scanning the demon to decipher the reason for the demon's sudden change of mood. After a single moment of intense staring, Ryou closes his eye again.

Bakura lets out an exasperated sigh as he gathers his clothes and quickly throws them on. He then turns to the boy now sleeping on the ground. His mouth hangs open a bit, allowing saliva to slip out and exposing tiny, sharp fangs. A small smirk finds its way onto Bakura's lips as he realizes what this means.

Slowly, Bakura starts dressing the angel, taking his time to stare at and stroke the flawless, pale skin. He allows his claws to drag teasingly across the skin, leaving small cuts. The demon then lowers his head to the pale skin and starts licking away the droplets of blood.

A soft moan escapes Ryou's lips, causing Bakura to stop. A new question now flits around his mind. 'Should he get Ryou aroused again and have more sex?' or 'Should he leave Ryou be and focus on the next phase of his plan?'

The first question seems far more appetizing to say yes to then the second. However, the second is more important.

Bakura sighs in defeat as he starts dragging on Ryou's underwear and pants. After that, he slowly pulls on the teen's shirt, taking the time to stare at the flat, slightly muscled chest. A small chuckle escapes Bakura's lips as he stares at the chest; when had Ryou gotten muscles?

Bakura leans down and bites one last time into the pale flesh, drinking the blood that seeps through the wound. It has been too long since he has last drunk blood.

Ryou's blood is sweet, tasting like chocolate. Bakura can't help but allow himself to indulge in the delightful treat. His angel is tasty in every way possible.

Bakura quickly pulls down Ryou's shirt and lifts the boy into his arms. He makes his way to his feet and glances around the woods, taking in the litter of decaying, miniature mammals lying on the ground.

A small breath escapes Bakura's lips as his wings spread from his back. He starts running, easily dodging trees and debris lying on the ground. Once he finds a clearing, he pushes himself up into the sky, his wings spreading to their full length and flapping once to get the duo into the air. After that, Bakura flies smoothly.

The night air is cool and refreshing against the demon's skin. The oncoming wind bristles his leathery wings, relaxing the demon even more. What is there to worry about anyways? Everything is going according to plan. He can feel the shadows within the angel, tampering with his magic. Okay, maybe the demon can't, but that's how he imagines it would feel.

The moon, stars, and the bridge to the mortal world can be seen from where Bakura is flying. Artificial lights shine like little blurs in the sky, whereas the stars and the moon shine brightly, lighting the pathways between all the realms. Bakura twists in the sky and looks up to the higher plane. However, all he sees is gold and a bright light before the demon has to flip over. Instead, he searches for the lower plane.

That's where the darkest of souls live. Maybe one day, he'd be called there. If the spell placed on Ryou is strong enough, maybe his angel/demon hybrid would accompany him.

Another strong flap of his wings and Bakura crosses over into the demon half of the realm. Trees are scattered below him as he scans the area to find the remnants of the demon castle.

Once he finds the remains he takes a sharp right, and after a couple more flaps he lands right in front of a small shack.

Shifting Ryou within his arms, the demon makes his way into the shack.

Inside, the shack is old and musty. The walls are made of decaying wood, revealing rodents and insects in the crevices. Dust and debris litter the floor, so that whenever Bakura takes a step, it flies up to meet his face. The carpet smells of beer, cigarettes, and sex, three scents ever so common in the demon realm.

This place used to be bright and cheery of course, when it was still part of the Angel Realm. However, after the demons took over, it only wasted away. What was once an art shack was now even less than a common club.

Opening the trapdoor hidden beneath the debris, Bakura drops down to another carpeted floor. More dust flies up upon his contact, causing the demon to cough. Ryou groans in his arms and shifts his position a bit, curling in closer to the demon's solid chest.

"F*ck. Okay, Esperoba, Noah, did you retrieve the other angels?" Bakura calls out into the darkness.

"They're already in their chambers," a voice calls back, and the entire room brightens.

Four clear, glass tubes line one wall. Three of which have bodies suspended in some form of purplish liquid. Coming from the tubes are numerous, thick wires that lead to a central computer. A desk sits in front of the computer, a large, complicated keyboard on top of it.

Bakura cocks an eyebrow. Why are there so many human instruments here?

"What, you've never seen a computer before?" Noah asks, walking to Bakura and attempting to lift the angel from his arms, only to realize that Bakura's grip on the small being is too tight to easily lift him from.

"No, I don't like it." Bakura hisses. In response to his anger his eyes take on a red hue and his wings rise in a way that reminds one of a startled cat.

"Why not? It is just a stasis chamber for them to wait in while the transformation takes place." Noah explains however, Bakura continues to glare at the aqua-haired boy.

"How will it react to their bodies? These aren't humans, you know." Bakura hisses, holding his angel closer to his chest.

"The difference between humans, angels, and demons is their magic levels. Human magic is weak and neutral, while angels and demons of this plane have stronger, specialized magic. Besides that, we have a lot in common with humans." Noah informs, and Bakura bristles. The thought of a human and a demon being anything alike is at the very least despicable. Demons are superior to those shits of society in every way. "In fact, a witch or wizard is just a human with magic." Noah continues, but by then Bakura has had enough of this bull crap.

"Shut up." Bakura hisses as he makes his way over to the empty tube. Flinging the door open, he shoves the angel into the tube before slamming said door shut and leaving the room quickly. The tube immediately starts filling up with the purple stasis liquid.

"Fail me, and you'll regret it." Bakura hisses, not bothering to look back at Noah.

Line

"How is he?" Mai asks, cautiously entering the small hospital tent.

"As well as I can keep him." Ishizu responds, not looking up from her king.

"So, what are we going to do while the king is out of service? Do we let his son rule?" Mai asks, stepping towards the bed of the comatose king.

"No, he is unfit to rule. I say we leave the throne empty. The king will wake up." Ishizu announces, and Mai frowns. Ishizu has always been loyal to King Akio while Mai has chosen to stick with the prince.

"Why do you say that?" Mai asks indignantly. Ryou is a perfect angel by her standards. But then again, she isn't completely angel, so the angels wouldn't really listen to her opinion.

"He's a little out there. He's terrible with his magic skills. And he's too close to that Demon King." Ishizu explains, not even looking up.

Mai shrugs. How could he not be fit to rule? If he really wasn't, then his wings wouldn't be white.

"I know, as a half' n' half, you feel that intimacy between angels and demons is perfectly acceptable. But I don't think you understand the disarray it would send our realms into. It's a cute thought, but it just can't be a reality." Ishizu states.

Mai bristles, her eyes enlarging and taking on a plum color as she turns on her heel and stalks out of the tent. Damn witch thinking that she can call half-breeds abominations. It's not like she comes from a pure-blood line. Hell, she isn't even an angel!

Mai huffs as she exits the small tent. Maybe that's why she likes the prince so much more. He is open to suggestions. And while many find that trait weak, Mai has found it amazing–something that the realm needs in a king.

With a lazy smile, she makes her way towards the boys' tent turned man cave. After all, with a war raging on right outside their doors, the four boys need a place to relax.

Once she enters the room, Mai is met by Duke, who is currently cleaning the empty room.

"Where are the boys?" Mai asks. Duke simply shrugs, picking up a glass with wine it.

"Obviously, they were enjoying themselves." Duke says in a monotone voice, holding the glass to Mai.

Mai chuckles softly as she sticks her pinky finger in the wine and tastes it. "As I suspected, it's a mixture of grape juice and vodka."

Duke rolls his eyes at the other half' n' half, spreading his jade wings out before relaxing them again. "Stupid children." He mutters as Mai downs the rest of the cup.

"Anyways, back to business, do you know where the boys are?" Mai asks. Duke merely hands her a note.

"Is this where they are?" Mai asks, but Duke shakes his head.

"They are commands from the king." Duke responds.

Mai opens the small letter, which reveals a series of coordinates.

"What are these?" She asks, while Duke shrugs.

"Just follow whatever instructions are on the note." Duke informs and Mai nods, leaving the tent right afterwards. Duke smirks.
