The Forgotten One- chapter 14
A/N: trying to find inspiration, hope I do a good job. Thankyou for all the reviews R&R. Also right now aria hates Klaus but eventually they will have a brother/ sister relationship. No Elijah/Aria moments in this chapter unfortunately
Salvatore house-
"So you don't remember anything that happened?" Stefan asks a newly not possessed Alaric.
"No. It's like I blacked out and woke up 3 days later. Katherine was there. So was Aria." Alaric said looking from Elena to Elijah.
"Katherine's under compulsion. Damon snuck her some vervain, but she can't leave until Klaus tells her she can. And a witch is keeping Aria there, Bonnie tried to break the spell but the witch is stronger than she is and Bonnie is trying to lay low." Stefan says.
"Where is Damon?" Elena asks.
"I saw him go upstairs." Jenna says, Elena gets up and leaves the room.
"So what else did I do?" Alaric asks looking exhausted.
Alaric's apartment- Aria's POV
I was sitting on the brown leather couch painting my toenails a dark blue while Katherine is looking for a blood bag in the fridge.
"Did you hear that" she asks me and turns to the door, I look at the doorknob and its turning. She gets up and goes in front of the door. It opens and it's Alaric.
"Look who's dumb enough to come back." She says with her usual snark.
"Ric? What are you doing here? You shouldn't be here." I worried.
"Well, somebody had to invite him in. Damon." Damon walks around the corner. "Would you like to, uh, come in?" Alaric invites Damon in, Damon walks past the invisible barrier that keeps out vampires who hadn't been invited in, as soon as he's in Katherine rushes over to him.
"Are you trying to get me killed?" Katherine asks, Damon pushes her against the door.
"I gave you vervain, now I'm here to collect. I got it from here, Rick." Rick gives a concerned look at me that I smile softly at.
"You sure?" Damon nods.
"Yeah, only one of us needs to get blamed for this. Get back in the house. Keep Elena from handing herself over."
"Ok." Alaric leaves.
"Get blamed for what?" Katherine asks.
"I need to know where Klaus is keeping his werewolf." Damon asks, he looks over at me, "apart from you. Every evil villain has a plan B, I'm going to mess up plan B."
"And me? I'm plan A." I ask, I was not going to be sacrificed by a psycho who wants to become a hybrid and create an army of hybrids.
"I'm pretty sure your going to be the test subject." He shrugs.
"Pretty sure?!" I was not liking these odds.
"Why? What are you going to do?" Katherine asks, she must have sensed my distress because she takes my hand and gives it a light squeeze before dropping it again.
"Dead werewolf equals no ritual."
"Your plan sucks. I'll just be used as back up." I was now glaring at Damon with no shame, currently I'm imagining him impaled on a fence post.
"I'm hoping that the fact that you're his brother's girlfriend will work in your favour."
"If I die, I'm going to haunt you ass." I said seriously.
"No. You can't interfere, Damon. Klaus will kill you and everyone you've ever met. Including me." Katherine says interrupting mine and Damon's mini fight.
"I just need to delay this thing." Damon says desperately, he did something. You can see it all over his face.
"No. No way." Katherine shakes her head in objection.
"You should like this. It's going to buy another month of your pathetic life." Damon says smirking his ever present smirk.
"Right. Except that I'm not the vampire he's planning on sacrificing." Katherine says matching Damon's smirk.
"What?" looks like somebody got knocked off a peg or two. Sucker. Unlike Katherine, I had no idea what Klaus's point of keeping me here was, it's not like I ever did something to him.
"Yeah. He's got Caroline Forbes and Tyler Lockwood. Therefore, I'm in the clear." Katherine says, I looked at her in shock, how could she do this?
"And where'd he get that idea from?" Damon says, he walks toward her.
"Hey! Hey, hey, hey, I'm just trying to stay alive long enough to get myself out of here." Katherine says, I clear my throat, sometimes Katherine was sweet but most of the time she's a class A biatch.
"What if I told you Elena had vampire blood in her system?" Damon says, I look at him in shock.
"What?!" Katherine and I both yelled in shock.
"Imagine how much fun that will be competing with Elena for Stefan's love for, I don't know, forever." Damon says.
"The tomb. He's got them in the tomb." Katherine says.
"Thankyou." Damon left immediately not sparing any second glances.
"You sold Caroline and Tyler out?" I immediately turned on Katherine.
"It was either them or me and you. And I value my life and believe it or not, I actually like you. Which is rare."
"That was so heartfelt." I said sarcastically, she smiled and walked back over to the fridge.
"Look at what I found!" Katherine sang, it was a bottle of amber coloured bourbon. I smiled, if you're going to be a hostage, most well be a drunk hostage. I took the bottle from her and took an impressive swig. "My turn." She took the bottle and took a big gulp, we giggled together as we drank and danced to Alaric's music. Not the best selection but we'll live.
We were both sober again by the time Klaus came back, angrily marching through the door as Katherine made coffee to soothe my hangover.
"Everything ok?" Katherine asked.
"What have you been doing?" Klaus said as if he was accusing her of something. I put my head in my hands, this was not going to go well. You thought Klaus was a psycho when he was happy then you should see him when he's pissed. He belongs in a loony bin.
"Making coffee. Do you want some?" Katherine asks, ignoring or ignorant of his anger and frustration. I just stayed out of it. I jumped in surprise when he rushed over to her, wrapped his hands around her throat.
He compelled her. "Tell me what you've been doing."
Her pupils dilated as she said "making coffee for Aria's hangover." He looked towards me for confirmation and I nodded.
He releases her and she holds her neck and turns around. Klaus looks like he's had an idea which is never good, "Wait. Take off your bracelet." She takes it off and gives it to him begrudgingly.
"Now, I want you... to walk over to the window and stand in the sunlight." He compels her.
"But I'll burn." She says panicked. She had two options stand in the sun to prove herself to Klaus and he might not let her burn to death. He probably will. Or two, don't stand in the sun and bur but probably have Klaus rip your head off and put on the mantle for display.
"You don't have a choice." Klaus says evilly. I look between the two.
Katherine walks over to the window and she stands in the sunlight and her skin starts to burn. She keeps screaming. Klaus looks at her with a smile.
"Stop!" I yell, panic oozing out of my pours.
"That's enough." He says after a moment, I breathe a sigh of relief at these words.
She rushes over to the corner of the room, in the shadows and breaths out in pants as her skin regenerates.
"Guess I was wrong. All right, then. I need you to do something for me." Klaus says, I look at him and he has an evil smirk on his face.
Klaus enters the apartment after leaving to do whatever evil thing he is doing. Probably drowning butterflies and setting dogs on fire.
"Where's Maddox? He should be back by now." Klaus said immediately.
"I don't know." Katherine says when Klaus looks over I shrug and continue to file down my nails. By the time I got out of here, if I ever did, I was going to have great nails at least. And if I died at least I could go to the grave with great cuticles.
Klaus sits down and opens the laptop that was on the coffee table, I tried cracking the password but couldn't figure it out.
"What are you doing? Where's Elena?" Katherine asks, she's the worst prisoner ever.
"I sent her off with Greta." Klaus says, worry for Elena makes my heart race.
"Is Greta the one whose totally in love with you?" I ask and Klaus nods. "She obviously doesn't have good taste like I thought she did." I eyed my nails and was surprised when Klaus only chuckled.
"Insult me all you want, but the fact is, is that were basically family."
"And how's that?" I was not in any way related to this crazy.
"You're in love with my brother. My brother is in love with you. I'll turn you into a hybrid and eventually you and Elijah will marry making you my sister in law." He had a point.
"I thought you hated Elijah?"
"He hates me. I just have no tolerance for all of his honour. Such a bore." He looks back at his computer where Jules is transitioning.
"Shouldn't I be transitioning too?"
"No, I had my witch push back your transition, I wanted you to have front row seats to watch you sister get sacrificed."
"How lovely and thoughtful of you." I said drily.
"It's almost time." Klaus says gleefully, I roll my eyes. Ass.
The door opens. Katherine and Klaus both look at the door. "I wasn't aware you'd been invited in." Klaus says as Damon enters.
"I've come here to tell you that you have to postpone the ritual." Damon says proudly, this is going to bite him in the ass so bad.
"Didn't we already have this conversation?" Klaus asks.
"Yeah, but that was before I rescued your werewolf and vampire and killed your witch." Damon says, pride for himself etched into his features. Smugness dripping off of him.
Klaus gets up and faces Damon "Excuse me?" he says.
"And you can kill me for it. I don't care. It was all me." Damon says.
"And now he's just asking for it." I said under my breath.
"Katerina, give us a moment. Aria, stay."
I was going to protest but thought better of it. Katherine looks at them and them at me and mouths the words 'you'll be okay?' I nodded and smiled.
"I've heard about you. The crazy, impulsive vampire in love with his brother's girl. I knew one of you would try to stop me. It was a just a 50/50 guess on who." Klaus says. He picks up the laptop and shows Damon the video of Jules shifting, her screaming and bones breaking. It looked like hell.
"The nice thing about werewolves is they tend to travel in packs. Need a closer look?" Klaus says smugly, the smirk, pride and smugness are completely wiped off of Damon's face. Klaus throws the cell phone so he can get a closer look.
"Jules." Damon realizes.
"When you spend a thousand years trying to break a curse... You learn a thing or two. First rule... always have a back-up. Back-up werewolf. Back-up witch." Klaus trails off leaving Damon to finish.
"Back-up vampire."
"I've got that covered, too." He looked at me. Why was he looking at me? He looked almost regretful. Then out of nowhere Klaus snaps his neck and Damon crumples to the ground at my feet.
Damon is unconscious still. Katherine is giving him some blood from a blood bag and slaps him. I'm glaring at Katherine who purposely isn't looking at me. But I know she can feel my wrath, and she knows that I'll kill her one day.
"Hey. Damon. Hey. Damon!" Katherine yells and Damon wakes up looking confused and pissed.
"Ahh. What the hell happened?" he grunts and moans.
"He's gone. He went to do the ritual. I'm sorry. I had to. He would have known that I was on vervain if I didn't do it." I glare even harder and scoff. Always everyman for themselves with her. Nobody else matters.
"Ahh. Do what?" he asks.
"Klaus. He made me call her to lure her out. He needed another vampire." I'm pretty sure if I was a cartoon character steam would be coming out of my ears, but I'm not so I'm just going to sit here and seethe with rage.
"Who did you call?" he asked panicked, he turned to me "who did she call?" a tear glides down my cheek.
He grabs Katherine's arm, "Who did you call, Katherine?" he asked urgently.
Damon gets up from the floor as soon as he hears this. He looks at me who now has silent tears running down my cheek. I can't do anything stuck here. I can't lose Jenna and Lena. I won't.
"Should have used me. Why didn't he use me?" Damon is talking to Katherine.
"He couldn't. Damon, he said you were as good as dead." Katherine says.
"What does that even mean?"
"What does that mean?" Katherine looks at the hideous and infected werewolf bite on Damon's forearm.
"What is this, Damon?"
"It's a werewolf bite."
Then I feel it. A feeling of freedom. Like I can go anywhere. I get up and tentively walk to the front door, Damon and Katherine not noticing my absence. I reach out for the doorknob, I can touch it, I twist it and the door opens out into the hallway. I place one foot on the other side and then the other. I can leave.
I look back at Katherine and Damon who still haven't noticed me. I run down the stairs and through the hallways. Why doesn't this place have an elevator? I run into the parking lot. There is one of Klaus's cars is there.
I smash the window with my elbow and reach in to open the door from the other side, the alarm starts going off like crazy. I slide into the driver's seat and rip off the steering column with my new werewolf strength, the access panel is in front of me now (A/N: BTW: I'm getting this off of google). Different coloured wires all snaked together are taunting me. I've never done this before, I'm running on wolf strength and adrenaline. The wires are connected to a harness connector. There are three bundles of wires, I pull aside the battery, ignition and starter wire bundle. I strip about one inch of insulation from the battery wires and twist them together. I connect the ignition wire to the battery wire, I strip the starter wire about a ½ inch and rev the engine. It starts. Thank god.
I pull the car out of the parking space and to where the sacrifice is being held. I drive through all the trees that seem so much more intimidating tonight then they ever had.
Suddenly my wrist breaks. Like a snap. I scream in surprise and groan in pain. Not yet! I can't shift yet. I have to get to Jenna.
I pull up at a cliff and look down. Jenna is clutching her head in pain or something else I don't know. Jenna and Elena are sitting on the ground in their rings of fire. A bone in my leg snaps and I fall onto my knees. I watch in pain as I listen to their conversation.
"Oh, my head. What's wrong with me?" Jenna asks confused as always.
"Do you remember what happened?" Elena asks.
"You called me. You were so scared. Oh, ah, I should have realized that it wasn't you. The second I walked out of the house, someone grabbed me. A vampire." Jenna says.
"Klaus. It was Klaus." Elena says.
"He made me drink his blood. And I don't... I don't remember anything after that. Where are we? What happened?" Jenna looks around anxiously. I can see that she's scared. I don't want her to be scared. Elena takes Jenna's hand in hers.
"We're at the quarry. He brought us here." Elena explains to a very confuse Jenna.
"Why don't I remember anything?"
"Jenna, do you remember... When I told you how someone becomes a vampire?" Oh no. She's a vampire. I have to hide my sobs. It wasn't meant to b this way.
"Yeah, if you die with vampire blood in your system, it's..." she pauses as she realizes what has happened to her. "Oh, god. He killed me."
"Jenna, listen to me. Listen to me; everything's going to be ok. I'm going to get you out of here."
"I'm a vampire?"
"And I bet you're hungry." Greta comes out of nowhere and approaches them, they both look at her from their spot on the ground. Elena sees something and I used my enhanced sight and see a sharp rock nearby, she rushes to grab it, but, with a wave of her hand, Greta sends Elena flying backwards. I growl as Elena lands painfully in the dirt. Great waves her hand again, creating a circle of fire around Elena. Elena stands up and rushes towards the flames, but the flames just reach higher.
My left wrist snaps as if it was just connected by a string. My right ankle breaks next and I stuff my fist in my mouth to muffle my scream.
"Don't bother trying to get through. I spelled the circle. You're trapped. No matter what you do." Greta says in a cold tone.
"Greta... Please, just- just let her go." Elena says gesturing to Jenna.
Greta slices her wrist open with the sharp rock. Blood drips from her wound. Jenna looks at it, hungrily.
"Klaus chose her." Greta says.
"No." Elena says.
Greta lowers her wrist towards Jenna. "Drink it."
"Jenna, don't!" Elena yells.
"I can't." Jenna struggles to say.
"Let her go. Hey!" Elena yells. Jenna continues to stare at Greta's bloody wrist and finally sinks her teeth in. "No! No." Elena's eyes glisten with tears. Jenna closes her eyes as the warm blood enters her mouth. After a few moments, Greta pulls his wrist out of Jenna's grip and Jenna falls to the ground.
"No." I whisper.
"That's enough." Greta pulls her wrist away and stands. I'll kill that bitch.
"Jenna. It's going to be ok." Elena says. Greta flicks her wrist and another circle of fire surrounds Jenna. Jenna retreats from the flames, looking terrified.
"Jenna, I know you can hear me. And I want you to know that it's going to be okay. Ok? I love you, Elena loves you and Jeremy loves you. We'll be okay. You'll be okay." I whispered and I saw her nod. I muffled my groan as a few ribs broke.
"Look at me. Hey, look at me." Elena says. Jenna turns her head towards Elena, scarlet blood still running down her chin. "It's gonna be ok. It's gonna be ok."
Jenna silently says "No" as the dark veins of hunger creep towards her eyes.
I cough as my right ankle snapped. My fingers were breaking and I looked at them as my nails elongated and dug into the soft dirt.
Greta leaves and returns with a shifting Jules. Next Klaus returns in all his smugness. A few more bones break. Before I know it, Jules' heart is ripped out of her chest and put into a cauldron or whatever you call it.
I saw Klaus heading towards Jenna.
"No!" I yell and he looks up at me. Suddenly he's directly in front of me.
"Glad you could join us." He says.
"Please. Not Jenna. Just turn some random on the street. Just please not Jenna." I begged.
"Can't do that. It's too late but you should stay here and watch." I growled at him like an animal. "That's the spirit." I saw my reflection the quarry water, my eyes were gold, no longer the icy blue.
"Please." My lower lip quivered.
"It's too late."
"No." I whispered. I was too late. I collapsed onto my broken knees again and screamed as my spine broke and my back arched and my fangs pushed through my gums. Klaus smiled at me.
"Isn't that a beautiful sight." I growled at him. He jumps back down to where Jenna is. I want to run and try and save her, something but I can't. I can feel my bones shifting. I can't hold it in any longer and I scream. Elena looks over and I see her visibly flinch under my golden gaze. My scream startles the birds and they screech back at me and fly away. I bite my lip to try and control myself, soon blood, hot and think blood, is running down my chin from where my fangs pierced my skin, it immediately heals.
Klaus and Elena are talking, I think she's begging him not to kill Jenna. It's no use. I can't even listen, to consumed by my own pain. Klaus looks to the top of the quarry near where I am but not where I am.
Then I see Stefan. I think I sigh in relief but it's soon replaced by another scream of agony. Stefan has to save Jenna. They're talking and then Klaus jumps up onto the cliff where Stefan is. Please fix this Stefan.
I need to get out of here. I feel the urge to rip out Stefan's, Jenna's and Klaus's throats. I can't leave though. I just need to focus. Elijah. Elijah, he can fix this. He can kill Klaus before Klaus kills Jenna.
I stand on legs that are deformed and broken. I immediately fall back down. I feel my spine shifting. Turning me into a werewolf. I use my arms and drag my body across the cliff surface and into the woods. The bones in my arms are breaking and forming into new ones. Too soon. I should have more time.
I hear a scream and decide that I need to go back. I can't reach Elijah but I can watch him rip Klaus's heart out of his chest. If he even had a heart. Klaus had staked Stefan not in the heart but it would still hurt and then Klaus snapped his neck, Stefan fell not so gracefully to the ground.
The fire around Jenna disappears, its time.
"No!" I scream. Tears are streaming down my cheeks in waterfalls and sobs shake my body. Before I know what's happening Jenna speeds over to Greta and bites her neck ferociously, her new blood red eyes shining in the fire.
It all happened in slow motion.
Klaus had staked Jenna.
She was turning grey and black veins were branching from her face, her face frozen in terror. I scream but not because my ribs were breaking but because I had just lost Aunt Jenna. Beautiful Aunt Jenna who deserved more than this. She didn't deserve to be turned into a vampire. To be sacrificed. To be in this supernatural mess at all. She was too innocent, too fragile.
Stefan had woken up and was watching as the circle of fire diminished until the last flickering flame was gone. Klaus extends his hand to her but she just shoves past him and makes her way to the alter. Stefan is struggling but is too weak like me. Klaus sinks his fangs into Elena's neck and soon the life starts to leave her eyes. Both Stefan and I watch helplessly. Just watching. Not capable of saving anyone. Klaus releases her and Elena's eyes close and she has no heart beat anymore. She looks like a crumpled mess, not a person.
Klaus's bones begin to break and his eyes turn gold like a werewolves but he still has the veins swimming under his eyes like a vampire. He is now a hybrid. He got exactly what he wanted by killing my family.
I can hear him cheering 'yes! Yes!' excitedly.
I take great pleasure in seeing his body thrown through the air and land harshly, Greta's bowl or cauldron or whatever, the flames reignite startling her. I see Bonnie coming down the hillside chanting in Latin or some other dead language that only witches use. Damon sneaks up behind Greta and snaps her neck, giving me great satisfaction. That bitch deserved it. Damon kneels down and picks up Elena's limp and dead body.
"No! You were dead!" Klaus yells at Bonnie. Bonnie is unfazed though and continues to chant. Klaus's body contorts into painful and unnatural shapes as he screams. Music to my ears. Normally I'm not sadistic but I just watched him murder my sister and aunt. I've deserved sadistic.
Damon lays Elena's body next to Stefan and I can see the clear heartbreak. Anybody could see it. Damon rips the stake from Stefan's body and it looks like he's about to help him up but Stefan stops him.
"I need you to get her out of here!" he says.
"What about you?" Damon asks.
"I'm not leaving until he's dead. Go!" Stefan yells and Damon picks up Elena's dead body and speeds away. Stefan sits up and Bonnie continues to chant. I can't feel the pain of shifting because I'm too busy waiting in anticipation for Klaus's death. Tree's fall. And Klaus lays against rocks screaming in pain. I see Elijah approaching and I smile. Bonnie stops chanting and all is silent.
"Elijah?" Klaus whispers.
"Hello brother." Elijah says calmly. Stefan gets up and limps over to behind Bonnie. Elijah plunges his arm into Klaus's chest. This is it. He's going to die. "In the name of our family, Niklaus…" Elijah twists Klaus's non-existent heart.
"I didn't bury them at sea." Klaus rasps out. No.
No.
No.
No!
Don't do it Elijah.
"What?" Elijah asks. He's believing it. No!
"Their bodies are safe. If you kill me, you'll never find them." Klaus says.
"Elijah! Don't listen to him." Stefan pleads, he looks up at me and pleads with his eyes for me to do something.
"Elijah. I can take you to them. I give you my word… brother." Klaus says. I can see the doubt about killing Klaus in Elijah's eyes.
"Don't do it Elijah!" I scream from my spot and sit so he can see me. Elijah looks at me and then back at Klaus. "If you do this-"
"Do it and I'll take you both out." Bonnie says menacingly.
"You'll die." Elijah says.
"I don't care." Bonnie replies.
Elijah looks back down at Klaus and back at bonnie and Stefan, "I'm sorry." He says directed at me, I growl, more animal than human now. Bonnie and Stefan run towards them but they're gone.
"No!" they both scream.
I howl at the moon and fully submit to my wolfs urges.
I wake up on cold, hard ground. Leaves crinkle under me and I lift my head up. A dead deer lay beside me and I am completely naked. Dried blood is staining my mouth, chin, neck and hands. I stand up and start walking.
Thoughts take over my mind, Jenna is dead, Elena is dead, Klaus is alive because of Elijah and we are so over.
I walk until I find a campers tent, they're both still sleeping soundly. I steal a pair of jeans and a plaid shirt. Seriously who even wears plaid anymore?
I walk until I reach the abandoned witch house. John is walking outside.
"Uncle John?" he looks over at me and is focusing on my mouth. "Deer blood." I say self-consciously.
He nods. "I never wanted this for you. You, Elena or Jeremy. I wanted you all to have a normal life."
"Normal isn't even possible in Mystic Falls." I smile.
"I wish I could have been more involved in your life. Been there for you when you needed me to be. Maybe not as a father but as a something."
"Why does this feel like a goodbye?" I choked out.
"Because it is. I'm giving my life so Elena doesn't become a vampire." He looked at me sadly and a traitor tear escaped.
"That's… wow. But… John." I don't even know what to say anymore.
"It'll be okay. You're strong." He smiled, "always have been."
"Not that strong. You're the only parent I have left." I need him here. I couldn't lose anybody else.
"You never needed me." I did though. I do.
"But I need you now. I need to know what to do. How to fight. Elijah tricked me and I don't ever want to feel like that again."
"Vampires aren't to be trusted Aria." I nodded.
"Your right. They can't be." I agreed, after tonight they couldn't be.
"Take care of Jeremy and Elena. You're the only one that can." I nodded.
"Always. I'll hold the fort down." He hugs me and I hug him back. His arms go slack around me and I try to hold him up but I feel him slipping and I fall with him to the ground and sob. Horrible, hideous sobs.
I put john on the ground and press a kiss to my biological fathers forehead and stand and make my way into the room here everybody is gathered around Elena who is now awake and not a vampire.
"Out." I say, everybody looks at me in shock, the tear and blood stained face.
"Everybody out! I need to talk to Elena!" I yelled. Everybody walks out shocked at my behaviour.
"Are you ok?"
"Am I ok?" I laugh. I might be going a little crazy. Who knows? Maybe. It's quite possible. I'm filled with a sudden rage. All consuming, seeing red, blind rage. "People die around you Elena! Everybody has lost so many people in the fight to keep YOU safe! Jenna, Vicki, Isobel and now John! So many people! How many more will there be?! Huh? I'm sick of losing people! How many more have to die for you? Soon there will be no one left!" I see Elena crying and my anger fades, I go back over my words.
"I'm sorry. I'm just… these vampires are ruining our lives." I choke up and walk over to Elena and pull her into my arms.
We both whisper 'I'm sorry' to each other over and over.
We're just broken parts now. No fixing us.
