The forgotten One-
Chapter 19- The reckoning
A/N: Thankyou for all the reviews, can't believe it's only five more and then 100 reviews! Thanks to everybody who followed or clicked the favourite button, I love you! So Rebekah and Aria friendship is a yay! Klaus is back this chapter, how Aria is alive is revealed and Aria and Caroline may not be best friends for forever. Sorry for the late update, I know I'm making it a habit, so sorry, but I have an excuse, I'm in my 3rd term of year nine and the teachers are starting to load me up with assignments so it's becoming hard to update and write, also I'm taking a break from my other story Resurrected to focus on this story.

All the mousetraps that we had been setting up for about an hour, maybe more, I don't know all suddenly snap up. One bites into my finger and I yelp but the skin patches right backup. "Perks." I say to Elena as I hold up my finger, she grimaces at me and stands up, I follow suit and turn to see a very surprised and sweaty Matt standing there.
"Ohh! Oh, come on! Seriously?! Do you know how long it took for us to set all this up?!" Caroline yells out in frustration, she looks like she might blow up, and I really don't want to be cleaning pieces of Caroline off of the wall.
"Forgot about senior prank night, huh?" Tyler says.
"Clearly." Matt replies still looking stunned.
"How could you forget? We've only been waiting for this since like freshman year." Caroline says, very true. Ever since freshman year we had planned this night, it was what normal teens did.
"Yeah, Matt. If I'm doing this, you're doing this." Elena says, way too make it all about her. I had been especially irritable since I got shit-faced last night.
"I'm kind of surprised any of you are doing this." Matt says, he has a point. I'm a newly turned hybrid, Elena's a doppelganger whose boyfriend is bathing in blood, and Caroline's father just replaced summer shopping with torture time, Bonnie's… Bonnie.
"Caroline's making us." Bonnie says.
"Try to say it with a little more enthusiasm." I say dryly, I had a guilty pleasure of annoying Bonnie, it was just so easy to do, she glared at me and I smiled.
"We're about to be seniors. These are the memories that will stay with us forever, and if we don't..." Oh god, not the speech again, she had said it so many times that I could recite it in my sleep.
"And if we don't create these memories now, then what's the point of it all?" Elena finished and Caroline smiled.
"Go ahead and make fun, I don't care." She shrugged.
"You're all lame. And I've got ten more classrooms to prank." Tyler says and picks up his bag loaded with prank wear and leaves, Elena walks forward to leave as well.
"Hey! Where are you going?" Bonnie calls after her.
"To superglue Alaric's desk shut. I'm making memories." Elena smiles and we all smile back. Normalcy.
"I love you!" Caroline calls out in a sing song voice.
"I don't know about you two, but I'm going to go and super glue the science lab stools to the ceiling." I say and walk out hearing Caroline call out 'your awesome'. I enter the empty and dark science lab, the lights are off and everything is very horror movie like. Girl enters dark space and ominous music plays. Just great. At least I have some kick ass vamp powers to fight with.
"Well aren't you supposed to be dead?" A very familiar British voce says from behind me. I spin around and am pinned to the wall by Klaus.
"Klaus." I choke out against his hold on my throat.
"This is interesting in deed." He says and let's go, I slump to the ground and look up at him. He is studying me with interest, "up you hop." He says and I stand, he grabs my arm and soon he whooshes us through the hallways until I hear Elena laughing, an unfamiliar sound, and opens the double doors. She's face to face with us, she lets out a startled, strangled gasp. "There's my girl."
"Klaus!" she whispers and turns to run but were in front of her again.
"You are supposed to be dead. What are we going to do about that?" Klaus asks with an evil smirk. Klaus grabs hold of Elena's arm in his other hand and drags us through the school halls, Elena resists but I know it would just be a futile attempt. "You put a rather large kink in my plans, sweetheart. The whole point of breaking the curse and becoming a hybrid was to make more hybrids. I haven't been able to do that. Now my bet is, it has something to do with the fact that you're still breathing." Klaus says to Elena, he turns to look at me, "we'll deal with how you're alive after. My very first hybrid, I'm proud." He says and I smile. Something about the fact that he is happy with me makes me feel… fulfilled.
"If you're going to kill me, just do it!" Elena begs.
"Not until I know I'm right. But I do have ways of making you suffer." Klaus says and we enter the gym, students are filling red cups with water guns, Klaus speaks with an American accent as he says, "Attention, seniors. You have officially been busted. Prank night is over. Head on home."
"You have a very good American accent." I say as an afterthought and Elena looks at me with wide eyes like I'm insane.
"I've had a thousand years to live, you pick up a few things." He says in return. A thousand years, I wonder what that's like. He stops in front of Dana and her boyfriend Chad, "You two. I remember you." He spoke with his usual deep, British accent.
"I'm sorry. Who are you?" asked Dana innocently.
"Oh, don't worry, I wasn't in my right head last time we met." His pupils dilate and he looks into her eyes, "Lift your foot up, please, Dana." He looks at Chad who is looking at Dana confusedly as she lifts her foot up and tetters to the side before regaining stability, "If she drops her foot, Chad, I want you to beat her to death. Understood?" Klaus asks and Dana whimpers.
"Don't, Klaus. You don't have to hurt anybody." Elena pleads.
"Oh, come on, love. Of course I do." Klaus says with an evil smirk, he looks to me and cocks his head to the side. "Now, how are you alive?" he asks.
"I don't know." I answer truthfully.
"We'll have to fix that won't we?" He asked, although it was more rhetorically, "but first…" he looks over to Dana who looks petrified and is wobbling, tears stream down her face, "keep it up." I can't find it in myself to fight Klaus, to stop this.
"Where's Stefan? What did you do to him?" Elena asks.
"Is that all that matters to you?" I snap at her and her huge bambi eyes turn to me in surprise, "Stefan this and Stefan that! He's a ripper again, which means that all he's going to want to do is rip your throat out! It's what he's always wanted but has restrained himself for his high school fantasy that he has going on!" I yell and Elena's eyelashes flutter innocently and Klaus smirks. I can't believe that all she can think about is Stefan, Klaus could kill anyone in a second without any notice and she'd still only care about Stefan. "He's not a freaking angel, he's a vampire who can't control himself but has managed to paint a pretty little picture for you and you being the naïve little girl you are, only see what he wants you to see, you don't see the shades of grey, the silver lining!" I scream, it's like I'm letting out all my rage at Elena over the past 18 years of my life, right at this moment, I don't even know what she did but all I see is somebody who only cares about Stefan in front of me and not of the consequences.
"He can't control it!" Elena yells, the same excuse she always uses.
"Damon can and he's had the same amount of time to learn, Caroline can and she's only been a vampire for a year, I can and I've only been a vampire over the freaking summer add that onto the fact that I'm a werewolf! He should be able to control himself, so stop kidding yourself with this, Stefan craps rainbows bullshit!" I yell, it's not eve that I'm mad at Stefan, I'm mad at Elena for her one track mind.
"Stefan's on a time out." Klaus says, "Now, let's have a little time out, as entertaining as the girl fight is." He tugs me away from Elena and sits me down on the bleachers, I breathe out deeply and feel my eyes flash at Klaus to which he smiles appraisingly.
The doors open and Matt and Bonnie enter, "Bonnie, get out of here!" Elena yells, uh, what about Matt? Whatever, not thinking about it. Think about puppies, rainbows and AB+ blood.
"Ah, I was wondering when you'd show up. Now we can get started." Klaus says and looks at Dana who looks exhausted and distressed as she teeters from side to side and hops on that one foot that looks like it might break. "Ah, Dana, why don't you relax? You and Chad sit tight." Dana collapses and Chad helps her ease down and she sighs in relief. Klaus turns to look at Bonnie who meets his stare with a steely glare, "I assume you're the reason Elena's still walking around alive?" sounded like he already knows the answer.
"That's right. If you want to blame someone, blame me." She raises her chin defiantly and with indignation. God, now is not the time to be wonder woman.
"Oh, there's no need for blame, love. Just your witchy interference seems to have caused some undesirable side effects. And since you caused the problem, I'm going to have you find the fix." Klaus says and like a curtain call, a pretty blond enters through the gym doors dragging a reluctant and fighting Tyler by the scruff of his neck.
"Get off of me!" He yells and flails his arms around.
"Hush now." She scolds him like a mother would when catching her child's hand in the proverbial cookie jar, and she has a British accent, like Klaus. She also looks like Klaus, this must be Rebekah that I've heard about.
"I'd like you all to meet my sister Rebekah. Word of warning... She can be quite mean." Klaus says and smirks, every body's faces falls and look at Rebekah in horror. They don't even know her and yet here they are already judging her.
"Don't be an ass." She says and glares at her brother, she throws Tyler into Klaus' arms like he weighs nothing more than a mere rag doll.
"Leave him alone!" Elena screeches, as if that would do anything. All it does is annoy me even more, maybe if it was Stefan or Damon the whole 'tell them what to do and they listen' thing would've worked but they want to kill her and they don't have a problem with it.
"I'm going to make this very simple... Every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid, they die during the transition. It's quite horrible, actually. Well, apart from Aria who is still an enigma that we will get to the bottom of." Klaus says and I smile, answers finally, he bites into his wrist, like he did with me, and forces his bleeding wrist into Tyler's mouth. "I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie. And for Tyler's sake... You better hurry." He snaps Tyler's neck and everybody watches shocked, apart from Rebekah, Klaus and myself, as his dead body falls to the floor. I knew this would happen. But he'll be okay, one of Elena's positive qualities is that she would do anything for her friends and family, most of the time, she doesn't think about the consequences which is her downfall, every quality has a flaw to accompany it.
My sister sits on the floor next to Dana and Chad, stroking her hair as she rocks herself back and forth, while Matt and I sit next to Tyler's dead body. Elena walks back over and we all stand around his body, "He killed him." Matt says and tears swim in his eyes, I grip his shoulder as a show of support and the Aria way of saying 'everything's going to be okay.'
"He's not dead. Klaus's blood will turn him into a vampire." Elena says not very soothingly.
"Even then, he'll still be very dead." Although I'm not much better, sugar-coating it wasn't going to make it any better for Matt so I was laying the facts on him.
"And if Bonnie's successful, he'll live through his transition. Go on, then. Go and fetch your grimoires. And enchantments and what-not. I'll hold on to Elena... For safe-keeping." He grabs Elena by her upper arm and looks at her, Elena gestures for Bonnie to leave and she does begrudgingly with a reluctant Matt.
Rebekah walks over to Elena and looks her up and down like a critic, "so this is the latest doppelgänger. The original one was much prettier." She says and I can't help but let out a very un-lady like snort.
"How can that be? They look exactly the same." I put in and Rebekah looks over at me.
"Enough, you two. Take the wolf boy elsewhere, would you both?" He asks, but with the look in his eyes I knew it wasn't much of a question, even so, if it made him happy then who was I to disobey?
Rebekah grabs Tyler's limp arm and drags him across the floor and we exit the gym, "you could at least be gentle about dragging him." I say and she looks at me but doesn't ease up on her grip on his arm.
"What's your name?"
"Aria Gilbert." I say and she looks me over.
"You don't look anything like your sister."
"She got the bad genes." I say and she actually cracks a smile, teeth and all. "You don't look anything like Elijah."
"How do you know my brother?" She asks and raises a sculpted brow.
"Elijah? Uh…" Not quite sure what we are, I used to but not anymore, "were, friends. Kinda." I say and she chuckles.
"As if. I know that look, you and my brother? I always thought he had a soft spot for manipulative, doe eyed doppel-bitches." She says and I laugh.
"I guess there is an exception to every rule, and ew." I crinkle my nose in distaste as images flash in my mind, "I'm having flashes of Elena and Elijah. Gross." I say and Rebekah makes a vomiting motion with her free hand.
"To be honest, I don't see the appeal of the doppelgangers, they're whiny, annoying-"
"Selfish, manipulative and have a fetish for brothers?" I finish for her.
"Exactly." She looks at me appraisingly. "How you two are related is beyond me." She asks as if she couldn't believe it, neither could I most days, everyday really. We had absolutely nothing in common, including our looks, talents, flaws and personalities, and taste in men, she seems to like brothers like every doppelganger before her, and she could at least try to be original.
"Sometimes it amazes me still, we came from the same blood but were more like strangers. Depressing really." I say and she drops Tyler's dead body next to Caroline's who currently has her neck snapped, by Rebekah. "Did you have to kill her?" I ask and sit down by the lockers and pat the space next to me that she sits on soon after.
"She tried to get in my way." She shrugs and smirks.
"You and your brother are totally alike."
"Is that a compliment?" she asks and I ponder, I should hate Klaus but I don't. He killed my aunt, my sister and in the end he inevitable impersonally killed my uncle.
"I don't know."

Rebekah and I are taking selfies on Caroline's phone, mean and horrible, I know but I'm teaching her the basics. "Why do they call them duck lips?" She asks but I'm cut off from giving her an answer by a groan coming from a drowsy blond. "We didn't have mobile telephones in my day. Would have made life a whole lot easier, I suppose." She says without looking up from the phone, we pose again and snap a picture.
"Where's Tyler?" Caroline asks rubbing her neck and looking around.
"He's dead. Ish." Rebekah says without remorse and looks at her, Caroline sees his body lying not too far away and gasps.
"What did you do to him?"
"Think of it as he's having a nap. When he wakes up, he'll be a hybrid." Rebekah says and starts looking through the photos and makes a disgusted face when she sees a photo of Stefan and Elena, is Stefan an ex? There definitely seem to be some residual feelings swimming in those baby blue eyes. "Ugh. Vomit." I giggle and Caroline glares at me and Rebekah gasps suddenly and stiffens like an ironing board and zooms in on the photo and her eyes attach to the necklace hanging around Elena's neck, personally I never thought it was that pretty so how is it that everything comes back to it? "Is that my neck...? Why is that doppelgänger bitch wearing my necklace?!" she yells enraged. Stefan gave Elena ex leftovers? What a sleaze. She rushes off and I look over to Caroline to see her hovering over Tyler and checking for a pulse.
"He won't have one. Technically he's dead, when he wakes up, he'll still be dead. If he survives the transition, he'll always be dead." I say and Caroline's gaze angles in on me.
"Well you sure know how to sugar-coat things."
"It's never been my specialty." I shrug and Caroline stands up and I follow.
"How are you so calm?!" she yells and I sigh, I don't know how to answer, I didn't feel anything really. I didn't see the need to freak out at the moment, Tyler becoming a hybrid is a good thing, and it means not having to break every bone in your body on every full moon.
"Everything's fine, nobody's dead." I think over my words before looking over at Tyler, "permanently."
"He'll be a hybrid if he doesn't die!" she yells and I gape at her, how is this a bad thing?
"Which means that he won't have to go through the pain of shifting every full moon, I only felt it once but it was the worst feeling imaginable. Klaus is freeing us, it might be for his own purposes but at least we benefit." Caroline scoffs.
"At whose expense?" she says and shoots me a glare that could've made any human flinch and wither under her hard stare.
"Nobody's. Who has gotten hurt? Nobody. Compared to one of Stefan, Elena or Damon's plans that always gets somebody killed. Maybe this time it'll be you or Bonnie or Jeremy or Matt. It could be anybody, this time, nobody dies, in fact this is the best thing to happen to me, I think Tyler will feel the same way." I say and Caroline glares and launches herself so suddenly at me that I don't have time to brace myself. "Get off!" I yell and punch her and she goes flying off. "Don't do that again. Were friends. I don't want to hurt you." She scoffs and clicks her tongue.
"Oh my god! Aria! Have you been compelled or something?" she yells and I shake my head at her.
"You don't get it. You and everybody else in this one mall town see things in shades of black and white, you don't see outside the lines. Because if you did then you would see that your actions have repercussions, Anna and Tyler's dad are both dead because Bonnie couldn't get over her hatred of vampires, Vikki is dead because Damon got bored and she hadn't learned control and Stefan overreacted when Elena got bitten and didn't think to subdue her instead of put everyone, especially Matt who nobody ever thinks of, through the consequences, grams is dead because Damon wanted Katherine out and Elena and Stefan schemed to look him in when all he wanted was his love." I breathed out and felt the gold dissipate from my eyes, "could you just try to see things from my perspective?" instead of answering me she threw herself at me and bared her fangs with a hiss, "guess not." I pushed her away as she leapt at me but she predicted this move and slid under my arm and kicked me in the stomach, momentarily winding me, she punched me and I fell into the lockers, before I could get up, she straddled me and pinned me to the ground, damn vampire strength in years.
"Klaus killed you aunt and sister, how can you just forgive him for that?"
"Were all works in progress." I say and head butt her, she goes sailing through the air and lands a few feet away, I growl at her and bare my fangs at her in warning. Before she could strike again another blond enters the scene and stands by my side.
"Girls, girls. Now is not the time for fighting, later maybe." Rebekah says and leads us to an empty classroom. Not to later, Tyler awakens with a gasp and sits up and immediately starts firing off questions at us.
"Where am I? What happened?"
"Tyler." Caroline delicately says.
"Don't be shy about it." Rebekah butts in.
"What's going on?" he asks and I sigh, somebodies going to have to answer him.
"Klaus is turning you into a vampire. A hybrid. You're in transition." Caroline says.
Don't leave out the hard part, sweets. You'll only survive if your witch is successful. If not... You're pretty much dead." Rebekah says.
"Tone down on the harshness." I say to Rebekah and she shrugs. "Tyler, everything's fine, just relax and don't think about it too much, you'll get worry lines. Besides if I can survive the transition, then you can too. You're the jerkiest guy ever but you're strong and you're a survivor, you survived your father and Mason dying and becoming a werewolf and shifting more times than I know. That takes strength. That's how I know that you'll be okay." I say and he breaths in deeply and out shallowly, slowly the tension leaves his shoulders and he shoots me a mouthed 'thanks'.
"You're going to be ok. Ok? It's going to be ok." Caroline says and Tyler looks at her unconvinced.
"I wonder how she's doing." Rebekah says and checks the clock on Caroline's phone that she seems to have stolen for good. "Tick tock goes the gym clock." She says mockingly.
"Rebekah is such a long name, we should shorten it." I say to Rebekah out of the blue after a few seconds of tension filled silence.
"My family calls me Bekah." She says and I ponder for a moment.
"I want to call you something special, an Aria and Rebekah thing. "What about… Bex?"
"I like it." She smiles softly and I can tell it's genuine.
Klaus walks into the room with a look of victory plastered on his face, "Well, the verdict's in. The original witch says the doppelgänger should be dead." Rebekah grins sadistically and gets up, I have a great dislike for my twin but I don't want to see her dead, but anyhow, I saw through Klaus' eyes that there was still another way without killing Elena.
"Does that mean we can kill her?" Bex asks a little too excited for my taste.
"No, I'm fairly certain it means the opposite." Ever the cryptic.
"What?!" Rebekah says and looks like somebody kicked her puppy.
"Call it a hunch..." great were basing Tyler's life off of a hunch, but Klaus seems so sure, so… if he thinks it'll work then why would I disagree with him. He shows a test tube containing blood to Tyler, I can smell Elena, and it's her blood. Her blood isn't the problem. It's the solution. Damn! The original witch is smart. Rebekah holds one of Caroline's arms so she can't move and I grab the other.
"Let go of Me." she says to me and pleads with her eyes.
"Elena's blood. Drink it." Klaus says and waves the tube in front of Tyler who eyes it hungrily.
"No! No, no, no, Tyler, don't!" Caroline says and struggles.
"If he doesn't feed, he'll die anyway, love. Consider this an experiment." Tyler struggles to look away but I know the effect, the allure and I know before he does that he will drink it, and he does. He drains it dry. "There we go. Good boy." Klaus says as if to a pup. Tyler is suddenly screaming and rolling around on the ground in pain. He screams, groans and writhes and tears at himself to escape the pain. He holds his head and screams but his face finally change, his eyes are yellow, he has fangs and veins under his eyes, like me, like Klaus. Like a hybrid. "Well, that's a good sign."
888
My phone rang and I looked at the name that flashed up.
"Well look at what the Kat dragged in." I said and smiled at my own joke even though it is the lamest joke ever.
"I'm going to ignore that horrible joke and tell why I called." I listened closely as every word she said shocked me ever more. "I had a witch look into how you're alive, it's because you share the same blood, perks of being the doppelgangers twin is that you share the same blood which enabled you to become a hybrid." I gasped at the new information and hung up on Katherine after saying a quick thankyou and goodbye.
I guess Elena and I did have something in common after all.
Blood.
Blood is family. Blood is power.
