Part 9 – Up to Something
Blaise leaned against the door jamb as he watched Draco sit on the window like a lovesick puppy. He cleared his throat and Draco whipped around so fast; he almost fell to the floor. It was all amusing in a pathetic, ironic way. Blaise totally supported his friend falling for the clever witch, yet his best friend acting like a love fool. He smiled as he said, "You could just tell her how you feel."
Draco looked petrified as he questioned, "Are you crazy?"
The other Slytherin moved into the room and his face showed a considering look as he replied, "I have been called a lot of things in my years but never crazy."
Draco leaned against the wall next to the window and slowly slid down the wall as he sighed in a defeated manor. "I don't want to scare her away. It hasn't been long enough for her heart to heal."
"I get that. I really do." Blaise leaned against the desk in front of the blonde and folded his arms across his chest. "But if she doesn't even know your intentions, how can she decide for herself when she is ready to move on. Tell her you will wait and let the cards fall as they may. You can't go on like this."
"I suppose your right," Draco replied as he put his head back against the wall. "I take it you have an idea on how to do this without making me look like fool."
"You mean a bigger fool than what you look like right at this moment. Yes, of course," Blaise smiled brightly as he thought back on the owls he had been sending back and forth to Hogwarts. It was time to put their plan in place; he smirked thinking it was about time!
The headmistress sat across from the younger witch as they sipped their breakfast tea in silence in Hermione's room with a small tray of biscuits and scones between them. Over the last few days, she noticed that Hermione's appetite had increased, which was a good thing but now she started eating out of a nervous habit and all over a young man. Oh to be young again.
McGonagall lowered her porcelain cup as the other buttered her third scone, "You are still the brightest witch of you age, but sometimes you can be a bit thick in the head."
Hermione paused in her buttering as she noticed her hands were shaking a bit and calmed herself as she set the plate down. "And to what are you referring to?"
"I am speaking of your feelings about the young mister Malfoy," McGonagall spoke as she lowered her face to look down, over the top of her glasses. Hermione slightly blushed, tucked a strand of loose hair behind her ear and began to deny but the McGonagall continued, "I have been listening to you over the past couple years and deep down, you saw the ending of your relationship with Harry."
Hermione lowered her eyes and clinched her hands together and replied, "Maybe, but it's only been a few months, I can't possibly be in love with someone else so soon."
"No one is a true expert on love. No one can truly say when the 'right' time to be in love is; all we can listen to is our heart. What does your say?"
"I do miss Draco's company and to be perfectly honest, his handsome face," Hermione spoke as she looked into the older witch's eyes and frustration began to rise inside of herself. "What do I do now? Show up on his doorstep professing my undying love."
McGonagall took another sip of tea and then replied, "Only if you truly feel that way. I simply advised that you listen to your heart and be open to whatever may happen."
That statement surprised Hermione and McGonagall rose to her feet as Hermione eyed her suspiciously, "Are you up to something, ma'am?"
"Up to something?" The headmistress asked with a hand to her chest as she paused to take the tray of food with her. "One does not have to be a Slytherin to be cunning, my dear. Enjoy the day."
