We broke up, yeah it's tough, most guys woulda been crushed. Wastin' their time, wondering where they went wrong. No way, not me. Hey I'm doin just fine. I'm, not afraid of moving on. It's easy, goin out on Friday night. Easy, every time I see her out. I can smile, live it up, the way a single guy does. But what she, what she don't know. Is how hard it is to make it look so, easy.
The truth is, I miss layin in those arms of his, but I don't ever let it show. I laugh, and I act like I'm having the time of my life. As far as he knows. It's easy, goin out on Friday night. Easy, every time I see him out. I can smile, live it up, the way a single girl does. But what he, what he don't know. Is how hard it is to make it look so easy."
-"Easy", Rascal Flatts Ft. Natasha Bedingfield
Leo stands by the bar. He watches Percy and Annabeth, Frank and Hazel, Jason and Piper, joking around, dancing. He was single, again. He and Michelle had broken up, mostly mutually, about three months prior. And so far, it'd been pretty easy, he could kiss who he wanted, when he wanted, he could dance with whoever, whenever. And he had moved on so easily.
So he thought.
Minutes later, she walks in. She's dyed her long, light brown hair. It's black and bright blue, next to her, as always, is her twin sister, Nik, who's hair is still light brown. You can still tell they're twins, though, that was a definite. On her other side was her best friend, Kyra, whom's short hair was black and red again. The girl on either side of Michelle were holding hands with their respectful boyfriends. Leo catches Michelle's eyes and she smiles, then turns away and runs into the arms of some blond guy. They laugh and he pecks the top of her head. She looks up at him like he's her world. Leo clears his throat and stepped from the bar, spotting a girl with cinnamon toast-colored hair. He kindly asks her to dance, and she smiles and agrees.
"I'm Caly."
"Leo Valdez. You have a beautiful name."
She blushes, "Thank you."
Leo spins her and sees Michelle and her blond friend laughing. Nico and Kyra are nearby, smiling at each other secretly while Kyra tries to get Nico to dance. Nik and Connor are by the bar, joking around and sipping Cokes. Leo keeps spinning (What was her name? Carly?) his partner and smiles down at her. After a few songs he proclaims he needs a drink, and meets the guys by the bar. Percy, Jason, Frank, Connor, and Nico give him different looks when he comes over, but most are forms of disappointment. (Nico's glaring disappointment, but it's disappointment, nonetheless.)
"Dude," Jason, his own best friend begins, "Michelle is right over there."
"Yeah, and she's enjoying herself. So why can't I?"
"Because you know she really isn't enjoying herself, buddy."
Percy looks up from his mysteriously blue Coke and nods, "Yeah, Leo, way uncool. I know it was three months ago, but shouldn't you two've gotten back together yet? When you were together you could barely go three hours without contact, let alone three months."
"Well, she decided-"
"Don't pin it all on her." Connor pipes up, probably on behalf of his future sister-in-law and all.
"She did. I wanted to work things out, but she didn't think she could handle it anymore."
"You said the split was mutual." Nico points out from the outskirts of the group. He's brooding because he has to associate while his girlfriend's in the bathroom with the other girls.
"It was. She wanted to split and I told her that if she didn't want to work things out then that was fine with me."
"Sounds like she did the dumping, dude." Frank mutters from somewhere behind Percy.
"You wanna come out and say that to my face, Zhang?" Leo asks angrily, balling his hands into fists and hopping down from his stool.
Frank hops down from his own stool and looks Leo in the eyes, "I said," he begins, taking a couple more steps towards Leo. "It sounds like she dumped you. It's natural to want her back."
"Except I don't."
That got him accusing glares all around.
"Okay," he relents, "So what if she dumped me? Doesn't mean I have to want her back."
"But you do." The guys all chime, even Nico.
Leo leans against his stool again with a sigh.
"So what if I do? She's got Tall, Blond, and Perfect over there."
"That's Will, and he's more like her brother than her boyfriend." Nico mutters. He would probably know.
"So? It's not like she'd let me close enough to talk to her anyway."
Percy bumps his knee against Leo's shoulder. "Try, dude."
Leo steels himself and heads over to his ex on the dance floor.
Michelle can't believe she let Nik talk her into this. They were at a dance club on a Friday night and she was in some skimpy black dress Nik had made her wear. She wanted to be home, watching Arrow in her PJ's and eating ice cream, was that so much to ask? Now she's within a twenty-foot radius of her ex-boyfriend. When no one was watching her, she slammed her face into a wall. Kyra pulled her away from the wall and smiled sadly at her, "You okay Chelle?"
"Fine." she grumbles back. She looked up at the sign outside of the club and rubbed her temples, praying Leo wouldn't be at his typical Friday night place this Friday of all Fridays. Friday. Kyra smiles at her and pokes her side, making her laugh a little. On Kyra's other side is her boyfriend Nico, who Michelle smiles at and pats his chest. "Good Neeks." she tells him with a smirk.
Kyra was lucky, she was wearing jeans and combat boots and chains with her favorite Grave Robbers t-shirt, while Michelle herself was stuck in a black dress that stopped mid-thigh. Kyra also carried a bag, because as soon as she could Michelle was gonna ditch Nik and change.
A few minutes later, they were in the club doors and Michelle had smiled to Percy over Leo's head. Nik had gone to get a drink with Connor while Kyra and she made a beeline for the ladies' room. There, she changed into ripped skinny jeans, an Icon For Hire tank top and her own combat boots. After she did her dark make-up, Michelle and Kyra left the restrooms, where Michelle made eye contact with Leo and smiled at him, before running into Will's arms. She laughed as she asked him what he was doing here.
"Kyra told me you might need some backup in case Leo was here." he told her as he kissed the top of her head. "I really liked your dress by the way."
Michelle wrinkles up her nose and rolls her eyes. "Whatever Solace. Can we dance?" Before getting a reply from Will she turns to Kyra, "Get Nico to come and dance."
Will takes her hand and spins her into his arms. "Yeah, we can dance."
She laughs and twirls around the floor with him, they pretend to ballroom dance and tango to the fast electronic beat before Michelle sees Leo and the boys, specifically, her friend-boys, having some kind of boy-meeting at the bar. Nik is yelling at her about changing but Michelle just raises a brow and nods to her sister's attire. Nik is wearing electric blue jeans and a black strapless top.
"Because I should take dress advice from my sister who hates dresses." Michelle responds to all of Nik's yelling.
Nik smiles back "Touche."
Michelle had pretended not to notice the girl with cinnamon toast-colored hair Leo had been dancing with earlier. Honestly, it was because she missed being in those arms herself and she didn't want to puke on Will. So she didn't let it show. She'll laugh and act like she's having all the fun in the world, just prove a point. While the boys are meeting at the bar, the ladies decide to meet in the bathroom. She squeals when she sees Piper and hugs her, "Piper! It's been too long. How's Jase?"
"Jase is fine." Piper smiles. "And how about you? You look great, even though I wish you hadn't dyed your hair black, it was such a pretty auburn."
Michelle laughs, "Thanks, but I like it black."
Annabeth and Hazel say and hi and Michelle hugs Hazel after asking about Frank. Nik and Kyra file in shortly and they all start talking about Michelle's breakup, because what else should they talk about when the exes were in the same building?
"So, Shell," Piper starts, "What's with you and Leo?"
"We broke up three months ago." Michelle responds flippantly.
"We know that." Annabeth states. "She means why are you guys even in the same vicinity?"
Ahh, Annabeth, using her vocabulary skills even in a dire situation of the heart.
"Because Nik dragged me here. I would much rather be home watching Netflix and eating Reese's cups."
Nik shrugs, "Guilty. But c'mon, you soooo wanna be here. You miss Leo."
"And who said he missed me?"
"Nico." Kyra speaks up at last.
"Jason." chimes in Piper.
"Frank." Hazel joins in.
"Percy." Annabeth gives.
"Connor." Nik offers.
"Leo misses me?"
"You guys were inseparable." Piper claims. "And I know these things, you guys are supposed to be together. This is just a stupid bump."
"I don't think so."
"What even happened?"
"He was being a bigger idiot than usual, okay? And he told me…" she takes a shuddering breath, "He told me the only reason he'd ever asked me out in the first place was because-" another scattered breath, "Nik was taken." she falls to the linoleum floor and puts her face in her knees. "I'm sho shtupid." she says, her voice muffled.
Kyra falls to her side and hugs her, looking up at the others like, What do we do?
Nik sits on Michelle's other side and hugs her. "That can't be true, why would you guys be together for three years if he just wanted to date you because you were my twin?"
"Because maybe the actual reason is worse." Annabeth muses.
Michelle's head pops up, "What?" she narrows her eyes as they blaze into Annabeth's gray ones. "Why did he actually ask me out?"
"Percy dared him to. He was worried you were, becoming depressed because you were so lonely."
"So I was a pity date, for three years I was a pity date?!" she roars and storms out of the bathroom, stomping up to Leo and smacking him across the face. "I was a freaking pity date?!"
Leo glares at Percy, "This is all your fault."
Percy's sea-green eyes widen, "What?"
"You dared Leo to ask me out because I was quote-unquote "lonely"!"
"Chelle-" Leo starts, but Michelle flicks her gaze back to him and cuts him off. "I can't believe this." Her eyes soften before turning to ice again, "I trusted you and you shattered me."
"You broke up with me."
"Because you originally said you only wanted Nik."
"At first! I said 'at first'! But you didn't wanna hear it!"
"I hate you!"
Everything seems to stop then. The girls had been watching from the outskirts of the group, the boys had just been watching the fury flash between them like a tennis match, and Leo's eyes turn to hardened charcoal. "Good." he mutters darkly, "I hate you too."
Michelle turns then, hitting him in the face with her hair and flounces away to Will, where she takes his hand and leads him to the door. "C'mon." she tells him. "You're taking me home." She walks down the steps and loses her loosened combat boot, but doesn't stop to care. She just needs to go.
He can't believe that just happened. And in mere seconds he's taking off after her. By the time he gets to the steps she's long gone. But he finds her boot. And prays it'll lead them back again.
"I found your boot!" Kyra cries over the phone. "Leo has it."
"WIll you get it for me, please?" she begs.
"Nope. You have to go get it yourself and work this out with him."
Michelle groans. It's only a week after the club fiasco and she just wants to stuff her face with ice cream. "Fine. But I'm only going to get my boot."
"Fine." Michelle can hear Kyra's smile.
Ten minutes later she knocks on his door without a second thought. Leo opens it with his toothbrush sticking out of his mouth and Michelle sighs.
"I want my boot back Leo."
"Ohkray." he says, wandering back into the apartment to spit out his toothpaste and finish what he started. He comes back and gestures into the house, "Would you like to come in?"
"I just want my boot."
"Well I want to apologize for-"
"Stop. Just give me my boot."
"Not until you forgive me for screwing up. The truth is I miss you like crazy, Chelle. I wander this house and sometimes I imagine you leaning against a wall, just looking at me the way you used to. I love you more than anyone else, you know that? And I know I'm an idiot but I wanna-"
She silences him by smothering him with a kiss.
"I love you, too. And I'm sorry about accusing you and being ignorant and not listening to you. I've missed you so much and it's sucked, Lee."
"I wanna be your idiot again, Ice Queen."
"Good, because I want you to be my idiot, Fire Lord."
He bends down and places the boot on her socked foot and tying it on before kissing her again.
"And I really missed my boot."
This wasn't as good as I thought it was, BUT, I hope you like it anyway. Rascal Flatts have been inspiring some LeChelle for me recently. And this really cool play I was apart of once has this song and I want to do LeChelle with it so maybe I'll do that. IDK, I have more songfics to post, after I finish them. xP
