song: dragon by Alyson Stoner, (if you don't know about it, check it out, so good!)

chapter five

Close to three years had gone by since Moose had put his heart on the line by surprising Camille at the airport.

Sometimes he'd dream of that moment, her flush against him, his hands smoothing along her warm skin, her soft lips parting as they kissed.

It was heaven, the way she gazed up into his eyes, it was as if they were the only two people left in the world.

He'd wake in a dizzy haze, his body painfully hard, reacting to having her so close, and then as always reality would clear his sleepy mind, waking him to the cold stark painful moment when Jason, her boyfriend showed up.

He didn't have the dream every night, but when it would happened it hurt just as much as that horrible, humiliating moment.

(the dream)

His lips parted as he tossed to his side in his bed, covered in sweat, he could taste her on the tip of his tongue as she tilted her head to the side deepening their kiss.

Shivering, his innocent big brown eyes opened slightly, needing to see her, to believe it was all real.

She was beautiful, fitting perfectly in his hands, with curves in all the right places, driving his body into a state of urgency as he boldly pressed her close letting her feel just how much she was affecting him.

The music swelled just as she released a slight whisper of a moan that made his knees nearly buckle.

"Cam - "

Just then the dream dissipated into the nightmare of day as her boyfriend's voice echoed into head.

His eyes flew open as he sat up in bed, his heart pounding as the rush of pain hit him like a ton of bricks.

Sighing hard he fell back, crossing his arms over his face shielding his eyes from the bright California sun as his cell vibrated loudly on his nightstand.

Groaning he lifted the covers looking down at the painful evidence of the hold she still had on him.

Shaking it off he picked up his cell, trying to do what he had forced himself to do since that night, move on.

Life had completely changed for him, or maybe it was him that changed.

Refusing to put his heart on the line like that again he began to act like most guys his age.

Casual hook ups and meaningless short term relationships was all his was interested in.

Shelley, the hot surfer girl was the first of many, his goal was simple, have fun, and don't let any one get close, as if anyone but her could.

Make no mistake, he was very upfront about his intentions, any girl that was with him understood going into it that he wasn't interested in anything long term.

Moose wanted to have fun, but he would never our right hurt anyone, that wasn't even a possibility, he had a kind heart, a romantic heart, no matter how hard he worked to hide it, it would always be there, waiting patiently for her.

Stretching, he raised his blinds to reveal the view of the ocean's edge that could be seen from his bedroom.

He was twenty now, but he wasn't ready to leave the comfort and security of his family, they were very close, but his parents were great about giving him his privacy, so there was no need to leave the nest just yet.

Today he was due at the set to film his cameo for Step up Revolution, it was a small part but he knew it he could make it his own, the director was great giving him license to improvise a little, so he was really looking forward being involved in the project.

To be honest he was also tremendously relieved that this movie didn't feature the continuation of Moose and Camille's relationship, he couldn't imagine being on set with her after everything, having to act as if they were in love when she was off with Jason, or whoever it was these days.

He thought back remembering how she attempted to call him several times after the incident, there was one voice mail that she left that he refuse to listen to, that was still in his phone till this day, he just couldn't stand hearing the, 'I only see you as a friend' speech.

It was very clear that night, she was serious with this guy, she made her choice.

Cringing, he could still felt the sting of humiliation remembering how he ran into her boyfriend, he was exactly the guy Moose could picture her with, much older, tall, handsome, a man who was clearly well established in life, not some kid still living with his parents.

Taking a deep breath he looked down at the text from Maria, his newest girl.

have time to meet tonight? ;)

Needing to get the memory out of his head he quickly typed as he grabbed his clothes for a shower.

It was almost eight at night when he finally got home from filming, it had gone great, he wasn't familiar with the knew cast except for a few dancers that had been brought back from the previous movies, but they were all crazy happy to have him there.

He was even given a few lines, which he wasn't expecting. It wasn't a big part like the last movie, but he was happy to be wanted back, he thought it was a good sign, especially since they were already writing the next installment.

Searching through his closet for a change of clothes, his mind drifted to Maria, she was a freshmen in college, a cute little blonde who he had met at a club one night after closing.

It was an unconscious rule that he only dated blondes, he couldn't handle being with anyone that resembled her.

Moose had caught her checking him out as he took the floor with his friends giving the crowd a show, she had pretty green eyes that flickered bright every time the lights flashed by her.

She had a short pixie cut and a beautiful smile, she lived at home with very strict parents, which usually meant that they barely saw each other, which was fine with him… remember, casual.

With the dream far from his mind after an awesome day, he was happy as he spun around to give his mom a kiss on the cheek.

"I won't be late, her parents are home tonight, Maria's dad will be watching me like a hawk."

"Good." His mom shook the top of his black curls, teasing her beautiful, sweet son knowing that he was a good kid, that she had nothing to worry about.

Jumping in his car he took off for the twenty minute drive singing to every song that came on the radio, he was in a good mood, life was going just as it should, he had no worries, he thought to himself as he pulled into the long driveway leading to Maria's house.

With his hand on the handle of the car he suddenly heard the chirp of his cell go off.

Leaning back into seat, in the darkness, his handsome face, that was looking older every day, lit up with words from his agent that almost stopped his heart.

Moose, got a call from Cam

she's shooting a video for her new single Dragon

wants to know if you're available to be the lead dancer.

Give me a call

Dan

His pulse began racing out of control as his head fell back against the seat, instantly he was right back where he didn't want to be, thinking of her.

Why? After all this time would she want this? he groaned inside, as he hesitantly opened the screen with his photos. He stared at the two of them sitting on the steps before their big dance number, 'I don't dance.'

That time was so special, they were so close, they could tell each other anything, he never felt that way with anyone, and now he was beginning to wonder if he ever would.

Moose's head was spinning, a part of him felt terrible that she felt the need to go through his agent instead of just calling him.

His eyes slid shut realizing that she most likely did that because he never returned her calls, or even listened to that voice mail.

Slamming his hand on his steering wheel he swore, hating that even their friendship had been ruined by all of this.

Looking at the time, he realized that he was going to be late for Maria, worse he realized that he didn't even want to go in.

Without even thinking about it he sent a quick text before quietly turning the car around and going home.

Sorry, family emergency

have to cancel

ttyl

He did feel bad, Moose wasn't the kind of guy to stand a girl up, but it was like his brain was on autopilot, he had to think about all this, there was no way he could sit on the couch and watch a movie with her parents staring at him after this.

One month later…

He had thought long and hard about dancing with her again, it practically took over his life for two weeks, until he was finally forced to make a decision.

Every time he imagined it, he'd picture the way she'd smile when he made her laugh, it melted his heart how she'd blush, looking away, or down, as if she was afraid he'd see just how much he was affecting her.

That smile, that look, it was just for him, always.

He'd remember how great they were together, how effortless it was, it was pure chemistry, magic in its truest form.

That's why he couldn't do it, there would be no faking that how hurt he was, how he still wanted her, there was no way to be professional about this, and he couldn't do that to her.

So it was a big mystery to him why he was sitting outside that huge warehouse, at midnight, in New York City for the last three hours hearing the booming rhythm of her song vibrating over and over again through the brick facade of the building.

His knee was jumping nervously knowing she was just a few floors above him, he was sure that he had seen her shadow dance across one the windows, he thought about the guy they did end up hiring, how he was with her right now, it was killing him.

Pacing back and forth he couldn't take it any longer as he jumped quickly up the seven steps to the first floor.

Once inside he found his courage, he was sure that there had to be a way to just hang back, blending in with the huge crowd he was sure was up there.

Being in the business he knew how much was involved, sound, camera's wardrobe, etc.

He was sure he could just be invisible in a dark corner, all he wanted was a glimpse of her, just to see her one more time.

It had been a few years, thinking it out he realized it was close to three years, he knew how much he had changed, he was beyond curious to see her now.

Quickly finding the huge service elevator his hands ran over the lever trying to guess how it worked before a guy jumped in with him confidently pulling the wooden door down, as if he had been there before.

"Heading up to the shoot?"

Raising his eyebrows, he just nodded, afraid that he would be recognized, which would be a total disaster.

"Cool."

Before he knew it the elevator began to move, faster than he imagined he was there as music blared vibrating off of the high ceilings and expansive space.

The guy beside him got off immediately, moving to join a group of kids in the corner that were quietly watching with their phones in the air recording it all.

Moose went to step off the elevator when suddenly he heard her, her voice shot through him like lightning, as the recording displayed a much older, more mature voice from the girl he once knew.

xxxxxxxxxx

Step into the dragon's lair

If it's too hot get out of here

Don't you act like you don't care

When you see me standing there

xxxxxxxxxxx

His body automatically began to move slightly, unable to resist the driving beat as dance moves ran through his mind, it was who he was, his body couldn't resist as he quietly found an empty dark corner.

xxxxxxxxxxxx

Always running hot and cold

Up and down and back and forth

You hear yes when I say no

Round and round, away we go

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

His feet were sliding back and forth as his head bobbed to the beautiful voice that was sailing like velvet through the air all around him.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We agree to disagree

But were you ever meant for me

I don't know, I don't know

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I will not apologize

For packing up my life and leaving

And I can't waste any more time

Waiting for you to call me, baby

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

He did his best to find her among the crowd, moving all around in front of him, but between the bright lights, and camera crew it was impossible to see her.

He could tell where she was by the direction everyone was looking, but he couldn't see her face, she was so close but just out of reach.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

That's what you wanted, that's what you wanted

That's what you wanted, that's what you're gonna get

That's what you wanted, that's what you wanted

That's what you wanted, that's what you're gonna get

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Moving back further, he couldn't help himself as he lost himself in the music, in her voice, it took control over him as he dipped his shoulder down while his back foot slid across the floor, and back again.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You think you're a dragon slayer

But I don't think you can compare

After all the smoke is clear

Take a look into the mirror

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

He knew exactly how he would've danced with her, around her, he was hating himself for being so petty, suddenly feeling horribly guilty for turning her down, for being such a kid about everything.

He couldn't imagine what she must've thought of him saying no, it was obviously a peace offering, a way to get their friendship back on course.

It was at that point when the cameras moved to film the dancers from a side angle that he saw the gorgeous woman dancing out in front, in the middle of everyone singing, singing her song.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Always running hot and cold

Up and down and back and forth

You hear yes when I say no

Round and round and round, away we go

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Moose froze, his arms fell to his side, his jaw to the floor, completely stunned, he backed up against the wall unable to tear his eyes away from her.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We agree to disagree

But were you ever meant for me

I don't know, I don't know

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

He couldn't believe it was her, the insecure girl that was so worried about everything, that needed comfort and reassurance, needing to please everyone around her had disappeared.

In her place was a confident, bold, sexy, beautiful woman that dominated the dance floor with every move, every glance to the camera leaving everyone in the room mesmerized by her, including him.

A silent whisper of her name fell from his lips as he stood breathless, his intense stare not leaving her body for one second, as she swayed her hips side to side.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I will not apologize

For packing up my life and leaving

And I can't waste any more time

Waiting for you to call me, baby

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Suddenly he heard the director call Camille out, asking her to take her place near David, as if they had done this a million times, always the professional, Camille moved towards him, going with the beat, as he splayed his hand across her bare midrift dancing with her, behind her.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

That's what you wanted, that's what you wanted

That's what you wanted, that's what you're gonna get

That's what you wanted, that's what you wanted

That's what you wanted, that's what you're gonna get

(that's what you wanted)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There's no turning back here, baby

'cause you're the one who did this to me

give me one good reason that I shouldn't run from ya

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

All the oxygen left Moose's lungs as it hit him, this David was his replacement.

It felt as though someone punched him in the gut realizing that it could've been him dancing with her so close, it was intimate, sexual, complete polar opposite of their dance in the movie.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There's no time to second guess

Oh, baby, you should hold your breath

This is when I save myself

I'm better off without you

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I will not apologize (wooooah)

For packing up my life and leaving (better off without you)

And I can't waste any more time (wooooah)

Waiting for you to call me baby (better off without you)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

He couldn't take it anymore, she was sultry, hot, beyond what he could've ever dreamed of.

His gut twisted knowing that it should've been him dancing with her, he would've known just how to dance around her, he could've made it special, so unique to her, he felt like a selfish immature child.

He needed to get the hell out of there before she saw him, before he embarrassed himself any further.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I will not apologize

For packing up my life and leaving

And I can't waste any more time (wooooah)

Waiting for you to call me baby (wooooah)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Suddenly there was a huge roar as everyone began clapping, they were celebrating, it was over.

'Shit!' he breathed out to himself as he took off for the elevator only to turn back when he saw the crowd all around the door, people were coming and going there was no way no one would've not recognized him.

Moving fast looking for another way out he lost her in the maze of people surrounding her.

Talking nervously in his head wondering why he showed up in the first place, he began to panic, he would die if she saw him now, this was a nightmare.

Lost as to where the hell he was he found himself going through a door marked, emergency stairway

Thank god, he thought to himself, just few floors and he would be gone, back in a cab, and soon back on a plane far away from New York.

Shoving the door open he grabbed onto the landing taking a second to breathe before putting his foot on the first step.

"Leaving so soon?"

His expressive brown eyes widened as his teeth clamped down on his bottom lip.

It was her, the soft, velvet voice he was just listening to was standing right in back of him.

Lowering his head, he turned around slowly to find her standing against the cement wall on the landing as the big metal door slammed shut leaving them alone together.

Swallowing hard, trying with great pain to remember how to speak, he couldn't help but rake his eyes over her in awe.

She was glistening with sweat, her long silky dark hair flowed over her bare shoulders, curls fell over her chest as it rose quickly up and down.

"Hi Cam, youwow… I don't even know what to say, you were - I-I mean are amazing. You've really grown up…. you look... beautiful."

Brushing off his complement, taking him in herself and how he had changed, it was clear muscles had developed replacing his boyish body, even through his clothes it was obvious.

Camille couldn't help but notice that besides all that, he still had that sweet glint of mischief in his eyes, and a smile that was so warm it caused all the years they spent apart to instantly fade away.

Tilting her head to the side she grinned slightly, as if she had a secret she was keeping from him, something that was just behind her coy dark gaze.

"You look… different too."

Feeling extremely shy suddenly, he took a big breath looking immediately at his feet wondering what she really thought of him.

Just then she took two long strides towards him as if she owned the the space around them, her chin was high, her body moving with a self assurance that was so hot, it left him dying inside.

Shrugging slightly he anxiously averted his gaze afraid she'd see right through him, little did she know she already had.

Pressing her hand against his chest she waited patiently until he found the courage to look her in the eyes.

Smirking slyly again, she slid her arm around his neck while keeping the other hand pressed to his heart as she hugged him tight.

Immediately he wrapped his arms around her lowering his head realizing that he had gotten much taller than the last time they were together.

Drifting her parted lips to his ear she rasped with a silky tone that made his fingers curl into her skin.

"It should've been you."

His eyes slid shut feeling the heat of her breath waft across his neck as she continued.

"We would've been great together… you know… exactly… how to move with me."

His hands traveled on their own, one smoothing up her back to lace through her curls, the other pressed gently against the small of her back molding her to his body.

He couldn't believe this was happening after all these years of dreaming of her, of being tormented by the memory of holding her, only to find her in his arms once again.

"I'm sorry Cam, you're right. It should've been me. It wasn't easy to watch that… him, with you."

Sighing softly she slowly moved back to face him, looking into his eyes seriously, all play had left her expression as she lifted her crimson lips close to his.

"Are you booked at a hotel?"

His stare fell to her mouth, it was out of his control, it was clear what they both needed.

Licking his lips wanting so badly to kiss her he whispered a quiet 'no,'

Tilting her head to the side she curled her fingers through the back of his hair gently easing his gaze back to her eyes.

"Stay with me."
