Rin
I was walking Hinata home from the Ramen stand when we ran into Neji.
"Hi Neji." I greeted.
When he saw me with Hinata his eyes narrowed.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing." He replied, but he took Hinata by the hand, "We should get going. Thanks for walking her home."
"No problem..." I said eyeing Neji suspiciously. Seriously, what's his problem?
They disappeared into the compound and I was left alone… I think. The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up. I felt like someone was watching me. I looked up and down the street, which was abandoned. I shrugged, and made my way home.
Walking at night was sooooo much cooler than it was during the day. No sun, and a nice breeze. If only it was raining. I thought. I love rain! It's cool and refreshing.
I started thinking about what Hinata had said to me. Should I visit the Uchiha compound? Hmmmm, it could hold important facts, but then again, are they really things I need to know? Maybe I could find out something about my screwed up family, I thought jokingly.
"God damn it!" I shouted, "This is so frustrating!"
Calm down Rin. You can figure out all of this, yeah just think about the events you know and make a connection. Okay so:
Given away by stupid dad.
Given to Danzo
Then given to Orochimaru
Experimen—
"This is too long I need paper." I said out loud. I looked around and realized I have no idea where I am. Shit. I was at some bridge. Wait, I know this bridge I thought, this is where Team 7 would meet. I smiled to myself. Perfect thinking place. I sat down on the bridge railing and pulled a pencil and notepad from my ninja pouch.
"Okay," I told myself, "Here we go"
Age 4: Given away by stupid dad.
Given to Danzo
Age: 5 Memories sealed: Given to Orochimaru
Age 5-12: Experimented on
Age 12: given curse mark
Age 13: escaped :D but stuck with amnesia :(
FIND OUT PAST
"Lovely childhood." I muttered to myself. Are the experiments what cause my eye to turn blue? I sighed and shoved the notebook and pencil into my pouch. I'll add to it when I remember stuff.
I looked up at the moon and saw leaves flowing in the wind. Sighing I got off the railing.
"Let's go for a stroll." I said out loud. God, I sound schizophrenic.
I walked around for about 2 more hours before I finally got home, by then it was 11 and I was in need of sleep.
I sighed, today was Sunday and I was all alone, and when your alone you tend to be bored. Sasuke left with his team on a mission, which I was not allowed to go on by the way. Stupid Tsunade. So I was left alone.
I contemplated going to hang out with Hinata, but I didn't feel like dealing with those guards at the gate again. I could hang out with Tenten, but I didn't want to see Lee, he's a little intense. I could go see Ino, but she's a little too girly for my tastes. I groaned and fell back onto my bed.
Maybe I'll just have a lazy day, I thought.
I stayed in bed for about 5 more minutes before I decided this was too boring. God, what the hell am I suppost to do? Most people read or draw, sing or even clean when there bored but I don't like to read, I have no artistic skills whatsoever, my singing sounds like a ostrich getting strangled and well…. cleanings just not my thing. The apartment looked clean enough anyway.
I got off my bed and made my way to the door. Training it is.
Okay, so if I'm correct I'm suppost to be able to use all the elements, I thought.
"Okay, lets try fire then." I made the signs for a simple fireball jutsu. I built the chakra in my lungs and blew. I was expecting a fireball jutsu, but sadly my expectations were waaaaay off. Instead, the jutsu blew up right in my face and I ate dirt.
I coughed a few times before I could see through the dust, "Well that was impressive." I thought sarcastically.
I tried the jutsu several more times, but they kept ending up the same. Finally on the 10th time, I gave up after the explosion sent me flying into a tree.
"Screw it!" I yelled frustrated. "I can't use fire!" I was sweaty, tired and I smelt like burnt toast.
Let's try a new element. How about water? I know I can use that one. I made the signs for a water dragon and what'd ya know it worked. Water was easy to use, but fire wasn't. Hahaha how ironic, an Uchiha can't use fire style.
"Okay, next up!" I shouted, feeling my second wind. Earth!
"Earth release jutsu!" I shouted as I slammed my hand on the ground. The ground in front of me became a sinkhole and swallowed up all the rocks and grass around it.
"Yes! Earth is still a go!" I jumped up doing a fist pump. Three down, two to go.
"Lightning Release: Electron Technique!" I yelled. Sparks of yellow electricity formed in both of my hands and I grinned. I threw them at the nearest tree and upon impact, the tree exploded.
"I'm getting pretty good at this." I grinned.
Last one, wind. I took a deep breath.
"Wind Release: Snapping Air Bullet!" as soon as I performed the last hand sign a gust of wind ripped through the training field, that would've been cool, but that wasn't suppost to happen.
"What the—" the gust of wind hit me and I flew back. I slammed into a nearby rock and got the wind knocked out of me. I groaned lying motionless on the floor, trying to catch my breath.
"Hate. Wind." I muttered.
After a couple of minutes I could finally breath normally.
"Well this was a productive day." I joked, so far i had discovered i can't use fire and wind, but all the other elements seem to be working just fine. I wonder what happened to me.
I got up and stretched. When I took a good look around I realized I remembered this place. I walked in a direction and didn't stop till I got to what I was looking for. Found it! It was the place where Itachi showed of his kunai accuracy to Sasuke and me. There were multiple targets, and one was in a blind spot behind a boulder. The targets were still in pretty good shape. I smirked lets see what I can do.
After about two hours of kunai training, my accuracy wasn't exactly the best okay? I headed home. I was gonna go back tomorrow and maybe I would finally be able to get it! That stupid blind spot behind the rock was the one target I kept missing!
Overall, I was in a pretty good mood, but I was also in need of a shower.
I had just finished drying my hair when I heard a knock at the door.
"Come in!" I yelled. I heard the door open and multiple footsteps. I peeked my head out of the bathroom and saw Hinata and Tenten.
"Oh hi guys!" I greeted.
"H-hi" Hinata stuttered.
"Hey," Tenten replied. "Our teams were going out for dinner and we wanted to know if you would join us."
"What about Ino's team?" I asked.
"They're going out for BBQ…again. We wanted to go out for dumplings."
"Sure, why not?" I grabbed my ninja pouch, which had my wallet. "Sounds like fun."
"Great!" Tenten's smile looked a bit strained.
"Are you okay, Tenten?" I asked.
"What? Oh, yeah I'm fine, perfectly fine."
I quirked an eyebrow at her but didn't say anything else.
When we arrived the guys had already gotten a table.
"Hey guys." Tenten waved and sat beside Neji.
The table was split into teams, Tenten's on one side and Hinata's on the other. I decided to sit next to Hinata.
"So Hinata, how do I get into the compound if I want to see you?" I asked.
She kind of tensed, but then relaxed. "You can just tell the guard to come and get me, tell him you're my friend, only Hyugas are suppost to go into the compound."
I nodded "I just hope the next time I go the guard will be nicer." I joked.
She gave a nervous laugh.
I scrunched my eyebrows "Why is everyone so weird?" I thought. The waiter came and took everyone's orders when he left I looked up and noticed Neji glaring at me. Why is it that every time I go to dinner in a group someone always ends up glaring at me from across the table? First Sasuke at the BBQ house, now Neji at the dumpling restaurant! What's next Shikamaru at the curry house?!
"What?" I asked Neji.
"Nothing." he replied calmly and began to talk to Kiba and Shino.
I scowled at him, but then shrugged. At least Neji was acting normal, as the jerk that has an eye problem.
"Where's Lee?" I asked Tenten.
"Training with Master Guy."
I gave a little breath of relief, Lee creped me out, and the things Sakura told me about him wasn't helping.
"So you work for Orochimaru?" Neji asked. It suddenly got quiet.
Everyone stared at Neji. After a few seconds of silence I burst out laughing, "You finally talk to me and that's what you ask?" I couldn't help it, he hasn't talked to me since I got here. I know he finds me suspicious and all, but asking straight up like that? I'm dying. I wiped the tears from my eyes.
I turned to Neji, "Correction, Hyuga, I DID work for Orochimaru."
Everyone's faces showed shock that I would answer so honestly.
I put my index finger to my lip in thought, "Well it is kinda hard not to work for him when someone steals you from your home, erases your memories, and gives you to a deranged snake man with no hopes of escaping."
Everyone's jaw dropped, astonishment written all over their faces. This was also the time the waiter showed up with everyone's food. When he left it was so awkwardly quiet.
"Itadakimasu." I said, and ate my pork dumplings.
I ended up walking Hinata home…. with Neji fallowing closely behind us.
"Sorry." Hinata said in a small voice.
"What for?" I asked confused.
"Dinner always seems to end badly." She sighed.
I laughed, "Well, at least this dinner didn't send me to the hospital."
She giggled, "Sorry about Neji."
I shrugged, "Well that's Neji for you, what can you do? The dumplings were worth his death glare though."
"You eat a lot."
I chuckled, "Yeah, I haven't tasted anything like this since…" I paused, "In a while." Dinners at Orochimaru's consisted of rice and some type of mystery meat, I think it was meat anyway.
Hinata's face dropped a little and she hesitated before saying, "You wanna hang out tomorrow?"
My face lit up "Sure. You can come over my house."
She seemed to contemplate it for a moment, but agreed to it nonetheless. We reached the gates to her compound; the guards bowed and greeted them.
"See you tomorrow!" I shouted as I walked away.
Hinata gave a small wave.
I smiled to myself, Hinata didn't stutter when she talked to me. I did a fist pump.
Hinata
"See you tomorrow!" Rin shouted as she walked away.
I gave a small wave.
When we got into the house Neji asked, "What did she mean that she'd see you tomorrow?"
I grimaced, "I-I'm going over to her house tomorrow."
"What?! Are you out of your mind?"
"It's fine Neji."
"I don't trust her."
"W-well I do. Plus, there are ANBU watching her, I'll be perfectly safe. So please, just be n-nicer, okay?"
Nejis eyes hardened, "Have you forgotten the mission?"
"N-no! I can gather intelligence tomorrow when I'm with her, okay?" I was about to go into my room when Neji caught my arm.
"Don't tell her anything got it?"
I became a little annoyed, "Of coarse, I didn't tell her how to get into the compound, right? Kiba and Shino get in all the time, as long as she doesn't see them entering or leaving we wont be caught."
He sighed, "Okay, okay. Just be careful, but if you're not back at this house by four I will come and get you myself." With that he let go my arm, turned and retreated to his room.
"Yes mom." I muttered to myself.
"I'm leaving!" I shouted as I walked out the door. I made my way to her apartment and knocked on the door.
"Come in!"
I opened the door and made my way inside. Rin was in the kitchen, making breakfast…. Or brunch in this case.
"Hey Hinata." Rin smiled.
"I didn't know you could cook."
She laughed, "I've been practicing, but I can't cook very well. Only the basics. I bought this cookbook earlier to try and practice. Which is why today were having… Egg rolls and Bacon!" she proudly presented the two plates.
I laughed, how could she be the sneaky, conniving spy?
I tasted the food, and it actually wasn't bad, the eggs were a little burnt, but it wasn't horrible. The bacon was delicious.
"So, how's the amnesia?" I asked.
She looked up at me with a mouthful of bacon. I laughed.
"It's okay, only little things are coming back to me though. Like some days at Orochimaru, they aren't that important." She said once she swallowed, "Mostly days where I'm locked in a room, I don't think I ever saw the outside of his hideout."
"Do you remember how you escaped?"
"No, not yet. That's the one I look forward to though."
We continued to eat in a comfortable silence. When we were done I didn't know what to do.
"Oh you wanna see something I found yesterday?" Rin asked.
"Sure."
She headed out the door and I followed. We got to the training field and I looked at her in confusion, but she continued walking into the forest area. We walked for a while until we came to an area with a bunch of targets.
"I was training yesterday when I remembered this place. I didn't know it was still here. Itachi used to show off to me and Sasuke." She had a sad smile on her face.
I looked around at all the targets. This was a pretty nice training section.
"Wanna try?" She asked me.
"Sure." I stepped to the spot she showed me and activated my byakugan. With this I could see the blind spot behind the tree, but I didn't know how to hit it if I stayed here. I launched into the air and hit all the targets, except for the ones behind the bolder. So I jumped over the bolder and hit it in midair.
When I turned towards Rin she looked shocked, and walked towards me. Her eyes never left mine. It was a little creepy. When she was in front of me she reached a hand up and I instinctively shrunk back and close my eyes. I felt her hands touch the side of my face and I opened them. She looked amazed.
"What's with your eyes?! Are you okay?! Your veins are popping out! And look you have pupils now!" Her face was so close to mine her shouting made my ears hurt. I burst out laughing.
"You've never seen a byakugan before?" I asked her.
She shook her head, "It looks painful."
"It's not, and all Hyugas have it."
"That is so disturbing." She laughed, "But you did this exercise wrong."
I scowled, "How do you do it then?"
She grinned, "Watch and learn."
She took the starting spot and activated her sharingan; it was so weird seeing someone besides Sasuke have it. She jumped and hit all the targets on the bulls-eye. When it came to the target behind the rock she took 2 kunais, threw one of them forward, then the other. The first one was hit by the second one and ricocheted to hit the target right on the bulls-eye. She landed gracefully on the ground.
I stared at her in shock that was amazing. I guess she really was like Sasuke. When Rin stood up I saw tears in her eyes.
"DID YOU SEE THAT HINATA?! I hit the target behind the rock! I did it! Yesssss! I was working on this all day yesterday, but I couldn't hit it. YES!" She was bouncing up and down. I sweat dropped; then again maybe she's not like Sasuke after all.
We stayed there for a while practicing. I could get all the targets, but not on the bulls-eye. It was well into noon by the time we stopped. We were lying in the training field under a tree and watching the clouds.
"Shikamaru likes to look at the clouds too." I mentioned.
"That lazy ass." She laughed. Now that I think about it Shikamaru would have been better at interrogation since he's good at puzzles and mind games.
Rin sighed contentedly, "This is nice." She smiled.
I turned my head to face her, "So, did you go to the Uchiha compound yet?"
"Mmm, not yet." She admitted.
I sat up to my elbows, "Really? Why not?"
She remained lying on her back, looking at the sky, and shrugged.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
She sighed, "Nothings wrong, I just don't feel like going, that's all."
I lied back down and looked up in thought, "But the Uchiha compound is probably the best place to look for your memories, right? I mean you remember your father giving you away and you weren't even at the compound at the time, so if you do go maybe you'll see why you were given awa—"
"I Know!"
Rin was now sitting up with her back towards me.
"That place…." She clenched her fist, "I despise it."
This surprised me, "Why?" I sat up and faced her.
Her body relaxed and she turned to me, her eyes were cloudy. "All the memories of that place that I have so far are terrible. Whenever I think about that place I feel irritated. I know there's more there, that's why I haven't gone."
"I could go with you if you're scared."
"It's not that I'm scared, it's more like I don't want to find out."
"Why would you not want to find out?"
She gave me a small smile, "Have you ever heard the expression: Ignorance is bliss?"
"Yeah."
She laughed, "That's how I think my situation is right now. So I feel like knowing everything would be…bad."
I became a bit confused, "Wouldn't you want to see it all though? To get the whole story."
Her eyes saddened, "But what if the whole story is what it looks like?"
"Well, what does it look like?"
"My family wanted to get rid of me." She whispered, barely audible.
"That's not possible!" I shouted, "Don't think like that!"
"Why not? People don't really seem to now."
"What are you saying? What about Sasuke?"
Her face darkened, "He made his choice a long time ago."
"Well what about everyone else? All the friends you made, we care about you."
She stood abruptly and I followed suit. Her eyes were shadowed so I couldn't see them.
"Oh really, were friends?" she asked darkly.
"Of coarse!"
She lifted her head and she wore a dry smile. "We should head back." She said while turning and walking in the direction of her house.
"What's wrong?" I asked trailing behind.
"Well it's getting late," it was only 3 though, "besides," she turned around and gave me a false smile, "all that information I gave you will take some time to rely to the elders, don't you think?"
I stopped dead in my tracks. She knew.
A cold wind blew through the field.
"You knew." I asked softly. She stopped and turned slowly, looking at me with a sad smile.
"How?" I asked.
"Last night, at dinner. Neji asked me about Orochimaru, remember? Nobody besides you, Kakashi-sensei, Tsunade, Danzo, and the Elders were aware of that fact. At first I suspected it was you that told him, but judging by everyone's reactions, they knew as well. You guys have been acting suspicious since yesterday. Everyone keeps asking me questions about my past. Last night after we parted I ran into Shikamaru and he questioned me as well, but his was more discreet, he's quiet good with words. That's when I knew it; all of you are just trying to get to know me as a mission or something, right? At first, I didn't think you were actually doing it, but after today you were far more social than most times. It's clear as day now." She turned and continued walking.
"Then what about all the things you've told me? Were they lies? The training area? The compound? Were you making it all up?" I chased after her.
"No, I wasn't." she answered softly, " I figured I was clean, so I wouldn't have to hide anything, but the moment you lied and said you were really my friend. That just pissed me off." She quickened her pace and I followed to try and explain, but I was at a loss for words.
We arrived at her house shortly and I followed her into her room. She stopped walking in the living room.
"What do you want?" she asked angrily.
"I just want to explain!".
"Forget it, there's nothing to explain. Just leave already."
"Rin! Please!" I begged. "It's not like that, I was just—"
All of a sudden I was tackled to the floor. I fell on my face and Rin landed on me, her arms covering my head. I was about to scream when the door in her living room that led to the balcony shattered. Glass scattered everywhere, Rin released me and I looked at her. Shards of glass had impaled her back.
"W-what? Why w-would y-you?" I stuttered.
"Good reflexes, Rin. You're as alert as alert as ever." Said a voice. I turned to the door and saw a girl with long black hair wearing the attire of Orochimarus henchmen standing in the door frame, "but this field trips over, it's time you to return to Orochimaru."
"Who're you?" Rin and I asked at the same time.
I turned to Rin, "You don't know her?" I questioned.
"Amnesia, stupid." She replied harshly.
"Amnesia, huh? Well that's gonna be a problem." The girl said. "Hey, Midori! Rin's got amnesia!" she shouted to someone outside.
"Where are the ANBU?" I thought.
Some boy with brown spiky hair appeared behind her, "It's a shame." He said, "I wanted to finally have a serious battle with my rival, but it'll do no good if she can't even remember how to fight." He said jokingly.
I looked on the balcony and saw all four ANBU lying dead on the floor, my eyes widened.
"Allow me to introduce us." Midori said, "I'm Midori and this is Tsubasa. Were here to take Rin back, and kill anyone that gets in our way." He smiled evilly at me.
Rins breathing was labored as she removed the shards in her back, "Piss off," she spat, "I'm not going with you guys."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, Rin. You really need to control that mouth of yours." Midori spoke.
"Like hell if I care."
"You really haven't changed." Tsubasa laughed.
"Hinata, run and get out of here." Rin whispered to me.
"N-no way." I protested quietly.
All of a sudden Rin was hefted off her feat and thrown against the wall, pinned by her neck. Midori laughed darkly.
"Trying to be a good guy now, are you? Too bad, you're just no the hero-ey type." He threw her down and kicked her in the stomach.
"Rin!" I shouted. I tried to move forward but Tsubasa grabbed me by the collar and whisked me back. She threw me backwards and I crashed into the table, breaking it and hitting my head on the cupboard behind it. My vision got blurry.
"What the hell?" Rin cursed, "Why does my apartment always get destroyed?"
Tsubasa took a step towards me. In a flash Rin stood in front of her. Midori laughed loudly, "You're friend won't be protected, Rin. She's gonna die and were dragging you back home with us."
"Then I'll go kicking and screaming." She muttered.
"R-Rin." I croaked.
"It's okay, Hinata. Everything will be fine."
"I wouldn't count on that." Tsubasa retorted, but before she could move Rin threw down a smoke bomb, picked me up and jumped out the balcony door.
"Where are we going?" I asked, weakened with my head pounding.
"The training ground. I'll be able to fight them there."
We landed in the training field and Rin put me down behind a tree. "Just hide here." She instructed. "I'll deal with this."
"Why are you saving me?" I questioned.
Her retreating figure stopped and she turned her head to face me.
"I think you're interpreting this wrong, it's not like I care for you. I just don't want to get in trouble for leaving you to die. That's all." She said emotionlessly as she turned away.
Rin
I stood calmly in the middle of the training field when Tsubasa and Midori caught up.
"Giving up are we?" Tsubasa asked.
I performed hand signs then thrust her hand at the two. Lightning shot towards them at the speed of light, but they both jumped out of the way. Tsubasa engaged me in hand-to-hand combat.
"Your reflexives have slowed." She teased. I blocked her fist, but she kicked me in the ribs. I slid to a halt. My breathing was ragged, I was too tired and my back was on fire. What the hell am I suppost to do?!
I flipped forward and dodged Midoris earth style.
"Not bad, squirt." He praised.
They were just trying to tire me out! I can't defeat the both of them.
"Shit." I muttered.
I hit the floor for the millionth time. I was utterly exhausted. We had been fighting for thirty minutes, and I was getting pumbled more and more every time.
"Tired already?" Midori asked, picking me up by the back of my collar. I was too exhausted to reply.
"You better cover some of her wounds or she'll bleed to death." Tsubasa said.
"She'll be fine." He was about to toss me over his shoulder when he froze, and started shaking.
"What's wrong?" Tsubasa asked.
"I c-can't move." His hand slowly released me and I slumped to the floor. What's going on?
"Hmm seems we made it in time." Shikamaru slowly stepped out from some bushes. Followed by everyone else, except for team 7.
Midori cursed and yelled "Tsubasa!"
"Right!" she replied. She lunged forward and everyone got into a fighting position, but instead of going for them, she picked me up and ran in the opposite direction.
"If you think you guys can beat me with this stupid trick, you've really underestimated my abilities, you brats!" Midori shouted.
We reached the end of the training field when an explosion rocked the ground.
