Neji
"Damn it." I cursed as I brushed the dust off my shirt.
That girl, Tsubasa, got away with Rin, and this guy wasn't an easy enemy. He blew up the training ground with one jutsu; this was going to be a problem.
"So," Midori mused, "How'd you know Rin was in trouble? We never thought people would come looking for her."
"I don't care about Rin particularly." I stated, "I'm just interested in finding my cousin who was with her." Hinata was suppost to come home at four, when she didn't I went to check Rins apartment and found it destroyed. It wasn't that hard to figure out she was in trouble.
Midori smirked. "Too bad, she's probably dead." I felt my fist tighten. "Rin probably did it herself. She used to hate when people dragged her down."
"You know Rin?" Shikamaru asked.
"Oh yeah, we go way back. I was like her brother. We both worked under Orochimaru, until she broke out and leaves me and Tsubasa to chase after her."
"If you're that close to her wouldn't you want her to be free?" Tenten asked.
He laughed, "Free to go where? This pathetic village? I'm surprised she came her on her own free will. She used to tell me the only time she would come here would be to kill her own brothers."
Everyone stood in shock.
"N-no way!" Ino yelled.
"Is that the reason she first came here?" I quietly asked Shikamaru.
"It's a possibility." He replied.
"Well," Midori interrupted, "This was fun, but if you don't mind, I'd like to kill as fast as possible so I can get back."
"We need to capture this guy, we might be able to get more information about Rin." Shikamaru informed us.
Midori performed hand signs and slammed his hand on the floor. Earth dragons erupted from the ground and shot towards all of us.
"Impossible!" Kiba shouted as he dodged.
Each of us defeated our designated dragon and turned back to Midori who was panting.
"I'm just getting started!" he shouted.
He performed more hand signs and the earth rolled like a wave towards us.
"Kiba now!" Shikamaru shouted.
"Fang over fang!"
Midori dodged easily to the left, but before he could move Choji came barreling down on him.
"Human boulder!"
"Neji," Shikamaru whispered, "Go with Tenten and get Rin back. We'll deal with this guy."
I nodded. When everyone else attacked we snuck off in the direction Rin went.
I activated my byakugan and focused on Rins chakra. It was weak, but it was there. They were about 16 kilometers away from us. Man, that Tsubasa girl runs fast. Tsubasa had just stopped moving, probably to wait for Midori. This was our chance. We could catch up.
"They stopped 5 kilometers ahead of here." I informed them.
"Great." Tenten said, "We can still ca—"
That's when we set off the trap. Kunais flew from every direction.
"Rotation!" I repelled all of them, but more kept firing from who knows where. Then, earth figures rose from the ground, six total.
"Damn." I cursed.
"Tenten go ahead of me. Rins close, you get her while I take care of this!" I instructed her while killing an earth drone, but another just appeared and took its place.
"Right!" she took out her scroll "Be back in a flash."
Tenten
I held my scrolls tight in my hands prepared for a fight. I ran in the direction Neji told me.
5 km…4…3…2...1. I kept running, trying to spot her.
"Tenten." I heard and stopped in my tracks. I whipped my head around and saw Rin sitting against a tree, breathing heavily. She was bloody and battered.
"You look terrible." I said astonished.
"Gee, thanks." She groaned.
"Where's Tsubasa?" I asked looking around.
Rins breathing was labored, "She's gone…took off when she sensed that Midori died. She dumped me since I dragged her down."
"Midoris dead?"
Rin gave a slow nod, "That's what she told me. You guys must've done a good job."
"It was probably Shikamaru and them. C'mon I need to get you to Ino." I tried to help her up, but she could barely stand. I threw one of her arms over my shoulder. We made it 2 feet before she passed out. I put my hand on her waist and did my best to carry her.
"Neji! Neji!" I shouted trying to find out where he was.
"Over here."
I turned to the left and saw Neji with some minor cuts and scrapes, and he was covered in mud.
"You okay?" I asked.
"I'm fine. Need some help?" He took Rins other arms and threw it over his shoulder. Together we carried her back to the training ground.
"Ino!" I shouted when we reached the field. Ino rushed over. Neji and me put Rin on the floor and Ino went to work.
"At least she's stable." Ino remarked. She may be stable but she looked terrible. Cuts and punctures on her arms and legs, dirt caked onto her clothes and her face looked pretty bashed up too.
Everyone gathered around Rin. Rin slowly opened her eyes and a few of us gave a breath of relief. Neji on the other hand walked right on her and picked her up by her collar.
"Neji!" I shouted.
"Where's Hinata?!" he shouted furiously at her.
Rin stared at her with dull eyes, her body limp like a ragdoll.
"What did you do to her?!" he asked again.
She turned her head to the left. Slowly, she lifted her hand and shakily pointed at a tree at the end of the field. Nejis eyes widened and he dropped Rin to the ground.
"Neji!" Ino scolded.
Everyone made there way to where Rin pointed. I stayed behind to help Rin up and together we made our way to Hinata.
When we got there Ino was already performing her medical ninjutsu.
"She's fine. Just some cuts and a concussion." She announced. Rin shrugged off my arm, signaling she was okay to walk on her own.
Hinata opened her eyes and she abruptly sat up.
"N-Neji! W-what…. h-how?" she stuttered.
"You weren't home by four." He stated, and Hinata chuckled.
Nejis face darkened and he turned around grabbed Rin by the collar for the 2nd time today and pinned her against the tree.
"What the hell are you playing at?" he asked darkly.
Rin stared blankly at him.
"N-Neji. Stop." Hinata tugged at his arm, but he shrugged it off.
"Why did you come to this village? That Midori guy said—"
"Stop it!" Hinata shouted. "She's not the bad guy, Neji. She protected me!"
"Do you know the reason she came here?!" He asked her angrily and Hinata remained silent. "Midori knows her! He told us she would only come here to kill her brothers!"
Hinata shrunk back a little, and all eyes turned to Rin.
"What if I did?" she asked blankly.
Neji hit her against the tree, "Then you're our enemy. You could be an assassin for all we know! Do you know how messed up it is to want to kill your brother?!" he practically screamed.
Rin just laughed, "Oh really? Didn't you want to kill Hinata before?"
Nejis eyes narrowed, "That's in the past."
"Well, what about Sasuke? He want's to kill Itachi. Itachi wanted to kill the clan. In case you haven't noticed the whole damn Uchiha clan is messed up!" She retorted.
"But Itachis guilty of murder, Sasuke has a reason to kill him. Why do you want to kill Sasuke?"
Rin looked away, "That's none of your business."
"You must work for Orochimaru, huh? Your heartless and secretive like he is, maybe you should go back so things can be like how they were in the past!"
Rins eyes flashed dangerously, "You don't know a damn thing about me. About what it was like there, so stop talking like you know everything!" she shoved Nejis hand off her shirt, but Neji grabbed her again.
"Then why aren't you telling us about your past?!"
"Because its. None. Of. Your. Business." She said slowly.
Nejis fist tightened on her shirt. "It is our business!"
"And whys that?" she asked.
"Because were your friends." I interjected.
Rin gave a death glare at me that sent shivers down my spine.
"Forget it." She muttered. She abruptly shoved Nejis hand off her, when he tried to grab her again she flipped and pinned him to the floor. "I said forget it." She got off him and started walking, "All of you just leave me the hell alone."
Neji rotated his shoulder, "What the hell? She's so different today, maybe she really is a traitor."
Hinata stepped in, "No she isn't she's just angry."
"About what?" I asked.
Hinata looked at all of us sadly, "She found out about our mission."
Rin
I threw the door open to my room and collapsed on the bed.
"Damn Neji." I muttered. "Seriously, everyone's just pissing me off today."
I glanced at my apartment, the living room was completely destroyed. They probably told Tsunade about what happened, and I'll get called in tomorrow.
"Hmmmm," I thought, "They didn't know why I hate Sasuke. I guess the elders didn't tell them everything."
I went to the bathroom, showered, and then got my first aid kit. I bandaged the more serious wounds. I was wrapping the last of the bandages when I sighed. One of my first friendships and I probably just ruined it.
I tenderly touched the back of my neck and touched the seal. I just want my memories back. I narrowed my eyes and stood up. I don't care anymore, I'm just finding out my past. I opened the door and made my way outside.
"Let's pay a visit to the Uchiha compound." I announced to myself.
I took a deep breath, it was already nighttime so the air was cool, but it made the Uchiha compound look creepy. I walked through the entrance. I remembered this place. The food stands, the neighbors. I stood outside of my house and stared at it. I could just hear the voices of Sasuke yelling at me to come play.
My eyes widened. I saw an image of my younger self, she was transparent like a ghost. It was so weird, my memories were playing right in front of me.
"Am I going delusional?" I asked myself.
The image ran into the house, and I followed it.
"Nii-chan! Ni-chan!" my younger self called.
Younger Sasuke came out of one of the rooms, "Shhhh! I'm trying to hear what their saying!" He whispered.
We both made our way to the wall, on the other side Itachi, mother and father sat, discussing something.
I pressed my own ear to the wall.
"Itachi were so proud you passed the Chunin exams! At age 10 none the less!" praised our mother.
"That's my boy." Fugaku said.
I turned to Sasuke who gave a frown and said, "Just you watch. I'm gonna be as good as Itachi and beat him!"
"Not if I beat you to it!" I teased.
"You know they don't let girls be ninjas." He said.
"So? I'll be the first female ninja! And I'll have the sharingan too!" I pouted.
Sasuke laughed, "Don't count on it!"
The images disappeared and I was left alone in the room. I turned and walked into the room my mother and father were in before.
Images flickered to life again, "Wow. It's like watching a film." I commented.
The images were of mother, father and me. We were all sitting on the floor and my father was scowling.
"You can't be a ninja." He told me.
"Why not?!" I pouted.
"Rin, women in the Uchiha clan aren't ninja. That's why there are only men in the police force." He tried to explain.
"Then I'll be the first female ninja!"
"No."
"Why?! You were proud of Itachi when he passed the Chunin exams at a young age, he graduated the academy in one year, and he got the sharingan at 8! Why can't you just let me try?!"
"Dear," Mikoto whispered to Fugaku. "What's the harm in letting her try?"
"You know why, only men are permitted to become ninjas. That's a tradition we've had in this clan for centuries." He whispered sharply.
"Listen," my father turned to me, "In the Uchiha clan women don't get the Sharingan. We don't know why, but they just don't okay? So if you don't have the sharingan there's not a point in being a ninja."
"So what if I don't have the sharingan?!" I asked furiously. "Plenty of kids don't have the sharingan in the village, our families the only one! If I don't have it ill just be like every other kid at the academy!"
"Yes, but other kids have their own family trait they use. You'd be at a disadvantage."
I groaned, "I don't care dad. I want to be a ninja!"
"He stood up and slapped me hard across the face.
"Stop being so disobedient." He said, "Why can't you be more like your brothers?"
"I'm trying! I want to be a ninja, like they can, but you keep shutting me down!"
He grabbed me harshly by my arm and I winced.
"That's because your brothers are better than you, now stop complaining! Be a proper girl and learn things from your mother!"
"I shoved my dad's arm off me, and ran from the room. I followed my younger self and she ran into what I guess is my room, and collapsed on the bed.
Sasuke came into my room and sat beside me.
"What happened?" he asked nicely.
"Mom and Dad won't let me be a ninja!"
He rubbed my head, "You can cry, I won't tell anybody."
"No." I said stubbornly, "If I cry, then dad wins."
"What kind of logic is that?" He laughed.
"My kind."
Itachi walked into the room, "What happened?"
"Mom and Dad won't let her be a ninja." Sasuke informed him.
Itachis eyes softened, but then they narrowed. He walked over to me and or my younger self, and turned her head towards him, "What happened to your cheek?" he asked softly.
"Nothing." I whispered.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"Hn."
He sighed then sat on the bed and put me in his lap, "Who cares what mom and dad said?" he asked.
I looked at him like he was crazy, he just laughed. "Your not suppost to go to the academy for a few years, right?"
I nodded. Sasuke, being a year older was going to go next year and I was suppost to follow the year after.
"Then start training with me and Sasuke now." He instructed.
I tilted my head in confusion.
"Prove to mom and dad you can be a ninja without stupid family traits. I know of a ninja who doesn't use ninjutsu or genjutsu at all, but he's very skilled. His names Might Guy."
I looked at him with hopeful eyes, "You think it'll work?"
He smiled, "Definitely."
They faded, but I still stared at the place they used to be. I brought my hands to the side of my head, I was beginning to get a headache.
"I need to know what happens next." I thought.
I wandered around the house, occasionally I ran into a memory of me training with Itachi or playing with Sasuke and one memory of me fighting with Sasuke.
I was walking when I saw my younger self-tumble on the ground trying to pin Sasuke down. We were playing outside.
"Get off!" Sasuke laughed, trying to pull me off.
"Never!" I shouted.
"Rin, get off your brother."
I froze. I looked towards the house saw my father.
"Stop it." He repeated.
My eyes turned cold as I looked at my father, but he didn't seem to notice. I got off Sasuke, but he remained on the floor looking back and forth between father and me. Father continued walking.
"What happened to not caring about what dad says?" Sasuke asked me.
"He has ways to make me listen sometimes." I said as I rubbed my arms uncomfortably.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing." I tugged on Sasukes arm, "Let's go, Itachis probably waiting at the target practice."
We both ran, the figures faded as they reached the end of yard.
I sighed and continued walking through the house. I just walked out of the kitchen when figures appeared again. Me and Sasuke ran through the door. I followed them as they ran around the house and to a window. I looked inside and saw Itachi and Father. They appeared to be arguing.
"Sasuke," I said "help me move this bench so we can see in the window." Together Sasuke and I pushed an old wooden bench under the window and climbed on top.
"Did you teach her all that?!" Father asked furiously at Itachi.
"Yes." He replied calmly.
"Why? You know she can't be a ninja. You're just filling her head with nonsense!"
"With all do respect father, she's pretty good. Better than Sasuke, I've been working with them both. I think they should both start the academy this upcoming year."
"Absolutely not!" he shouted.
"Why are you so against her being a ninja?" Itachi asked a little annoyed.
"Because she's nothing, but a mistake!"
I froze and my eyes widened.
"Her birth was a mistake, if it was up to me we would have given her to the orphanage the day she was born. The only reason she's alive is because Mikoto wanted a daughter!"
"How can you say that?!" Itachi yelled.
"Because it's true! Being the head of the clan is an important job and I needed male successors to become strong ninjas."
"It doesn't matter her gender she could be a great ninja! I've seen her! It's amazing, with some more practice she could graduate in a year like I did!"
"She is NOT going to the academy and she is NOT becoming a ninja!"
Sasuke gripped my arm.
"Father, just watch her, once. She has the skill, she's determined, and she can do it!" Itachi pleaded.
"I don't give a damn!" He bellowed, "The mark of an Uchiha Shinobi is our sharingan. Girls have never had it, so there is NO need for them to become ninja's, sending a girl who might make a mockery of our clan is just a mistake!"
Itachi glared at our father, "Guess you don't know your children well." He muttered.
"And why's that?"
"She has the Sharingan, Father!"
He froze, "What?"
"It's true, I've seen it. I don't know how it's possible, but we were training yesterday when it suddenly happened. Dad, she's special. She got the sharingan before I did, that's gotta mean something."
Sasuke turned to me, "You have the Sharingan?" he whispered.
I nodded.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he asked sounding hurt.
"Itachi told me not to tell anyone." I replied.
"Sasuke? Rin?" Fugakus voice called.
Me and Sasuke sweat dropped, "Crap they found us." Sasuke whispered.
"Y-yes father?" Sasuke asked timidly.
"Come in here please." He asked calmly. We both climbed in threw the window. I stood behind Itachi gripping his pants leg. Sasuke stood by Itachi.
"Is it true?" Father asked.
I just nodded, not meeting his eyes. He sighed, and started to pace.
"Sasuke go to bed, it's late." Itachi instructed.
The tension in the atmosphere made it really uncomfortable and I think he was glad to leave.
"Night, Nii-san." I whispered.
He kissed my forehead, "Night." He replied, and then left.
I looked back at Fugaku who had stopped pacing and was now standing in the dark side of the room. I gripped Itachis pants tighter and he put a hand on my shoulder reassuringly.
"Itachi," Fugaku said, "Why don't you go to bed, you have a mission tomorrow, right? Go get some rest."
My heart dropped thinking about what would happen if Itachi left.
"No thank you, Father." Itachi stated.
Fugaku grunted, but didn't press. "Okay," he said turning to me "We'll talk about becoming a ninja later." He sighed tiredly and began to leave. I let out a breath of relief. Itachi walked me to my room, I climbed into bed and he made his way towards me. I thought he was going to just say goodnight and leave, but he sat down on the edge of it.
"Rin." He said.
"Hm?"
"You know you can tell me anything, right?" he asked.
My eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
He sighed, "Okay, I'm just going to be straight forward and ask you something, but you have to tell me the truth okay?"
I nodded.
"Has father been abusing you?"
"Ab-ab- what?"
"Abusive." He repeated, "Has he been beating you?"
My eyes widened.
"There was a bruise on your upper arm the last time we were training. I noticed you were trying to hide it. Tell me the truth Rin."
I diverted my eyes to the other side of the room, not wanting to answer. Itachi caressed the side of my face.
"Okay, I get it." He kissed my forehead and stood up, "Don't worry, Rin. I'll protect you, I promise." I watched him leave.
The figures faded, and my own breathing became ragged. I leaned against the wall and slowly slid down.
"What's going on? I'm so confused." I whispered. I thought my brothers were going to be heartless bastards, what the hell? Why are they being so nice? I sat on the floor for hours then I finally fell asleep, but what greeted me were more memories.
I walked down the hall from my room to Sasukes. I'm pretty sure it was early morning, because he was still sleeping soundly in bed. I smiled and gently shut the door. I was about to try Itachis room when I remembered he was away on another mission. So I made my way down stairs hoping my mom would be in the kitchen, but when I passed the sitting room I heard voices. I stopped and looked between the sliding doors, it was my father and some other guy I didn't know.
"So, why have you called me here Fugaku. It's pretty early you know" the strange man asked.
"Sorry, Kyoya. I just wanted to have a conference with you so you are aware of my plans." My father explained.
"What's this about?"
"You know the coup we're planning on the village?"
"What about it?"
"Danzo found out."
"What?! How?!"
"I'm not sure, but he approached me yesterday and offered a trade. An Uchiha for his silence."
Kyoya sighed, "Should we give him one of the rookies? I mean then he wo—"
"I'm giving him my daughter."
I clasped my hand over my mouth.
"Y-your daughter? Fugaku, that's an absurd proposal!"
"If I give him someone from my family he said he'll help us with the Coup.
"He won't be satisfied with someone who doesn't have the Sharingan." Kyoya informed.
"She does have it."
"That's impossible."
Fugaku sighed, "I'm afraid its not."
"Shouldn't you keep her then? I mean, a girl with the sharingan. That's quiet impressive. Your family really is a legacy of its own. First, Itachi. Now Rin. You must be very proud."
Fugaku waved his hand dismissively, "She's a problematic child. Nothing but a pain in my side."
"T-that's a tad harsh."
"Well this was not up for discussion, I just thought I'd inform you, you may leave now."
Kyoya gave an awkward bow, "Yes sir."
He made his way to the door I was standing at, but I made no attempt to move. He opened it, and I glared at him with red eyes.
He gulped, "A-ah. Hello. S-sorry I must be going." He weaseled his way past me.
I looked back at my father who was scowling. "Turn those off." he scolded, "I don't want anyone seeing you with those on."
"You're giving me away?" I asked, my voice filled with bitterness.
"Yes, I am." He said bluntly.
My eyes burned with hate, I was turned around and was about to run to Sasukes room when my father pulled me back from my shirt.
"You're not going anywhere, young lady. I don't want you talking to your brothers. Not after what you told Itachi."
My eyes widened. "Shit." I thought.
"Sasuke!" I screamed. My father hit his hand on the back of my neck and I fell to the ground. My world was slowly turning black. My father shoved me to the corner of the room, just as Sasuke came down the stairs.
"Sasuke? What are you doing up?" Father asked him.
"I thought I heard Rin?" he said while rubbing his eyes.
"Go back to bed. It must've been your imagination."
"Okay." He yawned and made his way back up. Father turned towards me.
"Why can't you just do as you're told?" he asked disappointed. My dream faded.
I woke up in a dark room, no lights, no windows and a door. I tied it, but it was locked.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"You're staying in here." Said a voice in the darkness. I nearly screamed. It was my father.
"I can't have you ruining our plans. Not when were this close to the coup. The last thing I need is for you to mess it up."
"Itachi will come for me!" I shouted stubbornly.
Fugaku just chuckled, "Are you sure about that? It seems they've already given up."
"Liar!"
He just walked to the door and knocked on it. The door slid open and I saw there were guards outside. This must've been the police headquarters.
"Make sure she stays here." He warned.
"Yes, sir!" they both replied.
The door closed and I was left alone.
A few days later I was lying in the room bored out of my mind. I stayed huddled in the corner of the room.
"Rin?" a voiced asked.
I whipped my head around trying to locate it.
"Up here."
I looked at the ceiling, Itachi was up there, he was dressed in ANBU attire, but without the mask. He lifted the roof board and jumped down. He quickly covered my mouth and said, "Shhh, they don't know I'm here." I nodded and he removed his hand.
"I knew you would come!" I whispered, "You're here to get me out right?"
He looked away, "I'm afraid I can't do that, Rin."
My face fell, "why not?"
"I have a new mission. Different from the clans, I'm sorry, Rin."
"Wait, what does that mean?"
He patted my head, "Nothing you need to worry about. I don't know what going to happen to you, not when it involves Danzo. Just listen to me, Rin. You're smart and skilled. The fact you have the sharingan is proof of that, be strong okay?" he kissed my forehead.
"I'm so confused Itachi, can you just tell me what's happening."
He gave me a sad smile, "I'm not going to help you, Rin. Father really is giving you away and I can't do anything about it."
"You can't or you won't?"
"I'm sorry Rin." He repeated.
"Itachi!"
"Rin, look" he tried to put his hand on my head, but I pushed him away.
"No!" I shouted, "You can't be doing this to me, not you too."
"Rin—"
"Shut up!" I pushed him in the chest, "Don't keep apologizing. It doesn't make me feel better! I thought you would be there for me! You promised! You promised."
"I know."
My breathing was labored from the shock and from yelling. I just stared at him with disbelief.
"I thought I could trust you." I whispered.
"Your mistake." He replied coldly.
I was shaking from anger, and then I lunged at him.
"Damn you, Itachi!" I cursed.
He dodge easily, I landed behind him and switched my sharingan on.
"You bi-polar idiot! What the hell happened to you?" I jumped again but he just knocked me aside and I hit the wall.
"This clan changes you, I'm about to change that." He vanished in a puff of smoke.
I remained lying on the floor staring blankly at the spot Itachi was at.
"What does that mean?" I thought.
The door opened and one of the guards came in.
"What's all the racket?" he yelled. He saw my read eyes and immediately got into a defensive position, but it was too late. I lunged and knocked him out in a second. I sprang to the door and took out the surprised guard.
I burst out of the doors to the police station. It was night and the stars were bright. I ran all the way home.
When I got there I tried to make a beeline for Sasukes room, he would help me. But luck was not with me and on the stairs I ran straight into Fugaku.
"Rin? What the hell are you doing here?" he asked astonished, and then his face turned to fury. He grabbed me by the back of my shirt.
"Otou-san! (Father) Stop it!" I shouted as he dragged me towards the front of the house. When we neared the front door Itachi and Sasuke stepped out from the shadows.
"Onii-san help!" I screamed before a hand covered my mouth. I watched in horror as neither of my "brothers" moved. Sasuke looked at me with apologetic eyes, while Itachis remained unchanged, then I was dragged out the door.
My father shoved me forward, but before I could fall backwards arms caught me and held my arms firmly behind my back.
"So this is her?" a monotone voice said from somewhere to my left.
My father nodded and I struggled to get out of the grip of whoever was holding me. I flipped forward and kicked the guy behind me who let out a grunt. My victory was short lived when someone tackled me and I ate dirt. I struggled and struggled until I felt something jab my arm.
My vision began to turn black and the last thing I saw was my father turn his back on me and walk back towards the house.
My dream faded, then I felt the seal shatter.
