I have not read the last book, so I don't know much of the details. I only heard a couple of things and will be using some ideas from that.
During Severus' latest meeting with the Death Eaters, Voldemort had assigned Peter Pettigrew to stay with him at Spinner End as his helper. Severus didn't argue. He bowed his head and left with Pettigrew following close behind. When they reached Spinner End, Severus ordered Pettigrew to go to the back and stay there while he took care of some errands. Severus went straight to Hogwarts to speak with Albus. He explained his situation involving Pettigrew and reluctantly told him about Violet, leaving out certain details, and they agreed on a plan.
Severus returned to the cottage he shared with Violet. As expected she was sitting in her room, playing with the Muggle game boards he gave her to occupy her time with while he was gone. He greeted her as he walked in. When she smiled at him, his dull mood lighten at the sight of it. His days with Violet were one of his happiest. Violet was becoming more and more comfortable around him and their home. She was speaking more than a few words to him. When he was busy on his labs, she was there with him, sitting quietly on her stool, observing him.
Severus swallowed the hard lump in his throat, a part of himself dying at what he was about to say. "We are moving."
Violet gathered the game board she was playing with and put them away. "Moving? Where?"
"To live with a friend of mine."
Violet stared at him with her large eyes. "We are leaving our home?"
The sadness in her eyes weakened him, he looked away from her and began packing her things. There was not much, only a few essential items he had purchased for her from the village. He had offered to purchase her more items, but she always declined.
"Yes,"
Violet was silent as she obediently followed him. When they arrived in his personal chambers at Hogwarts by means of apprating Violet fainted. Severus caught her limp body before she fell on to the ground. He carried her to a chair and placed the back of his hand over her forehead. It had not occurred to him that she might have never apprated before. He scolded himself for not thinking it through. He was fortune that she didn't Splinched.
"Violet," he said, lightly shaking her.
Violet slowly opened her unfocused eyes.
"I'm sorry, next time we'll...we will travel using a different method." he promised.
She nodded and closed her eyes. She took a few deep breathes and cautiously stood up, but Severus gently pushed her back down.
"I can stand." she said.
"No, you need a moment to recover. Relax."
"I can stand." she repeated with a stronger tone.
Seeing that she was going to be stubborn, Severus stepped back. "All right. If you say that you can then, stand. Walk."
Violet stood up and slowly walked from the chair to the door and back to him. "See."
The corners of Severus' lips twitched upward at her pouting lips. She was upset at him for doubting her abilities, but that expression left as soon as it came and she was meek and docile once again. "Since you are well let's go meet my friend."
Violet shyly stood behind Severus as they entered Albus' office. Albus gasped when Severus stepped aside to reveal Violet. Albus stood up from his seat and went to her.
"Severus...you didn't tell me...she..." he said, studying her face.
Severus cleared his throat. "Yes, that...this is Violet. Violet this is Albus."
"Hello," Violet said shyly.
Albus chuckled. "It seems we are both being plagued by ghosts' of our past."
Severus arched his brow at this, but did not question Albus about his words.
"I will arrange a safe place for her to stay." said Albus, "Are there anything particular that she needs?"
"My potions. She is used to my brews and will not take others." said Severus. It was untrue, but he said it so he would at least have some form of contact with her after this.
Albus nodded he took her hand and led Violet away, while Severus stood where he was. Violet looked back at him, her face filled with confusion. As she grew farther and father away from him, he could see the expression of panic on her face and then her pleas. She was non-verbally begging him to not do this. To allow her to stay with him. Severus remained silent. He could not bring himself to say goodbye nor to look away.
When Albus returned he found Severus sitting in a chair, wearing a hard expression. Albus took his seat and assessed Severus from across his desk.
"How did she come under your guardianship?"
"I found her." Severus replied in a detached tone.
"How long has she stayed with you?"
"Three weeks."
Albus inclined his head. "What has kept you from telling me about her three weeks ago?"
"Why does it matter?"
"It matters greatly. Especially, when she resembles Lily."
"So?" Severus drawled.
"Don't you think your sudden encounter with her is suspicious? Quite a coincidence?"
"I found her by chance."
"By chance or by the hands of someone."
"I understand what you are implying, but Violet is harmless."
"Severus, I need you sensible." Albus said this with a strange tone that made Severus paused and slightly tilted his head.
"I am." Severus claimed.
"Are you?"
Severus narrowed his eyes at Albus, insulted by his doubting him.
"What are you implying? Have I not done everything you ask? Have I not done enough?" The bitterness could be heard in every word that Severus hissed out.
"That's not what I'm saying at all." said Albus.
"Then what are you saying?!"
A long pause followed Severus' outburst. Severus watched him curiously as Albus slowly stood up and pulled the sleeve covering his left arm. Severus was taken aback in seeing Albus' blacked hand. Severus stood up and leaned over the desk between them to inspect Albus' hand.
"What happened?"
"This is the consequence of a selfish, thoughtless act." said Albus. "Earlier, I took a trip to Little Hangleton. To Riddle Manor and...the Gaunt's...I...I discovered underneath the floor boards a golden box. Inside was the Gaunt's signet ring...a Horcrux. I was cautious, but as you can see. Not enough."
"This is a very powerful bit of Dark Magic." said Severus.
"Ancient as well," said Albus. "I wonder how Tom acquired such knowledge."
In all the years of knowing him, Severus had never seen Albus as vulnerable as he was this very moment. When he was his headmaster, Severus had despised him for favoritism for the Gryffindors, and the dislike grew over the years. Especially, when he appeared so godlike. Perfect. Flawless. This man, standing in front of him today was not the perfect godlike wizard he thought he was. No. This man was flawed. As flawed as any human, which was exactly what he was, human. Susceptible to worldly troubles. And it made Severus see him in a new light. He respected the wizard for being a human.
"I...I will search for a cure as soon as possible." said Severus. He turned around and left the office.
When he entered his private office, Severus went to his personal library and waved his wand. Every book flew from shelf and landed on his desk and the area surrounding it. He opened and turned the pages, diligently researching.
Honey was at home, laying on her bed with her eyes closed. She was listening to the conversation between her headmaster and professor. She had purchased a couple of Extendable Ears from Fred and George Weasley and made a few modifications, which allowed her to hear everything in Professor Dumbledore's office. Never mind the protective charms place around it, she had found that wizards tend to not place charms underneath their feet. She had sent her pet snake, William, to slither into the pipes, which run beneath the school and in its walls, and placed pieces of the Extendable Ears everywhere. She could hear them as clear as if they were standing next to her, from the comforts of her bedroom at home.
Things are getting intense between the two men as their emotions run high. Snape was being defensive and cold because of his encounter with Violet, who had his dead love's face. Dumbledore was anxious as the curse from the ring she had left for him was progressing and slowly killing him. They would be distracted from thinking clearly. It would be a great advantage to her and the things she had planed for them.
