Chapter 11.
I'm so sorry for how long I've been away, I have tried to write this story but have had such bad writers block. However this chapter seems to have gotten the ball rolling again, so hopefully quicker chapters! Please read and review!
- Also just to let you all know Voldemort did try to kill Harry the same way as in the books, but the reason Lily and James survive will be explained in a later chapter.
Enjoy :)
4 years later.
"Daddy!" Charlie screamed from her bedroom.
Sirius' heart leapt into his throat and he jolted to his feet, running up to his daughter's bedroom as quick as he could.
Ever since Charlie had mentioned seeing Kate in her dream when she was seven, he had become even more protective of his little girl, always wary of when her prophecy was going to come true, especially now Kate was part of it.
He burst into her bedroom and gathered her, from when she was sitting onto the floor, and into his arms and looked around the room for any danger.
"Daddy? What are you doing?" His beautiful 11 year old daughter asked, smiling up at him.
Sirius realised that there was no threat to his Charlie and looked at her confused "You screamed?"
Charlie beamed and held up the piece of parchment in her hand "I got my Hogwarts letter!"
Sirius smiled with her and spun her around in his arms, her little arms clinging to his neck tightly, like she used to do when she was a baby.
"We have to go to Diagon alley to get all my stuff!"
Sirius smiled and nodded and held her close to his chest. He swallowed heavily when she laid her head on his shoulder. He was happy for her going to Hogwarts but the father side of him felt like he was losing his little girl.
"Daddy?... Dad? You okay?" Charlie said tapping his shoulder and he realised he had been lost in thought.
"I'm fine baby girl." He said and kissed her head "Go get ready and we'll floo to Uncle James' so you can tell them about your letter."
While his daughter ran off to get ready he grabbed some floo powder and stuck his head in the fire, looking at Dumbledore in his office.
"Ah Sirius, what can I do for you?" He smiled.
Sirius sighed "Charlie got her Hogwarts letter."
Dumbledore nodded "Sirius you know she will be safe here."
"It's not just that... I need to tell her Albus, I know you said not at a young age but Charlie's smart and I know she won't tell anyone. I'm not going to be there to help her if she has a nightmare and she needs to know to find you and give you the information." Sirius explained.
Dumbledore sighed "I must admit I have also been thinking about it, and if you believe that your daughter is sensible enough to not tell a soul that doesn't already know... Then I suppose it would be for the best."
Sirius breathed out a sigh of relief "Thank you." He said and heard Charlie's voice calling, asking where he was.
Dumbledore smiled "Tell Miss Charlie I look forward to seeing her again."
Sirius smiled and nodded "I will." He said and went back to his house.
"Uncle James look!" Charlie squealed and thrust her Hogwarts letter in his face.
James read it and picked her up, spinning her around "Finally the next marauder generation appears."
Harry scowled at Charlie from across the room "You're leaving me!"
Charlie rolled her eyes "No I'm not."
"You will! You're gonna have new friends." He sulked.
Charlie went up to him and hugged him "I'll get new friends but you're still my best friend and brother."
Harry smiled slightly "Okay." He said and hugged her back tightly.
Lily had tears in her eyes as she watched her god daughter and son "Congratulations sweetie." She said and kissed her head.
"Thank you." Charlie smiled excitedly.
Lily smiled at the girl she thought of as a daughter "You'll be able to go back to Hogwarts again."
"I know it's so weird that I've technically been there for three years." She laughed.
Remus and Maddie along with Frank and Alice flooed through the fire place and congratulated Charlie.
"I heard that Michael Rollings was the new flying and quidditch coach." James told his god daughter.
"No way! I love him!" Charlie squealed.
"Well at least they'll be him and Moony there that I trust, that will keep those boys away from you." Sirius told Charlie.
Charlie rolled her eyes "I'll get a boyfriend at some point daddy." She giggled.
Sirius, James and Remus all looked at her sharply their eyes darkening.
"We'll see about that." Sirius said clenching his jaw tightly.
Charlie chuckled and stuck her tongue out childishly, not realising that Sirius wasn't joking around this time.
Lily smiled at Charlie "Don't worry baby, I'll keep the mean men away from you when you bring a boy home." She winked and all the men glared at her.
Sirius held Charlie close to him as they walked through the busy streets of Diagon Alley to get all of her school supplies.
"Charlie!" Someone shouted and she turned slightly and smiled.
"Ryan!" She shouted and ran over to him giving him a hug. "You got yours too!"
Ryan nodded "So did Luke and Liam but they're just finished their shopping."
"We're all gonna be together!" She playfully punched him in the arm and he scowled back.
"I'm not sure I like being around you, you're abusive." He winked.
Charlie rolled her eyes "You love me really."
"Whatever you say." He smiled.
"Hey Ryan. Come on baby, let's go get your wand then we can go home and I'll make your favourite dinner." Sirius smiled as he came over and wrapped his arm around her shoulders so she didn't get lost in the crowd.
"Okay. Bye Ryan, I'll see you soon."
Sirius smiled when Charlie took his hand, loving that she wasn't embarrassed to be seen doing it like most kids her age would be and she tugged him impatiently towards Olivanders.
"Look at little daddy's girl, little baby holding daddy's hand." A group of boys sneered at her as she walked past. They all lived down the same muggle street that Sirius and Charlie did, but they were wizards.
His protective instincts reared up as he heard them taunt his baby girl. But was stopped when Charlie just laughed at them.
"You be careful Mason, when we get on the quidditch pitch you wouldn't want me to mess that face up even more than it already is now would we? Hmm?" She said smiling and pulled Sirius away laughing at their stunned expressions.
"That's my girl." Sirius smiled and pulled her close "You're going to be just fine on your own."
"I'm still gonna miss you though daddy." Charlie told him.
"I know baby, but we'll write all the time and I'll see you on the holidays, I just want you to promise me if you are ever scared or feel unsafe go straight to Dumbledore's office and floo me please." He told her.
"Okay." She smiled "Now come on let's see what wand I get. I had a dream the other night that it was 11 inches, beech and unicorn hair." She giggled.
Sirius stared at her for a moment, wondering if maybe this was one of the more ordinary visions that Dumbledore said would randomly occur in a normal dream and wouldn't cause any harm to her.
"Well let's go see then."
They walked into Olivanders and watched as Olivander walked to the front desk and smiled at them.
"Ah little Miss Black, I've been waiting for you to finally get your wand."
Charlie smiled excitedly at him and proceeded to test the wands that Olivander gave to her. One of which turned Sirius' hair purple, which he was not amused with and the other levitated her up to the ceiling, leaving Sirius panicked and standing under her with his arms outstretched in case she fell, and Charlie giggling as she floated up high.
Finally he passed her a wand that seemed to light up the room. "Well Miss Black this wand has chosen you."
Charlie smiled "It's really pretty for a wand." She said examining it especially the intricate detail on the handle of the wand.
"Yes, you have an eleven inch, beech, unicorn hair wand, very beautiful indeed." Olivander told her.
"Whoa! Daddy! Did you hear that I got it right in my dream! That's so cool!" She exclaimed.
"Very interesting." Olivander said looking at Charlie with interest.
Sirius knew he needed to tell her before she innocently told people that she guessed things right in her dreams.
"Come on Charlie –bear, let's go home." He said and she smiled and nodded.
Charlie spent her last night at home in Marauder style. Her dad had made her favourite dinner- Risotto, they had joked about, played prank wars on each other and sat around watching movies and gorging on junk food.
Sirius came upstairs to tuck his daughter into bed and decided he was going to tell her.
"Charlie baby." Sirius said sitting on the side of her bed.
Charlie rolled over and looked at him "Yeah?" She asked.
"I need to tell you something very important and I need you to swear to me that you will never tell anyone else without letting me know first."
Charlie noted his serious tone and sat up higher "Okay I swear on my life and yours." She told him and crossed her heart.
"Baby... You're a Psychic." He told her.
Charlie looked at him blankly not believing what she was hearing.
Sirius went onto explain how she had saved him and James in the attack when she was three and how she controlled it through her dreams.
"My nightmares." She whispered.
"Yes sweetheart."
"So every dream I have tells the future?" She asked.
"No baby, remember those things that you told us after each of those dreams we woke you from... Well they all come together to make a prophecy which will one day come true."
"16, shooting stars, Christmas, 9:00pm?" She said to him and he nodded.
"Why didn't you tell me?" She frowned.
"Because baby, you were so young at the time and Dumbledore told me not to tell you at the risk that you might let it slip to someone else and they could kill you to get your power." He explained and pulled her on to his lap.
"Who knows?" She asked quietly and reached under her pillow for her blankie that she still had.
"Me, Dumbledore, McGonagall, Slughorn, your grandparents and all your aunts and uncles."
"I thought lots of people weren't meant to know?!" she said shocked.
"They all had to know so they could wake you up if you had a nightmare and get the information from you." Sirius told her.
"But what if it happens at Hogwarts and no-one wakes me up! Or what if someone finds out and kills me!" She panicked and started to shake.
Sirius tipped her head up to his "Charlie you listen to me, nobody is going to hurt you ever! I will always protect you." He said and kissed her head.
Charlie sniffled and put her face in her dad's neck. Sirius gently rubbed his hand up and down her back, soothing her.
"Will you stay with me tonight daddy?" She asked quietly.
Sirius smiled and laid down on the bed, holding her close "I'm never going to let anything happen to you." He whispered as she cuddled in close.
"I know you won't daddy." She said and drifted off to sleep.
"Love you Charlie-bear." He whispered as he fell asleep with her.
Charlie stood on the platform nervously biting her lip and standing close to her dad.
Sirius looked down at his daughter "You okay baby?" He asked knowing that not only was she nervous about leaving him but about the news that he had revealed last night.
Charlie just nodded and dropped her gaze to the ground.
Sirius sighed and got on one knee in front of her, tilting her chin up so their eyes met "Charlie, nothing is going to happen to you okay, I'm not going to let it."
"But you're not going to be there daddy." She whispered.
"I know sweetheart but Uncle Remus is there teaching and Dumbledore can get in touch with me quickly if need be. You have no reason to worry, Hogwarts is one of the best times of your life!" He smiled and brushed her hair away from her face.
Charlie finally smiled "Okay then."
"And hey before you know it Harry will be here with you." He smiled and Charlie beamed "I know I can't wait! It'll be the best!"
The train blew its whistle signalling that everyone needed to board and Charlie's smiled faded and she looked up at her daddy.
Sirius pulled her to him and held her tightly in his arms not wanting to let go "I love you so much Charlie-bear."
"I love you too daddy." She told him.
Charlie said goodbye to the rest of her family that had gathered to see her off and then gave one last hug to her dad and boarded the train.
She made her way down the aisles trying to find and empty compartment and smiled when she met Liam, Luke and Ryan halfway down the train.
"Hey boys." She smiled "Find a compartment yet?" She asked.
"No we're just gonna go straight to the back, no-one should be there yet." Luke told her.
Charlie followed them and luckily claimed the back compartment and sat down already trading insults and planning their pranks.
As the train pulled out of the station they all managed to squeeze out the window to wave goodbye to their parents. None of them noticing the engraved names on the wall of the compartment.
Lily watched as the girl she thought of as a daughter left the station. "Anyone think it was a bit ironic that they sat in the marauder compartment?" she laughed with tears in her eyes.
Sirius sighed and watched as the train finally went out of view. This would be tough for him; they had barely ever spent time apart from the moment that she was born.
"My baby is going to carry on the legacy." Sirius half smiled.
James clapped Sirius on the shoulder "She'll be fine mate. Moony won't leave us in the dark, he'll update us."
Sirius nodded "I know, it's just strange to think I'm not going to see her or hold her for weeks at a time." He shrugged.
"Come round ours for dinner tonight." Lily offered and Sirius smiled.
"Okay if you insist." He winked at her, trying to lighten up the atmosphere.
Lily groaned "I dread to think what those four are up to, and they've only been gone 10 minutes."
And just as she said that a cloud of purple smoke erupted into the sky in the distance... The second generation's signature pranks, and Sirius laughed.
"That's my girl."
Charlie stood nervously with her boys on the stone staircase along with the other first years waiting to go into the great hall.
"Chill out Charls." Liam smiled at her.
She stuck her tongue out at him and smiled back. But really she was worried that the hat would put her in Slytherin.
But after waiting and throwing several paint bombs at Mason, they were finally led in and before she knew it her name was being called to be sorted.
She swallowed nervously and Remus gave her reassuring smiled and nod from the teachers table at the front, and then made her way to the stool.
She tensed when the hat was put on her head:
Interesting... You have elements of all the houses in you, and yet two stand out above all... Just like your father. The things you have to deal with show your bravery, yet your gift could be used by the cunning part of your brain. But I think I'll put you in...
"GRYFFINDOR!"
Charlie couldn't believe what she was hearing and breathed out a sigh of relief and went over to the Gryffindor table where she had sat all those years before, the smile never leaving her face.
After the sorting ceremony, where Luke, Ryan and Liam had joined her in Gryffindor, they had eaten the feast and then been shown where their dormitories were, not that Charlie needed to know, she remembered the castle down to every last nook and cranny.
But Charlie was not asleep, but instead was breaking the rules already and was out writing a letter after hours in the owlery.
Dear Daddy,
I did it! I'm a Gryffindor! I'm not supposed to be out this late sending you a letter but since when have we ever played by the rules? Mason luckily went into Slytherin, so even more reason to cover him in gross stuff! I love you loads daddy and I'm gonna make you proud of me!
Lots of love,
Charlie xxxx
Charlie smiled at the letter and gave it to her owl Lily, that she's been given by her father and names after her godmother.
She watched it fly away and smiled going back to the dormitories, not knowing that back in England there was one father that didn't even need the letter to be proud of his baby girl.
