Last Time

"Um…Jessie, I was wondering if you would like a guide to join you on your walk to the River Court? As I said earlier, I've lived here all my life so I could try to point out any landmarks from Lucas's book as we pass."

"Well what about the café? There is no one else to work."

"Don't worry, I was going to close for the day soon anyway. For some reason it is a very slow day," she said with a smile.

"Well then, sure, I guess. That would be nice Ms. …" Jessie trailed off.

"Oh, I'm not Ms. anything," she laughed, "It's just Karen, Karen Roe."

Chapter 6 - Wish Granted

"K…K…Karen?! Karen Roe? As in Karen Roe, Karen Roe?" Karen laughed and just nodded her head. The other four adults in the room just looked on, amused at Jessie's reaction. "But…but…how? Why? What?" Jessie was actually beginning to be quite frustrated with her inability to construct a full thought. She couldn't believe that she was standing in front of one of the beloved characters from her favorite novel. It was simply unbelievable.

"Well, as I said, I do come home for special occasions, and when I heard you were coming, I knew that it was a very special occasion."

"You came home just for me?"

"Well, a little birdie told me that one of my son's biggest fans was coming to Tree Hill and that her greatest wish was to meet one of the people Lucas depicted in the book. I knew that was one wish that I could fulfill."

"Thank you," Jessie said quietly as she flew into Karen's arms. "You don't know how much this means to me."

Karen looked up and saw Mrs. Thompson wrapped in her husband's arms with tears streaming down her face. She mouthed a quiet 'thank you' to Karen. She was just so happy to be able to share this with her daughter.

"Okay, so, can I join you at the River Court, or are you tired of me already?"

"NO! Please come with us," Jessie said as she disentangled herself from Karen.

"Well then, let's go," replied Karen as she wrapped her arm around Jessie's shoulder and followed everyone out of the Café.

"So Jessie," Mr. Sorenson began, "do you want to take the car or walk?"

"Walk."

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely."

"So Jessie, how do you like Tree Hill so far?" Karen asked as they walked along.

"It's beautiful. I can't believe I'm actually here! And guess what Karen, I get to stay in Peyton's house while I'm here. She was my favorite character in the book, and now I'm staying in her room! Uh…no offense Karen." At this, Karen just laughed at the very excited young woman in front of her.

"No, it's okay. I love Peyton like a daughter, and she is a wonderful young woman. She is a very hard person not to love, they all are, but with the way Lucas wrote her it is even more difficult," she said with a wistful smile.

"You mean she isn't really like how she was portrayed in the book? I don't understand."

"I'm sorry, yes she is just like Lucas wrote her, all of those in the book are accurate, but his love for her is present on every page, and it just makes it harder not to love her."

"Okay good, you scared me there for a second," Jessie said with a relieved laugh. "Hey Karen?" Jessie said after walking in silence for a few minutes.

"Yes?"
"Do you think there is any chance one of the other people from the book might be around town while I'm here?"

"I don't know Jessie. Unfortunately, they are all very busy right now and going in all different directions."

"That's okay, I got to meet you and visit the River Court and stay in Peyton Sawyer's room. I think that's a pretty good dream come true already," Jessie said with a huge smile.

"Well, we will see the River Court in just a moment," Karen replied. She didn't really know what else to say. She was just thankful that she had a chance to meet this wonderful young woman.

As they walked up to the River Court Jessie was in awe of visiting the location that was so prevalent in An Unkindness of Ravens. She was also amazed that the court was not empty as she thought it would be, but rather full. From a distance Jessie could see that there were several guys playing ball with others looking on. As they got closer, one of the girls on the sideline got the attention of one of the players and the game suddenly stopped as the group began walking towards Jessie and with large smiles on their faces.

As they stopped in front of the small group of Jessie and her family, Ms. Matthews indicated the girl who first saw them approach, and the first player who came over as she said to the Thompsons, "These are two people who would like to meet you all. Karen has asked to make the introductions herself, but first I would like to let you know that this young lady is a major part of how you were able to get as much time here as possible."

At the Thompson's slightly confused look, Mr. Sorenson continued, "Remember how I mentioned that there was a sponsor who called us, paid your bills and arranged to have the private jet to bring you here?" When they nodded, the two people in front stepped forward and Karen turned to Jessie with a smile.

"Jessie, I would like you to meet Brooke Davis."

"Hi Jessie, it is a pleasure to meet you."

Jessie was wide eyed with shock as she stared at Brooke. "You're Brooke Davis?"

"Guilty."

"And you did all of that for my family?"

"Guilty, again."

"Why? I mean…not that I'm not thankful, I am, but why would you do it?"

"Well, I got a phone call last week from this guy who told me that there was a beautiful young girl in California with a wish that just had to come true."

"B…but who called you?"

"I did," The guy who had come off the court first responded.

"Jessie," Karen spoke and Jessie's head swiveled from the unknown guy to her. She could tell that Jessie was a bit overwhelmed. "This is my son, Lucas."

Luke held out his hand to shake hers. Jessie ignored the hand and just stared at him. She couldn't move; she just stood frozen in shock with her mouth hanging open.

"I think you broke her Broody," Brooke, as well as the adults around Jessie, laughed.

As she stood, still astounded at what was going on, Jessie was introduced to the others who were at the court, Junk, Fergie, Mouth and Skills. She couldn't believe everything that was happening. Two others stepped forward whom she had yet to be introduced to.

"Jessie, this is my brother Nathan and my best friend Haley." Jessie shook their hands, but was still in a state of shock. She hadn't said a word since Lucas had introduced himself. Everyone around her was smiling and she swore if hers got any bigger, her face would break. At her mother's gentle rodding, she finally was able to put some of what she was feeling into words.

"Oh my gosh, sorry, I just…I can't believe this is happening. I can't believe you are all here and that I'm meeting you! I just have to say thank you all for being here. Haley, I love your music, Brooke, I love your clothes," they nodded in thanks of her praise, "and Lucas, I'm sure you know just how much I LOVE your book!" she laughed. Jessie turned to Mr. Sorenson and Ms. Matthews. "Thank you so much for arranging this for me. It is so far beyond my wildest dream."

"I truly wish we could take the credit, but alas, we cannot," Mr. Sorenson said, causing Jessie to become confused.

"What do you mean?"

"At first I received a call saying that your wish was to come to Tree Hill and see the River Court. All I was asked to do was to secure plane tickets to North Carolina. However, before I could do that, I received a call from Ms. Davis saying that she was sending a private plane, that all of your bills were taken care of, and that she had a place for you here."

"Papa Sawyer was only too happy to contribute," Brooke interjected.

"I then got a call from Lucas asking that Karen's Café be our first stop after the house. All our organization can really take credit for is talking to your parents employers."

Which we appreciate more than you can possibly know," an emotional Mr. Thompson commented.

"So Brooke called Mr. Sorenson with flight and living arrangements, and Lucas called planning our route for the day," at everyone's nod Jessie continued, "then who called you first? Brooke, Lucas, how do you even know who I am?"

"Lucas called me," Brooke said.

"I got a call as well. I was told that my number one fan wanted to meet me, and I would love this young lady when I met her. When I hung up the phone, I knew that I just had to make your wish come true. I knew Brooke could help me get everything together quickly, so I gave her a call."

"Well, who called you? Who did all of this for me?" she finished, looking around at all of the Tree Hill residents.

It was quiet for a moment as everyone looked back at her with knowing smiles.

"I did."

A/N: There it is. I hope it was worth the terribly long wait! If not, I apologize. This story is taking me longer to finish than I ever imagined, but I will finish it. Until next time, I hope you enjoyed it!
