Chapter 4: The Journey, Part. 1
Tasha deals with the first three months of pregnancy, and Donald contemplates his ability to be a good father. At her 12 week ultrasound, the couple see their growing baby and find out the baby's gender.
AN: Hey guys, so as I mentioned last chapter, I had an incident with my laptop a few months ago and had a hard time typing this story using the on-screen keyboard. Finally had the money and time to buy a wireless keyboard for it. If you noticed I'm trying to incorporate the last few season 4 episodes into this story, and boy, trying to fit Space Colony was hard, because I truly don't believe a pregnant woman would be allowed to go through space travel, especially at hyperspeed! But since this is a TV show, anything is possible! Also if you watch Lab Rats: Elite Force you would know that we finally got a Tasha reference. This means I've fallen behind in my scheduled uploading and the baby might arrive before I get the chance to finish this story. Therefore this story might differ from what actually happens on the show. I've spoken too much, on to the story!
When Tasha and Bree had gotten back from their impromptu Grecian holiday, they talked non-stop about their adventures and all the food that they had tried. Bree pointed out how Tasha had the weirdest combinations of foods while they were there, disgust written on all their faces (except Adam's) when she recounted them. When Donald looked over at his wife, he saw how exhausted she was, which made him worry about how all the recent travelling must have been affecting her pregnant body. She was 10 weeks when they had gone to the Space Colony after which she went on her girls vacation in Greece. He knew their next scheduled appointment was at the 12 week mark, but he felt anxious seeing her so lethargic. He knew he was probably overreacting. He had ensured every variable was considered and accounted for to have a safe journey to and from the now destroyed Space Colony. Clearly he miscalculated the reappearance of an old enemy, as much as he tried it seemed that security was a weak point. He just couldn't keep his family safe no matter how hard he tried. He almost lost his sons, and he and his wife were both under the control of another man. How was he going to bring this innocent baby into this messed up life of danger and technology? He was snapped out of his thoughts as Tasha called his name. "Donald?" Tasha asked concerned. "Uh, welcome back honey. We should get you home you must be tired." He responded quickly to avoid questions on his blank expression. "Yeah I am actually." Tasha smiled softly, then proceeded to hug each of the kids goodbye before leaving on the hydraloop with Donald. As they got home to Mission Creek, Donald kept nervously looking over at her, as she sat, hand softly resting on her belly. Tasha soon caught on to his behavior, the foot tapping a bit excessive. "Donald what's the matter? You've been quite jumpy since Bree and I got back." "What? No! Me nervous? Pssh" Donald said trying to wave of her suspicions. "Donald tell me what's got you worked up!" She said no longer having patience for his behavior. Donald sighed, knowing he couldn't hide his true emotions from his wife.
"I'm scared." "Scared of what?" "Scared that I won't be able to protect the two of you. That man controlled you and I couldn't do anything to stop it. What if you had been hurt or worse? We could have lost him, or her." "But we're fine." "Are you? Because you look quite drained." "Don't worry, it's normal for me to be a bit tired. I'm making another person in here and they demand all of my energy. They're like the cutest kind of vampire" Tasha joked, trying to ease Donald's mood. Seeing that it did little to change his low mood, Tasha remembered the very important ultrasound scan coming up. "Oh my goodness! I'm going to be 12 weeks soon!" "I know Tasha." "No you don't understand, it means I'm done with my first trimester!" "Um, yeah I do." "Donald! We can start telling people, and not only that, we'll find out whether we're having a boy or a girl!" Tasha's words finally hit him, and all his fear and anxiety was replaced with tremendous joy as he thought about finding out whether they would be having a little Donald IV or Donna! Tasha spoke again, her tone more serious,"I know that with everything that's been happening you're afraid. I am too, but the fact that we were able to go through all of it means we're more than capable." Feeling a lot more at ease, Donald agreed and kissed her forehead before hugging her. He knew it would take a while to get over this feeling of incompetence, but his wife's words gave him some peace still. They went to bed for a well-deserved full night's sleep after the week they just had.
Soon enough the day came for their twelve week ultrasound appointment. Donald had left Douglas in charge to continue their work on the new bionic chip upgrade they had started on after the destruction of Davenportia. Douglas probably thought he was trying to run away from all the work, but he couldn't tell him the real reason why he had to leave the island. He was seated in a chair by the bed Tasha was laying on, waiting for the doctor to come in and begin the imaging. They had been transferred to an OBGYN when she was 10 weeks pregnant, and then they had just asked if it was safe for Tasha to travel. Today would be the first time they would see their baby, since they had only heard the baby's heartbeat with the Doppler machine. The obstetrician returned, greeting the nervous but happy couple. After ensuring the room was correctly lit and the ultrasound machine was on and ready-to-use, the doctor told Tasha to lift up her shirt just enough to expose her abdomen, where a little almost unnoticeable bump could be seen. He squeezed the cold ultrasound gel on her tummy, which he apologized for as he placed the probe on her now gelled up belly. Donald watched as the grainy gray screen changed as the doctor maneuvered the probe to get a clear picture. Just Donald's impatience and Tasha's anxiety were about to break through, Dr. Zoukeb stopped his hand on the probe and turned the screen to face both Tasha and Donald, he pointed at the image of a baby, its outline easy to make out, but what caught their attention was the little fluttery thing they saw. "That's your baby's heart beating super fast. Which is always good!" He chuckled as he saw the Davenports transfixed on the screen, silent tears rolling down their cheeks with a permanent smile on their faces Donald holding one of Tasha's hands in both of his. "Would you like to know the sex of your baby?" he asked smiling at the entranced couple. They turned to each other, smile never leaving their faces as they said yes in unison. "Alrighty then! I'll just do some measurements and see if I can determine it…" his voice trailing off as he put his focus back on the screen, pressing buttons on the machine for a minute before he smiled. He printed out two copies of the ultrasound the turning to the couple that were waiting in anticipation for his answer. "Now you must understand that at this gestational age the baby's sex is 98.7% accurate on ultrasound, so there's still that 1.3% margin of error, but according to my findings, you're having a baby…girl!"
