Chapter 5

Tears on love

This time I wasn't woken up by a pounding noise coming from the front door nor Jake who usually shakes my pup food, not even the small alarm on the small table by the bed. Nope, today I was woken up by the sun blinding me. I forget to close the curtains yesterday, I was so tired that I didn't even care.

Now I'm awake, I might as well see how Skye is. I turned my head, seeing her sleeping softly next to me, her head somehow using the side of my muzzle as a pillow. I didn't want to move, too afraid I'll wake her and I definitely didn't want that.

From out of the corner of my eye I saw a long scar going down the side of her muzzle. Suddenly images of yesterday flashed in my mind, I still don't get how a sweet pup like Zuma, can turn into a wild animal. Maybe there's a lot more too having a mate then I thought?

I watched in awe as Skye turned over so now she was on her back, I began to close my eyes again. Just softly resting. Until I heard a little yawn escape her lips. I turned to face her, seeing fuchsia eyes locked with mine. Then I felt a wet sensation on the tip of my nose.

"Hey blue eyes," She whispered. I smiled, feeling my muzzle grow hot. Then out of suspicion I noticed her collar was off her neck. That red mark in my clear eye view.

"Skye, where's your collar?" She reached her paws to her neck, feeling bare fur. Suddenly she got up so she was on all four paws.

"M-my c-collar?" She started to turn her head left and right looking frantically. About to stand up, until I pulled her back.

"Skye, I'll look for it. You need to rest!" She looked confused and then a little growl could be heard. "I'm sorry, but I can't risk you getting more hurt," that angered look soon changed to a sweet smile.

"Thanks, mate." Mate? Is that what I was too her now? I thought questions could wait till later. I should probably find her collar then grab her something to eat. I smiled back, before jumping off the bed, taking one last look back, seeing her laying down once again.

Then I remembered she was going home the day after tomorrow and Jake was coming back as well, late at night. How time goes so fast. So much has happened in the last few days; just last week, I thought I'll never even get a chance with the pup of my dreams, now I've got her mark stained on my neck. Even though she's not mine until that mark on her neck disappears. I could still see it clear as day, but that doesn't mean I can't still show her why I'm a good mate. I got one last thing to prove to her.

That will be tomorrow, she said that she loves going to that clear part of the forests. What about if I took her to the snowy mountains instead? I remember this day every year something remarkable happens. Something that filled with so much beauty.

"Everest you okay?" I was so concentrated on my thoughts, that I didn't even realise I was still sitting up on the floor.

"Y-yeah I-I'm...erm fine Skye, just thinking where your collar could be." I blushed in embarrassment, walking backwards. Accidently hitting my back paw on the door. Feeling more blood rush to my muzzle, I was acting like I was hiding a secret - well I was, I couldn't tell her what I planned for our last night together. I wanted it to be a surprise.

I quickly ran out of the room. Catching my breath, seriously I was never good at keeping secrets especially my own! After remembering what I was meant to do, I ran straight to the kitchen. Might as well eat before I go looking for her collar. I climbed onto the chair, jumping up on the surface, grabbing a small can with one of them flip open lids. I managed to use my mouth to carry the can back down to the floor, before I opened the cabinet with my paw pulling another sliver bowl out.

After minutes of trying to get the food out of the can and restricting myself from eating it, I succeeded, watching the wet chunks or food pour out of the can into the bowl. I licked my lips in hunger, but the I had to remember this was for Skye, not for me. I can eat later, she needed food more than me. Once the bowl was filled, I placed it on a small tray big enough for another bowl to fit on.

I went back to the cabinet pulling out another bowl, this time it was blue with my name on it. I couldn't wait any more I was hungry too.

Once I had got another can and brought it to my bowl, the food softly slid out dropping into the blue bowl. I placed the bowl on the tray, bringing it to the tray, holding it securely with my canines walking back to the room, where Skye was once again sleeping.

I placed the tray softly on the bed, I didn't even have to wake Skye up because her nose managed to sniff out the smell of food. Just like lightning, she jumped up on all four - well three, being careful to not put so much pressure on the fourth. She walked over to the silver bowl, softly eating the food in it. I did the same, eating a little quickly so I could retrieve her collar, then plan on what to do tomorrow night, before going up to the snowy mountains. I want to make tomorrow special, unforgettable even.

As soon as I had finished eating, I looked over, seeing her lick her lips, forgetting one last piece on her the side of her muzzle. I walked over to her, closing the gap between us as I took a quick lick, lapping up the missing piece of food. She could only watch in curiosity. As I drew my head back, Licking my lips.

"Tasty," I leaned back, so I was directly at her ear now softly nibbling on it. I felt her hot breath at my neck, softly breathing on it. I pulled away so I was at eye level with her. A little giggle escaped my lips, seeing her muzzle so red and her lips slightly parted.

I suddenly felt my body move, as she lightly pushed me down on the bed. Unexpectedly locking her lips with mine. I felt the fireworks exploding in my mind as she kissed me, I was supposed to be looking for her collar, not getting pulled into an intimate moment. Her lips were so addicting, I couldn't hold out for long. I kissed back with passion, reaching my paws around her neck, pulling her deeper into the kiss, our tongues connected in seconds, I gently rolled mine over hers, unexpectedly she took the lead by lapping her tongue over mine, gently sucking. A small muffled moan escaped me, while I felt a sudden wetness between my legs again.

With one of my front paws I ran it down her back, feeling soft fur all the way down to her wagging tail. Which I lightly squeezed. She pulled away from the kiss, moaning. Her tail, one of her weak spots. I lightly tapped her rear end, she howled in pleasure. I wanted to take this further. As I connected my lips with hers once again, silencing any more moans. Then I flipped her over, suddenly hearing a muffled 'yelp.' I thought nothing of it, as I kissed her deeper. Once again our tongues going into a dance of passion. Suddenly a wiff of another pup's scent caught up in my nose. I pulled away from the kiss, locking my eyes once again with hers.

"S-something wrong Eve?" She blinked, her paw softly running little circles round the side of my muzzle.

"N-no it's just your scent...it's not the same," I gulped, hoping I didn't upset her. I surprisingly heard a little giggle in front of me.

"T-that's because I'm covered in Zuma's scent. Or did you forget that I had a fight with him yesterday?" How could I? Wait Zuma's the one who fought, Skye's the one who got hurt. He didn't have a scratch on him. What surprises me even more is that Skye doesn't even seem bothered by it. Isn't she upset, that yesterday she lost one of her best friends?

Instead of answering her, I just nodded my head in response, before I could say anything else, I was once again flipped over so she was on top. Skye gave me one last lick before jumping off the bed, walking toward the bathroom.

I leaned into the bed, closing my eyes. Until I feel extra weight onto of me, which forces my eyes to flash back open. I thought she was going to the bathroom? I tilted my head in confusion as to why she was still here.

"Skye, wasn't you going to the-"

"I was waiting for you." Huh? Waiting for me, why?

"What? Why?" I blinked, I wasn't just surprised, I was confused. I felt her lean forward so her mouth was hovering over my ear.

"How else am I going to get my scent back?" Was that a rhetorical question? How am I meant to answer that? I tilted my head more in confusion, just as she pulled her mouth away from my ear. Slightly giggling. "You're so cute when you're confused." Once again I was blushing.

"T-thanks, but what do you mean?" I said, still blinking in confusion. She smiled with a type of small smirk showing, then just like before Skye leaned forward so her hot breath was hovering over my ear.

"Well the only way is for me to have a bath and I can't do that by myself as I'm unable to walk much. So I need your help Eve...that doesn't mean you have to get wet - well that is if I don't end up pulling in the tub with me." Another giggle could be heard, while she licked down my earlobe. I was catching my breath, as her front paw travelled down to my inner thigh and her back paw moving closer to my pelvis, slightly rubbing over my slit. I only caught my breath more as she ran her tongue down the side of my muzzle away from my earlobe, she took quick little licks then planted a kiss after them, she travelled closer almost at my lips, I took another deep breath in anticipation, before I could feel the softness of her lips, Skye pulled away. Giving me that innocent, but yet taunting look.

"You're such a tease." I said, slightly pouting. Seconds later I could hear small giggles in front of me.

"I know, but that's the only way you agree." I would've said yes anyway, she didn't have to do all that. "So come on, I need a bath." She said, as she jumped off the bed walking towards the bathroom, swaying her hips along the way. Skye really is a tease.

I jumped off the bed as well, following her too the bathroom, where she was standing up on her hind legs, using her mouth to turn on the taps. Before she could make a fool out herself. I lightly tapped her on the back forcing her to face me.

"How about I run the bath and you wait until it's ready? That way you won't have to stress so much when you realise there is no plug." I let out a giggle as she growled, lightly slapping me on the shoulder.

"Fine, how am I supposed to know there's meant to be a plug? I usually just have a shower at the lookout or go to Katie's pet parlour to get washed and groomed. I might as well go look for my collar." She growled more, as she walked out, flinging her tail back and forth. I could only watch in sudden laughter, she was acting like a sassy pup with lots of attitude.

After shaking my head, wondering what's gotten into Skye, I jumped on the stool grabbing a small plug from the edge of the bath, throwing it in the tub. Then I reached my paws over to the taps turning them on, making sure the water's just the right temperature. I also grabbed a light purple bottle that says 'Bubble bath' I hope Jake wouldn't mind? After all that was all we have. Using my canines I carefully opened the cap tasting soap on my tongue.

Once I had poured some of the soap in the bath - even though the bottle was now half empty. 'Maybe I used too much?' I thought, looking at all the bubbles in the tub, there was so many, it would be impossible to count. Not to mention they were rising to the top. I had to bite some, to stop the bubbles going on the floor.

I spat out the soapy taste soon after, although some of the liquid still remained in my mouth. I pushed the stool so it was at the sink, I used my mouth to turn the taps on, then I brought my mouth closer so I could taste water, making my mouth all bubbly, now I see why people call it 'bubble bath' there was bubbles everywhere. I spat out the water, clearing my mouth off that weird soapy taste, I turned over the taps. Climbing back down off the stool, just as I heard Skye shout out.

"I found it!" That's makes my job much easier, so I don't have to go searching for it.

I looked back at the water, still seeing it half full. 'Hurry up!' I thought, the thing was taking forever to fill up, but wait maybe Skye only wants a little bit of water. I should go ask her.

I ran out of the room, then back in. Jumping back on the stool, might as well turn the taps off before the the bath over floods, then Jake will really kill me. After turning the taps off getting my paw wet at the same time, I walked out of the bathroom, as it was inside the room, it made it easy to travel. That way I don't have to go room to room, which will just end up making my head spin.

To my shock, Skye wasn't in the room. I looked all over then I saw the bedroom door open, giving myself a metal slap, I ran out straight to the lounge, which she also wasn't in. I thought that maybe she was hungry, so I ran to the kitchen. Again no trace, some part of me was getting worried. There was one more room I could check and that was the guest room.

I reach my paws up to the handle pulling it down, then I walked into the guest room, again nothing!

Okay so I was worried. Where was she?! What about if she went back to the lookout? Maybe there's an emergency, well wouldn't my pup tag go off as well? Also Skye wouldn't just leave, she would at least tell me where she was going. I walked back and forth going in circles. Making myself somewhat dizzy. I stopped spinning just as I heard a voice coming from...the front door. I shook my head, why would she be out there? Maybe Ryder did call the PAW Patrol? I walked closer, seeing the door a little open and a light brown tail swinging back and forward. Relieved, I was just about to open the door until I heard her voice - no it wasn't just hers. I placed my ear to the door to listen.

"Skye, I thought you didn't want to talk to me?" That voice, it sounded so familiar.

"I know, but it's weird not hearing your voice for so long,"

"Skye, you've only been gone four days, that's not long besides you're the one who wanted a break."

"I know, I'm sorry for what happened last week, maybe when I come back, we can go out? Just you and me?" Wait what? Who was she talking too?

"Erm...I don't know, listen Skye I need to talk to you about something, at first I felt it was a mistake, but now I'm glad it happened." Why is it so hard to recognize that voice, stupid doors. Why do they make these things sound proof?!

"What do you mean Chase?"

Chase? That's who she's talking too, why would she talk to him after all what happened? Maybe she called to tell him it's over? I felt my tail wag, I know I was being selfish, but once they're not mates any more I can finally mark her as mine.

"Maybe it's best if I tell you when you get back to the lookout. Anyway Skye, I got to go Ryder needs me." Finally conversation over.

"Why can't you tell me now? What do you mean Ryder needs you, our pup tags are not going off?" Or so I thought, why is she asking so many questions?

"Ryder doesn't always have to call all of us you know?" I heard a low growl. "I don't see why you're so angry Skye? I told you I'll tell you when you get here. Just let it go for now!" Something sounded so different with Chase's voice, was this how he always talked with her?

"I can't just let it go, tell me now! We're mates remember? we're not meant to keep secrets or lie." I wish she would let that word go! I wonder when they won't be 'mates' any more.

"So, it doesn't mean anything, you said yourself Skye and I won't tell you now! Who do think you are, some alpha, I'm not a pup on strings I don't have to obey to your every word! Also what do you mean by lies? Who's lying?" Why was this suddenly so interesting? I couldn't stop listening, even though it's not right to eavesdrop.

"You! You lie all the time Chase, for once why don't you tell me the truth?!"

"Truth? Truth about what Skye? When have I ever lied to you?" I wonder what question she was going to answer first.

"Everyday Chase, since we've been mates, why do you think we had that argument in the first place, think back to what happened last week?" Seriously what happened last week, because every pup seems to think it's so important?!

"What do you mean? Please don't tell me you're talking about that day when I was out in the fields with Marshall, just as friends?!" I heard another growl, when will this end?

"Yes I am, and cut the 'friends' act Chase, I know you love him! Every pup knows."

"Skye, cut it out. No I don't, he's my best friend. Stop being so jealous."

"Yeah is that why you gave him a mating mark? Because he's just your friend. I bet you also let it him mark you, isn't it?" Oh no, now you done it Skye. Zuma better run.

"Who told you that?" I heard him ask, his voice growing somewhat dark.

"It doesn't matter! Is that what you wanted to tell me? That you've finally ready to admit you love Marshall?"

"Skye, it wasn't like that! I wasn't myself, I told you, I'll explain everything when you get back to the lookout. Now I got to go by-"

"Tell me, do even love me? Do you have any feelings for me at all Chase? Because Zuma told me you don't! You only asked me to be your mate because you felt sorry for me! I don't need you to tell me any more lies, I know the truth Chase." I heard her say, before growling once more.

"I'm going to so kill Z-" he stopped, I thought he cut off his pup tag, apparently not. "You know what I don't even care any more, fine you want the truth I'll tell you, but after this don't expect me to come running back to you." Finally now I can understand what's going on. "Skye, the truth is no, I don't love you...I never did. Even though I knew how you felt, I continued to just keep you as a friend, I did feel sorry for you, that's why I marked you, maybe if I pretend to be your mate then you would back off a little, but you didn't. Everyday you always wanted to be with me, I couldn't stand it! I'm sorry Skye, I can't keep on going on like this any more we're not meant to be together. Part of me is happy you saw me in the fields with Marshall and I'm glad you found out about the mating mark. You may have my mark, but I'll never have yours! That's why I never let you mark me! All what's happened this weekend made me realise who I really love, who I want as my mate...one day you'll find some pup, I'm sorry, but that's not me, we're over."

'One day, what does he mean? She's already found a mate.'

"Before you go, tell me who you love?" Really Skye why do you care so much?

"I thought you already knew, I thought I made it clear enough?"

"Yeah you did, but I want to hear you say it so I know what a big mistake I made being your mate."

"It's Marshall, I'm in love with him...I always have been." I heard a huff of frustration.

"So I guess that's it, we're over. You're all happy with Marshall, and I'm on my own." How when she has me? This doesn't make sense any more.

"Yes Skye. That doesn't mean you're alone you'll get a mate soon. Now I'm done talking, goodbye." That's it no more secrets. I felt my tail wag again, knowing that now, Skye's mine.

"Goodbye Chase, I love you," Wait what?

"I'm sorry Skye," That was the last thing he said. before he cut off his pup tag, Skye did the same, out of the corner of my eye I saw her walk away from the porch, her collar now hanging in her mouth. I watched her suddenly throw it, screaming.

"I hate you!"

Not bothered to get confused again, I walked back into the cabin. Suddenly thoughts clouded my head.

'What does she mean by she loves him? Just yesterday she said she doesn't love him any more, she had a fight with Zuma all over it!' I'm also starting to think does Skye love me at all? Or was she only pretending? I shook my head, I didn't have time for thoughts block my mind.

I walked back into the bathroom, just as I heard the front door slam shut. I'm just going to pretend I didn't hear her talking to Chase, maybe she'll tell me. Seconds later I saw her walk in the bathroom, anger and heartbreak spread all over her muzzle. That sweet smile she always has, turned upside down. I knew she was upset, although it would be best not to ask questions, that might give the suspicion I was eavesdropping.

"Bath's ready, what took you so long, couldn't find your collar?" I asked, acting happy.

I saw her walking towards the bath, not even making eye contact with me. I watched her jump into the water, I guess half full bath is okay. If I wasn't so concerned for her, I would be drooling over how pretty Skye looks when she's wet. I shook my head trying to concentrate, her bad mood was getting to me, not to mention the little tears that fall down her muzzle, time after time.

"Skye, you alright?" Hearing no response made me worry even more, even harder to not tell her what I heard minutes ago. I watched her shake her fur, spraying water all over me. I could only growl in annoyance, as she began to laugh, her muzzle turning a light shade of red.

"I-I'm sorry Everest, I didn't mean to do that." I watched her laugh some more. Then catching me by surprise she licked down the side of my muzzle.

"Was that supposed to be your way of saying sorry?" She shook her head.

"Nope, that was my way of stop growling and get that sponge over there." Huh? I tore my eyes away from her looking over at a brightly light blue sponge hanging on the door.

'How was I meant to get that down?' I thought, while walking to the door. I wasn't even that tall enough not even if I stand on my hind legs. I faced Skye once again, who was currently still laughing standing up in the back. Unexpectedly she jumped back down, now pulling out a red sponge. I was once again, shocked and annoyed. 'You got too be kidding me?' Now I'm happy I didn't grab the other one. If I did, it would be just a waste of time.

I slowly walked back to the bath, standing up once again on the stool, gently taking the sponge away from her with my canines. I knew what she wanted me to do, and I knew this wasn't going to be easy. I took a deep breath before letting the sponge soak, while struggling the take the thing back out.

"You know it would be so much easier if you got in with me?" No way! I can't risk anything happening. I'm keeping my paws on the ground - wait how am I meant to wash her if I don't want to risk touching her.

'Why is this suddenly so difficult?!' I thought, while growing in frustration, then I noticed one of her paws still had a bandage on it.

"Hey Skye, that thing waterproof?" She tilted her head in confusion. Before looking at her left paw.

"Not that I know of, you tell me? After all you're the one who fixed me up." Oh yeah I forgot, she was completely unconscious when I called Marshall over. Would she be mad with me if I told her?

"W-well Skye you should probably know that I wasn't the one who helped you, I only cleaned up your wounds. The rest I didn't touch. After all I'm no medic I know nothing about internal bleeding or scratches so I called some pup who does." I'm going to be sleeping in the dog house after this, I just know it. Especially by the look on her muzzle, Skye didn't look happy one bit.

"Who did you call?" Now I was really scared, Skye can be kind of intimidating when she's angry, not to mention the growling. Yikes, I didn't feel like having my head chewed off. I took another deep breath before replying.

"Marshall," I softly said, before hearing a low growl. I looked up suddenly seeing water coming towards me. Now that definitely wasn't funny. "Listen Skye, I had no choice he was the only one who knows about injuries and how to mend them, if I took you to the hospital I would risk ever pup finding out what happened, Ryder and Jake included. I don't want Zuma to get kicked out of the PAW Patrol." She was still growling, seriously what did I do?

"So, you could of made something up, told a complete lie. You didn't have to say it was Zuma's fault even though it would be best if he does get kicked out!" I can't believe what I'm hearing.

"Why say that Skye, don't you care that you've lost your best friend over something so stupid? Even though half of it was your fault." Great now I've done it.

"What! How is it my fault? Zuma's the one who kept going on h-"

"I'm not talking about that Skye, I'm talking about when you purposely told Rocky about the mark that Zuma gave you. Why would you do that Skye? You could've ruined their relationship, don't you even care?" No response except another low growl. Seriously I'm getting sick of this!

"Just let it go Everest! I don't want to talk about Zuma!" I completely understood that.

"Okay fine, then why are you so mad at me for calling Marshall? Just because you're not talking to him, doesn't mean I have to as well. He's still my friend, why are you so mad with him for, - no you know what, why don't you tell me what happened last week? Because it's seems to be so important to you, so come on tell me? Don't I have the right to know?" Another splash of water thrown at me. Really Skye? I faced her, seeing her eyes glued to the water.

At first I thought I was given the silent treatment again, that was until she spoke, somehow her voice seemed to be breaking

One week ago

"Zuma?" The light brown Cockapoo cried, running up to her best friend.

'Oh gweat, what does she want now?' The Chocolate Labrador thought, while walking out of his pup house, lightly stretching.

"I wonder what Skye wants?" A light grey pup said, walking up to his mate softly nuzzling him. Zuma shrugged his shoulders in response. Just as Skye stopped running in front of them.

"Finally, oh hey Rocky. Zuma have you seen Chase at all? I can't seem to find that pup anywhere." Once again Zuma shrugged his shoulders in response.

"Sowwy Skye, ain't seen him. Maybe he's in the lookout?" Skye shook her head in response.

"Nope tried it, I've been to the park, the bay and even city hall. There seems to be no trace of him."

"What about the fields? The ones near the pup park, Chase usually goes there with Marshall, he might be there." Rocky said, as Zuma deadpanned, slapping a front paw across his muzzle giving himself a metal slap.

"You're right Rocky, I didn't even think to check there, thanks guys." With that Skye left, running towards the pup park. Once she was gone Rocky turned to face Zuma once more seeing him with an angered look.

"What?" Rocky asked, tilting his head in confusion.

"Don't act like you don't know, sewouisly you that clueless, don't you wememebew what Chase told us befowe he went to the fields with Mawshall?" Rocky shook his head in response." You idiot, he said; whatevew you do don't tell Skye! Don't you wememebew him telling us that?" Rocky paled, smiling sheepishly.

"Oh yeah, now I remember, but what I don't get, is why he wouldn't want Skye finding out? They are mates after all." Once again Zuma slapped a paw to his muzzle. Deadpanned.

"Sometimes Wocky, you'we such an idiot," Zuma smiled, licking Rocky's cheek in affection. The mixed breed could only tilt his head in more confusion.

On the other side of the lookout was a small park, filled with adventure, outside the park was fields of green, it was a quiet area mostly to think or two spend a day or night with your bestest friend. Not many pups knew about this place. Except for two, who were currently next to each other laying on the grass. One was lightly chewing on a piece of golden straw, wearing his favourite navy blue Stetson with the yellow star on it. His best friend could only watch in confusion.

"Remind me again Chase, why did you wear that today?" The Dalmatian asked, lightly flicking the straw that his best friend was chewing on.

"Because it's hot and ah would appreciate if yah didn't 'do that," The German Shepherd said, just as his best friend erupted in laughter.

"T-that voice, you sound like you're from the south like farmer al."

"What do ya mean Marshall? This is how ah always talk." Chase said once again, raising his eyebrow at his best friend.

"Cut it out Chase, talk normal?"

"Ah am talking normal, it's just plain country." Chase replied suddenly hearing laughter again.

"P-please stop, I can't take any more, you sound so silly," Marshall said, facing his friend who had a slight pout.

"Thanks so much for supporting meh, anyway if yah want meh tah stop, yah have to make me?" Marshall easily took that as a challenge as he looked at his friend, with a smirk he reached up, so his mouth was hovering over Chase's ear, then he spoke in a low whisper.

"Do I now? What about you stop...then I'll make it worth your while?" Chase gulped, feeling his muzzle grow hot. Then he felt a wet sensation going down his ear to the side of his muzzle, getting closer to his lips. Chase caught his breath as Marshall traveled lower, almost touching his lips, Chase closed his eyes.

When he felt nothing, Chase's eyes reopened, unexpectedly seeing Marshall's muzzle inches from his. Chase felt himself getting pulled closer, two seconds away. He closed his eyes once again, only to open them back open when he felt Marshall reached up grabbing the navy blue Stetson off his head, then jumping onto his four paws slightly leaning down with his tail wagging in the air.

"Hey that's mine, give it back." Chase said, letting out a little growl, before jumping onto all fours as well. Blushing even more when he saw Marshall throw the hat up so it was placed on top of his head.

'Wow...it looks good on him.' Chase shook his head clearing his mind of any more thoughts, before walking forward while Marshall walked back.

"You've got to catch me first?" Marshall said, before running across the fields.

'Hmm, shouldn't be that hard,' Chase thought, waiting five seconds before running after Marshall.

After so many minutes of running, Marshall stopped, catching his breath looking over, seeing no signs of Chase. Once he thought he was in the clear, he fell back on the grass letting the hat slip over his eyes.

Before he could pull it back, he was suddenly pounced on, an extra weight now pinning him down. Then he felt hot breath hovering in front of his muzzle, surprisingly nuzzling the hat off his eyes. Once Marshall could see again, he was in view with a grinning Chase, whose muzzle was inches from his.

"Caught you," Chase said in between breaths still catching it. Marshall smiled throwing his paws over Chase's neck.

"I guess you did, so you still want me to make it worth your while? After all you did stop talking in that country voice." Marshall whispered, running his paw across Chase neck, lightly grabbing onto his collar, pulling him closer, so their muzzles were touching and their lips inches away. Chase caught his breath again, before speaking in a somewhat raspy voice.

"H-how?" He asked.

"There is something I've been meaning to do," Marshall whispered once more. As he grabbed on Chase's collar again, this time bringing their lips in contact with each other. The kiss was slow, each movement gentle and soft. Their lips moving in synchronization, as one.

Seconds later they both pulled away, their eyes locked in a passionate gaze. Chase bit his lip in a sudden desire, moving closer. Before he could kiss Marshall again, the Dalmatian turned his head away, so they were not in eye contact any more. Chase didn't want that, he wanted Marshall to look at him. So with one of his front paws he gently turned Marshall's head back, facing him. Chase's expression changed when he saw fresh tears running down the side of Marshall's muzzle.

"I-I'm sorry Chase, I shouldn't of done that. What was I thinking? I-I can't do this...you're with Skye and we're just f-friends." Chase didn't like it when Marshall cries, he wanted his best friend to be happy not sad. Chase reached a paw to the left side of Marshall muzzle, lightly caressing him. Then he leaned down, licking away the fresh tears that were running down Marshall's fur. Once he was sure all the tears were gone, Chase licked up, travelling to Marshall's ear, lightly nibbling on it. Then he spoke in a soft whisper.

"Don't worry about Skye, for once let's pretend she doesn't exist? Now, would you mind kissing me again? I really liked the feeling." Marshall was surprised, it was so unlike Chase to talk like that, but of course he couldn't deny he liked the feeling as well and wanted more. As Chase ran his tongue back down Marshall muzzle, the Dalmatian again grabbed onto Chase's collar, pulling the German Shepherd back down, crashing his lips back onto Marshall's. They time they kissed hungrily like nothing mattered in the whole world except for this one moment. They both wanted more. Chase kissed the timid Dalmatian deeper, licking along his bottom lip, gently biting on it.

Marshall suddenly gasped, letting out a small moan. Chase took this as an advantage to sneak his tongue in, connecting with Marshall's in seconds, the Dalmatian's paws automatically wrapped back around the German Shepherd's neck, never wanting to let go.

The two so lost in simple bliss that they didn't even notice fuchsia eyes watching them, tears staining her eyes. As she felt her heart break in two.

'Why Chase? I thought you loved me?'

~ ~ ~ End of flashback

"That's it, that why you're so mad at Marshall, for one little kiss in the fields?" I slapped a paw to my muzzle, somewhat deadpanned.

"No, it isn't just that!" I heard her say.

"Okay then tell me, why are you so mad at him for?" Yet again another growl.

"Because he's taken the one pup I've ever loved!"

What did she mean? 'The only pup' does that mean she doesn't love me? It can't be. I suddenly felt tears stain my eyes, I didn't even feel like fighting them, as I let them fall freely down my muzzle. I hated crying and I will definitely not let her see.

"W-wait that's not what I mean Everest, Eve you listening?"

I didn't hear her, I didn't want to hear any more lies! I decided the best thing right now is, to leave, I can't bare to be next to her right now. I stepped off the stool, walking backwards. Before I left, I said one last thing.

"They were right, you don't love me. How could I have been so stupid?!" Once I said that I ran, I ran out of the room towards the front door, I had to get away, I had to get my thoughts together. Before I think what I'll do next. Or I know is I want the truth from her, no more lies!

I kept on running, I could see many trees around me, the sun almost covered by the leaves. I realised I was in the forests that were not far from the cabin. I haven't been running for so long, but I suddenly feel so tired. I ended up walking instead. I knew where I was and I knew where exactly I should go.

After walking for so long I found it. My favorite spot in the whole forest. It's was still early, so there was no moon illuminating in front of me. I know it wouldn't really be in my nature to do this, but it was mostly the only way I dealt with pain.

I walked over to the small hilltop, where you can overlook the whole forest with part of the ocean in front. If you step any closer you'll fall into the water. I soon realised that without the moon it would be pointless to sing - well howling isn't really singing it's more like soft music without any words. However when I howl it makes me feel connected with another species that people say are our ancestors. I guess they are in a way.

That type of animal is a wolf, at first many people thought I was a wolf, because of my fur and the way my muzzle is, but they realised that I'm not, by looking at my eyes. When young wolves have blue eyes, however as soon as they reach mature age which is about 10 weeks, their eye colour changes to the common hue of gold or a light amber. I should know as I was raised by them, until their pack had to leave. They wanted me to go, but some part of me decided to stay. As their eyes changed, mine stayed that same, that same old cerulean blue.

Even though I'm not with my pack any more, I still howl, I've always done it ever since I lost my first friend. She was a wolf, a grey one to be exact, her eyes were gold-ish yellow and her howls were simply soft notes that sounded so happy, yet so sad. There wasn't anything to describe her except she was beautiful inside and out. When I met her she was a pup just like me, but a little bigger. She taught me many things, how to survive on my own, did I mention she was a lone wolf. She lost her pack to wolf hunters. I can still remember when she would howl every night, hoping that one day she'll be with them again.

One night she even taught me how to howl. At first I couldn't do it, that was until she would place her paws on mine, softly saying.

"Howl from your heart,"

That was exactly what I did, not to mention instinct kicked in. She would sometimes let me howl with her, she also said that I should've been born a wolf, but I was fine with just being a husky. We would have so many adventures. I would leave the pack, to join her in hunting or just too play. That was until she was caught.

I remember a person, stepping into her territory, suddenly capturing her. He would've gone after me as well, however he left as soon as he saw my eyes, he knew I wasn't a wolf. As I watched her get taken away, I howled, I couldn't help her, I didn't know what to do. That's when my pack found out and they left.

I never saw her again, still every night I howl hoping one day, I'll hear her howl back.

She was also the first pup, I had ever fallen in love with. I didn't even get a chance to tell her. At night I still dream of her and that name that will never leave my memory.

'Moonlight.'

So I didn't howl today, however there was another thing I do when I'm sad, when I feel hurt in some way and that's singing. Also something that's not meant in my nature. Although it was a way I dealt with pain.

I perked my ears up, so I could hear the wind which would be the tune to my song. Once I had it, I let the first words leave my lips. It wasn't that hard to find the lyrics, after all I have my inspiration

'Skye'

Tell me how do you feel

Tell me if everything we have is real

Tell me why do you still care

Tell me is there any love that we share

lately I've been thinking,

That everything you said was a lie

this is some game you're playing

That you don't even want to try

Maybe you were just happy

that I stayed by your side,

When every pup left you,

It always was me

that held you day and night

Were they right,

did you play my heartstrings

did you mean it when you said you loved me

Or did you say it,

so I'll never leave you behind

Tell me anything you said, was it real at all

I could feel the music in me, memories flooded my mind, all about what happened this weekend. I closed my eyes, only hearing the wind softly blowing as I sang the next part.

Cause right now I'm lost,

I don't know what to do

I'm still thinking, what I should tell you

Is there any point still holding on

Even though, I don't want to let go..

No matter what you say

No matter what you do

I can't seem,

I can't seem to stay away from you.

These mixed feelings you're giving me

Are tearing me in two

My next thoughts went back to what happened today. The things that she said to Chase and what she said to me, I just realised that was our first argument.

I love you,

does that even mean anything

How do you feel when I kiss you

Does it feel right or does it feel wrong

Is this how you get what you want

You knew how I felt,

When you said it back, it made me melt

I know you have some pup

still I couldn't keep away

Now you've hurt me

With those words you said

It felt so cold,

Do you even care

Why do you feel so far away

Even though we're so close

What are these droplets that fall

Are they tears on love

Do I even have a chance

Or will he, be the only one you love

I thought the last line I sang, should be the chorus so it would be right to sing it one more time.

Cause right now I'm lost,

I don't know what to do

I'm still thinking, what I should tell you

Is there any point still holding on

Even though, I don't want to let go..

No matter what you say

No matter what you do

I can't seem,

I can't seem to stay away from you.

These mixed feelings you're giving me

Are tearing me in two

One more verse, to end it. I hear the tune of the wind a little different a slower rhythm. Maybe it means my song is coming to an end?

I keep coming back,

I'm running, I'm running back to you

I can't stay away

I can't stay away

No matter what you do..

Nothing will stop me

I can't stay away from you...

No, no I can't stay away from you...

Once I heard the final note from the wind, I stopped. I kept my eyes closed as I lifted my head up howling, I was so lost in the howl, that I didn't even hear some pup saying something.

"Is that really how you feel?"
