Elizabeth took one last sip of her frap before tossing the empty container into her trash can. Taking her phone out of her purse, she unplugged the ear buds and tossed them both onto her couch before kicking her shoes off.
Tony was one of the last people she ever expected running into on that side of town, but there he was. Dark hair and dark eyes. The more she thought about it the more she craved him. It was as if she had a devil and an angel on each shoulder. One telling her that she could call him up and demand he came over at that very moment while the other berated her for ever letting him affect her like that. She knew better than to let him get under her skin but there he was again.
Elizabeth was in a bind she couldn't get out of. All she wanted was to talk to her dad. The red-head knew her mama would listen but always tell her to pull herself together. Her mother had those small town views where one would cross their legs at the ankle, never leave the house without make and never ever cry in front of strangers.
Lifting her phone from the cushion she called her father. Listening to the ring, she was worried he was doing something important and wouldn't be able to comfort his only child. After the ninth ring her father answered in a concerned manner.
"Hello baby girl, is everything alright?" the voice on the other end questioned.
"I'm not too sure daddy, but I just needed someone to talk to." Elizabeth's voice shook slightly.
"Talk to me peanut."
His concern for her was apparent in his silence while he waited for her to begin explaining what had her all upset. Taking a deep breath Elizabeth started from the beginning and told her father the journey that brought her up to this very moment, leaving out the more explicit content that he didn't need to know. Never once did he interrupt her or exhale in judgement. Once she was done telling her father of the painful times she had endured recently, he finally spoke.
"Baby girl, I am so sorry about that. I didn't know that's how things were going to go between you and Tony, but if I would have known I would have kicked his ass right there in the hospital room. Do you want me to come there? I can still kick his ass you know, regardless of him being a man in a tin can." Elizabeth's father said sternly.
Elizabeth couldn't help but to chuckle at his tone. As well as she knew the difference between night and day, she also knew her father meant every word of what he was saying.
"No daddy, I don't think he needs you to come here and teach him a lesson. I know you would in a heartbeat, but that's not why I called. I just wanted someone to talk to. To make sure that I didn't make the wrong choice."
There was another pause from his end of the phone while she waited for him to decided. She stood up and stared out the window, out at the vast view of the city from the only window she had any sort of view from. It felt as if she could see forever while she waited for what felt like forever for his response.
"Peanut, I think that you are an adult who knows what is best for her. As much as this old warhorse wants you to be his little girl forever, the one who comes to me for a band-aid for your skinned knees. I know you will do what feels right in your heart. Mama and I taught you to follow your heart and your faith."
"You know mama would tell me to pull myself together." She laughed
"Thats only because your mother has that small town train of thought and all that military training got to her. But you should never doubt for a moment that she loves you and wants what is best for you."
Elizabeth exhaled and smiled against the phone. "You are right daddy, I am going to let you go. I will talk to you later, love you."
"Love you too, Peanut." he said, before disconnecting the call.
Elizabeth placed the cellphone on the table next to her by the window and ran her fingers through her red hair. Looking at the time she snatched her phone back from the table and sent a text message to Tony. She hoped he would reply to her after the run in earlier that day. Staring at the phone in her hand, her message tone went off giving her the exact message she wanted from him. Letting a smile tug at her lips, she placed her phone back on the table and headed to the bathroom. She needed to get ready.
Stepping off the personal jet of Tony Stark onto Texas gravel was like releasing a burden. The sound of the gravel under her boots was like the sound of home. Tony stepped off the plane right behind her, smoothing out his buttoned down shirt. Elizabeth couldn't help but to roll her eyes at the sight of him. He agreed to go with her to Texas for another party like the one where they ended up the night they first met, but again he was over dressed. She was dressed comfortably in her cut off shorts, leather cowgirl boots, and a lace peach bandeau under a loose fitting gray tank top.
Elizabeth bent the brim of her camouflage hat a little more around her eyes to keep the sun. Turning to face him, she gave him a million dollar smile with her arms in the air. All Tony could do was shake his head, leading them to the car that was waiting for their arrival. The older gentleman opened the passenger side door for her to slip into the dropped top black Acura. Tony walked along the front of the car and slipped into the drivers seat.
"You would think you would get something more logical for where I seem to drag you" Elizabeth said, raising an eyebrow.
Tony gave her a small smirk, and turned the engine on. "You know that I like to do the opposite of what everyone expects of me."
The red head shook her head and laughed, typing the coordinates into the GPS. Tony took off following the directions that were displayed on the screen. Flipping through the radio stations, Elizabeth placed the radio on the country station and threw her hands in the air while the breeze blew through her hair, tossing her hat off her head. Letting out a squeal, she looked behind them at the hat blowing down the road.
"Do you want me to turn around to get it?" Tony asked, slowing the car down slightly. Elizabeth shook her head no, causing him to pick the speed back up. Placing a palm on her exposed thigh, he gave it a quick squeeze, leaving it there. Elizabeth knew she choice of attire would work wonders for her with his attention.
