Chapter 8

The following morning things were normal as normal could be in the Kent farm. Clark with the assistance from Adam were busy doing the morning chores. Clark found the help and the company helpful and found that there brotherly bonding was a big gain to this as they would talk about things that revolved around past and future. Most of the time Clark was the main talker as Adam had no recollection of his past but Clark didn't mind he found it amusing to tell his brother the adventures he had already had in his young life and Adam would just listen which he was good at. Adam of course could only wish he could of lived the life Clark has he had grown to envy his brothers adventures and could only wish that he had to tell a story back.

Clark had noticed Adam had been really quiet today normally he would be asking questions about human culture and random questions to help him understand the way of the world. Today however Adam had been distant and just got along with the days chores. He knew Adam was frustrated after last night and Clark let him think things through on his own through the night.

Adam's thoughts dwelled on what had happened the previous night in the stable with the encounter with Lana. The fact that she had offered to help Adam which she termed "Dancing issues", or the fact he thought it would be best to keep this from Clark's attention. He had now been made aware of Clark and Lana's past and he knew deep down he would make things worse iff anyone knew. But Adam needed help he didn't want to feel stupid in front of Chloe iff she wanted to dance and he wanted not just to prove it to everyone but also to himself that he can do this on his own.

"Nervous about Saturday?" Clark spoke through his thoughts making Adam look up from bailing the hay in the barn.

Adam was trying to think of a way to respond instead he just nodded and continued piling of the hay with his rake. Clark just sighed as the silence between them continued.

"Listen…when Lionel comes over tonight…just be careful" Clark spoke more demanding than he should of.

Adam glanced up for a moment looking at his brother discreetly.

"What do you mean?" Adam said as he stopped his chores momentarily.

"Its just…I don't trust him?" Clark said trying to return to his chores knowing Adam would just accept his warning; his brother's reply took his off guard.

"So that means I can't?" Adam said in a low tone.

Clark then stopped piling the box's of hey into stacks and faced his brother quite surprised at Adams response.

"No...I'm just saying that you can't believe everything that comes out of a Luthor's mouth"

Adam face slowly squinted as his lips drew closer and replied with a slight more volume in his voice.

"And that's because you said so"

"Adam I just don't think you understand what type of people they are…" Clark was immediately cut off by Adam who spoke out in annoyance.

"No, what I don't understand is why you won't let me judge people myself"

"Because you're not ready to yet" Clark snapped back and realized what he said and noticed Adam grip on the rake tighten slightly hearing the wooden handle begin to strain.

"Adam…" Clark slowly approached him "I didn't mean it like that…I know its been a tough month for all of us adjusting to this…I just want to do what's best for you"

Adam felt a rush of anger build up inside him and like a volcano he erupted through his words.

"That's just it Clark your taking over my life and not letting me do what I thinks best…do me a favor stop holding me BACK!"

The last word thundered across the barn and as he spoke the rake he was holding shattered into pieces and before Clark even had a chance to realize a rush of wind past him and Adam was gone.

Clark took a moment to process what had just happened when his Martha came rushing into the barn.

"What on earth was that…" and she noticed the pieces of what was left of the rake shattered across the floor.

Clark mealy sighed there was no point chasing after Adam he needed time to cool off. So he crouched down to start picking up the pieces of the broken rake and realized more importantly as his mom put a reassuring hand on his shoulder that he also had to pick up the pieces of his relationship with his brother.

Adam had ran without thinking he just wanted to get away from the farm as his frustration had led him to his outburst. He knew in someway he was right Clark was smothering him and not letting him do things without his consent.

The fact of the matter is he needed his brother, not a father.

His thoughts returned to were he was and realized he had stopped near the Daily planet as he came out of a nearby alleyway.

He knew Chloe was working but she always would have time to see him as he walked out to approach the huge building of the planet.

He reached in his pocket and found the cell phone Chloe gave to him. After last nights incident with Lana he made sure he knew how to use after reading the manual how to use the phone over 20 times so it was imbedded in his brain.

He hovered over her name was about to press the green button to call her when a voice spoke to him making him stop his actions.

"Hello Adam"

Adam had to blink twice to make sure the cell was not talking to him then realized the voice was calling him from behind.

He turned around and was quite surprised to see who was standing in front of him and let out a small smile and replied with no hesitancy that his brother would of iff he were here.

"Hello Lex"
