Cagalli can almost smell the foul smell of her adversaries as the other man's face keeps getting closer to her. She can't believe that she will be raped by these delinquents. She tried her hardest to untangle her hands from the leader's vicious grip but to no avail. Her legs were also trapped by the perverted maniac and she couldn't move an inch. The other one was just laughing eerily.
Unconsciously, tears were about to escape from her golden orbs due to panic and helplessness. The face of the delinquent leader was already centimeter away and he was about to claim her lips. In a desperate move, Cagalli pushed her head to gain momentum and blew a head bat. It truly hurts like hell that blood was slowly dripping in her face. Must have some cut after the head bat but it doesn't matter so long as she will be free with them. Her eyes landed on the man but unfortunately, he was not affected at all. He was still wearing that creepy and maniac grin.
"HELP!" She shouted at the top of her lungs.
"Not gonna happen," he resumed his perverted act but this time, his other hand fiercely pulled her hair to avoid another head bat attempt.
Cagalli was already out of options and it's the first time she felt such vulnerability. Or maybe self- loathing? Because the ORB elders even provided her a bodyguard but she drove him away. What a reckless decision as the Head Representative of a respected nation. Surely after this, the blame will fall solely on herself and no one else. Tears rolled down uncontrollably as she silently sobbed feeling weak and feeble. She only closed her eyes accepting her harsh reality.
After seemed like forever, she heard a very loud thud in front of her. She then felt relief as the strong grip were gone throughout her body. Cagalli slowly opened her teary eyes and she couldn't believe that the person she was imagining a while ago transpired in front of her — her Red Knight.
Athrun was punching both of them in an inhuman force that she could even hear some cracking of their bones. The two delinquents were already lying in just a few seconds, clearly immobile of Athrun's attack but he was still continuously punching or kicking them.
"Athrun stop!" Kisaka shouted as he rushed on Cagalli's side. "You'll kill them. Stop that and call the police!"
Cagalli's legs gave way that made her lose balance and sat on the cold street. She was still shaking in distress and Kisaka offered his military jacket on her narrow shoulder. The shock must have consumed Cagalli that she lost consciousness in Kisaka's arms.
Cagalli slowly opened her eyes but the light was blinding her. She closed her eyes to adjust the brightness and opened her eyes again. Groggily, Cagalli assessed her surroundings and realized that she was in her room back in the Palace. How much she wished that what happened earlier was just a dream. However, as soon as she was about to rise from her bed, the pain in her forehead stung. It was carefully bandaged to stop the blood from the cut she got.
"Cagalli!" she turned to the source of the voice and saw Athrun dashing to her side. He was already dressed in his military uniform.
"Are you hurt somewhere? Are you hungry? Do you need something? I will get it for you right away!" he was evidently panicking and overly concerned, much to Cagalli's confusion since he was always maintaining his calm composure.
She just remained speechless with her mouth agape.
"Here, have some water," he held the glass for her and sipped some water to clear her throat.
"What time is it?" was her first statement.
"It's 3 in the morning. You had been sleeping for almost 14 hours," Athrun sat on a chair beside her.
She stole a gaze and noticed the dark circles under the Coordinator's eyes. He did not obviously sleep.
"Funny that a Coordinator can still get eye bags," she laughed dryly but Athrun did not return the humor.
"How are you feeling?"
Cagalli now took her time studying his face, as if memorizing every detail. How his emerald orbs would shine, his narrow nose, thin lips and pointed jaw. She will definitely miss him… That idea alone made her tear up.
Athrun must have noticed the sudden change in Cagalli's emotion so he called her again, "Cagalli, tell me how are you feeling."
"Hurt," she simply answered and a lone tear fell. She hated the fact that she was crying a lot lately. Cagalli just wanted to expend all her tears away so that one day, her tears will dry up and she will no longer cry for Athrun and their future.
He clenched his fists and replied bitterly, "Those two were now under the custody of the police and the ORB Higher Court will personally handle the case for you. They will make sure that they will be punished to the extent of the law."
She dropped her head and nodded.
"Answer me properly Cagalli," Athrun stated in a low voice that made Cagalli shudder. He was dead serious and continued, "Did they touch you?"
"N… no… no," Cagalli stuttered and denied his question honestly. The pervert only attempted to kiss her but she was not touched. Though the grip on her wrist was still sore.
"Then, promise me Cagalli," Athrun caught Cagalli's golden eyes to show his sincerity and ensure the promise Cagalli will be making. "Take care of yourself when I'm not here. Promise me," his voice was so gentle and she can only succumb.
His soft hands found her hands and held it with utmost care like some porcelain he is afraid to break. "Promise me…" he was almost begging.
"Of course," Cagalli answered. How weird that she was treating him coldly after the Second War and cannot almost exchange a proper conversation. But here they are, talking comfortably like old friends they used to be. This may be for the best. The days of Athrun in ORB were already counted and they need to sort things out for themselves to bade a proper farewell.
Athrun sealed Cagalli's promise by kissing the back of her hand gently. It was a light kiss but bolts of electricity were already running in Cagalli's spine. She was already missing him. Their precious moments were flooded like some flashback on her mind that she cannot stop.
Athrun surely took his time kissing her hands as she noticed that he was not moving but a slight movement of his broad shoulders caught her eyes. He was trying his hardest to sniffle a sob, "Forgive me Cagalli, forgive me for being powerless…"
"No Athrun!" Cagalli instantly enveloped Athrun's hands into hers and sobbed, "Forgive me… I should be the one you need to forgive for being powerless. I… I cannot lift the deport orders. I wanted you to spend the rest of your life here in ORB…" Her last words were almost inaudible with her cries, "with me."
Maybe being honest with him would not hurt her, Cagalli thoughy.
Athrun did surely hear her. He let a small smile form in his lips and wiped Cagalli's tears. He will definitely miss those times wiping her tears, comforting her, hugging her, holding her…
Cagalli held his hands on her face. His hands would always be warm. She will miss this.
"Promise me Cagalli…" Athrun broke the silence. How she would miss his gentle and cool voice always calling her name. "Don't cry for me anymore."
He did it. Tears starting to fell in Cagalli's irrepressibly. Probably the most she cried in her lifetime. She could not properly see Athrun's face anymore because of the uncontrollable tears.
She simply shook her head, "That, I can' — "
Athrun cut her off by claiming her lips. This would be the last time he will kiss her. He seized the moment by feeling her soft and tender lips against his. Athrun expressed all his repressions, frustrations and regrets through his intense kiss with Cagalli — her unfulfilled love. The girl she loved the most yet destiny will tore them apart.
Cagalli also responded with the same intensity as if sensing Athrun's feelings and understanding this would be their last kiss.
Cagalli's POV
Powerful rain started to pour in ORB since yesterday. Even the skies resonated with my feelings. I had my inner turmoil that I am not already properly functioning. The ORB elders, Kisaka, Myrna and other representatives already noticed my unwell mood. That is because today is Athrun's last day in ORB. I decided not to see him off because I might do some drastic, stupid and biased decision solely based on my personal feelings. Maybe I and Athrun were not just meant to be. True enough, we loved each other and the romantic feeling is mutual, however, circumstances were not in our favor. There are just loves that no matter how much you preserve, fate can destroy it. And in our Athrun's situation, we were both powerless to stay with another. He can no longer go here in ORB. Yes, I can go to PLANTS anytime but I cannot be able to stay there due to my duties as the Head Representative of my country. We can always see each other in PLANTS — but I think better off as a friend. We can only only stay that way ...

A/N: Swear! I had a happy ending on my mind but what the heck happened? I already killed Cagalli in my previous fic, made Len (from La Corda d'Oro) deaf and now this? I don't understand my mind and fingers while typing this story. I should now change my username to 'Warning: Sad endings'
