"What?!" Nish roared, thrashing out of Glory's loving grip and recoiling in shock. Wildfire and Crystal watched awkwardly on the sidelines, shifting their feet but appearing to be equally shocked. "What do you mean we're not the dragonets from the prophecy?! Of course we are!" his voice cracked in despair as he turned pleadingly to Turquoise, who was stiff and staring blankly at Glory.
"I-is it true?" she croaked, eyes brimming with tears. "Were our whole lives up to now…lies?" Glory nodded reluctantly and Turquoise felt something inside her break….she was sure it was her heart…or her very being. "So….we're nothing…" Turquoise's shoulders drooped as she sighed, glancing up. "Where….where did we come from, then?" she asked….honestly not wanting to know the answer. Glory hesitated for a moment, her eyes resting on Nish.
"Okay….Nish….." She turned to the sobbing dragonet. "…your egg wasn't found in a cave underground…" she said softly, regret weighing heavily on her shoulders as she spoke to the despaired dragonet. "Starflight found your mother, a SeaWing, running along the shore with your egg held tightly in her talons. She told him….she told him that she had been exiled for mothering a hybrid and she wanted to get rid of you….she wanted you gone…"
"Not true!" Nish interrupted, trying to stop her words from hurting him even more. He clawed at him ears. "My mother is out there looking for me! She wants me back!" he screeched. Glory took a step back and continued…
"She willingly gave Starflight your egg and ordered that you be named Banished…as a constant reminder of what you did to her…." Glory winced as Nish spat at her.
"My name isn't Banished!" he roared. "It's….Nish!" Glory nodded sadly.
"We decided that we wouldn't force that burden upon you….so we named you Nish instead…as a nickname…" Nish's wild eyes barely blink as he fell onto his side, panting, as the words began to sink in.
"What about me…" Turquoise demanded coyly, wrapping her prehensile tail around Nish's barbed tail. "Where did you find me?" Glory's eyes softened a great deal as she gazed lovingly down at Turquoise.
"Oh, Turquoise…..it's because you're…..you're my…-" an unfamiliar voice cut her off suddenly.
"Who are you and what are you doing beyond tribe borders!?"
A young dragonet (older than Turquoise by the looks of her) who looked remarkably like Turquoise herself shouldered her way through some tall foliage and rested to point a spear at Glory. "Explain yourself, unfamiliar RainWing and company!" she barked, a pinkish red hue creeping up her scales. Glory's jaw dropped and Turquoise felt a sudden urge to claw her muzzle and scream at her to tell explain what was happening…"You! SkyWing! IceWing!" the RainWing hybrid roared, pointing her spear at Crystal and Wildfire, who both yelped as if they had just now noticed the young, hostile dragon. "Explain yourselves!" she jabbed the spear closer to the two and Turquoise thought for a moment that she was going to attack them, but a rustling noise somewhere deeper in the rainforest caught the dragon's attention and she whirled around in surprise, as if expecting more strangers to come out and attack her.
"What is going on here?" a burly NightWing asked as he burst through the thick green leaves. He wrapped his wing protectively around the RainWing and Turquoise realized that she must be his daughter. Glory stiffened and her jaw fell farther down in shock. The NightWing's reaction was close to the same as he noticed her. "Glory…?" the NightWing croaked faintly in disbelief.
"Deathbringer?" Glory asked, but her question had been answered as soon as she had seen the NightWing.
"What is going on here?!" the hybrid dragon demanded as Glory rushed forward to embrace the NightWing. Glory gazed at the dragon with tear-filled eyes and muttered something almost too softly for Turquoise to hear. "Exotic…"
Both Turquoise and Exotic took a noticeable step back in shock. 'It's you!' Turquoise wanted to exclaim, but her spirits were far too broken for her to even try to say something.
"Mom?" Exotic narrowed her eyes and backed away, her eyes glittering with uncertainty. Glory nodded her head slowly, as if afraid Exotic would be scared off by any sharp movement. "Mom…" Exotic gasped as Glory outstretched a wing to hold her daughter close, but Exotic shied away. "I remember now…" Exotic closed her eyes. "You!" she snapped. "You promised me you'd come back! You left me alone, motherless, for SIX YEARS!" Exotic seemed on the verge of sobbing, but she bit her lip and continued. "I waited for you….every…..day…..hopeful that you would come back the next every time you didn't show up…When you didn't come back for years, I had completely forgotten everything about you! I begged dad to tell me stories so I wouldn't lose faith! And now….you came back to…" she glared at Turquoise and Nish. "To rescue the two little saviors of Pyrrhia…and you never came to visit me…I heard that you and your prophecy dragonet buddies all disappeared for six….years…" Exotic was on the border of purely raging. "Why…..why did you never think to visit me…your daughter? Do these stranger dragonet's mean more to you?" her voice cracked with grief as she glared accusingly at Glory.
"Oh, Exotic….I'm so sorry….but…I felt as though I had to stay with these dragonets forever and never look away…" she whispered.
"Why?" Exotic demanded, looking hurt beyond words.
"Because…" Glory began, casting a loving glance at Turquoise. "One of them is your little sister…" Turquoise felt as though she would faint. Exotic was her sister!? Better yet, Glory was her mother!?
Exotic stared at Turquoise in wonder. "S-sister….?" Turquoise's eyes widened in shock. Exotic shook her head firmly. "But…But I thought that the prophecy called for…" Glory raised her talons to silence her and sighed heavily.
"They are not the right dragonets for the prophecy…" she turned to Turquoise and dipped her head in shame. "Only Starflight and I knew about it…and when Starflight was stolen by an IceWIng who thought he had stolen her daughter…I panicked….and never left to visit anyone…" Glory froze as her wandering gaze stopped on Crystal. "You…You look familiar…" she whispered hesitantly. Crystal's 'mane' flared in confusion as she took a step back away from Glory as she drew closer. "I'm not kidding….Deathbringer doesn't she look like…" Deathbringer's eyes widened in shock.
"Like….Queen Glacier…" he finished her sentence for her and recoiled sharply. Crystal bristled with unease, shaking her head vigorously.
"You don't think she's…" Exotic hissed, stepping back in a half-bow.
"You don't think I'm the IceWing princess do you? Because if you do, you couldn't be more wrong…" Crystal growled menacingly, raising her talons to strike whoever came closest. Wildfire rested his tail on her shoulder and gave her a small nod. She nodded back and sighed deeply. "I'm nobody…..my family died in an avalanche….I wasn't supposed to survive…I should've died too…My survival is a punishment." She explained regretfully. Glory stepped forward and rested her talons on Crystal's shoulder.
"What did you say your name was?" she asked. Crystal blinked up at her.
"Crystal…" Glory stumbled back in shock.
"I know how to save Starflight!" Glory exclaimed.
"For the last time, I don't know where your daughter was taken!" Starflight cried out as the queen whipped angrily at the walls with her tail, leaving deep, cut marks in the room. The entire hallway was scored with claw and tail marks, all created out of the IceWIng queen's frustration and fury over the loss of her daughter.
"I don't care anymore!" Glacier snarled at Starflight, grabbing his muzzle in her talons. "I don't care what you say! My daughter is lost forever and I need someone to blame!" She released him and whirled around to punch the walls, leaving crater-like dents in the smooth surface. Starflight flinched at the loud noises. She was going to kill him today…no doubt…
Glory charged through the main gates to the Ice Palace, leading the way with Turquoise, Nish, Crystal, Wildfire, and Deathbringer at her heels as Exotic scanned the world from above. Two burly guards blocked their path at the front door, holding up their spears threateningly. Glory barely flinched as the tip of the spear brushed against her muzzle. Her hard eyes bore into the guards as she spoke. "We have found the lost princess." Glory gestured to Crystal. "And we wish to return her…now." The guards gaped at Crystal and choked on unspoken words.
"So what the NightWing says is true…..He didn't take her…" one of the guards gasped.
"Just let us in! It's very urgent!" Deathbringer demanded. The two guards nodded and opened the door shakily. All seven dragons burst through the door and raced down the hallways, following the sound of Glacier's loud voice.
"We're almost there!" Wildfire exclaimed hopefully as the yelling grew steadily louder.
Glacier curled up in a tight ball, her shoulder's shaking as she sobbed for her daughter. In her talons, she held a small stone with the name 'Crystal' carved into it….it had been the stone she had wanted to give her daughter after she was hatched….the sparkling geode appeared plain and dusty on one side but sprouted with icy crystalized gems on the other where Crystal had broken the stone open.
"Why!?" she demanded, her voice growing raw from screaming. Starflight flinched away visibly, his shackles clanking against the hard floor of the room. Suddenly, seven unfamiliar dragons skidded to a halt at the end of the doorway.
"Queen Glacier!" Glory called. The large IceWing queen turned around in shock, glaring at the unwelcome newcomers.
"Who are you!? How did you get in here?!" she demanded.
"We were let in…" Nish coughed, looking broken as he sat down weakly next to Turquoise.
"Oh….it must have been that new guard! He's dead! Chill is dead!" she raged, throwing her head back in a furious roar. Glory stepped back uneasily and cleared her throat to catch the queen's attention.
"Queen Glacier….don't worry about this new guard of yours. He had good reason to let us in." Glory explained, beginning to push Crystal into view as planned.
"Oh really?" the queen sneered, rounding on them. "What is this reason?"
"We found your daughter…" Crystal stepped hesitantly into view and the whole room began to freeze.
"C-crystal?"
Ok! Next chapter will probably be the last of this book! But I can't make any promises….I'm not good at making super long chapters, I mean….you have to know where to leave your readers at a cliffhanger, right? Okay sorry, anyway….How did you like this ending? It's not over yet!
