Chapter 17

Third Person's POV

As he and Charlotte drove down the empty highway, Peter found himself worried. Despite being pissed off at Jasper for the royally fucked up move of not telling his mate the truth, Peter could also understand his brother's reasoning's. No matter how stupid. But right now he had something more important than his brother's idiocy to worry about.

"Peter?" Charlotte asked from the passenger seat.

As Peter glanced at his beloved mate he felt a shiver shoot through him. He knew that tone, it was a tone of pure fear at the unknown and the last time he had heard it was the night they escaped from Maria. It was tone he had prayed to never hear again.

"Has your knower given you anything new yet?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly at the fear of the unknown.

Peter had to keep his anger under control. This was what was truly unnerving him, aside from knowing that it would have been deeply foolish and dangerous for Jasper and his mate to face the crazy twins right now everything else was just blank.

"No, things are still too unclear right now. We need to be very careful on what we do here, Charlotte. One wrong move, just one and the shits really gonna hit the fan and worse still I won't know how badly unless it happens." he replied.

Charlotte suspected that if she still had a heart beat she would probably have a heart attack from her fear. A fear that only increased at hearing her mate's uncertainty and his own fear. Without another word, Charlotte grabbed her mate's hand and held it tightly.

"How do you think Jasper is doing?" she asked, needing something to distract her from the silence.

Peter snorted. Ah, yes. Their dear brother.

"Dumb fuck, he'll be paying for that balls up for a while. It wouldn't be much of a surprise if whatever little trust he's been able to earn back has just been destroyed through keeping his mouth shut about the truth." Peter told her, thinking that his brother really was the biggest idiot vampire out there right now.

"I just hope she can forgive him enough to accept him as her mate. They've had enough pain already, they don't deserve anymore." Charlotte whispered.

Once again Peter sighed. Charlotte was right about that.

"I know my sweetness but I fear that there will be more pain for them, I just hope that they will live to be happy afterwards." Peter replied solemnly.

As they lapsed into silence, Peter found himself cursing Edward and Alice with a venom and hatred more powerful than he had towards Maria.

The time was fast approaching 2am when his knower finally coughed something up.

"No," Peter suddenly growled into the otherwise silent car.

Charlotte looked at Peter wide eyed.

"Peter?" She asked.

"That cannot be right. It can't be!" Peter growled in growing fear and panic.

"W...what is it?" Charlotte asked him.

A red haze began to form over Peter's eyes, forcing him to pull over and get out of the car. Charlotte remained in the car for a couple of minutes as she watched Peter scream and curse into the night air. Eventually though her own fears of whatever has her beloved so angry forced her from the car.

"PETER!" She screamed at him.

Peter turned to look at his mate with pain in his eyes.

"We have no choice." Peter simply told her.

Charlotte felt her eyes go wide as Peter once again dug out his cell phone. He couldn't possibly mean...could he?

Meanwhile, back in the motel room...

Three hours had passed in complete deafening silence since Jasper explained himself to Bella, or Isabella as she all but screamed at him, and Jasper was fast approaching the end of his rope with the waiting. It didn't help that his mind was currently at war with the Major over the whole situation.

"I wouldn't even think about saying anything dip shit, you wouldn't even be in this situation if you had just told her from the beginning." The Major told him snidely.

"Oh shut up." Jasper told him before returning his attention to Bella in case he had missed something crucial.

Sadly though she was still just a statue and he hated it.

Finally, after another hour that felt like a millennia, she looked at him.

"D...did you know before?" she asked him, her voice void of all emotion.

Jasper felt a cocktail of confusion and relief mix with his increasing worry.

"Before?" He questioned.

Isabella's eyes sparkled with the tears that were forbidden to fall.

"When I was human, did you know we were mates when I was human?" she asked.

"NO!" Jasper replied firmly and knowing he was at risk of loosing his hands took hold of Isabella's as tightly as he dared. "I swear to you, when you were human I had no idea we were mates. If I did, I would have ripped James to shreds the second he appeared on that field and what happened to you afterwards would never have happened." he told her fiercely, love drenched each word he spoke.

"There was one good thing that came out of everything that happened to me," she told him softly.

Jasper looked at her lost.

"What?" he asked.

Had she really just said that? She was just as baffling as a vampire as she was as a human. What good could have possibly come out of that horror?

"My dad found his own soul mate," she told him.

Jasper stared at his mate speechless, there truly no words that could describe just how unbelievably in awe he was at what she had just told him. It warmed his frozen heart so powerfully that Jasper would swear that he felt it flutter, the human girl he had met so long ago was still there.

They descended into silence, staring into each others eyes.

"I should have been there to protect you." Jasper whispered softly.

"You didn't know what was going to happen, them most definitely but not you," she replied. "if you did, I know you would have come back. You, Emmett and Rosalie." Bella told him softly.

"Damn straight we would have," Emmett said determinedly from the doorway.

Jasper and Bella looked round, amazed that they hadn't heard Emmett opening the door.

"But, er...I was wondering if you could talk to Rosie. Earlier tonight at the club...it, well..." Emmett trailed off.

Jasper saw that Bella understood at once.

"Of course Em," she said softly.

Without another word, Bella got to her feet and went into Emmett and Rosalie's room. The brothers remained where they were in silence for a few minutes as if waiting to hear the beginnings of a conversation but when it became clear neither Rosalie or Bella would be saying a word with them next door Emmett and Jasper silently agreed to just go for a walk.

Rosalie and Bella remained silent for fifteen minutes after their respective mates left the neighbouring room, as if they suspected Emmett and Jasper of dragging their feet in hopes of hearing some of the conversation.

"You know their really hoping to hear us talking about sex right," Bella said suddenly.

Rosalie smirked at Bella's words.

"Hear us comparing size more like, predictable." Rosalie replied saucily.

The good nature soon evaporated however as the two frozen teenage women lapsed into silence.

"You sure you want to talk about this now?" Bella asked her. "A motel room doesn't exactly scream privacy for this sort of conversation." she added, the last thing either of them wanted or needed was a nosey human overhearing something and calling the police.

Rosalie sat and thought for a moment.

"Good point," Rosalie replied after a while.

Silence descended over the two of them again.

"So, what should we talk about?" Bella asked.

Rosalie thought for a moment.

"How about you give me all the good black mail stuff on Jasper." Bella suddenly thought.

After all, if she was his mate then she needed to know these things. Rosalie found it to be just the distraction she needed from the nights events and proceeded to tell Bella some Jasper stories.

Elsewhere

There was nothing more irritating than a ringing phone, why did the humans have invent such a noisy thing? With a angered huff, the phone was answered.

"Just so we're clear, I am only calling you because something is coming that could be catastrophic for all of us. You included." A voice said darkly before a hello could be uttered.

This was certainly a most interesting development.

"Really Peter or did you just miss me?" Was the reply.

"I miss you the way a rhino misses ivory hunters, you need to get your ass up north. You've got 24 hours to get your ass to Minnesota or you're done for." Peter spat back before hanging up.

Yes, most definitely an interesting development.

"Is everything alright?" A young man's voice came from a doorway but no answer came from his question.

Concerned he moved further into the room.

"Maria?" He pushed but again, received no answer.
