"HAVE YOU COMPLETELY LOST YOUR FUCKING MIND?!" Charlotte screamed into the silence of the car.
Peter cringed, he knew it was coming but hearing his mate go bat shit crazy like that wasn't his proudest moment. Calling Maria was the last thing on Earth he wanted to do, but knew that he truly had no choice in the matter. Not if he wanted the two of them to have a chance of living.
"Babe..." Peter tried but his incensed mate cut him off.
"Don't!" She snarled. Her blood red eyes filled with betrayal. "How could you do this to us? You know how insane she is, Peter. You can't trust someone who's so insane, for fuck's sake not even the Romanians would willingly go near that crazy bitch!" Charlotte continued.
Peter sagged.
"Believe me. I didn't want to do this." Peter told her sadly, his head bowed, his voice breaking with the sadness and pain that he was sure would shatter his entire body. "I swear to you, if I had the digits for God and the Devil, I would have called them both but I don't." He continued now looking straight into the eyes of his soul mate. "I don't care who I have to bring to my side. I don't care if I have to kill them after the threat is gone. If that's what it takes to keep you safe, I'll do it." Peter told her.
"Peter..." Charlotte began to say, her anger now gone at the powerless look on her mate's face.
"I mean it, Charlotte. Even if I have to shove a nuclear warhead up the entire human race's ass to keep you safe, I'll do it." Peter added.
Charlotte felt her eyes go wide. Not since the Southern wars had she seen him so serious and it only drove home just how bad this unknown threat was.
"O-okay." Charlotte choked out.
"Okay?" Peter questioned.
"Okay, let's work with Maria to stop this threat." Charlotte confirmed.
Peter sagged against the back of the driver's seat in relief.
"Okay." He echoed. "Let's get to Minnesota so the Major can rip my spine out." Peter added before starting the car.
Jasper's POV
God, I needed a fucking drink!
Why the fuck did I have to become something that wasn't allowed to get pissed out of its fucking mind when I want to? Because the universe is one evil and heartless shit, that's why. Still, despite being denied my god given right to get drunk, being a vampire did come with perks. Travelling for example, you wouldn't believe how drastically the travel time gets cut down. Unless you're travelling with one seriously ticked off mate, then a simple trip to the boarder of Minnesota becomes a fucking Century long trip.
Okay, in truth it took us about two days by car, but you get my point. Anyone who has had to go anywhere with someone, like my mate, who refused to talk to me and only ever glares at me with what I can only describe as 'I'm going to rip your un-beating heart out of your ass' look. Well, you know how uncomfortable that is.
Even Emmett didn't, and still doesn't, have the balls to make jokes for the rest of our journey. Luckily for my dead heart and ass, Rose had decided to take Bella somewhere for them to have 'girl talk'.
If the universe felts like throwing me some fucking mercy, I was more than ready to receive it.
"How long do you think Peter and Charlotte are going to be?" Emmett asked me out of the blue.
I merely shrugged, I was too busy of trying to figure out how to talk to Bella without sacrificing a body part. It wasn't going very well.
"Anything I can do to help?" My brother asked, and I didn't need to ask him what he was talking about.
I sighed and looked to the night sky, it was something I'd been doing since I was five and always had a way of bringing a sense of peace to my soul. Sadly, now that I knew the truth, the only thing that would bring my soul peace was Bella.
"Not unless you have some hidden gift that allows you to turn back time." I replied depressed.
Emmett clapped a hand on my shoulder.
"Afraid not." He replied with a sigh of his own. "On a selfish note, I really hope I don't piss Rosie off this much. She won't hesitate to rip my balls off. Hell, I've come close a few times to having that happen. Remember that time in sixties?" Emmett told me.
I looked at him stunned for a few seconds before I started laughing. Only Emmett.
"Which time in the sixties? Shit, 'Summer of Love' more like the whole fucking decade." I laughed back at him.
Emmett laughed himself.
"Too true, it was…63. During Kennedy's campaign trail, I accidentally made a pass to her." Emmett told me, with a telling look.
Oh, yeah. Her. Fuck, I thought Rose was going to expose us that night.
"You really were a dump fuck that night, Rose almost took your head clean off." I reminisced.
Emmett shuddered.
"Took my head off? Fuck, you didn't hear what she was planning on doing to my ass when everyone went home. I love my Rosie with everything I am and would destroy the planet for her if she asked me to but fuck she can be downright psycho. You know they called Rosie up for tips when filming Fatal Attraction right." Emmett told me with a shudder in his voice.
I laughed, but I wouldn't be surprised if that shit was true.
My laughter came to an end when we heard the unmistakable sound of a car arriving from our left. I zeroed in on the people in the car and instantly knew they were vampires and I also knew one of them was in an overwhelming state of dread and the other, if possible, was more irate than Bella.
"They're definitely vampires." I told Emmett firmly, my eyes focused on the approaching car.
"Yeah, the lack of heartbeat is always a give away." Emmett replied sarcastically.
I glared at Emmett and about ready to tell him to fuck off when the car stopped right in front of us. Charlotte and a very reluctant Peter got out of the car.
Now, when you know someone like Peter for as long as I have, you know that Peter and reluctance don't go together. Something was definitely up.
"Captain," I greeted calmly, but I couldn't deny the sense of unease that suddenly gripped me and it wasn't anyone else's.
"Major, there is something I need to tell you. Something, you're not going to like." Peter replied in turn.
Dead fucking still.
The last time I heard those words out of Peter's mouth it was Maria related.
"Speak." I commanded.
Peter gulped and spoke...
Third Person's POV
Bella and Rosalie were starting a slow trek back to the main road where they had left Emmett and Jasper. Rosalie sneaked a glance to her sister and instantly knew she was still royally pissed at Jasper for not telling her the truth about their being mates.
"Nobody but himself to blame on that score," Rosalie thought to herself.
She knew that it was going to be explosive when he admitted the truth to Bella. How could it be anything less after what that shit Edward did to her? In fact, as far as Rosalie was concerned, what Edward and Alice both did to Bella was just as bad as being raped.
Knowing that she knew what they were doing to Bella and never once doing anything to stop them, it made Rosalie feel more awful than she could ever possibly begin to explain. The way they would control Bella, it was no wonder that the human world saw vampires as monsters. Then again, Rosalie can't help but think about Esme and realised that humans are just as monstrous as vampires.
"How long are you going to torture Jasper for?" Rosalie suddenly asked, she needed to stop her thoughts dead in their tracks. Before the guilt of doing nothing to protect her sister swallowed her whole.
Before Bella could answer her sister's question a horrific sound reached their vampire ears and it brought them both to a terrified halt.
A/N: FINALLY! I couldn't get Jasper's piece right until now. Girl time next and Jasper's reaction.
